Vinyl records are becoming increasingly popular. Since 2008, sales have jumped sharply, and have increased in numbers over the years since. 2011 will be vinyl’s biggest year yet. So why are vinyl records so popular, decades after the CD player became the standard for music playing?

1. DJing. Disc jockeying has been around for a while now, but access to equipment has become more readily available. Brands such as Audio Technica and Stanton have been producing cheap DJ turntables modelled on the Technics SL-1200, one of the best turntables of all time. These cheap turntables have been effective in attracting budding DJs to a world in which the admission price had previously been to high. Vinyl records are used by DJs due to the capacity for scratching and good sound quality. With more beginner DJs in the market for vinyl records, their sales have jumped.

2. Collectibility. In a world where the only representation of a music collection is folders on a hard drive or an mp3 player, people are returning to records due to their ‘collectibility’. CDs in their cheap plastic cases pale in comparison to vinyl in their beautiful big sleeves. Coloured vinyl has played a part in the rise in popularity of vinyl records. There is also the element of finding rare vinyl records and being able to build a collection that increases in value as it ages.

3. Coolness. There’s always been that x-factor with vinyl. It’s hard to pinpoint the reason why, but vinyl records are just cool. Popular with hipsters everywhere.

4. Audio quality. For audiophiles, there’s no doubt that vinyl records are the cheapest and easiest way to access high quality audio. High quality recordings in digital format are hard to come by, and vinyl records are comparatively plentiful. Mp3 uses a lot of compression that reduces the quality of the sound. The frequencies are all there with vinyl records.

5. mp3 Download Keys. People love the convenience of mp3, but often want a ‘hard-copy’ of their music as well. Record companies have managed this by including a download key inside the record sleeve, so that people can buy the record then go online to download it to their iPod.

7. Nostalgia. The generation who were collecting vinyl back in the 70s and 80s are now at least in to their 50s. Many of these people have held on to their vinyl LPs over the decades, and after playing their old records recognised the wonders of the analog recording. It’s easy to buy in to the hype of digital media, but as more and more people go back to the records they bought as kids, interest in vinyl is being reignited in the older generation too.

8. Less convenience. An odd thing to attract people, to be sure. Since playing music these days is as easy as pushing a button on an mp3 player, and getting new music as easy as clicking the download button, the relative difficulty of vinyl is getting people more invested in their music. The extra care involved in taking care of vinyl records is making people care about their music.

9. Radiohead and The Beatles. These two extremely popular bands are creating an interest in vinyl for two different reasons. Radiohead released their In Rainbows album in a special ‘discbox’ format which included a CD and two 45 rpm vinyls. This move has been credited in getting Radiohead fans, of which there are many, interested in vinyl records. Conversely, The Beatles catalogue was recently released in digital format on iTunes, which was accompanied by a massive advertising campaign. Alerted to this, legions of Beatles fans were reminded of their old vinyl records (see point 7), or downloaded the mp3s and were reminded of how much better it was on LP (see point 4).

10. Enjoying an Album as a Whole

The music industry has shifted steadily towards singles being the major money makers. Mp3 has helped this along by presenting bite sized, easily digestible nuggets of music that slot in to playlists on an mp3 player. People are returning to vinyl records because they present a complete work of art, rather than a made for the masses single.

When I was going to college, I loved to go to the library to study, slink into a nice comfortable chair, and read until I drifted off to sleep. When Borders came out with their neighborhood blockbuster book stores, I did the same thing, and often left the store with a book I had the pleasure of sampling in the same comfortable way. Now, most people buy their books on the Internet, and read them on their Kindle.

A phenomena of the Internet has been the consolidation of retailers into new monopolies. Retailers such as Netflix replaced blockbuster stores such as Blockbuster Video, who found it impossible to sustain its brick and mortar retail stores against the power of the Internet and the popularity of download streaming. Newspapers have been outdated by means of publishing the written word more expeditiously, and, as a consequence, journalism has had to adapt to try to maintain some kind of quality.

