The Reason Why We Should All Wear Leggings

We all went crazy when the leggings trend took us by storm. We all love the fact that it is a bit like wearing supportive tights, it has a tightening effect, the moment we put them on, it instantly tucks our tummy away.

However, there is more than a tightening effect, according to the Guardian Newspaper. It supports and achieves a slimming effect and gives tone and shape to our legs and tummy. But we all have to be cautious, as our muscles can get lazy from relying on our old faithful leggings to tone our legs for us. To use leggings effectively, we should use them as our exercise weapon as well as a fashion statement. Don’t forget to tense your muscles in different places from time to time, using a pulsating movement. That will enhance the toning effect from wearing the leggings.

Apart from the muscle toning, we can gain some fashion credit from wearing this simple garment. There are endless options out there for us to choose from, I personally prefer the printed ones and the array of lacy options.

Printed leggings– There are a few major prints we can all go for in terms of securing the title of fashionista. Like the now very well known Galaxy prints. In the whole of Bloggers sphere, Galaxy prints have adorned the legs of the fabulous bloggers out there. The mystical nature of the designs, with stars scattered among purples and deep blue. The other print that is worth a mention are the tribal prints. Most of these come in symmetrical patterns with horizontal lines. We can choose many different colour combinations from these patterns, from charcoal grey tones, to riots of reds and blues. These particular prints are the most suitable design for autumn and winter. Team these tribal design leggings with their destined friend, the oversized jumper or sweater, it would certainly be a comfortable fashion choice, great for running errands and would look just effortlessly cool.

Lace leggings- there are many different kinds and patterns, it is a great option for the person with a romantic mind or the rock princess in you. There are printed lace leggings, when the beige nylon is over printed with black screen prints. There is another kind like the woven textured material which can come in many different patterns, from quaint little florals to bold, repeated large flowers. Sometimes you can get interesting patterns like skulls or contouring lines, which I particularly think is the sort to covet. They don’t just highlight the outlines of the legs, but they also give an ordinary design an interesting twist. The perfect partner for lace leggings would be our best pal, the little black dress. Of course, we can also team them with a long white shirt/blouse, or any tunic style in beige and light pink tones. It gives a normally quite gothic feeling bottom almost a light girly feel.

What Is League of Legends?

League of Legends is a popular multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game that has recently exploded into the online gaming scene. The game is published by Riot Games and was first released in 2009 for Mac and PC, the Mac client was later closed down.

The game offers the standard 5v5 game mode available in other MOBA games which pits two teams against each other on a map (called Summoner’s Rift) with the main goal being to destroy the enemies base (Nexus).

League of Legends added a 3v3 option to the MOBA genre and introduced the Dominion gameplay mode. In Dominion players are required to capture and hold five objective points to reduce the enemies Nexus health. This game mode is aimed at creating a faster paced gameplay mode.

Influence Points

Influence Points are the main currency in League of Legends which are given to players for playing games. The amount earned varies based on several factors including the game result, summoner level and the number of bots in the game.

Influence Points (also known as IP) are used to purchase in-game items such as champions and runes.

Riot Points

Riot Points are the other currency available and are available via PayPal, credit/debit card or prepaid Riot Point Game Cards.

Riot Points can unlock rune pages, champions and various boosts (experience and influence points). However, Riot Points cannot be spent on runes. Riot Points can be earned for free through various activities (such as referring friends to League of Legends).

Runes

Runes add a level of customisation to League of Legends. Players can increase a variety of stats such as health, damage, mana regeneration, movement speed and many other stats. This allows players to play the same champion but play them in a different way based on rune and mastery choices.

Champions

Players can choose from over 92 playable champions (and this number continues to grow every week).

Champions must be unlocked with Riot Points or Influence Points before they can be played. However, there are a number of free champions available to play each week to give summoners the option to trial champions before purchasing them. There are many champion types available including assassins, bruisers, supports, casters, junglers and tanks.

Ranked Matches

These games are just like standard games except that players are given a ranking based on the result of the game, this is known as the ELO ranking system which is also used in chess. This system has created what is known as ‘ELO Hell’, a place in the ELO system that is filled with poor players and intentional griefers, this section in the ELO system is hard to escape due to the team nature of the MOBA genre.

Conclusions

The game systems behind League of Legends are the reason for its success among the MOBA game genre. The game continues to take the genre by storm with its 5 million dollar prize pool for the 2012 game circuit. Check out their official website for full details: League of Legends Official Site.

Is White Supremacy a Mental Illness?

If someone is brain-washed into believing in something that opposes human-rights or turns them into a clone of bad thinking is this a mental illness? It seems that some Americans are behaving in this manner with the cry from trump’s campaign of ‘make America Great again’. The riots in Charlottesville today certainly gave that impression with many wearing the hats from his rallies and waving swastika signs and associating them with the Ku Klux Klan.

These were sad sights to witness on the media and even worse to know that many Americans harbour such views. What do they consider is so great about being white that they can persecute and deride those who are not?

As a white Australian who fought the government to remove the White Australia Policy from our society, my views are that we are all human and no one is better or worse than another. While some have more opportunities that does not give them the right to decide on the rights of others.

