BUSINESS SUCCESS AND DAMIAN KUTZNER

What we think affects our behavior as well as our relations with the people around us is something that everyone agrees with. That has been one of the secrets to the successful business career of Damian Kutzner. As lecturer, spiritual teach and physician Dr David Hawkins said:

“Everybody is like a magnet. You attract to your reflections of that which you are. If you are friendly, then everyone else seems to be friendly too.”

It has to be said that Damian Kutzner has succeeded because he has used his personal magnet magnificently.

So Many Scooters, So Little Time

When Razor Scooters first burst on to the scene in 2000, many thought they would disappear into oblivion never to be heard from again. Instead, a whole new category of kids’ recreational gear was born.

The original Razor Scooter is still Razor USA’s best selling item, though the company has launched a dizzying array of new products such as the “PowerWing Caster Scooter”, the “RipStik”, the e-Series Electric Scooters, the “Dirt Quad”, “Scream Machine”, “Pocket Mod” and many others. Some even speculate that Razor will one day come out with its own line of electric cars.

In the wake of Razor’s phenomenal success, many copy cats emerged to rival the original Razor Scooter such as the “Mico” Scooter, the “Xootr” and many Chinese knock-offs. RazorUSA even introduced various models based on the original push scooter concept. Despite the competition, Razor continues to dominate the push scooter market both in terms of popularity, variety and durability. Consider this review from a mom on epionions.com: “So are they still cool? Absolutely!! We’re the neighborhood hangout for kids of all ages, and they all flock to the razor scooter. Only the coolest of the cool have these… (oh, I can’t believe I said that!)… “

So far, Razor’s list of push scooters includes the following:

2-Wheeled Scooters

o A Scooter

o A2 Scooter

o A3 Scooter

o Pro Model Scooter

o Cruiser Scooter

o Carvr Scooter

o A5 Lux Adult Scooter

3-Wheeled Scooters

o Kiddie Kick Scooter

o PowerWing Caster Scooter

Given all the choices, which one is best for you or your loved one?

Over the past several years, I have made a living selling Razor Scooters. Based on my experience, here are my recommendations:

By far, the most popular model we sell is the Razor “Pro Model” Scooter. The “Pro Model” is well designed, is sturdy, looks cool and can take a beating. This scooter was designed by the Razor Team riders themselves, so it’s built for stunt and trick riding. This scooter is for more advanced riders aged nine on up, though the manufacturer says the scooter is fine for kids as young as five.

Beginners should start with the “A” Scooter which closely resembles the original Razor scooter from 2000. It’s portable, easy to ride and comes in a variety of colors like Red, Black, Green, Blue and even Pink. It’s also very inexpensive – never more than $30. Variations on this scooter include the “A2” and “A3”. The “A2” includes a wheelie bar so riders can begin performing stunts and can add a bit more variety to their riding. The “A3” is like the “A2” except it has shocks on the front wheel and larger 125mm wheels – it’s sort of the Cadillac of the A series Razor Scooters. These scooters are for kids five and up according to the manufacturer. There is also the Purple “A2” Scooter for those looking for a truly unique ride.

For toddlers, Razor makes the “Kiddie Kick” Scooter which has three wheels and is made for four to five year olds who want to familiarize themselves with the world of kick scooting. Because it has three wheels, it’s easy to stand on so kids don’t need to have fully developed balancing skills to ride it.

For the latest in new scooting technology, there is the Razor “PowerWing” which has suddenly become very popular as it represents another twist on the evolution in asphalt recreation that has come to dominate urban landscapes since the invention of the skateboard in the 1960’s. You’ve probably seen the commercials for the “PowerWing” on TV, but if not, you can do a search on YouTube and find a copy there. The “PowerWing” is still so new that kids are figuring out how to turn it into a stunt riding apparatus; no doubt we’ll see some interesting tricks performed on it in the coming months. The “PowerWing” is good for kids aged six and up.

The “Carvr” scooter is a very weird hybrid between a skateboard and a scooter. It’s barely worth mentioning in my opinion since it’s not a good seller at all and it really looks like a mutant “scootboard” that should be put out of its misery – fast. No doubt RazorUSA will discontinue this item some time in the near future.

