Basing On The Season You Were Born In, What Does 2012 Hold For You?

The time has come again for our usual yearly series of articles on forecasts. Our very first article will touch on this year’s forecast basing on the season you were born in. After that, we will have another article basing on your Chinese Horoscope and the last article of this series will be on Feng Shui. You will be learning about the favorable and unfavorable sectors in your home for 2012.

Let’s begin by determining which of the 5 groups you belong to. The first group of people are born between 4th February and 4th April, this group is considered the Spring people. Spring people have lots of Wood in their chart, as Spring is the season where Wood is at its strongest. Generally, Spring people favor Metal as Metal helps to weaken the excessive Wood in their charts.

The second group are the Summer people, born between 6th May and 6th July. Generally, Summer people have lots of Fire in their chart, which causes them to be driven, but hot-tempered at the same time. If you belong to this group, Water is your favorable element as it helps you dilute the strong Fire in your chart.

Thirdly, we have the Autumn people, born between 8th August to 7th October. The dominant element of Autumn is Metal, as a result, Autumn people favor Wood, which helps to balance the excessive Metal in their charts.

Group number four belongs to the Winter people, born between 8th November and 5th January of the following year. Water is unfavorable to Winter people as Winter is the season where Water is at its strongest. Therefore, Winter people get along best with Summer people because Fire and Water balance each other. In other words, you can also say that Winter people favor Fire.

Last but not least, we have the Earth people. Earth people are born during the four Earth months of each year, which are as follows, 6th January to 3rd February, 5th April to 5th May, 7th July to 7th August and lastly, 8th October to 7th November. Earth people have lots of Earth in their chart, their favorable elements are those which weaken Earth. Earth people have more favorable elements than the other four groups as there are three elements which weaken Earth.

Because of having more favorable elements, Earth people are usually more tolerant than those under the four groups. The three elements which Earth people favor are Wood, Metal and Water. Right now, you probably already know which are your favorable elements and which are the elements that you should avoid.

Let’s move on by looking at the elements of year 2012. 2012 is the Water Dragon year, Dragon represents Earth. If Water and Earth are both your favorable elements, this will be your year to shine.

For Spring people, this will be an average year for you, as Water strengthens Wood, your unfavorable element. In order to improve your luck cycle, you need to increase the effect of the Fire element in your daily life. You may be wondering, why Fire instead of Metal?

As Water is present, more Metal will strengthen Water, which in turn strengthens Wood, your unfavorable element. Fire weakens Wood instead of strengthening it. Now, your next question might be, how to increase the effect of Fire?

Firstly, by using more Fire colors, which include Red, Orange and Purple. In terms of food, you should try to eat more spicy food, barbecue food, as well as take more chocolate and coffee. Spending more time driving and working in front of your computer also helps to increase the effect of the Fire element in your daily life.

I have good news for the Summer people. Both Water and Earth are favorable to you, as they weaken Fire. You should make use of this year to propel yourself to success. Any major projects or important decisions should be made and settled by this year.

As for the Autumn people, it will also be an average year for you. Although Water weakens Metal, Earth strengthens it. The result is strong Water, as Earth strengthens Metal which in turn strengthens Water. Since Water is strong, the presence of Wood will cause your luck cycle to turn for the better.

Now, how can you increase the effect of Wood in your daily life so that you can enhance your luck cycle for this year? The best way is to surround yourself with books or clothes. Books and clothes represent the Wood element. If you don’t have many books or clothes, you might want to spend more time in the library or shopping for clothes.

In terms of color, you should try your best to use Green. Eating more Green leafy vegetables and green fruits will also help to increase the effect of Wood in your daily life. In terms of fruit, Kiwi works best.

Next, we come to the Winter people. Unfortunately, the Winter people are the most disadvantaged among all five groups. Because of the strong Water and lack of Fire, you might find yourself going through a very frustrating year. It is a must for you to enhance your luck cycle by increasing the effect of the Fire element in your daily life, which is especially true during the Winter months of 2012. Do remember to wear more Red, Orange and Purple, as well as eat more spicy food.

Last but not least, it will also be an average year for the Earth people as Water is favorable but Earth is not. Those born between 8th October to 7th November must look out for challenges relating to your parents. As you are born in Dog month, the year pillar, Dragon clashes directly with your month pillar. Whenever there is a clash with the month pillar, it signifies challenges relating to your parents.

