The Egyptian God Osiris

It is undisputed that the Egyptian god Osiris was one of the most important gods of ancient Egypt. Osiris was one of the oldest gods, but he was not the one and only of the old gods. Neither was the Egyptian god Osiris plain or easy to understand, because he, like many of the old gods, had many attributes.

The Egyptian god Osiris is mentioned almost everywhere, from the tombs to the temple walls. Osiris was normally portrayed as a mummified man in either a sitting or standing position.

I do not believe that the Egyptian god Osiris can be classified simply under the title of being a god of death.

Osiris was most defiantly the judgment god which is proven by what is found in the ancient papyrus scrolls. There we see the Egyptian god Osiris sitting with his sister-wife Isis and another goddess called Nephthys. Usually 42 sitting gods can be seen somewhere above Osiris and the two goddess, they are the 42 judgment gods which judge the dead. Usually this scene also contains the scales, where the heart was weighed against the feather of Matt, the goddess of justice. The heart must be free of all sins and light as the feather.

The 42 judgments are;

The Egyptian god Osiris was also seen as a fertility god, actually this is believed to be his original function. Everything in ancient Egypt seems to be as today, constantly evolving, for better or worse.

The most known mythological story surrounding the god Osiris, is the story of Osiris own murder. He was killed by his brother Seth, and Seth severed Osiris body and scattered it around Egypt. Isis would then begin a long journey, and retrieve Osiris body parts, except one part.