What about teenage and adult riders?

Again, the Pro Model scooter is the most popular young adult scooter that we sell since it has become a kind of urban phenomenon that rivals both skateboarding and BMX. The stunts riders perform on this unit are really amazing and there are hundreds of YouTube videos out there to prove it – a small fraction of which are on our web site. Because of its broad appeal, the “Pro Model” Scooter is a great ride for kids young and old – even college kids use it as a commuter vehicle between classes.

If your interest is primarily transportation, then you’ll want to check out Razor’s line of larger scooters – the “Cruiser” Scooter and the “A5 Luxe” Scooter. The “Cruiser” Scooter is cool because its larger wooden deck gives it a classic feel and can accommodate bigger feet. It also has larger 140mm wheels giving it a bit more height.

The “A5 Luxe” Scooter with 200mm wheels is by far the closest thing Razor has to a push commuter vehicle. We just started selling this scooter and already we’ve seen it gain traction quickly. Even I want one! I’m sure we’ll see this scooter pop up across campuses and even office parks nationwide in coming months. It’s easy to carry and because it’s foldable, it can be taken on the subway and even right up the elevator. Once Razor adds the cup holder, you may just want to ditch your car.

How to Quiet a Noisy Bike

A new bicycle is usually pretty quiet when you are riding but as they age there are certain noises such as squeaks, rattles, clunks and clicks that you may hear. These noises can be very important in the long term care of your bicycle.

Pay attention to the noises such as a rattle in the bike and where the rattle comes from. A rattle coming from the front of the bike maybe a loose headset and a simple tightening could very well get rid of that altogether.

If the rattles sound like it is more in the wheels, take a look your wheels and it you are running Presta Valve Tires you may want to remove the valve nuts, these little rings can be a source of aggravation. Some people just throw then out altogether or I have seen some people put small rubber washers under them and tighten then snug so that water doesn’t get into the rim. If you have a rattle in the wheel area they are a good place to start checking

Loose Cassette Cogs can also cause rattling and will seem to come from the rear wheel. You may need some special tools like a chainwhip wrench to tighten up the cassette or you may end up just replacing it altogether depending on the amount of wear.

Other things that may cause a rattle are loose water bottle cages, you may have to bend the cage back to hold a smaller water bottle and of course make sure the bolts holding the cage are tight.

The tools in your tool bag could be hitting on each other or on the seat post and causing a rattle. This can be fixed by wrapping the tools in a rag or even an old sock the sock can then double as a glove to keep you from getting too greasy if you need to change a tire or do some minor roadside repair.

The list above is by no means inclusive, there are many other things on the bicycle and maybe even the rider that can cause a rattling noise when you are riding, virtually all are harmless if caught in time.

Squeaking and squealing are two noises that can be annoying and could signal something serious, so do listen to your bike.

A dry or poorly lubricated chain will often cause a sort of squealing or squeaking noise. To fix that simply lubricate the chain, but be sure to wipe off any excess to keep the chain from attracting a lot of dirt and clogging up the chain with sludge.

Derailleur pulleys can also cause a squeaking noise which is often described as a bird chirping. This is usually easily detected because the faster you go the louder and faster it squeaks. A few drops of oil between the pulley and the side plate will usually take care of that noise.

Clunks when pedaling are usually caused by a loose bottom bracket or loose pedal or both. If the bottom bracket is loose you may be able to adjust it, tighten it or you may have to replace it altogether. If the clunking is from the pedals you may be able to tighten them up and get rid of the noise.

Clicking noises can come from a variety of sources also, the most likely being the wheels. The spokes on the wheels cross each other and since no one including me seems to ever think of lubricating these they get dry and tend to make some clicking noises sometimes. A simple solution is to lubricate the spokes where they come together once or twice a year and you will probably eliminate that possibility altogether.

The crankarm coming loose or not being properly lubricated or the chainring bolts coming loose can also cause some clicking noises. Removing, cleaning and lubing the crankarm, tightening or replacing the chainring bolts should take care of any problems in that part of the bike.