My heart is often disturbed by racial prejudice. This is mainly because my memory of reincarnation made me aware that we have all lived. In some lives we have been black and in others white, or some other colour. The skin is only the outer covering and has no bearing on the person underneath.

For this to be hidden and racial prejudice and anger towards people of another less fortunate position to rear its head is a blight on all of us. In my opinion, therefore, white supremacy is a mental condition governed by selfishness and jealousy. It is time for someone to call it as such and to help people who struggle with the condition to get over it.

Barack Obama's Libyan Meeting (In Poetic Prose)

It is in the dead of night, they are talking in Barack's Obama's meeting room of what is being calling a riot! Emphases on the word 'Riot!'

He is told he can save them …

There are cold embraces: they tell Barack if they don't send in the Seals only forty miles away, its curtains for them, – that, Sevens will be part of the new dead!

"It's only a riot," he says.

"No," a voice exclaims.

"It is a terrorist raid."

The Innocent Muslims are crying and kissing, parading about, over the so called riot that is really a terrorist raid.

For the last time, a voice cries "Send in the Navy Seals, they want to kidnap Ambassador Stevens-!"

"It's not a terrorist attack," is the rebuff back.

"The Naval Seals, have volunteered to go rescue the Americans!" yells another voice.

"No, they are to stand down!"

There is no more to be said.

But more is said …

"Orders are orders," the Seals area told.

"Why did the president push the go button?" questioned a Seal.

"Its water over the dam," explains his companion.

Obama knew within the hour Americans were under siege!

Whispers voices from afar!

The Secretary of State could have sent help … Hillary Clinton; true!

David Petraeus, CIA could have too.

But, Barack Obama we are left with, who sucked out all the last of Stevens' breath and brought him to his rest, or is it doom! –

And then went to bed instead.

And now all we can do is sniff among the deceased.

And cry: 'It's water over the dam' but some are asking:

Where, who, why, how, or, of, was, by, did, and who kicked the dead ambassador, afterword? And the cry is: the Innocent Muslims?

Note and Commentary: President Obama is the worst president America has had in my lifetime-in my opinion, and I'm 68-years old. Hillary Clinton, will simply be another Obama, should she become President. I have said this before Obama was elected the first time, and I know it will be of little use saying it again, but I shall: today I read 7 out of 10 Americans have come to their senses, he is as I have portrayed him , destroying America, inch by inch. As long as people are swayed by their hearts and stomachs and not by their thinking and minds, the villains in politics will continue to get away with anything and everything! Mr. Trump is not so off has rocker as so many people think: Germany and France are feeling the results of their kindness to the Islamic immigrates, as America is. And Mexico is no exception to the laws of the land, as they'd wish to be, protesting as invaders are invaders, no more no less, they want their rights, whatever they are. Obama Care, on one hand is good, but foamy, it is wrong, and it is making the rich richer; he just doesn't verbalize that part of it. Gun Control, is the first step to absolute control, take the guns away and thus comes the dictators. Every dictator wants to take guns away from licensed holders. The tears Obama shed for the children, too bad he did shed some for the soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq, or for Mr. Stevens in Libya; but then perhaps he had a good tutor, Hillary, she's a better actor than Shawn Penn.

We as Americans need to be careful who throws the cats in with the pigeons; too many politicians nowadays think all their voters are blind men don't know their cane, and many of us are, perhaps you reading this. We are weak in Europe (Russia is taking bits and pieces out of her, and what are we doing … still trading); we are weak in China (China is taking over the South China Sea with little islands, provoking our warships, and what are we doing, still trading …), week with Iran (they've just captured 10-of our sailors: how friendly can they be and we are about to sign an agreement with the devil; if they can do what they are doing, what do you think they will do with the 20-billion we will release once the agreement is signed … think America?); and we are weak with North Korea (we have just allowed them to have the H. Bomb, if I was Japan, buy a few myself).

If you think Bush was bad, this guy beat them all to hell. He gets the Nobel Peace Prize, at a whim, and keeps the wars going in Afghanistan and Iraq, for six more long years (100-billion dollar bill), then sends arms to Syria via, Libya, to fight its president. Then tells Africa he'll help fight the terrorist if they agree to accept gay rights, a little blackmail with the Tax Payers money, is he not our servant? Or our Emperor? As far as him proclaiming to be a Christian, how can that be, when you're against all Christian Values, like Trump has inferred: here is a President for abortion, gay rights, gay marriages, giving one billion dollars to fund establishments that are selling parts of un-born fetus' for profit. Here is a man that says: hide your bibles to Americans serving in the Middle Eastern, soldiers fighting on his behalf, so the Arabs don't get offended, yet they have to overlook the Qur'an, and give them air-conditioned tents . What kind of man is this, you'd think he was working on behalf of the forthcoming Anti-Christ; I hate to say that but truth be told, he is no Christian, yet he got the Christian vote, and a Doctorate from a Christian College, when another State University turned him down, saying he did qualify, what does that tell you ? The weakness comes from the knees of Obama, who wants America to be like every other country, mediocre; how else can Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea intimidate, in less America is weak. Ad as we all know, Mr. Obama has impeccable timing, in that he had low numbers for his second term of presidency, and all of a sudden knew were bin Laden was; my guess he knew all along and saved this ace in the hole, in his pocket. This weakness, and cutting America's power worldwide, will only foster a quicker nightmare of an apocalypse. That is one reason on Svalbard islands in the North Pole America has a Global Seed Vault. And why in the Cheyenne Mountains in Colorado, America hides its air defense center. Well as I said in the poem "Barack Obama's Libyan Meeting, 'its water over the dam. But let me leave you with one idiom: if you look only in on direction, your neck will become stiff. And that is perhaps how we got Barack Obama, too bad it wasn't Mrs. Condoleezza Rice. DL Siluk