For the Earth people born in the other 3 months, you should increase the effect of Wood in your daily life in order to enhance your luck cycle. Before I end, this is just a general guide to your favorable elements. In order to have a more accurate analysis of your favorable and unfavorable elements, please consult a professional Chinese astrologer.

With that, I wish you a smooth sailing 2012 ahead.

Melinda Doolittle – The American Idol for Season Six

I like being entertained and if you have been watching this seasons’ Idols in competition, you will probably agree with me and think they should just hand over the crown to Melinda DooLittle now.

Yahoo TV is reporting an October 7th, 1977 date of birth for DooLittle. Which happens to be a date that is very near to last years winner Taylor Hicks’ date of birth. But Hicks has several different sites reporting inconsistencies on his date of birth. Some sources are saying it was 10/6/76, while others are saying it is 10/7/76, and still yet there are others that say it was on the 8th, and even one site reported January 24…

…and it is really driving this stargazer nuts, I mean really, you are either born on the 6th or the 7th, in October or January. I am wondering how these folks make it to work on time.

Anyway, getting back to Melinda DooLittle, and hoping that Yahoo TV got her birth data right, I took a look at DooLittles’ stars for 10/07/77 in Brentwood, TN at sunrise.

Melinda is having what is called in astrology her Saturn Return. It simply means that the planet Saturn, in its transit right now, is coming to pass the same exact position it held when Melinda was born.

This astrological occurrence (Saturn Return) usually happens for all of us around the ages of 28, 29, and 30. It is a time when we want to do what we came here to do. We want to quit messin’ around and get down to life’s business. This Saturn Return for Melinda is happening in the sign of Leo–and the sign of Leo is the sign that rules talent, creativity, and the stage. Being an American Idol contestant is perfectly fitting.

Now although Melinda has her progressed Moon moving through the sign of Leo and ready to conjunct her natally placed Saturn–and that is a very good thing for Melinda as it gets her recognition (Saturn) as a stage performing powerhouse (Leo) with massive popularity (Moon) –but I am just not sure if that is enough to get her the crown.

I was hoping to see several favorable transits from Jupiter to her natal and progressed planets as was with past season idol winners. Especially when I don’t trust the American Idol voting process. I mean really, they make such a big deal over these voting numbers each week but never a big deal of how these numbers are exactly processed –and so, when you know that an anagram for the phrase AMERICAN IDOL is DEMONIC LIAR it sort of leaves one, at least me, in an doubtful frame of mind as to the voting integrity of American Idol. Oh, but I still watch each week. I told you, I like to be entertained, and this Melinda DooLittle knows all about delivery and entertaining.

Now speaking of anagrams the letters in the name MELINDA DOOLITTLE when rearranged become ALL-TIME NOTED IDOL. Ya gotta love it.

So I am thinking, perhaps the time of Melinda’s birth will place transitting Jupiter accordingly–like on her ascendant or midheaven–and she will be our next American Idol. Or perhaps this other anagram I found ELIMINATED TO DOLL will come into play meaning that one of the younger gals beat her out. Gina or Jordan come to mind.

Whether Doolittle is meant to have the Idol crown or not (which only an exact time of her birth will tell for sure) there is one thing for certain–her life from here on in will not be the same…

…as Melinda’s progressed Sun has just moved over progressed Uranus and is getting hit with a trining transit from Uranus. So there is will one surprise after the other for Melinda. And one way or the other, voted in or voted off, Melinda DooLittle will be in a recording studio somewhere belting out one goose-bump song after the next. Oh my, but wait…

…I just noticed one more thing. The planet Neptune, which is the planet that inspires music, measures 13 degrees of Sagittarius at Melinda’s birth, which in total degrees of celestial longitude measures to become the number 253. This number 253 can become the date 5/23 , which this year happens to fall on a Wednesday, which is after Tuesday, which is a date that has in the past been very near the date when other American Idols got their crown.

I guess we will just have to wait and see if MELINDA DOOLITTLE and the name anagram DOMINATE IDOL TELL will put her at the finale.

House Season 5 Episode 22 "House Divided"

Looks like House is at it again; amazing us with his dry sense of humor, while carrying on his conversations with his imagination, Amber. His split personality reveals his inner thoughts through Amber and the charisma they share is remarkably funny. While House calculates his famous trial and errors of medicine, we get to see the somewhat fun side of him while putting together a Bachelor party for Chase.