Suicidal Tendencies Interview

TIS= The Indie Spiritualist

DP= Dean Pleasants

EM= Eric Moore

TIS: This is a really nostalgic tour you’ve put together here. You have the Cro-Mags, DRI, Underdog…all of who, along with yourselves, are hardcore legends! What’s the tour experience been like for you so far?

DP: It’s been really cool man. Sort of a blur, as tours usually are, but a lot of fun. We call the bus we’re on “the submarine”, we go underwater and we emerge at the gigs. Every day is a different crowd of people but its always fun. We’re playing stuff off the No Mercy record as well as Suicidal Army and other older stuff, so the crowds really enjoying it, and we are too. We’re really getting into our niche right now, which is usually what happens, and then tour is over. We’re all bonding and it’s just been a lot of fun.

TIS: Is it me, or do you guys tend to steer clear of touring with a lot of the newer “punk/hardcore” bands?

DP: Not really, we just do what works for us. We did some shows recently with Deftones.

EM: Yeah and we toured with Lamb of God a while ago. We tour with a lot of the new bands, and then we smash them, haha.

DP: We did some festivals in Europe and it was just such a diverse lineup. We did a show with Jay-Z, Missy Elliot, Kiss. It was crazy.

EM: Yeah, believe me, it’s diverse. Suicidal is very diverse.

TIS: Did you guys ever skate yourselves?

DP: Oh yeah, absolutely.

EM: Dean still skates. His board is right over there. I used to skate when I was skinny too. Like all the time. I fell and busted my lip and shit, but I’d always get right back up.

TIS: Haha, cool. So what boards did you grow up on?

DP: Well when I was a kid, my first board was this little polyurethane, plastic thing when they first came out. That was before they were skating bowls and stuff. I’m skating a Pep board now with monster wheels and Indy trucks. I can show it to you.

TIS: Yeah that’d be awesome if you don’t mind.

DP: No, not at all!

EM: I always had the Wal-Mart boards man. I had the Wal-Mart board of life. I’d tell my mom I wanted the one that scooped on both sides and she’d be like, “No! You’re gonna get this $10 board, and you’re gonna like it”, and I’d be like, ok, fine, I’ll just ride some BMX bikes. Because when you’re a thug growing up, you’d just be stealing whatever you liked.

DP: So here’s my board. It’s definitely got a work out on this tour and is definitely a cruiser. The guys at Rip City (Santa Monica, CA) hooked this up for me. I told them I played in a band with Jim’s brother and they hooked it right up.

EM: Yeah, the only reason he’s skating a Pep board is cause Pep is our homeboy.

DP: Yeah. I really like to cruise, so on this thing, it’s like two kicks and you can go forever, and it’s fast. Before this board, I skated Dogtown’s and I also had a Jesse from Santa Monica Airlines.

TIS: Rad. So Sucidal, particularly Mike Muir has been noted as having a beef with Rage Against The Machine. In fact, he wrote a song called Do What I Tell You, which is a parody of the lyrics from Rage’s song Killing In The Name. Is this still an ongoing thing?

EM: Hahahaha.

DP: Honestly, I don’t know too much about it. We actually just came from South America where we played with Rage.

EM: Yeah, we played with them. It was only three bands, us, The Mars Volta & Rage.

DP: Yeah and that was pretty cool, so I don’t want to say anything bad about them.

EM: But we really don’t have anything bad to say anyways.

DP: They put on a hell of a show. It was crazy. There were 50,000 people going nuts. I mean, we all put on a good show, but Rage PUT ON A GOOD SHOW.

EM: Yeah, Rage was killing it.

TIS: Cool. So is it safe to say you don’t play that song anymore, or at least didn’t then?

DP: We definitely didn’t play it there.

EM: It was really a beef between people, not bands. It wasn’t like we had to whoop their asses, or they had to come at us.

DP: It was a war of words, which Mike was involved in. What happened was the bands were on tour together, and someone was on the phone, and someone pushed someone, and it was really all Tom Foolery. Then they said something about Mike in an interview and the band being old or something funny. Mike asked us if we’d mind if he wrote a song about them. He didn’t really want to involve us. I wasn’t mad at those guys. So then he wrote Do What You Tell Me, I was like, ok, he really is mad at them.