Insurance Required During Construction Or Conversion of Vessels Or Rigs

1. Builder’s All Risk Insurance:

Usually during the contract negotiation stage, when it is as yet unclear as to which party will be accepting which liabilities, which party will be responsible for procuring the insurance and absorbing the deductibles, etc., both parties look more deeply into the breadth of available BAR coverage.

We can say that Builder’s Risk Insurance for the energy class of business provides coverage under three different forms:

  1. London Institute Builder’s Risk Clauses 1.6.88 (CL 351) – or American equivalent
  2. WELCAR form
  3. Custom forms tailor-made to specific risks or Owners or shipyards.

Is the protection provided under all BAR policies the same? No! For a comparison between wordings please contact a trusted insurance broker of your choice.

2. War Risks and Strikes, Riots, Civil Commotions (SRCC):

a. Institute War Clauses Builder’s Risks 1/6/88 (CL 349) –

Coverage incepts once the vessel is launched (or wet) and provides coverage for loss of or damage to the insured vessel / rig caused by:

  • war, civil war, revolution, rebellion insurrection, or civil strife arising therefrom, or any hostile act by or against a belligerent power
  • capture seizure arrest restraint or detainment, arising from perils covered above, and the consequences thereof or any attempt thereat
  • derelict mines torpedoes bombs or other derelict weapons of war.

b. Institute Strikes Clauses Builders’ Risks 1/6/88 (CL 350) –

Provides coverage for loss of or damage to the insured vessel / rig caused by:

  • strikers, locked-out workmen, or persons taking part in labor disturbances, riots or civil commotions
  • any terrorist or any person acting maliciously or from a political motive.

We recommend that this coverage be amended to include Vandalism and Malicious Mischief.

Please also review if the terrorism coverage provided under this clause is either restricted or broadened, or if there are any other applicable clauses such as Sabotage & Terrorism Endorsements. In any case, be sure that the coverage afforded is adequate for your Client so your Client makes an informed decision.

3. Liability – Insurance coverage that protects an insured against claims made by third parties for damage or injury to their property or person. These losses usually come about as a result of negligence of the insured. In marine construction, this policy is referred to an MGL, marine general liability policy. In non-marine circumstances, the policy is referred to as a CGL, commercial general liability policy. The construction contract should determine which parties are liable in which instances for losses of Third Party Liability nature.

Insurance policies can be divided into three broad categories:

  1. Product Liability – Protection against a Manufacturer’s liability for injuries or property damage after a manufactured product has been sold. Extraordinary liability accompanies the manufacture of a product.
  2. Completed Operations – Protection against a Contractor’s liability for injuries or property damage suffered by Third Parties as a result of the Contractor completing an operation.
  3. “Trips & falls & damage” – Protection against injuries or property damage on premises or hulls within care, custody, control of a party.

4. Umbrella Liability – This type of liability insurance provides excess liability protection. Your business needs this coverage for the following reasons:

  • It provides excess coverage over all the “underlying” liability insurance carried.
  • Instead of purchasing a large limit on all of an insured’s policies, this structure allows an insured to purchase the coverage once to sit atop various policies, thereby increasing the limit for many policies.
  • We recommend that this coverage provide automatic replacement coverage for underlying policies that have been reduced or exhausted by loss.

5. Additional coverages available for consideration during the construction phase:

  1. Cargo / Transit Insurance – to protect against All Risks of loss of or damage to the shipments of material, equipment, etc. that will form part of the construction (i.e., the topsides from Russia to the UK)
  2. Marine Delay in Start-Up – to protect against lost profit plus extra expenses due to the delay in arrival of critical components; for instance, due to thrusters being dropped into the water during loading of vessel – causing a 3-month delay in project (due to back-order of specific thrusters required per specifications)
  3. Hull & Machinery & Protection & Indemnity Insurance – to protect against All Risks of loss of or damage to the vessel / rig – and liabilities resulting from the vessel / rig – during transport after completion at Yard (for instance, if delivery is not ex-Yard, but rather at final drilling Site)
  4. Hull & Machinery & Protection & Indemnity Insurance – to protect against All Risks of loss of or damage to any vessels / crane barges that might be used to assist in the construction of the vessel / rig
  5. Liquidated Damages Insurance – to protect against penalties for failure to satisfy an agreement; for instance, for late delivery of unit due to losses of a BAR nature
  6. Political Risk Insurance – to protect a foreign entity against loss suffered due to political risk nature (including Confiscation, Nationalization, Expropriation, Selective Discrimination, Contract Frustration, Inconvertibility & Non-Transfer of funds, etc.)
  7. Professional Indemnity (PI) Insurance – to protect against legal liability arising from any professional negligent act, error or omission in rendering or failing to render professional services by an Assured. We recommend that you look into the design and engineering work and contractual requirements and track records involved in the rig, and see what protections are already in place.