House now seeks his professional inner-tuition, Amber for his impeccable diagnosis on a young man who is deaf. During the struggle of the diagnosis, House becomes his “cocky” self and begins to diagnose the boy by lack of sleep. After a few attempts at discovering what was wrong with the young man, he decided to carry on with the plans for Chase’s Bachelor party and making sure to inform his best bud, Wilson. Of course Wilson is still sour about his divorce, so he insists he is not coming to the party. House is not surprised but instead, gains Wilsons curiosity by telling him he does not care if he shows at the party or not. Little did Wilson know, the party was going to be held at his apartment!

Now that House has established his plans for the party, he attempts to demonstrate a bartender fire trick in the morgue of the hospital. The comical side of House shows once again as he accidentally lights a body on fire and quickly tries to put the flames out on the dead man’s body!

Of course, House is determined to diagnose the young man while having his fun. So he comes up with a brilliant idea (along with Amber’s help, of course) the vibrations of the music! So he proceeds to walk into the hospital room, where the young man is resting, with a 1990’s big boom-box on his shoulder singing along to the song, “Fight the Power” by Public Enemy. Not to mention, he had on sunglasses that were of the 90’s generation! House was sure to come prepared during the diagnosis I guess.

Back to the party @ House inquires helpful advice from Amber who offers up a stripper’s name for this party. A woman named “Karamel” (with a “K”). It turns out, Karamel was a stripper from a previous Bachelor party that House had thrown and he liked the fact that you could do body shots with her. Not knowing Chase was allergic to Strawberries, (or did he?) he consumes himself in Wilson’s apartment bathtub, drinking a bottle of wine while “talking” to Amber. Soon after, Chase licks a drink from Karamel’s abdomen and tastes strawberry and then falls to the floor. Fortunately, he is OK but taken to the hospital just to be safe.

I can’t wait to see what the next House Season 5 Episode 23 “Under My Skin” brings into this comedy of events.

Arsenal FC Season Review 2010-11

This season mirrored many others of the previous few seasons, as Arsenal again displayed beautiful stylish, flowing football and they produced some memorable nights at the Emirates Stadium, including the defeat of Barcelona in the Champions League group stage and an emphatic victory over Chelsea.

The optimism of the early season was short-lived as Arsenal again finished the season without a trophy, the Gunners finished in fourth place in the Premier League, which will now require them to qualify for next years Champions League group stages.

Like so many of the previous seasons in recent years, the Gunners season was full of promise and they looked certain to win their first trophy for six years when they faced a lowly Birmingham side at Wembley Stadium in the Carling Cup Final in February, but Arsenal were surprisingly defeated by a determined, tough tackling Birmingham side, who showed a resilience that Arsenal have sadly lacked over recent years. The defeat in the Carling Cup Final appeared to shock the team and their confidence evaporated, as their season finished with a whimper.

Even the most fervent Arsenal fan must now begin to question the policies and management of Arsene Wenger, who enjoyed so much success during his early season with the club. Failure to correct obvious problems within the central defence and a lack of tenacity within the team, took its toll as the season progressed. Many fans have refused to criticise the manager in previous seasons, but now most realists will admit that any criticism are justified.

Wenger has vowed to continue with the club’s policy of developing their own players and refusing to spend huge amounts in the transfer market, unlike many of their Premiership rivals. This decision will place the manager under huge pressure next season, with the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and even Liverpool set to spend large amounts on players during the summer months.

Arsenal are still credited with playing beautiful football and have continued with the development of several young players, including Jack Wilshere who is set to become a leading player for both club and country in the years to come. Wojciech Szczesny is proving that he has the talent to become the reliable goalkeeper that Arsenal have been seeking for several seasons.

Arsenal’s activity in the transfer market this summer will be closely watched, failure to make the right signings could be a defining moment for their manager, as the fans who pledge their allegiance to the manager and display banners around the stadiums reading “In Arsene we trust” they may finally lose patience.

English Premier League Season 2008 – 09 – Which Teams to Watch For?

EPL has started for the third week so far…. Have you had any clue that which team will dominate this season? Is it going to be Chelsea who have a red hot start at the early stage of the season, or Manchester United who have yet to show their real strength, or Young Arsenal team who have lost one match last weekend but relived almost immediately after the young players were given a stern words from their coach.

