Kids and those in their pre-teen years all need parents’ guidance and understanding. In correlation with this, is the need to practice a sound disciplinary measure to make them follow the correct path. It has always been said that “spare the rod, spoil the kid”. True enough, there are parents who make use of stricter measures to impose discipline on their erring children. While this method is widely used many years ago, it is no longed condoned nowadays.
Many parents found themselves facing incarceration after being sued for hurting their own children, whether physically and psychologically. Studies conducted on children show that inflicting harsh punishments on children causes mental disorders that may affect them more than we perceive. There are even some who become mentally unstable.
There are a lot of lawbreakers and killer who have been found out to have been abused physically by parents and other people in the name of discipline. Fathers and mothers who thought of pulling their children in line by punishing, have unknowingly created a potentially harmful person. Psychologists say that more criminals were unknowingly bred to be thus by their own parents than by outside gangsters.
There are a lot of books advocating correct disciplinary measures, but parents know that there are no such thing as standard disciplinary measures. If there are, they won’t be applicable to all children. Even the most expert on parenting would certainly agree with that fact. Some children responds well to simple advice and would stay in line without much effort on the part of the parent, but there are also some who will not, unless you implement stricter measures.
Children needs parents to mold them but sometimes, it is parents who learn from their children. Sometimes, it is the children who shows the parent the correct way of treating another human being, because most of what parents do to their children would eventually come back to glorify or haunt them, depending on how they did.
