Many organists want to be able to play the most wonderful organ compositions from memory. This skill lets them to know the music at a much deeper level and gives many advantages against the organists who do not work on memorizing their music.

But is it possible to store the music in our permanent memory so that we could play it after many months? The answer is yes, and this article will show you how to do it.

First of all, we have to understand that after we memorize the piece the next day we have to repeat it otherwise we will soon forget it. What does it take to truly memorize the composition? We can take the analogy with learning the words of the new language.

Just imagine if you have to memorize 5 new words in a foreign language today. How many times you have to repeat them in order to memorize them? Perhaps repetition of 10 times each would be enough for most people. Will you remember them tomorrow? Not really, unless you repeat them tomorrow, right? So, if you repeat them tomorrow, will you remember them permanently? Not yet.

We have to repeat them about 100 times over a long period of time to be able to remember them permanently. In other words, repetition of just 10 times stores them in our short-term memory, but if we repeat them 100 times over some months, then we will have them stored in our long-term memory.

Going back to organ playing, we can also use a similar system how you could go about in memorizing music and keeping it in your long-term memory. We will use a special strategy to achieve this goal.

Memorize the music and repeat it 10 times. Then you will have to repeat it after one day, two days, four days, one week, two weeks, one month, two months, four months, six months, and finally after one year. Always repeat your memorized organ piece 10 times.

Note that the length of the piece does not mater as long as you repeat so many times. However, I suggest you try something shorter for starters. After 1 year you will have 110 repetitions of this piece and it will be stored in your long-term memory. Then you can leave it for many months, but your will not forget it.

However, I don’t mean you should be playing ONLY this piece for one year. Of course, play and other organ compositions but this is for the sake of an experiment. You can memorize more pieces, if you will have time.

OCD Forum – Different Kinds of OCD Part Three – Repeating Mantras in Your Mind

Are you tired of having to repeat mantras when you know that they will not help and that they make no sense?

It’s about time that you’ve found this article isn’t it!

Here’s what you do, say to yourself, “Today I will not repeat any mantras!”

Here is the one I used to say to myself, “hate bad, love God.” It’s a mantra that I used to say to myself. What does it mean?

Absolutely nothing, it’s magic thinking. If I would have a bad thought, I would repeat this to myself to somehow cleanse my thoughts, the only problem is simply this, this doesn’t do a damn thing!

This is what we in the industry of OCD and anxiety call “magic thinking” What makes you think that you’re magical anyway.

Just simply say “I’m not saying any mantra, I’m becoming normal right now in my thought life.”

Let’s face it, a person that has never had OCD couldn’t possibly understand the anxiety that comes from not saying the mantra when you first stop saying it. You’d have weird thoughts like, I love the devil if I don’t say it and things like that.

Our minds love to play tricks on us sometimes. Here’s the key, You’ve got to trust what you know about yourself. You know that you don’t love the devil, so if you have a thought like that, just chillax and laugh. Say to yourself, “It’s funny how the mind works.”

Don’t be afraid of what kind of thoughts you are going to have, if you fear something, your mind thinks about it, so by fearing something, you cause it to happen. Instead chill out and just know that as a man thinketh so he is.

Are you done torturing yourself? good, now let it go, let go of the mantras. Ask normal people how they think. You’ll have to unlearn thinking in mantras and learn how to think normally like, “did I turn off the iron?”

Now that is normal thinking! Enjoy your time with this knowing that you create your own fears, you can created them, you can destroy them, period.

Take action: Today what I want you to do is to stop repeating mantras in your mind and when you feel anxiety after you refused to speak the mantra just say to yourself, “I don’t care, do your worst!” Don’t be fearful. If you don’t fear, you will be cured. OCD and anxiety is just fear of fear itself. The Bible says, Do not be afraid! Pretty simple right? Well if it’s so easy, why aren’t you following it? There’s nothing else you need to know, just stop fearing, NOW! Go and enjoy your life, isn’t it about time!