The standard requirements of both Owners and Shipyard:

  1. Workmen’s Compensation / Employers’ Liability as required by applicable statute
  2. Auto Liability as required by applicable statute

6. Coverages available for the shipyard post-delivery (relating to the construction phase):

  1. Following delivery of a unit to an Owner, usually Maintenance & Discovery coverage is purchased.
  2. Warranty coverage is also possible.

What is the difference between Maintenance Coverage of a Builder’s Risk Policy and Warranty Coverage?

The Maintenance Cover is simply an extension of the Builder’s Risk policy, which in this case survives delivery of the vessel to the owner, with coverage being no broader than that contained elsewhere in the policy, subject to all of the conditions and exclusions of that policy.

The Warranty Coverage is “back-to-back” protection of the Assured’s contractual Warranty Clause to Owner. This means that the Warranty Clause from the contract actually becomes the insuring condition of the Warranty Policy.

Marcus Garvey’s Prediction About America’s Racial Problems

Somehow, America just can’t seems to overcome its racial problems. The shooting of an unarmed black teenager, Michael Brown by a white police officer last week in Ferguson, Missouri is a tragic example of this. This tragedy triggered another riot in Ferguson and clashes with the police that are reminiscent of the 60s civil rights struggle in the South where police use water hoses and police dogs to control black protesters.

The racial problem in America has a long history that dates back to the time of slavery. In a 1923, the Jamaican born, Pan Africanist, Marcus Mosiah Garvey during his self-defense at his trial for mail fraud in the US court, made a prediction about race to the court. This is what he said when he asked the rhetorical question about race:

What are you going to do with this question of race. You may sit quietly by, but it is going to be serious later on and that is why the Universal Negro Improvement Association is endeavoring to assist you in solving the Negro problem by helping the Negro to become enterprising, independent politically, and by having a country of his own. If you follow me down the ages you will see within 100 years you are going to have a terrible race problem in America, when you will have increased and the country will become over-populated. It will be a fight for existence between two opposite races. The weak will have to go down in defeat before the strong. In the riots of Washington, East St. Louis, Chicago, Tulsa, study the race question and you will find that some serious thinking must be done now to solve this problem; otherwise our children will be confronted with it.

A hundred years from the time Garvey made these comments will come in 2023 – just nine years away – and America still has a serious race problem. In his prediction Garvey referenced riots that occurred in four areas of the US. Since then the pattern of riots triggered by racial problems, continue to be blight on American society.

Although the racism perpetrated by social institutions has declined, the criminal-justice system seems to resist changes to ameliorating the disparate treatment of blacks. Black people are given harsher sentences compared to whites who commit the same crimes and law enforcement profiles them as suspects and criminals.

Within the past two months, the nation has been subjected to four disturbing incidents of the police (and a wannabe police) using deadly force or excessive force on blacks. These four incidents sparked the usual frenzy of media coverage and the typical pattern of discussion on racism – denial and accusations. The first incident occurred on February 26, 2012 and involved the murder of seventeen year old Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Florida by the wannabe cop George Zimmerman. Before pursuing Martin and fatally shooting him, Zimmerman made some racial stereotypical comments about the teenager. Police questioned Zimmerman the night of the murder but he was not arrested until several weeks later after the incident started to get national coverage in the media. Zimmerman was acquitted based on Florida’s “Stand your ground law.”

The second incident, which was caught on videotape, showed a white California Highway Patrol officer straddling a woman and pummeling her with punches to her face. This incident occurred July 1, 2014 on the shoulder of a busy highway in Los Angeles. The victim was Marlene Pinnock an unarmed fifty one year old black woman. Her merciless beating was not what you would expect a man to do to a woman. Apparently, it made no difference to the patrol officer that this was an unarmed woman. For a law enforcement officer to do deliver the kind of beating shown on the videotape to a woman raises several disturbing questions about the attitude of police officers towards black people.

The third incident occurred in New York also in July 21, 2014 when Eric Garner an unarmed black man was apprehended by several police officers. During a police confrontation with garner, a police officer applied a choke hold to him and with the help of other officers brought him to the ground. The police officers continued to use unnecessary force to restrain him. Garner an asthmatic, was in distress and moments later he was dead.

The fourth incident, the Michael Brown incident occurred just last week in Ferguson, Missouri. The teenager was fatally shot as he tried to run away after an altercation with a police officer. Shot in the back, Brown held up both hands to show that he was unarmed. However, the police officer allegedly fired several more shots into Brown’s body killing him on the spot.