The same has happened to the publishing industry, and the brick and mortar bookstores. Borders, one of the “Blockbusters” of books, was gobbled by Barnes and Noble, who now finds its biggest competitor to be Amazon. Amazon has developed a suite of tools that allow authors to enter the publishing industry, a place once reserved for the elite, and more closed than the world of Hollywood filmmaking.

A recent study found that nearly 70 percent of consumers say it is unlikely that they will give up on printed books by 2016, and the British marketing research agency Voxburner recently surveyed more than 1,400 people, ages 16 to 24, about their media-consumption habits; the survey found that 62% of the respondents said they prefer printed books to eBooks.

I was surprised by these findings because I was sure that eBook sales had been growing at an exponential rate. The annual BookStats Study reports that 457 million eBooks were sold last year; a 4456% increase since 2008, when 10 million were sold ( http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/books/2013/05/15/e-book-sales/2159117/ ). Although paper titles sales are higher, you cannot ignore the steady increase in the number of eBook sales, which I still think is the future of publishing. I think you have to account for the demographic, in that most older readers will naturally choose a print book, whereas younger readers, who tend to do their homework on their laptops, will opt for an eBook.

According to successful New York Times Best Selling Author Hugh Howey, who has turned his back on the publishing industry and now publishes his own books, he makes more money self-publishing and it frees his time that he would be using chasing agents and publishers to write more and better books.

Print books are still being purchased because the non-Generation Y readers are slow to convert to Kindle. They prefer having a printed book in their hands, so there will be a market for the printed book in the near future. However, eBook Sales are still up, and older readers are buying Kindles. Impulse buying is much stronger with eBooks, which are delivered instantaneously, and they are cheaper than print books. I think the reading public will still prefer print books, but, as time goes by, eBook sales will overcome them, merely due to the demographics.

My eBooks both have printed versions that sell on Amazon and are also offered at Barnes and Noble. Although they sell only online, online book sales account for more than 50% of all book sales, as recently reported in Digital Book World ( http://www.digitalbookworld.com/2013/online-retail-now-accounts-for-nearly-half-all-u-s-book-sales/ ). I think that the trend is toward online sales taking over traditional retail outlet sales. We have observed many book store closures and consolidations in the past few years and I think we can continue to see more. I myself will miss being able to go into a book store, pick up a book and relax in a soft chair while sampling its passages to see if I feel like buying it, but you cannot deny the trend. My eBook sales are still running about three times higher than my printed book sales, but the option is there to appeal to both markets, and that is what Amazon is doing with giving authors their “Create Space” platform.

I think publishers have to offer both eBook and print book formats to appeal to both sides of the market. In the end, it is the quality of the book and the promotions that are used to bring awareness to it rather than the medium that is going to control. Like any other product, you have to package and offer it to the consumer in a way that appeals to his or her buying habits.

However, as the reading public ages, new readers will be almost exclusively eBook oriented. I regret the demise of the printed book, but I don’t see that there will be anything that can be done about it, except to preserve them in libraries and museums. With the trend toward iPads and Kindles, and public schools even proposing issuing iPads to students, young people will eventually grow up not knowing what it is like to read a printed book. Technology will do the same thing to the book that it has done to the printed newspaper.

You have the knack in writing and creating works of words. You have the creativity to do a three hundred to five hundred word article or blog in a span of thirty minutes. You can play around with words to make a creative blog post or article that will sell like hotcakes. Well if you have at least one of these characteristics, you might want to give freelance writing a try!

Here are some steps on how you could start out becoming one:

Create Sample Articles. Before applying as a content writer, create a set of samples first. About five to seven samples of various niches would be enough to sway an employer in taking advantage of your service. This portfolio is more like your resume. This will give potential employers a heads up of your writing skills and the potential of your articles to draw in unique traffic.

The faster you can provide the articles, the greater the charge should be. If you have a bulk order, you can also give some discounts.

