Around 187 years ago Edwin Beard Budding invented first lawn mower for cutting the grass on extensive gardens and sports grounds. Since then a lot of discovery and research has been done on this tool and today there are several types of lawn mowers available that you can choose for different types of jobs. In such a situation choosing the right one becomes confusing. But don’t worry, because I’m here for helping you out.

Basically all of the mowers available in market can be divided into four categories:

1. Reel mowers: These are one of the first and most basic ones. These are also known as cylindrical mowers and these include blades situated on a revolving cylinder and a stationary bar for propping up the grass. When that stationary bar props up the grass, the blades located on cylindrical reel cut it down. These can be used perfectly for cutting shorter heights of grass in comparison to longer and rotary designs. The area cleaned by these mowers looks even and cleaner. The grasses left are also fine.
2. Rotary mowers: As the name suggests, these mowers can be used for doing the job that can’t be done perfectly by cylindrical ones (cutting down the longer and rotary designs of grass). This category involves a blade that spins on speed equivalent to the speed of engine. This blade is located on a deck that also acts as vacuum chamber for raising the grass that has to be cut. However, area of grass cleaned by these mowers can’t be as cleaner as the one that’s cleaned by reel mowers because the horizontal blade tends to bend while cutting grass.
3. Robotic mowers: For those who love technology even while gardening there are robotic mowers that can cut the grass by themselves. They can clean up to acres of area and for cleaning larger areas you can use multiple robotic mowers. You’ll just need to setup a boundary of wire boarder around the ground so it can detect the area that has to be cleaned. Self-docking mowers are also available in market. These mowers often come with sensors for detecting rain, thus minimizing our need while cutting the grass. That’s why these are my personal favorites!
4. Hover mower: These are known for the hovering design. Just like rotary mowers these mowers also include a rotating blade. However, there’s a major difference in the blade itself. These include a cushion of air that propels the blade while rotary mowers include blades mounted on wheels. These are great for cleaning uneven lawns and areas that include hard to reach corners.