Because these incidents involve black people and occurred in different regions of the country, the conclusion is drawn that law enforcement treatment of black people is a national problem. It is a problem that requires law enforcement to evaluate their training program and possible implement training on the use of deadly force and their attitude towards black people – especially young blacks.

A number of events have occurred in the past five decades that should have given America an opportunity to come to some reconciliation with its racial problem. Dr. Martin Luther King, Civil Rights struggle followed by his “I have a dream speech” is one of those events. Rodney King’s (he was brutally beaten by cops in 1992) famous comments, “Can’t we all get along” was another moment that gave America an opportunity to look into its soul. Then there was the 9/11 tragedy that was fueled by the hatred of extreme Muslims linked to al Qaeda. This tragic act of terrorism should have made America look at their own internal hatred and it should have helped unite all Americans. America cannot afford to condemn hatred from foreigners and at the same time continue to practice racial hatred.

As with any type of negative social behavior, there is always a catalyst that drives the behavior or makes people feel they can continue their undesirable behavior. So what is the catalyst that is influencing the increased use of deadly and brutal force by the police against black people? My guess is that it is the climate of hatred that started when President Obama became the first black president.

Some people will disagree that the treatment of President Obama has nothing to do with his race and more to do with his politics. That is simply not true though, because the manner in which the president has been treated is clearly unprecedented. During the president’s first term going on into his second term, there has been a relentless effort to destroy his presidency. This effort is manifested in the blatant disrespect; the conspiracy theories that swirl around him; the spurious GOP led congressional hearings dubbed as scandals – IRS, Fast and Furious, Benghazi, etc.; the propaganda to discredit his policies; talks of impeaching the president; the GOP shutting down of the government; Speaker Boehner’s suing the president; and the personal attacks that sometimes involved with racial innuendos. All these are things that no previous presidents have been subjected to.

If the president of America is being treated in the manner described in the previous paragraph, it is not hard to understand why hatred is again on the rise in America. In this climate of hatred, police officers see it as open season on black people. This climate of hatred is fueled by the GOP members who treat the president as if he is a pariah. It is not surprising then that some world leaders will take advantage of this situation. This is exactly what President Putin is doing in his effort to bring back Crimea and the Ukraine under Russian control. Putin senses that America is divided and that President Obama gets no support on domestic and foreign policy issues. He knows that with President Obama having a weak hand, he can take advantage of doing whatever he wants to do.

Marcus Garvey was also spot-on in another prediction he made that is currently being played out in the manner in which President Obama is treated by the GOP. In 1920, Garvey made comments that white people would resent black politicians making laws to govern the white man. This is what Garvey said:

A terrible mistake was made between 40 and 50 years ago when black men were elected to legislative assemblies all over the country, especially in the southern states and even at the national capital when representatives of this race occupied seats in Congress. The mistake was made as far as the white people were concerned. There was a state of dis-organization in the nation, and in that state certain things happened to mere chance. In the chance, dozens of black men became Senators and Congressmen. This opened up to the eyes of the white nation the possibility of the black man governing the white man in these United States of America – the possibility of the black man making laws to govern the white man? This possibility drove them almost to madness, in suddenly rejecting the spirit of the Constitution and the declaration of Lincoln that “all men are created equal,” hence the determination was arrived at, that never again would it be possible for the race of slaves to govern the race of masters within these United States of America.

Marcus Garvey not only predicted America’s racial problem, he provided insights that America should have paid attention to. Unfortunately, people like Marcus Garvey are often discredited and their message goes unheeded. Racial problems are rooted in the deep recesses of the mind and they result from what is called the ideology of racism. This is why racism is so persistent and the only way to come to terms with it is through some revolutionary process like a spiritual awakening.

Jews Must Demand Rights to Temple Mount

During a 1995 Root and Branch lecture in Jerusalem, Professor Nahum Rakover, author and then Deputy Attorney General of Israel, publicly agreed with me that it isn’t illegal for Christians or Jews to pray upon the Temple Mount, even though it is forcibly prevented by the police.

I had expressed the frustration we (the Temple Mount Faithful and thankfully, now, many others) feel when we follow the law, receive the necessary police permits for our legal demonstrations, and even obtain written Supreme Court approval of our actions, only to be denied “freedom of access” to our most holy site, the Temple Mount, and to be harshly treated with contempt for even trying to exercise our democratic rights!

I asked Deputy Attorney General Rakover why the Israeli government was, in effect, encouraging folks to act outside of the law (which they know we’ve never done, unlike other groups who feel why bother wasting your time trying to reason with corrupt officials), as well as rewarding militant Muslims for their terrorist threats of riots and violence (if Israel were to actually uphold their 1967 law that guarantees – in writing – “freedom of access” to the Temple Mount) and bizarrely punishing law-abiding people by denying them entry to the Temple Mount. Why not remove the threat? Isn’t that logical? Isn’t that legal?

Professor Nahum Rakover basically said that we’re in this situation today because NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE WANT TO EXERCISE THEIR RIGHT to that religious site – the Temple Mount!

Why should Israel change the status quo when they’re not under any pressure to do so? It’s been said politicians don’t see the light until they feel the heat. Shame on us! As I’ve written in a letter published in the Jerusalem Post, the Temple Mount isn’t in our hands, because it’s not in our hearts and minds.