Pi’s Infinity: An Analogy

My theist debating acquaintance, MG, from another place, who just doesn’t accept the concept of a temporal infinity[#] (either a linear one or a circular one, either one with cyclic events) on the grounds that you can’t get to “Now” from either the starting point of an infinite past or by going backwards from an infinite future. I’d argue that the everyday concept of mathematical Pi disputes MG’s assertion.

[#] Despite the fact that theists accept the concept as given that God is an eternal / everlasting being without beginning and without end.

[Note: I debated with MG the reason I think that there is a temporal infinity and as such any specific happening would have to ultimately repeat. I often used the analogy of walking around a sphere an infinite number of times and thus repeating being in a specific location at a specific “Now” or approaching “Now”. MG responds… ]

MG – “There is no reason to think a repetitive pattern will emerge. Just think of numbers like pi (an infinite set of numerals that never repeats nor demonstrates any cyclical pattern).”

JP – Even in Pi you will find repeating patterns. How many times will you find say 27, 33, 42 or 007 within the Pi sequence? Each time you find, say 42, that’s a repeat of the first 42! Even the number “4” is a unique event that randomly repeats. For that matter, you could consider Pi to be a series, not of necessity in sequence, of ten separate ‘events’ – 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9. Nice try!

MG – “Even if it did repeat over and over, it would be true that it had repeated a certain number of times. If that number is infinite, then an actually infinite number of events had to be traversed prior to the current one for that particle, and we are right back in the same contradiction.”

JP – Go back and re-read my analogy with the sphere and how you can go around and around an infinite number of times, participate in an infinite number of events, and still be within spitting distance of “The Present Moment”.

MG – “Pi might have the same numeral show up, but not in any CYCLICAL PATTERN.”

JP – And I stated exactly that! Re-read my post.

MG – “You messed up on this one. Just admit it and move on.”

JP – I admit no such thing! The infinity of Pi (ah, you’ve admitted an infinity) is composed of a finite number of individual numbers (0 through 9). That’s a good analogy for there being an infinite number of individual finite events. Note that I have consistently said that infinity consists of an infinite number of finite events. You are just one finite event in a sequence of infinite finite events and collectively that is what infinity is. Back to the Pi analogy: The number 4 is a finite event (like you are a finite event) within the infinite sequence we call Pi. The finite number 4 happens an infinite number of times in the sequence we call Pi. The number 4 is therefore infinitely cyclic within the Pi sequence but the number 4 itself does not have any specific cyclic pattern within the Pi sequence.

MG – “And as long as 4 doesn’t come up with cyclical regularity in pi, then pi counts as a complete counter-argument to your cyclical time argument (for which you presented zero evidence).”

JP – As long as 4 comes up again and again and again, whether in an irregular pattern or in a regular pattern, and as long as 4 stands in for some sort of event, then translated to a cosmic setting, that event has happened again and again.

Discussion:

*MG argues for an absolutely temporal finite Universe which required an actual creation and therefore a creator, and therefore God exists and God done it. However, perhaps even a finite Universe is an infinite one. By analogy, Pi has a finite beginning yet it has apparently infinite duration. Or, even if Pi does eventually repeat or come to finality, there’s 1/3rd which also has a finite beginning but which is also infinite in duration. Therefore, even if our Universe had a finite beginning, it is still infinite if there is no temporal end to it.

*It would take a temporally infinite you an infinity of time to calculate the entirety of Pi, but in attempting to do so, you would be SOMEWHERE within the sequence at any given moment, a moment you would call “Now”. In other words, you could have started a journey through time starting an infinite amount of time ago and still be at a point we call “The Present Moment” or “Now”.

*Looking Infinitely Forward: Let’s say for sake of argument that the “Looking Infinitely Back” problems have been resolved in MG’s favor. That is, the Universe had an absolute beginning a finite amount of time ago. Now there’s the “Looking Infinitely Forward” versions of issues to be resolved.

