As you know, biology is a study of all living things. This is the general topic with several subtopics. We will address the subtopics later. The “biology” of the Bible covers the whole range of life forms, both physical and spiritual.
The first thing that gets our attention when studying the Bible is, it is very scientific. It is NOT filled with pages of nonsense. It agrees with the true science that is revealed in nature. There is no conflict between the Bible and true science.
The Bible gives us a scientific explanation for the origin of life. It is found in the narrative of Genesis 1 and 2. In the first place, life must come from life. You cannot mold a clay pigeon and expect it to fly away. I do not care how long it sits, it will remain a clay pigeon. The Bible tells us God created all physical and spiritual life to bring honor and glory to Himself. He created it as we see it today. It was created full grown instantly. Fruit trees were in full bloom, animals were able to reproduce, flowers were in full bloom, humans were always humans, and so on.
The Bible tells us about spiritual life. According to the Bible, mankind was created in God’s image and likeness. Mankind was created as spiritual beings. Humans are composed of body, soul and spirit. There are also other spiritual beings created by God. We call them angels. Only spiritual beings can worship, praise and thank God for His love and grace. Mankind was not made a little above the monkeys. They were made a little lower than the angels. Only spiritual beings are capable of loving God or warring against Him.
Another thing the Bible teaches us is, God is the Giver of all life. Without Him no life forms would exist. God did not create life forms to run on their own without His continual care. He is personally organizing and preserving all life forms all the time.
God created the DNA code that is found in all life forms. Each life form has it own unique code. These codes are packaged in genes. Genes are packaged in chromosomes. Each is made after its “kind.”
God created both plants and animals to reproduce themselves through the union of male and female counterparts. Mankind is no exception.
The Bible teaches us that the animal and plant kingdoms are not genetically related. They have different functions and purposes. They do coexist with one another in various habitats. The plant gives off oxygen and the animal gives off carbon dioxide. In this way, they sustain one another. The plants were originally created for food for all human and animal life. Mankind was created to be the delegated lord over God’s earthly kingdom. Life was to be lived in social niches. Each plant and animal was to have its own niche. With few exceptions, only animals can migrate from place to place. Plants are rooted in the soil and for the most part are unable to live without this arrangement.
The Bible teaches us that the earth is the only place that has plant and animal life forms on it. The earth is unique in this regard. We will search a long time to find our type of life on another planet. This does not mean there could not be life on some other planet out there. The universe is most likely populated with spiritual beings we refer to as angels.
The Bible teaches us that mankind is God’s crowning creation and takes precedence over all other life forms. Because of mankind’s unique connection with God, there is no superior race. We are all of one race. It is called the human race. No “ruling elites” are authorized by God to suppress others. We are all commanded to love God with our whole body, soul, and spirit and to love others as ourselves. This is the quality of life God has given to the whole human race through the Lord Jesus Christ.
The Bible teaches us all life is a gift from God and is to be treated with the greatest respect. We are not to be wasteful of God’s provisions for us. As stewards of all of God’s blessings, we are to maintain a loving relationship with our Creator-Redeemer God and our fellow living creatures through the Lord Jesus Christ.
The Bible teaches us as a result of mankind’s rebellion against God, all of life on planet Earth is under a curse and that this curse will be lifted when the Lord Jesus Christ comes back to restore it to His original intent. It teaches us this could take place any time.