So we were going to South America, where we’d been offered two festivals, one in Chile and the other in San Paulo. Rage’s manager was like, well I don’t know if they want you guys to come, but he asked them and it had been long forgotten. And the Brazilian people said they wanted Suicidal to come, so we went. We got there and saw Tom, and Zack, and said hi and everything was cool.

TIS: Right on. What’s the word on the new album? Is there a tentative release date?

DP: Well we wanted to release the No Mercy/Suicidal Army record to tour on because Mike had a vision of doing the records over and showing people a harder side of Suicidal. We usually play three or four of the songs in our set. As far as the new record, it’s really based on timing now because of the way the industry and distribution is. We really want to be out right now and rebaptize the people who were into us before, as well as show the newer generation of kids who we are before we put out a record. We don’t want to release something that isn’t going to be heard. That’s really important to all of us. When you put your heart and soul into something, you want it to be heard. And we’re going from this US tour onto Europe and South America etc.

TIS: Yeah my friend Randy was saying on the way up how much he liked the new recordings of the No Mercy stuff and what you guys did with it.

EM: Yeah man, that’s that new, hard and fast stuff.

DP: It’s a throwback to the way they recorded a long time ago. I was originally in Infectious Grooves, before Suicidal, and we were used to doing stuff a certain way, a lot of jamming and writing, but there was a formula to Suicidal that made it sound the way that it did. And we went back to that formula. Mike was doing the hard rhythms and I was doing the solos, and the drummer and bass player were doing their thing. It really makes for a different type of recording. And that’s what we did with No Mercy. When you listen to it, you can hear everybody doing what they do best.

TIS: You mentioned Infectious Grooves. You guys are playing your first U.S. show in 10 years on Nov 23rd. Can you talk a little about that?

EM: Yeah man, it’s going to be a big show. We’re playing at The House of Blues in Hollywood.

DP: Infectious was able to play in Chile with RATM and The Mars Volta, and we’d never played there before. We’ve done some touring in France, Europe and Australia though. Infectious’ first tour was opening for Ozzy.

TIS: Yeah I remember that. Would he come out and sing Therapy with you guys?

DP: Yeah, and actually, when he shot the video with us, he had a broken leg. We were in Chicago and I’ll never forget it. Anyone can say what they want about Ozzy, but he’s the nicest guy, he really is.

TIS: So is there any truth to the Suicidal/L.A. Sureno Venice 13 gang rumors? You can nod once for yes, and twice for no if you’d like.

EM: Hahaha, oh man.

DP: Haha, well there’s a lot of gangs that claim Suicidal but I myself am not a gang member.

EM: I wear red so…(laughter).

DP: We have a lot of people who are into the band that are also into other things that may not be savory. When we play in Ventura, we have Hell’s Angels at our shows all the time. We have a lot of 1% biker gangs that are into Suicidal. They never really cause trouble at the shows, but they’re there. When we play Ventura, the whole street is lined up with Hells Angels.

TIS: Sounds insane.

EM: It’s weird.

DP: Yeah, it’s crazy. So a lot of people like our music and for us, that’s an honor. There’s a lot of people in prison that like our music and they say it helps them through their day so that’s great. For us, it’s most important to touch somebody. If you can help someone through their day when they’re having a hard time, that means something. So as far as the gang thing, I don’t know. It’s crazy and people are definitely doing their thing.

TIS: Cool guys. Thanks for your time.

Some of the Most Popular Roller Derby Shorts

There are a lot of padded shorts to choose from. Some are designed to be used in a wide range of sports, while some work well with only one particular sport. Given below is a list of some of the most popular roller derby padded shorts available in the market. Obviously there are many more designs available and your choice may vary from what I have mentioned in the article, but I hope this can serve as a guide to help you find the best roller derby padded shorts that can meet your requirements –

The McDavid HexPad Roller Derby impact shorts features a low profile design and is a great buy for someone looking for lightweight impact protection. The shorts are very lightweight, slim and offers complete mobility to the player. Many girls love them because they are so lightweight, slim and modest. Girls looking for extreme protection do not prefer these shorts.