But doesn’t the issue of not being able to get from an infinite past to “Now” also work the other way around? Presumably if you start travelling – even if mentally – back from an infinite future, you couldn’t thus in time travelling backwards ever reach “Now” either. This is relevant because like Pi [#], we have a finite beginning yet, according to theists, have ‘life’ everlasting or everlasting ‘life’; ‘life’ eternal or eternal ‘life’ in the afterlife. So how do you come back to “Now” from the infinite future? So, theists have the same infinity problem only in reverse.

[#] I’m not really sure how one can have a one-sided infinity as in an infinite past that terminates, or a finite beginning that never terminates. Yet, Pi has a finite beginning yet an (apparently) infinite ‘end’.

*If you can actually have a one-sided infinity as in creation hence an eternal ‘life’, or Pi, then logically you can have an infinite ‘beginning’ or a ‘beginning’ an infinite amount of time ago, and a finite ending, or in other words what you can term as “Now”. If one, then the other. If the other – finite beginning; infinite ‘end’ – then something can undergo an infinite journey in time and arrive at “Now”.

Dynamic Warmup For Gymnasts

In the past ten years, much advancement has been made in the world of strength and conditioning, including the development of dynamic warmup routines. Gone are the days of stretching statically before a sporting event. Before soccer and lacrosse games, you will witness players doing a series of active exercises in straight lines, repeating the same exercise 10-20 times while in constant motion. They will progress to faster drills in the same patterns on the field. There is no reason why you shouldn’t see gymnasts completing the same routine, and do to the flexibility demands of the sport, dynamic warmup is even more important for these athletes to do.

There are several phases of warming up a muscle. First is the muscle activation phase, in which a gymnast performs a few repetitions of an exercise that will initiate contraction of a muscle. This phase is not meant for strengthening, hence the low repetitions. These exercises are examples of a muscle activation exercise:

SingleLegBridge: This exercise will activate your gluts and hamstrings. Lie on your back with one knee bent and the other leg hugged into your chest. Lift your buttocks about 5-6 inches off of the ground as you maintain a flat back with tight abdominals. Repeat 5-6 times on each side.

Deep Squat: Stand with your feet a bit wider than shoulder width apart, with your arms overhead. Squat down by sitting your buttocks back. The back should remain flat as the shoulders come forward. Place hands on the ground, then reach one to the sky and rotate toward that hand. Reach with the opposite hand. Repeat sequence 3-4 times

The next phase is the muscle mobility phase, which starts to introduce a dynamic stretch to a muscle, and will begin to increase the muscle tissue temperature. This is example of a muscle mobility exercise:

Dynamic Supine Hamstring Stretch: Lie on your back with your arms at your sides and your legs straight. Keeping a flat back and tight abdominals, raise one leg straight in the air, then lower it at a moderate speed. If it is more comfortable, bend the opposite knee. Only raise your leg to a comfortable level and do not let your back arch off of the ground. Repeat 5-6 times on each side. You may also raise the leg, then bring it slightly out to the side about 10-12 inches and back inwards 5-6 times. Do not allow the torso to rotate or the hip to lift off of the ground. Skip this last step if you have any hip problems.

The next phase of a dynamic warmup is the traveling mobility phase. In this phase, a gymnast utilizes an area of about 15 yards, adding consistent movement to the exercises. The temperature of the muscles rise, and each muscle is warmed up through its entire range of motion. Here are some examples of traveling mobility exercises:

Quadricep Stretches: Stand tall and bend your knee to bring your heel towards you buttocks, keeping the legs parallel to each other. Grab your foot with the hand on the same side, hold for about 3 seconds, then lower the leg. Step forward about 2 feet and repeat with the other side. Feel a stretch in front of your thigh. Continue the 15 yard distance. When you return in the opposite direction, you may stretch the front of your hip by leaning forward and reaching the opposite hand forward. Hold for about 3 seconds. Continue the 15 yard distance.