I was later unjustly deported for highlighting the plight of the Temple Mount under Nazi-Muslim occupation within an article published throughout Jerusalem and Israel, calling for the restoration of the Temple Mount as the Temple Mount – a House of Prayer for All Peoples – which the High Court of Israel dismissed as dangerous ideas.

Why should Jews continue to pray at the Western Wall, a site designated by the Turks for Jewish worship instead of the Temple Mount, and continue to submit to such a Gentile decree rather than obey the biblical command to ascend the Temple Mount?

Why obey men over God? Isn’t that idolatry? Isn’t that immoral? Isn’t God Israel’s King, Israel’s only Husband? Who are the nations to dictate what God’s wife should do?

Why are Jews gathering at the pitiful Western Wall to mourn the destruction of the Temple? Do something constructive and DEMAND Jewish legal and biblical rights to the Temple Mount.

Thankfully, the Third Temple is coming soon!

The Canterbury Tales: "The Pardoner’s Tale" and Death

Death is often a subject in the works of many great authors. Some personify it and address it directly, others use it as a symbol of endings or the macabre, and still others use it as a general theme throughout. Regardless of how it is used, death is a common subject. Chaucer uses this subject, as well, but skillfully weaves all three characteristics together in one short story. In “The Pardoner’s Tale” by Geoffrey Chaucer, the Pardoner portrays death as a character, symbolism, and a theme to support his sermons about sin.

Death is used as a theme throughout “The Pardoner’s Tale.” From the beginning, death is introduced when a funeral procession carrying a corpse goes by outside the tavern. The three rioters wonder who it is, and one asks a servant, “What cors is this that passeth heer forby” (668). The boy lets them know it is the body of one of their friends, slain by Death (672-677). The sudden death of the friend shows how even a man living high on life can die suddenly. Even an entire village can be wiped out as referenced in lines 686 through 688. No one is safe from eventually dying. A further reference to death in the story is from the old man the rioters come upon while searching. He wants to die, and dramatically claims he knocks on the earth, praying, “Leeve Mooder! Leet me in!” (731), but he still lives on despite his old age. The three young men continue on, and eventually succumb to death as well. From the corpse being carried by, to the final death of the three rioters, it is obvious that death eventually comes to all. Through the Pardoner’s sermons, it seems he feels this statement is true due to the sins man allows himself to live.

The Pardoner interrupts his story with a sermon on the vices of gluttony, drunkenness, gambling, and swearing. In each, he continues the theme of death by alluding to it in regards to each sin. Gluttony is a sin of over indulgence, where the Pardoner focuses on gluttony of food. The stomach and meat are referenced in the sermon, supposedly in a quote of the apostle Paul: “‘Mete unto wombe and wombe eek unto mete:/God destroyen bothe,'” (522-523) stressing that both the stomach and meat are destroyed by God. Even before they are destroyed this way, “he that haunteth swiche delices/Is deed whil that he lyveth in tho vices,” (547-548) meaning those that go to excess might as well be dead as long as they live that way. Connections to death are also made regarding drunkenness as the Pardoner tells about Attila the Hun and his death, saying he was found “Deyde in his sleepe with shame and dishonour,/Bledynge ay at his nose in dronkenesse” (579-580), so his excess of drinking led to his death. The references to death in regards to gambling and swearing are less intense, but still present by alluding to gambling being the “verray mooder” of several sins including manslaughter (591-593), and claims that “homycide” (657) is a “fruyt” (656) of swearing and false oaths. All these are warnings told by the Pardoner in The Canterbury Tales to his traveling campanions, supported by the actions of the young men in the story.

Just as the Pardoner warns of death in connection to these sins, the young men are warned repeatedly of the consequences of their actions in searching out Death. The barman tells them Death “in this contree al the peple sleeth” (676), letting them know that every killing is attributed to Death. No one in the country is excepted. The barman goes on to tell them he feels “it were necessarie/For to bewar of swich an adversarie” (681-682) and that “to been avysed greet wysdom it were,/Er that [Deeth] dide a man a dishonour” (690-691). All this is meant to encourage the rioters to be careful since Death can come to anyone, at any time, for Death is the greatest adversary and thief in all existence. This warning did not affect them, and they rode out. When they encounter the old man on the road and pester him to tell them where to find Death, he also warns them by beseeching, “God save yow” (766); he knows that since they have decided to find Death, only God can save them. Throughout this theme, Chaucer uses death also as symbolism in many ways.