These shorts are preferred by roller derby girls looking for the most advanced roller derby protection. Wii Gaming Guide – Guinness World Records the Video Game

Guinness World Records The Video game for the Wii is seriously underrated and is a real barrel of laughs! This game is packed with 36 mini games that are perfect to play in multiplayer mode. From a health aspect, many of the games get you ‘running’, ‘throwing’, ‘pushing’, ‘pedalling’ and more with the Wiimote and Nunchuck, so there is lots of action to be had that will get your heart pumping. There are also some really difficult accuracy games that require skilled hand eye coordination to break records. My favourite has to be the ‘Most Dominos Toppled’ record game! Read more about this below.

Today I want to share some how-to’s with you so that you can get the most fun packed action out of the games. The onscreen instructions are only visual, and can be a little confusing at times. So here is a guide to my favourite mini games in Guinness World Records The Video game:

Hint: The mini games are grouped by location in groups of 3. The first game is free to play; the second game will need to be unlocked with 1000 points, and the second game (usually the most fun) with 5000 points. To gain points, you will need to get high records in the ‘free’ games. If you gain a ‘Guinness World Record’, you will usually be awarded over 1000 points. Then you will simply need to click on the game to unlock it. The game will prompt you if you need to collect more points. Good Luck in breaking those records!

Mini Games Group 1 FREE – Fastest Time To Shear 5 Sheep. You will use the Wiimote as your shepherds crook to catch the sheep. Point at the screen, hover over a sheep and press A to grab your sheep. Then your Wiimote will control an electric sheer. You will need to press A again and move the sheer over the sheep’s body to shave it. Quick Tip – Try holding the Wiimote at an angle to cover the most ‘wool’ as you shave with the sheer. aim to shave each sheep with just three strokes.

UNLOCK 1000 POINTS – Land Speed Record. Hold the Wiimote horizontally. Tilt the Wiimote gently up and down to move your rocket from side to side as it picks up speed. The aim of the game is to avoid any obstacles that will slow you down. This game appears easy at first, but as soon as the pace quickens you will have more obstacles in your path! Don’t crash!

UNLOCK 5000 POINTS – Fastest Time To Push A Lorry 50 Metres. Flick the Wiimote and Nunchuck down in time with the onscreen arrows to get ‘pushing power’. Counseling That Works – Engaging That Resistant Teenager

“Forty-four? the teenager asks. Yes, that’s my age. At least it is for another few months. That’s what I tell my young clients, even though everything inside me is itching to assure them that I am 18 with 26 years of experience. Although adolescence is a time most of us remember as stressful, awkward, and confusing, it is also a period of life that we often wish to recapture. We do so because it was a time of adventure, discovery, and exhilaration. The mixture of feelings we experienced as teenagers is often present in the treatment of adolescents.

Providing therapy to angry or mistrustful adolescents who do not even want to be in our offices, much less talk, is one of the most challenging scenarios we face as Christian counselors. It is not one, however, that we encounter infrequently. Many teenagers come into our offices reporting that The school thinks that I should be here, or My pare not’s say I need to come, or The court says I have to. How do we engage these young people? Where do we begin?

An Angry Young Man: Johnny was one such young person I encountered very early in my career. I had just begun my first job in the field, and Johnny was a middle-schooler who had been referred to services by his school. He was described as a very troubled, angry, and non-communicative young man who tended to be a loner and was given to bizarre acting out. Reportedly he would regularly make all sorts of noises during class and frequently got out of his seat and wiggled about the classroom floor like an eel. My supervisor explained that Johnny had already gone through three other therapists and that I did not have to accept him as a client. However, since I needed to build up my caseload, I was free to do so. Johnny arrived at our first session wearing jeans, sneakers, a black T-shirt, and a partially opened black leather jacket. Plopping into a chair, he pushed himself into the corner as he straightened out his legs. He dropped his chin to his chest and flipped up the collar of his jacket, which he then zipped closed with an angry jerk. Any little shift of my head to catch some glimpse of his face was met with a countering shift of the client’s posture. This kid was not allowing any contact.