Inchworm: This is a hamstring stretch for the back of your thigh. Bend over to reach your hands to the floor, then walk your hands forward as far as you can. Maintain a flat back. Next, walk your feet forward with straight knees as close to your hands as you can. Don’t worry if you cannot bring your feet all the way to your hands. It will improve with practice. Repeat for the 15 yard distance twice.

The final phase of a dynamic warmup is dynamic mobility, in which a gymnast uses the same 15 yard space to complete fast movement exercises such as high knee runs, lateral runs, and side skips, which will fully elevate the body temperature to the level it needs to be to perform on the ice.

A Real Forward Step Is Looking Back And Not Repeating The Same Mistake (If You Did Not Succeed)

Recently, I was thinking about the subject I am writing about here, and I was thinking along these lines: To successfully invest or speculate, you must understand where you went wrong if you failed, and do your best not to repeat the same mistakes. Even better, to succeed, you must purely do what works at the right time, in the right way. I, personally think that is the hardest thing about any investment of any sort.

Genuine success of any sort depends on knowing every inch of failure and how not to do it again if you did it when you attempted to achieve success. If you can understand that statement, you can genuinely get somewhere. If you depend on initial luck and the “luck of the draw” in success, you really will get nowhere. In short, reality is understanding fully how to fail and not doing it, and instead doing what makes for genuine success. After all, people judge you for real successes, not the many temporary misunderstandings and failures that led to that ultimate real success.

In that sense, “We all love to win, but who loves to train?” takes on a brand old meaning. Failure, properly used is the ultimate stepping stone to genuine success, especially in investing, futures, and that type of thing and beyond.

I remember Thomas Edison and his quote that “I have found ten thousand ways not to invent the light bulb, and one way to do it.” That is the reality of genuine success in investing, playing poker or anything requiring cognitive understanding of when to act, when not to act, when to pull back and when to go forward. In brief, there are many ways to lose, but only one genuine way to win ultimately after understanding all those ways to lose: You work through to success. You do not depend on luck, you do not worship the first time making it through “luckily”, success comes through that trial and error understanding work. For those that think I am a pessimist and not the ultimate optimist in understanding the nature of all games requiring investment and future commodities of every sort in a genuine ultimate capitalist way, there is always the Bernard “Bernie” Madoff way of faking it until you genuinely fail, or doing what it takes to really succeed (like the ultimate genuine capitalist I am), which I genuinely prefer. Doing what it takes really, consists of not so much skill, but understanding how to succeed by finding every way to fail until success is certain. Why do you think Jason “Jay” Gould died a failure technically, and Abraham Lincoln is remembered as one of our greatest Presidents of the United States, because in his life, he found every way to fail until he did succeed while Gould, though successful in business most of his life cut corners at crucial moments instead of failing smartly. I get it. Gould died of a heart attack from the stress of maintenance, Lincoln had to be taken out by an assassin of the January 6th, 2021 sort that wanted attention in a sorry way. I get it: Win the right way, or else suffer a fate “getting away with it” gives you in the mirror if nobody else immediately knows what you lied about or attempted cheating at.

NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) is a great persuasion tool to use. NLP involves using a few simple but effective tricks to influence people around you. It is a tool that works because it is a technique that resonates with the subconscious mind. When a person’s subconscious mind has taken notice of you, they are more likely to not only like you, but agree with you and follow through with your suggestions. There are many different ways you can use NLP as a persuasion tool.

Names

Saying a person’s name during conversation is just one way to use NLP as a persuasion tool. When you say a person’s name, you automatically form a connection with that person. In today’s society, it is common for people to be “bad with names.” Don’t make the mistake of letting someone’s name slip out of your mind! Pay attention during introductions and make a conscious effort to remember people’s names. Then, during conversation, use names! This will make the conversation more personal and the person will feel a stronger association with you than they would otherwise.