Death is the end to all life, and the symbolism of death in “The Pardoner’s Tale” represents endings, as well. Death symbolizes a fear of an early death which all people share. The servant questioned about the corpse says he was taught by his mother to “beth redy for to meete hym everemoore” (683), because one must always be prepared for death since it can come at any time. The corpse is a strong reminder of that and a direct symbol of unexpected death as he was “yslayn [that nyght]./For dronke as he sat on his bench upright” (673-674), dead while partying that very night, in the prime of life. His life and his drinking end by Death. Just as death ended his life, it is also a strong symbol for the end to the men’s rioting. They leave the tavern to search out Death, just as many people will end their sinful habits when they know death will be coming soon. The difference here is the rioters are actually searching Death out instead of waiting. They end their search when they find the gold, “No lenger thanne after Deeth they soughte” (772), and forget their oath as their greed takes over. Not only does the end of their search represent the death of their oath, but they also find their own death once they end their search: “Thus ended been thise homycides two/And eek the false empoysonere also” (893-894). Death is truly a symbol of endings. Other than death being a symbol itself, there are several elements in the story that symbolize death, as well.

Objects or actions can be symbols of death, either in their significance to it or in their meanings. One direct symbol of death is the gold the rioters find under the oak tree. Not only does the old man tell them specifically they would find Death under that tree (765), but it also symbolizes greed, which the Pardoner expresses is the mother of manslaughter in his sermon on gambling, which can be considered an extension on greed for money or gold. Through this, the money is a symbol of the deaths soon coming to the three young men. The methods of death are also symbols for the sins they commit. One dies by the other two betraying and murdering him for the gold. This death is very appropriate as all three make an oath, “ech of us bicomen otheres brother” (698), to become brothers in their search for Death. When he decides to poison them so he can take all the gold for himself, he betrays his comrades. Satan considers this permission to toy with the man and make him suffer, “the feend foond hym in swich lyvynge/That he hadde leve hym to sorwe brynge” (847-848). Since he betrays in his life, he is killed by betrayal. The symbolism in the deaths of the other two is a different kind, explained by the Pardoner during his lecture on drunkenness, “For dronkenesse is verray sepulture” (558), meaning drunkenness is the true tomb. In the sermon, it is considered the true tomb of man’s wit and discretion, but in the case of the two murderers, it becomes the cause of their death. They drink the win the first had poisoned to kill them and are thus killed by their love of wine. All three of these are symbols of death by being sins that cause death in spirit in the church’s teachings, and death in body for the characters in the story. In clearly connecting the sins to death in his story, the Pardoner turns his tale into a parable encompassing all the sins he views as the most dangerous and least loved by God. Having such a strong example or symbol of how the sins and death are connected strengthens his claims in his sermons. The last symbol of death in “The Pardoner’s Tale” is the old man himself.

The old man the rioters come by in the story is a direct personification of death. He tells the young men, “I knokke with my staf bothe erly and late” (730), describing how death is everywhere at all times. He never rests, day or night. He also says, “moot I han myn age stille,/as longe tyme as it is Goddes will” (725-726), explaining that he must keep his old age for as long as it is God’s will for him to do so. Death is not in control of his own time, but merely continues on as God decrees for all time. He gives veiled references to the underworld when he claims the earth is his “moodres gate” (729). Someone doing the will of the underworld would claim the earth as his mother’s door, which is opened up when a grave is dug to bury the dead. He even threatens the young men, suggesting they might not live as long as he has with a reference of, “if that ye so longe abyde” (747). After telling about himself, he begs leave to go about his way, claiming, “I moot go thider as I have to go” (749), because regardless of what is going on, he must go where he must go to do God’s will. His speech isn’t lost completely on the young men, because they consider him connected with Death. They claim he is his spy (755) and say, “thou art oon of his assent/To sleen us yonge folk” (758-759), accusing him of being in league with Death to kill the young. The barman and servant boy had warned them that Death was a very powerful thief of lives, but they don’t listen to such warnings, and so fail to recognize the entreaty for God to save them as a warning.

In the story, death is personified as a “privee theef men clepeth Deeth” (675), known to all as a powerful and sneaky thief of lives. The barman explains to the rioters that Death is powerful enough to claim an entire town, “Bothe man and womman, child and hyne and page” (688), but the young men refuse to listen. They set out to confront Death personally, thinking to avenge their friend and the townsfolk. They make the combined oath, “we wol sleen this false traytour, Deeth!” (699), and travel to find and kill Death. If they had been told simply that their friend had died of a heart attack, instead of being killed by a sneaky thief with a spear, they would not have set out to destroy such an all powerful thief. However, personifying death into a thief called Death that steals all lives in the country gives the rioters something to pursue in their drunken state. This personification and the resulting search, gives a more solid feeling to the concept of death. When a fact is ethereal in nature, many will dismiss it as though it is as inconsequential as it is insubstantial. In characterizing death as a real character, the Pardoner is making the subject substantial and more of a real threat to his companions. More people will prepare their lives and homes for thieves than for death. Making the two one and the same forces the companions to consider the consequences of ignoring death and the possibility of the end of their lives.