All my attempts at establishing rapport bounced off Johnny like a brick wall. Listen, I said to him, I know you do not want to be here. I am sure the last thing you wanted to do was run over here as soon as school let out. He lifted his head but dropped it again, shaking it from side to side. We sat in a painfully long silence, and I began thinking more about how Johnny might be feeling right at that moment. I also began paying more attention to what I was feeling about sitting there and how I might have felt when I was his age. I thought about what I did know about Johnny and how he might have handled those feelings if remaining in defiant, Impassive silence was not his number one reason for being. This is boring! I blurted out Johnny grunted and turned away. I made an exaggerated movement to stay in his view. He turned further and I got out of my chair, saying I could not take any more boredom and leaned against the wall to gain his view. Johnny turned away, head down, his chin back inside his jacket. I got down on the floor in front of him.

I shifted back and forth a few times, checked my watch, and got back in my chair facing him. Look, I do not know about you, but just sitting here feels like detention. Johnny’s head popped up, curious and mistrustful. Getting out of my chair and onto the floor makes it a little better, but it also makes me feel stupid and probably has you thinking I am pretty weird. There is got to be a better way of spending our time together. If you do not want to come back next week, Ill tell my supervisor that this isn’t going to be productive, and you won’t have to return. Johnny sat up straighter. But here is your situation.

The school has told your parents that you have to go for counseling, and your parents have made it clear that they are going to follow through with the schools direction. You do not have to come here again, but that means your parents will take you to another service that has been recommended, and you will have to keep replaying this until the school is satisfied that you have gone for counseling. That can be here or nowhere else. If it’s done here with me, that’s fine, but I’d rather not spend another hour like this. If you do not want to talk about home or school, and then bring something in we can talk about…music, books, comics, magazines, cards, if you like. So how about next week? Do you want me to tell my supervisor to recommend other services to your parents, or do you want to plan to come back here and bring something we could talk about or do next week? Johnny shrugged. Does not matter. Is it true you like BMX riding? Do not they have magazines or catalogs on them? Yeah, I got a ton of them. You mean I could bring them in here to read? Sure, but if you do not want to talk about them bring in a few for me. I do not want to do charts with you sitting here.

The next week Johnny showed up with about five magazines. I began learning about such things as the gear ratios and the various alloys used in the manufacturing of BMX bikes. I also discovered what excited and disappointed this incredibly bright young man. Three weeks later, we were walking toward my office to begin our session. Johnny was moving quickly and ahead of me. We have got to talk! My mom is really starting to tick me off! Over the next several months, I continued to learn more about BMX bicycles, and we got a lot of productive work done, the positive effects of which were reported from school and the home.

Drawing on our own Creativity: Across my professional career I have matured (hopefully) as a counselor through continued training and experience. I have learned to incorporate and refine joining, reframing, and paradoxical techniques to negotiate the types of challenges presented by teenagers. The reason, however, I chose to share this case from my first month in the field is to help us recall the intuitive and creative use of ourselves in helping others that was there when we were first drawn into the field. Before we had theory and training, we had ourselves, our sensitivity to others, and our openness to the spirits leading.

I strongly believe that counselors must be informed by theory and prepared by training, but these should enhance and not replace those natural gifts which previously existed. In working with clients, especially those like Johnny, it is very important not to be rigidly constrained by one’s own therapeutic model. Ultimately, counselors need to be directed and constrained by the therapeutic relationship their knowledge of themselves and their clients and not by rigid allegiance to or dependence upon a given model or theory.

It is also helpful to re-frame ourselves as well as our clients. When we make the shift from viewing these situations as those in which we must overcome resistance to those in which we must increase client readiness, we make an Important attitudinal shift one that will reinforce our roles as facilitators and will help protect us from viewing our clients as adversaries. Find a counselor for suggestions.

It is also important to find something in our clients that is likable and interesting and delve into their interests. Most Importantly, we need to be willing to join our clients on their own ground, to enter their territory. This may involve assuming a one-down position from time to time, but isn’t that Implicit at a certain level in all our therapy? That is, how can we expect to help our clients if we do not first learn from them?

Teaching Children Conscientiousness for Success

Do you know there’s a success factor you can start instilling in your child right now? It’s a trait that, according to a tsunami of research, is more predictive of success in life that any other skill or aptitude. It’s the often overlooked trait of conscientious behavior.