Mirroring

Mirroring or mimicking your subject is also a great way to use NLP as a persuasion tool. Verbally repeat or recycle some of the words your subject uses. If you notice that your subject has a habit of adding the phrase “You know?” at the end of their sentences, then you can start adding that phrase to the end of your sentences too. You can also try repeating the words a subject says. For instance, if your subject says “It took three hours to get there,” then you can repeat the words “three hours!?” in exasperation. This is a normal thing for people to do in a conversation so it won’t seem out of the ordinary. Mirroring is a great NLP persuasion tool because it makes the subject unconsciously believe that you are similar to them.

Assumptions

Another great technique for NLP as a persuasion tool is to use assumptions. If you are trying to use NLP as a persuasion tool to get a lady to go on a date with you, you would assume she already agreed to go on the date. You would never ask her “Do you want to go to the movies?” Instead, you would say something like “What type of restaurant should we go to on Saturday night?” This assumes that the woman has already agreed to go out with you on Saturday. Quanta Personal Development Review – How To Change Your Self-Image

Not happy with where you are in life? Not happy with your relationships? Not happy with your finances? Do you want to change it? Your self-image is very closely related to your subconscious mind.

If you have failed continually in the past, your subconscious mind has programmed you for failure. You see, the subconscious mind is programmed 1 of 3 ways. It is programmed by repetition, by input from an authority figure, or by a traumatic experience.

However, the good news is you can change. You can change your self-image by changing your subconscious mind programming. After all, the subconscious mind cannot distinguish between what’s imagined and what’s real.

Step 1 – Realize You Can Change. The first step in changing your self-image is realizing and believing that you can change. It may not be easy, but with practice it will become automatic, and by repetition, will become a part of your subconscious mind. You are never too old or too young to change your self-image.

Step 2 – Mind Programming Exercise. “IF IT’S GONNA BE, IT’S UP TO ME.” Repeat this statement for ten minutes at bedtime. Repeat this exercise before bedtime, with eyes closed, not totally lying down, but propped up in a prone position. Repeat this statement with a sense of certainty. As you make this statement, picture a screen, through your mind’s eye, of yourself EXACTLY AS YOU WANT TO BE.

In other words, create a picture of yourself (your image) as you would be if you could snap your fingers and it happened immediately. Not a future self, but a mental image as if you were already that person.

As you view the image of yourself on the big screen and repeat the words “IF IT’S GONNA BE, IT’S UP TO ME, squeeze your right hand then release. So here’s how the exercise works:

a – picture yourself as a perfect you on the big screen;

b – say to yourself “IF IT’S GONNA BE, IT’S UP TO ME”;

c – squeeze your right hand and release (this technique is called NLP).

Step 3 – Repeat This Exercise For 10 Minutes for 21 Days. Repeat this process about 10 minutes before bedtime (it may seem like 2 hours). Repeat this exercise for 21 days (you should begin to see results in 7 days).

What is so powerful about this simple exercise? Simplicity often can have a profound effect. When you remove all blame, whether from your surroundings, your friends, your family, your contacts, your job, your spouse, your relationships, etc., you are taking total and complete responsibility for your circumstances. You realize that your circumstance, whatever that may be, is not up to anyone else. IT’S UP TO YOU.

In summary, we are taking an elevated self-image screen, attaching complete and total responsibility and anchoring with NLP. This anchor of squeezing the right hand can be used when you are faced with situations that may be overwhelming, or when you feel insecure, or lacking confidence. This anchoring will automatically create a perfect mental image of yourself because the subconscious cannot differentiate between what’s imagined and what’s real.

The imagined, perfect mental image of yourself is now anchored with a trigger of squeezing the right hand and can be employed by you at any time. Once this technique is programmed in the subconscious you can turn it on at will.

Understanding the psychology of your self-image will mean the difference between success and failure.