From the immediate rebound performance of Arsenal, I am very positive that the young players are surely the hot contender for the English Premier Title this season. The young age and energy are the strength of this young team. They can beat any team in the league at their good form. However, they have to be focus which is their weakest link. Most of the players have played together for quite sometime and can gel well. After the loss to Fullham last week, they have learned the lesson well and beaten Twente in Champion League Group match during the mid week followed by a emphatic win over New Castle 3 – 0 this weekend.

Chelsea, on the other hand, has shown sign of fatigue after three matches. The first match was a fantastic one with 4 -0 win over Portsmouth, followed by another win 1 – 0 at Wigan but they only managed to draw with Tottenham 1 -1 at home this weekend. Well, thing will not look good for them if they continue to lose point like that at home…..

Manchester United has to decide their emphasis on which title they want….The mid week result did not go well for them when they lost to St. Petersburg 1 -2 in their Champion League Group match. It is not going to be easy to get the double titles again in this season.

At this early stage, it is still too early to predict which team will be the winner for EPL this season. However, if I have to pick one team it has to be Arsenal to win this season!

Be my guest and place your prediction. Visit my blog at the link below.

Football Betting – End-of-Season Games

Everyone loves a trier, especially when it comes to putting down your readies. There’s nothing more galling for punters than to realise that your selection was ‘not off’ and that you’ve not even had a fair run for your money.

Blanket television coverage and the greater transparency of the betting exchanges have raised awareness of the ‘non-trier’ issue in horse racing, but football punters need to be on their guard too. It’s clear that all is not well in the world of football, judging by the recent match-fixing scandal in Germany involving referee Robert Hoyzer, ongoing investigations into some Italian results and irregular betting patterns on obscure European and international matches.

Thankfully, the consistency of results in the bigger leagues (and especially in England) indicates that there is no reason for lack of punter confidence. The main problem – as in horse racing – lies around the margins, in those matches (or races) not subject to the full glare of the media spotlight and where skulduggery is less likely to arouse suspicion.

All very trying

However, my research suggests the ‘non-trier’ issue does rear its ugly head towards the end of the season, even in the major leagues. Most leagues are competitive enough to ensure they go right to the wire in the battles for championships, places in Europe and safety from relegation.

But, inevitably, some teams have nothing left to play for in the final weeks of the season, which is where problems can arise.

The last few weekends of a league season feature three types of match:

1. Matches between two teams with nothing to play for.

2. Matches between two teams with something to play for.

3. Matches between one team with something to play for and one team with nothing to play for.

Out of focus

The commitment of either team cannot be taken for granted in the first category, so the most sensible betting strategy towards the end of the season is to focus on categories two and three.

Matches in the second category should be assessed using your usual techniques. (Anybody who doesn’t know needs to read our football betting articles on inside-edge-mag.co.uk – Ed), but the best betting opportunities often lie in category three, where there’s always the potential for a ‘non-trier’.

This isn’t to suggest that anything underhand takes place in these games, merely that a slight drop in focus by one team can make all the difference in a competitive league such as the English Premiership.

There may be many reasons for this drop in focus – including the widely held view that some players are ‘on their holidays’ before the end of the season. It’s equally likely that, given the demands of modern football, a player who has been carrying an injury will be rested once his team has nothing left to play for, or that there may be some easing off in training sessions. Whatever the reasons, our results at the bottom of this article show a team with something to play for is more likely to win a match against a team with nothing to play for.

Across the top three English divisions and the major European leagues that we analysed (Spanish Liga, German Bundesliga and French Ligue 1), these matches usually produce a win rate of 50-60% for the team with something to play for, and a win rate of 20-30% for the team with nothing to play for. The stats vary a bit from year to year and league to league, but overall are pretty consistent.

It’s a bone of some contention that such figures offer conclusive proof of the non-trier effect, but there’s one crucial piece of supporting evidence that swings the issue for me. If there was no link between the results and one team’s urgent need for points in such matches, we’d expect a higher win rate among higher-placed teams than those struggling near the bottom, since that’s what has been happening during the rest of the season. In fact, the win rate of teams battling to avoid relegation is abnormally high in such matches at the end of the season – virtually on a par with the win rate achieved by teams at the top of the table who are chasing titles, places in Europe or play-off slots.

Fight for survival

For example, the last five seasons of the English Premiership have produced a win rate of 55% for teams with something to play for. That figure does not vary, no matter whether the team is in the top six or the bottom six.