Conscientiousness 101

Your child may be too young to know the word, but that doesn’t mean he or she can’t grasp the concept. A sense of right and wrong is one of the first things parents instill in a child. At its most basic level, conscientious behavior is knowing what the right thing to do is and doing it. To a child, conscientiousness begins with simple tasks such as brushing teeth and picking up toys.

As the child develops, conscientiousness expands to embrace complex ideas like telling the truth, keeping promises, and being responsible. In addition to encouraging these behaviors in your child, it’s important that you set the same standards for yourself, providing a consistent model to learn from. For example, if you practice spending restraint to save for an important item, your child is more likely to learn the value of advance planning and setting money aside.

Study Findings

According to numerous studies, conscientiousness isn’t just one factor in achieving success, it is the single most reliable factor in predicting success at school and in the workplace. Recent studies by the National Institute of Mental Health and the National Institute on Aging have found that conscientious people are more likely to find employment and less likely to lose their jobs. They also tend to earn more money and report higher levels of satisfaction with their work.

While these findings may seem predictable, others findings are more surprising. Several studies show that conscientious adults experience less stress, have sounder physical health, and enjoy better social relationships. This has proved consistently true regardless of career choice, talents, and other personality traits such as openness, agreeableness and extroversion. The image of the absent-minded professor and free-spirited artist may seem at odds with conscientiousness, but in fact both of these types succeed because they bring a high degree of organization and dedication to their endeavors.

The Success Chain

Habits begun in childhood start building a success chain that leads not only to financial success but success in health, happiness and fulfillment. Researchers have speculated that the reason conscientious people have less stress is because they meet their obligations and avoid last minute scrambles to finish their work or pay the mortgage. Their good health is the outcome of taking care of themselves and not skipping regular checkups. Social relationships flourish because others can count on them. You can help your child start building this success chain at a very young age. The rewards will remain forever.

Tips On Avoiding Knee Pain When Cycling

For many cycling enthusiasts, knee pain is something that they regularly experience. This pain is caused by iliotibial tissue, and in medical jargon is usually referred to as IT band syndrome. This tissue is thick and fibrous, and runs between the hip and the knee. Because of the constant up and down movement of the legs in cycling, it starts to get stretched. Soon the stretched tissue starts to rub against the bony areas of the hip or knees – and that’s when the pain starts.

Quite often beginners are more likely to suffer from this type of pain. That’s because they get over excited and ride for hours without paying attention to their knees or feet. There are some other possible causes too, including wrong sitting position, faulty saddle, cleat alignment, hard riding, and individual body anatomy. There’s not much you can do to reduce the pain apart from cycle more slowly. Doing this gives the body a chance to get used to the physical stress caused by cycling. Stretching exercises and minimal hard riding can also help lessen the pain.

It’s a good idea to check the adjustment of your seat. When it’s exactly right, there’s a lot less pressure on the knees. Pain tends to develop behind the knee if the seat is too high, and in the patella if the seat is too low. Ask the salesperson at the cycle store to help fix the seat at the correct height when you’re purchasing your bicycle.

The cleats are another component that need to be checked. Their position needs to be neutral, so that they don’t float too much internally or externally. A bike shop can check the shoe position using the ‘fit kit’ method.

Another type of knee pain sometimes experienced during cycling is chondromalacia. This occurs because the cartilage behind the patella is subjected to constant pressure during cycling. Stretching and strengthening the quadriceps muscle, which runs along the front of the thigh, can help reduce this discomfort. You can sit on a chair to stretch the leg. Try to keep your legs straight while pedaling and avoid sideward movement.

Sometimes just resting the knee or applying ice packs can reduce the pain. It’s also sensible to reduce your cycling time until the pain in your knee or hip subsides. Avoid riding at high speeds and along bumpy roads for a while, even after the pain has gone. It can also be helpful to do some mild stretching exercises and ice the knee both before and after your ride, to help keep the muscles loose. Make sure you keep your legs warm if it’s cold, too.

If you find that the pain keeps occurring, it’s important that you visit your doctor or sports clinic for an accurate diagnosis of the cause of the pain and appropriate treatment.