Research and Creativity. Be creative and try to read some articles which are of the same niche with the one you are tasked to do. Play with the words. Sound natural and convincing but do not try too hard to sell products as it may sound over the top. Once you have finished writing the article- check it with Copyscape to see if you have some hits. Copyscape is a software which detects your articles if it is similar to other articles published on the web. Surely, employers will not pay for something that is similar to other published contents.

Submit the Article. Submit articles in a timely manner. Do not delay articles as keywords have a very short half life. If you delay the submission of articles, chances are, the keywords are not as hot as it was before! Be organized and timely- surely, your employers would love to have writers providing contents way before the expected due time. Also write some notes assuring them that in case they find any deficiency or errors with the articles, you will assist them to make it look better as per their preference. This is like the “warranty” term of your business and who wouldn’t love that?

Receive the Payment. There are employers who pay real time- some pay upon giving you the assignment while some will pay once they receive the articles (I have some other articles which will tackle on these topics but generally, receiving payment will be through PayPal or other online sending/receiving merchants).

Currently, Google cloud business is growing at a faster pace than the competition. Products and services to watch are G Suite, a new chip called the EDGE TPU that can carry out machine learning processes on Internet of Things devices, and they have some cloud supported Blockchain projects on the go with strategic partners. An important aspect of Cloud computing is Security, and this too is a new area of focus for Google. As of January 2018 Google spun off Chronicle, to be the cybersecurity arm and work towards a ‘digital immune system”. Businesses are generating more and more information every day and will require more complex computers, and incremental computing infrastructure. Google believes this can be handled through the AI machine learning capabilities they are developing.

• Transportation and Logistics: Google /Alphabet anticipate opportunities to continue the disruption in this sector. Investments include LIME, a scooter company, as well as UBER, LYFT, and a few other ride hailing services. Google is leveraging its’ abilities in AI to improve healthcare data management, and their AI focused subsidiary, DeepMind, has an app called “STREAMS” that helps to detect kidney injuries based on lab results, so doctors can be alerted quickly via the mobile app and promptly escalate urgent cases.

AI is critical to Alphabet’s long-term outlook as it is the thread that runs through search and advertising, cloud computing, autonomous driving, healthcare, and many of the company’s other endeavors. This includes the exploding market for digital assistants and Smart Home products. Consumers can already choose among big competition, like Apple (SIRI) and Amazon (Alexa). Google wants to win this market, and every other market it delves into. We see that Google/Alphabet is on the leading edge of AI technology, making more and more investments to protect and expand their revenue streams. When we embody that level of success – happiness just happens for us – we don’t have to think about it much, and it’s not something we often think about anymore.

Before that when you don’t have that much success, you tend to think about it a lot, and life doesn’t feel as prosperous and good as it could potentially be.

This is not a fantasy either – we are literally talking about real success; true success for us that completely matches what we believe makes a successful life.

Though it might not be so easy for others to envision and consider for themselves, we can do it pretty easily – as long as we allow us some spirits to guide us a bit…

You can see that this is true from the fact that they aren’t totally happy with where they are – and that’s not a good thing at all.

It’s not a question, really. You want to be the best possible version of yourself, and being successful and prosperous is not about following being successful in ways that don’t resonate with you.

If you follow other people’s definition of success and it obviously doesn’t feel right – that’s going to lead to problems later, and we already kind of know that.

That’s why we have to define that straight away – not leaving any confusion so that we’re troubled with problems later about what we’re really after when it comes to success.

That is not a small thing to be confused about prosperity and success, and now we understand how to make it more intelligible and understandable in the long term for us – and the spirits can help us with all of that.

Becoming a person with a super healthy personality is an exceptional quality to have. Below I outline some of the ways, from my humble experience, that can take you on this life long journey. Enjoy!

The decision to become a stay-at-home dad should not be taken lightly.

For many, the decision has already been made for us. Perhaps you have recently become unemployed and your spouse is bringing home enough money that staying home to raise the children is an economically feasible option.

There are obvious advantages to being a stay-at-home dad, most notably daycare issues. Between the monthly costs and the limited interaction with your children, there is little good to be said. I agree that, if both parents are working then daycare should certainly be considered. For many, holding a full-time job would not be possible without daycare.