It’s a similar story in other leagues, though the win rate of relegation-threatened teams in such matches does tend to be slightly lower overall than that achieved by teams near the top of the table.

So, do these stats alone offer a good betting opportunity? The simple answer is no, but there are some refining touches that can put these figures to good advantage.

Let’s look at the overall picture first. A 55% win rate would give a tidy profit margin if the average odds available were evens, but that’s unlikely to be the case in matches where one team has something to play for and the other team doesn’t.

Taking the games that fell into this category last season in our featured leagues, a level-stakes bet on all the teams with something to play for would have brought a small loss. This was due, in part, to last season’s lower-than-average win rate by these teams, but a more significant factor is the reduced odds that punters are asked to accept on such teams.

How to beat the odds

The bookmakers generally factor in the ‘nothing to play for’ syndrome when pricing up end-of-season matches, though a few do slip through the net. If you’re good at making your own book on matches, you can spot these matches – otherwise, you will find it difficult to make a profit backing blind on the teams with something to play for.

The counter argument, of course, is that the value lies in backing against these sides, given that teams with nothing to play for will be available at artificially inflated odds in such matches. This doesn’t hold water, though, due to the lower win rate of these teams. The problem for punters, as outlined earlier, is to know whether these teams will be trying hard enough – the evidence suggests that, on the whole, they won’t be.

How, then, can we beat the odds? Well, a little more delving into the statistics puts more flesh on the general assumptions often made about end-of-season matches.

Starting at the top, the late-season records of league champions are very revealing. There’s clear evidence that, once a title has been secured arithmetically, there’s a widespread tendency for champions to take their foot off the gas. Last season, for instance, the Spanish and German champions were confirmed with two games to play – Valencia and Werder Bremen, the respective winners, then promptly lost their last two games.

This is far from an isolated example. In 2001, Manchester United lost their last three games, having run away with the title, though it has to be said that they had finished with four straight wins when in the same position the previous season.

Overall, however, the record of already-crowned champions suggests they’re prone to easing up once the race is won. In the leagues analysed here, the win rate of champions over the course of the season usually exceeds 60%.

Once the title has been secured, however, this dropped to an average of 57% over the past five seasons. And the fall is even more dramatic in games where they face a team with something to play for – their win rate then averages just 45%.

A ton of profit

In general, then, it’s worth opposing already-crowned champions. Last season, in the leagues featured here, this approach would have yielded a 24% profit to level stakes. If you had concentrated only on games where the opposing team still had something to play for, the strike rate in opposing the champions would have been 100% and the profit a whopping 125% to level stakes.

The only caveat is to be wary of any factor that may cause the champions to keep the pressure on – one example is Arsenal last season, when they were Premiership champions with four games to go but were keen to maintain their unbeaten record. They did so, but with only a 50% win rate in their last four games (two wins, two draws).

Another factor might be when a lower-division side is chasing a landmark such as 100 points – that was the case with Wigan Athletic in the old Division Two in 2003, when they reached three figures with two wins and a draw, even though they were already champions.

Knowing that champions ease off once they’ve nothing to play for, it’s easy to assume already-relegated sides must be even more prone to this. Again, the reality is more complicated.

Bottoming out

Overall, in the leagues analysed here, relegated teams have a 23% win rate once they’re mathematically doomed – pretty close to the average expected from relegation-zone teams over the course of the season. In other words, they don’t fall apart once all hope is gone.

In fact, relegated teams actually have a surprisingly good home record in the final weeks of the season. On average, they manage a fairly even split of wins, draws and losses at home and in none of the leagues does their number of home defeats outweigh the combined number of wins and draws – making relegated teams always worth a look on the Asian handicap at home, as they’ll rarely, if ever, be giving up a start to their opponents.

Where they perform very badly is away from home. Even more markedly, they’re usually lambs to the slaughter (home or away) versus teams still with something to play for. Their loss rate in such matches is 70% and, in the past five seasons, no relegated team recorded a single win in this type of fixture in the top leagues in France, England and Germany.

That 70% loss rate is equivalent to the odds on their opponents being around the 2/5 or 4/9 mark. The bookies are stingy about such teams, though you could still have made a profit last season backing against the relegated teams in such matches. With extra selectivity about the odds you’re prepared to take (no less than 1/2, say), the potential exists to make money on these games.