By portraying death as a theme, symbolism, and as a flesh and blood character, the Pardoner strengthens his arguments made in his sermons on sin and encourages his companions to consider preparations for death and avoidance of sin more carefully. His connections in the story back up his lectures. His reasoning for this is made apparent, if they weren’t already, when he ends his story and encourages the other pilgrims to come to him to pardon their sins “for a grote” (945), or for a groat which was a fourpenny coin. He reminds them that at any moment, any one of them might fall off his or her horse and break his or her neck. With that in mind, he tells them it is a good thing he is among them since he has his relics they may kiss for blessings, and pardons signed by the Pope himself (920-922). Having just told them a story about death and the sins that could lead to death, especially greed, he asks they open their purses to absolve themselves of sin through his pardons so they may die, if they die while on the pilgrimage, with a clean soul and a clear conscience. The host does not buy in to the Pardoner’s trick, but tells him he will help him carry his relics so can “be shryned in an hogges toord” (955). Though it is an appropriate response to the Pardoner’s attempt at selling his admittedly fake artifacts, it does not give appropriate tribute to the extent of finesse shown in the tale.

Lathi – The Indian Secret Form of Defense

Lathi is not an activity to use a bamboo stick or cane to hit others randomly. It is a form of martial arts. Lathi means bamboo stick in Hindi. This type of martial arts often uses a 6 to 8 foot long bamboo stick or cane with an optional metal blunt. Lathi has been used by Indian Police or authority to control crowd. In fact, Lathi has also considered as one of the oldest weapon in the world.

History

For many years, Lathi has been popular among India villages and rural areas, typically in the eastern and southern area of India. It is not only used for fighting against others but also for controlling animals in certain region.

Lathi was used for many different things but the owners of land used it to demonstrate their strength and to help them rule others. They raised large groups of people who were then trained in Lathi, which they used to demonstrate their power over others. Instead of being used as self defense, they were used as an aggressive force that tried to dominate others.

Lathi also has been used for sport around the same time as landlords used it for security purposes. Lathi tournaments often took place between different Indian villages, where landlords could demonstrate to others their power through Lathi tournaments.

Before India was ruled by the British government, the Zamindari system was introduced. The Zamindar trained and hired Lathial armies for many purposes. One of the purposes of using Lathial armies was to forcefully collect taxes from Indian citizens. It was also used by the Indian Riot Police as their primary weapon to disperse rioters, and they only used firearms when the Lathi could not efficiently be used. The system had continued during the British reign over India, and the British government authorized and introduced Lathi as one of the weapons for police and army force in India. At the time, Lathi often used for controlling riots, fights, and crowds against the British government.

After India became independent, the Zamindari system became abolished. This caused the decline of Lathial armies and Lathi transformed into a form of martial art. On the other hand, urbanization also was a reason that caused the decline of this form of martial art.

Although it has been declining, many wealthy landlords and farmers today still train and hire Lathial for security purpose in rural or villages in India. They see Lathi, still, as a form or a way to show their power. Yet, Lathi battles between villages are still happening today, and it remains a famous sport in many villages and rural area in India.

In modern day, Lathi is still one of the primary weapons for Indian police to control riots. All Indian police officers and some security guards today have training in Lathi charge because of its efficiency.

Heart-centered

Lathi is a form of martial arts, but like other forms it has many things which set it apart from the rest. There will be some similarities, but most people will be able to recognize the differences. The dan-tien is the energy center, as it is in other martial arts. This energy center in martial arts is what is behind the distinctive stance that its users take.

Lathi shares many commons aspects with other martial arts, but it is different from other ones. First, it is different from other martial arts in terms of its energy center. In Lathi, the energy center is found at the heart while in others it is lower in the body. It might not seem like a big difference but it does affect the ability of the users of Lathi to perform their movements. It is similar to the difference as the center of gravity of a woman. The woman has a lower center of gravity and it changes the way that she balances the body as she moves. The higher center of gravity is also supposed to impact the body’s ability to heal itself.

One of the most important parts of any martial arts is the breathing techniques that are used. Since the energy center of Lathi is higher; the place that the breathing is concentrated through is also higher. This breathing technique of Lathi is also a reason behind the movements of its practitioners and is said to help with the healing of the body as well.

Spiritual Practice

Lathi is not only a powerful healing therapeutic tool, but it is also a good spiritual practice for individuals. It is a physical practice for the whole-body and it harmonizes the body and mind by moving energy. Its continuous and repetitive movements provide balance and subsequently organize the body. When it moves energy through the body, it also connects our physical body to a deep internal meditative state. On the one hand, it is a very active sport or practice that harmonizes our body and clams our mind and spirit at the same time.

Martial Art

Of course, Lathi is a martial art, but it can be a dangerous one. It is not a game for gentleman and you cannot make any mistake. It is like fighting on the street. The aim of this martial art is to win. Historically Lathi is for security purposes, so it is a gentle, elegant way to move the body, and it is an effective system to bust a body up based on the cane-fighting at the same time.

Training

Individuals practicing Lathi must be able to fight with a stick, which can come with different lengths and thicknesses. Generally speaking, matches are one-on-one but the martial art can also include routine matches for fighting different opponents. Since Lathi uses the heart chakraas their energy centre, practitioners fight mostly in an upright position.

Self defence

Interestingly, Lathi recently has been used by a group of Indian women in the Bundelkhand region who have demanded justice against abusive men, husbands, and fathers. While domestic violence, child marriages, and demands for dowry are still very common in the rural areas of India, a group of women, the Gulabi Gang, have been taught to use Lathi for their self defense, and when needed, they can use Lathi against the harassers.