The idea of having my children in daycare almost scares me. Someone whom I hardly know at all molding and shaping my children leaves me feeling uneasy. I want my wife and I to be the ones to teach our children right from wrong; to teach them respect for others and for themselves; to teach them that it’s okay to feel the way they are feeling; to simply teach them.

Earning an income while staying home with the kids is becoming increasingly easier. More and more business are becoming open to the concept of “telecommuting”. And if that does not work so well for you, then consider starting your own business. If you’re good at something and passionate about it, make it a business. And make it a business that you can run on your own terms, and one that can accommodate your child minding responsibilities. Keep the hours you want and work when it is convenient for you to do so.

Take sometime to research businesses that can be done on the internet. While there are a lot of scams out there, there are also legitimate businesses and other legitimate ways of making money. Very few of these businesses will make you rich, but with some hard work and dedication you can get ahead.

Don’t let your pride stand in the way of you being a stay-at-home dad. We live in a society where many still believe that it’s the mother’s role to stay home and raise the children. It is becoming more and more common for fathers to be the primary care-giver, and for mothers to be the financial support.

It is easy to forget that being a stay-at-home dad is very much a full-time job. You don’t get up every morning to shower and shave, put on your suit and tie and head out the door with your coffee in one hand and your brief case in the other trying to get to the office in the rush hour traffic so you can be on time for your 8:15 meeting.

There’s no paycheck at the end of every week. The overtime you work is not compensated for by way of extra time off. This job doesn’t easily allow for “time off”.

I’m not attempting to paint a gloomy picture of the perils of being a stay-at-home dad. Nor am I trying to do the opposite. I am simply urging you to consider the positive side as well as the negative. This is a big decision to make, and not one that should be taken lightly.

If you do make the decision to be a stay-at-home dad, please make the time to keep your children your number one priority and the real reason that you are at home.

A disturbing finding

As I was doing my routine keyword analysis for my Internet marketing, I accidentally discovered something that I am not very comfortable with. I found that there are almost more than 2,000 searches a day in the Internet, for the phrase Ways to Become Anorexic. Well, if you are reading this article, you might already know what anorexic means, but just in case if you don’t, anorexia is an eating disorder where people starve themselves despite of already being very skinny, and they are convinced that they are overweight.

I know that there are people affected to anorexia through genetics. But if you are searching ways to become anorexic by finding information in the Internet, you are not likely the one who falls under this category. Why on earth should you do something which is a potential threat to your life?

If you still think that becoming anorexic is your choice of losing weight, at least please read this article to the end. This is the only thing I ask you to do.

Have you ever seen anorexic people? They are thin of course. Sorry, let me rephrase, they are skinny. Well, you may think that being skinny is attractive, but try to ask those guys out there. Do they think anorexic girls attractive? Or do they think healthy and full-figured models more attractive? Being an anorexic will make you skinny, no doubt about that. But is that kind of skinny your purpose of losing weight? Weight loss is only a mean, and not the purpose. It is a mean to be more healthy, or to be more good looking, or to have more energy. Effective and successful people always focus on purpose, not means. If you want to be an effective and successful person, please do reconsider your actual purpose of losing weight.

Secondly, becoming anorexic not only doesn’t give you the outcome you want. It also come with a package of potential diseases. Do you want to know what are the potential health problems that you might get for becoming anorexia? Here are some of the list:

• heart failure, which leads to death
• inability to have children
• osteoporosis (weak bones which break easily)
• kidney failure, and you may have to depend on a dialysis machine for the remainder of your life
• hair loss
• gastric rupture
• tooth decay and staining due to frequent vomiting
• bruises easily
• sensitivity to cold
• death

Or maybe you choose to become anorexic because you want to lose weight fast. Believe me, there are still lots of ways to lose weight rapidly and healthily. But if your definition of fast is overnight, then you should remind yourself the saying Rome is not built in one day. Remember the saying slow and steady and win the race. Moderation and balance is always the way to win through life. Extremism will never return any solid outcome, no matter from what areas of life.
