Why We’re, Often, Guided By Our Fears?

Although, we often hear, our biggest fears are, of losing, the reality often is, it is more about being afraid of winning? If you win, will others, begin to constantly, expect more from you, and will that, introduce lots of additional stress, tensions, and self – doubts? Have you ever, focused, in an objective, introspective way, on why you have certain fear(s), and why, rather than seeking the best way, to transform these, to becoming stronger, well – prepared, and better, you permit them to, seemingly, control, and/ or, even, paralyze your personal efforts? With that in mind, this article will attempt to briefly examine, consider, discuss, and review, why we let these negative thoughts, control us, or vice versa.

1. Fear of winning: When you’re successful, shouldn’t you feel elation, and self – satisfaction, rather than appearing afraid, that you’ve just raised expectations, and you will feel pressure, to over – perform?

2. Fear of losing/ defeats/ humiliation: Do you ever feel afraid, of losing, and/ or being defeated, because others might tease you, humiliate you, and/ or think less of your ideas, etc? How will you learn from every experience, so as to become better, and stronger? The Nobel Prize Winner, Dr. Hans Selye, differentiate between negative, debilitating stress, and positive eustress. He stated how one handles these episodes, and whether, they make you stronger, better, and more prepared, are determining differentiators!

3. Fear of taking a stand: We often witness, people, who, badly want to fit – in, and be accepted, they prioritize, going along, with the pack! Greatness comes with believing in yourself, and having the personal self – confidence, and inner fortitude, to stand – up, for ideals, ethics, and integrity, and making it a great priority. Unless/ until, you become more interested in the type of person you are, and what you represent, rather than what others may believe about you, when you don’t agree.

4. Other fears: Most of us have certain fears, and that’s normal, fine, and acceptable, but, when these fears become powerful enough, to make you procrastinate, or, as I often say, put off, until tomorrow, things you should have done, yesterday, they dominate you, and how you pursue life, etc!

What kind of person, do you want, and hope to be? Will you, become stronger, with more self – confidence, inner strength, and a genuine, can – do, attitude, or will you lose this battle, and live an uncomfortable, disappointing life? In the end result, it’s up to you!