Middle-of-the-table teams is an area to tread warily. While the stats show punters generally can rely on sides scrapping for top places or battling against relegation, this isn’t the case with teams marooned in mid-table for the last few games of the season, with no incentive to move up and no fear of dropping down a few places.

The final word

In the leagues analysed here, the win rate of mid-table teams in their final games doesn’t appear too bad, averaging 33%, which is broadly in line with their overall seasonal record.

The picture isn’t so rosy, however, when the figures are narrowed down to games against teams with something still to play for. The win rate of safe mid-table teams dips to 26% and their loss rate goes up to 49% (from 41% overall).

In the end, end-of-season betting all comes down to the odds available. Pricing up these games is a difficult process, and it’s impossible to come up with hard-and-fast rules about when to bet or what odds to accept. An appreciation of the underlying stats is important, however, because end-of-season games aren’t governed by the normal rules of form and are a law unto themselves in many instances. The one golden rule is: be sure you know your selection will be trying.

Why Americans Should Collectively Practice Safety Measures in Public This Festive Season?

Due to the Covid-19 fuelled pandemic outbreak this year Christmas and New Year may not be quite the same. The best way to celebrate Christmas and NY Eve this year is to make it a homely and private affair, not only in the light of rapidly increasing infection count in the United States but also to avoid rubbing in the inequality in the face of the less fortunate. Calling for lavish decorations or unnecessary splurging is only going to make it cringe worthy, what in the wake of millions dead and dying and the even more left jobless and unemployed.

Everybody must take precautions in the upcoming holiday season, till the vaccine is rolled out. Travel will increase the chances for the spread of COVID-19. The easiest way to protect yourself and others this year is to avoid travel and stay home.

EVERYONE CAN MAKE THE ONCOMING FESTIVE SEASON SAFER

Precautions to take when you go out

• Wear a two or more layered face mask to allow you and others to shield themselves from COVID-19.

• Use the mask and secure it under the chin, on top of your nose and mouth.

• Ensure that the mask snugly fits on your facial sides.

Stay 6 meters away from people who do not live with you

• It is imperative to keep 6 feet from other people (about two arm lengths) when you are at greater risk of being ill.

Clean your hands

• Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds, with soap and water.

• Keep your hand sanitizer with you all the time when you go out

• Use at least 90% alcohol content hand wipes.

ATTENDING A CHRISTMAS PARTY OR MAKING PLANS FOR AN OUTDOOR NY PLAN

The most secure option of this holiday season is to celebrate online or with the people you live with.

Make your celebration safer if you plan to go out. In order to make Christmas and NY Eve better for all, take these additional steps:

  • Carry your food, your beverages, your plates, your cups, and your utensils.
  • Wear a mask and keep your mask clean while you eat and drink.
  • Don’t enter places where food is being cooked.
  • Use packaged food items.

IF YOU ARE HOSTING A CHRISTMAS OR NY EVE GATHERING, IT IS ESSENTIAL TO FOLLOW STRICT SAFETY MEASURES.

If you have visitors here, be sure that people take steps to make Christmas and NY better for everyone. The following steps are:

• Limit number of members coming.

• Sanitize your entire house before and after the party

• If you are hosting it indoors then, make sure you keep the windows and door open for proper air circulation

• Restrict people in areas of food preparation.

• Request your guests to carry their own food

• If you share food, use disposable utensils, such as plastic or paper cups and plates.

To improve air circulation, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), USA recommends opening doors and windows. Other precautions are to sanitize your house, wear multiple layer face masks inside, to wash hands regularly, use garbage bags, not touch one another, to serve food in disposable plates and cups.

CDC suggests that after the festive season is over, go for Covid-19 check to ensure you are safe

The Wire Season Two – Omar Takes The Stand

SPOILER ALERT – We will be discussing specific plot details and happenings from The Wire.

Context – During season 2 of The Wire, Omar agrees to go to court to testify against Bird who allegedly murdered a state witness, Mr. Gant (well technically, he agrees to testify in season 1, but he doesn’t go to court until season 2). He claims that he saw Bird shoot the witness, but he’s actually lying and wants to put Bird in.

Now that you have the context, let me say that this is easily one of my favorite Omar scenes (and that’s saying a lot because Omar has so many amazing scenes). Here are 3 of my favorite quotes from the scene and what I think makes them so amazing:

1) A day at a time – Omar, while being questioned by the prosecuting attorney, is asked the question – “What is your occupation.” First, he says “I rip and run” and then she asks him how he manages to rob drug lords for eight or nine years and live to tell about it, and the classically flipant Omar says “a day at a time I suppose.” Omar Little, for how sophisticated and multi-dimensional of a gay drug dealer robbing gangster he is, is in fact quite a calm & rather simple man (a persona that is definitely unique amongst all the hot heads in the game). This assertion is a virtually perfect illustration of the failure of most individuals to understand this, to understand his life, and to understand why he does what he does for a living.

2) Omar’s code – Omar Little lives his life by a code. He does not have a problem stealing from or shooting anyone in the drug game, but he’s got a strict rule about not laying a hand on citizens. As such, when the defense attorney, Mr. Levy, tries to portray Omar as untrustworthy and suggests that he is precisely the sort of man who would murder someone else in cold blood, Omar responds in a stern tone – “Hey look I ain’t never put my gun on no citizen.” This is actually the very first time we have seen Omar’s values so clearly stated (and in season 5 we will learn more about these values). And though even without his code, Omar Little is an unbelievably engaging character – the code is the thing that solidifies his amicability for the viewers and it is the thing that makes us consistently pull for him.

3) The game – Again, while Maurice Levy is trying to position Omar as untrustworthy, as the filth of the city, as a leech who lives off of the leeches who are in turn “stealing the life blood of our city,” Omar, calmly responds “…Just like you man – I’ve got the shotgun, you got the brief case… it’s all in the game though right.” This is why we love Omar. He demonstrates that he is not simply street smart or wise to how he can steal a couple of packs of drugs. Omar is wise to the big picture. He, seemingly better than any other player in The Wire, genuinely knows how the game should be played, and with that knowledge he gives Maurice Levy a stunning blow which merely causes us to appreciate him more.

If HBO’s The Wire is one of the best shows ever aired on television, then Omar Little is definitely one of, if not the greatest character, on the greatest show on television.

Four Things You Can Do This Winter Season

Most of the people think that winter is not as fun as the summer season. Maybe it’s because you can do few things or activities during the off-season. Unlike the summer season, you can’t do swimming or hiking or beach volleyball when the snow just keeps on falling. Sad, isn’t it? But don’t you know that you can still enjoy the winter season with your family and friends?

To give you an idea on what to do this winter, here are the four things you can do:

  1. Watch good movies
  2. If you are a movie-lover this is definitely a great advantage for you not to get bored this off-season. If you’re not fond of outdoor activities, you can just watch movies at your home. You can set your entertainment room or even your bedroom by placing your television with sofas and comfortable couches in front of it. You can do this with your family during free time so you can spend quality time with them. You can also invite your friends to come over your house and bring different movie DVD’s that you guys can watch together. Cook popcorns and make fruit juices to make movie watching more fun and relaxing. Just make sure to operate you DVD player and plug your television properly to secure the safety in your house.

  3. Host a house party
  4. If you want to have a get together with your good-old friends way back in high school or college, you can host you own house party. You can do this inside your house or at the patio or pool area. If you decided to have it inside the house, make sure to clean your house and keep the valuable things inside your room. If you want to have the party at the pool area, make sure to cover it up with winter pool cover to secure the safety of your guests. Install lights around the pool area to illuminate it properly all throughout the night of the party.

  5. Play in the snow outside
  6. Kids just love to play in the snow. Let your kids enjoy the winter season. Play with them outside. Build a snowman or do snow skiing where you can also bond with your kids. You can also play snow fight with your friends and neighbors. But make sure to wear proper attire to protect your body from the cold weather. If you’re planning to play around the pool area, make sure to have your pool covered to secure the safety of your kids. Installing swimming pool covers prevents pool accidents such as accidental pool submersion.

  7. Learn how to bake cakes and cookies
  8. You can still learn lots of things during the off-season. You can look for cook books in bookstores or in the internet and learn how to bake cakes and cookies. You can ask your mom or your sister for help. This can also be a stepping stone for a cakes and cookies business. Let your friends and neighbors taste your cakes and cookies and once they loved them, they might ask you to bake more for them and have you paid for that. You didn’t just learn, you also earned.

It’s up to you how you want to enjoy the winter season. Explore and look for fun activities that you can do together with your family and friends. But make sure that you do these things safely so you can perfectly enjoy the whole winter season.
