Speak Up Against Physical Abuse

It’s NOT OK

It’s just not OK. This feeling of fear, the shiver, the sweat, the pain and the tears, it’s just not OK. Once again she was beaten up by her husband, this time not just his hands, it has levitated to the broom. The broom made from the leaves of the coconut, the tree we call ‘kalpavruksh’. Has the level of beating gone up or actually has the level of the husband gone down, or still worse the medium to be beaten by.

What wrong did she do? Was it even justified to be treated this way. Why is it always the woman who has to go through this treatment. Why are we never taught to hit back? Why is it that her mother says it’s OK for husbands to beat their wives. Maybe she has been beaten and maybe her mom too. Why does the tradition have to continue. Shouldn’t it stop right where you feel it’s not right? How many more generations will it take for women to realise it’s not OK to be beaten up.

If you are abused raise your voice to speak against it rather than accept it. It’s not OK to take abuse just lying down. It’s not OK to keep quite. Women have to speak for herself and for every women around her to get the courage to open up. Every woman should be ready to support anyone she knows who is going through this physical abuse. Every woman should have to courage to speak about her physical abuse without the fear of being ridiculed or looked down upon. Come on girls, enough is enough. We talk about women empowerment and women freedom but it’s not the lower strata of the society only that’s exploited, it’s also the women around you, maybe your own neighbour your own friend your own aunty or even the maid who works in your house or her daughter or even yourself.

Speak up before it’s too late. Speak up as long as you can. Speak up before you die with your mouth shut and let this tradition of abuse pass on to your daughter. Speak up for this voice is yours. Speak up for the children who need to learn how their mother should be treated. Speak up for the sons who need to learn how to treat their wife n daughter. Speak up because that’s the least we can do. A single voice can bring a revolution. Be the change you want to see.

Traveling Physical Therapy Companies

Traveling nurses and doctors have been practicing for hundreds of years. Traditionally, in more rural districts, there were few medical practitioners and often a single doctor or nurse would provide for an entire region. They may have traveled to the farms or different villages on a regular basis to make sure that the people are well cared for. Today, there are a number of opportunities available for all types of traveling businesses including traveling physical therapy companies. Below is all the information you’ll need to start your traveling physical therapy career:

· Applying for a Job with Traveling Physical Therapy Companies

The first thing that you need to do is apply. Filling out your application on-line is the quickest way to submit your qualifications to traveling physical therapy companies. Some companies even have a skills checklist which is excellent because it allows you to highlight your specific areas of skill and experience, making it easy for a traveling therapist company to match your qualifications with the assignments that they receive.

· Requirements for American Traveling Physical Therapy Companies

There are few differences in the requirements for applying at traveling physical therapy companies even between states. For a physical therapist, a physical therapist assistant, an occupational therapist, a certified occupational therapy assistant, and a speech language pathologist, you must have graduated from an accredited professional healthcare program in either the United States or Canada, have a valid license or certification, and paperwork that shows that you have the appropriate permission to work in America.

· Length of Time to Get an Assignment

Once travel therapy companies have reviewed your application and you are approved to work for them, you could receive an assignment even within a week. Much of this depends on your level of skill and experience. Those with more background and greater experience will of course be able to fulfill more jobs. You can also choose when to start with traveling physical therapy companies and schedule yourself out from four to six weeks.

If this is a seasonal occupation for you, you have the option to schedule yourself even 3 to five months in advance or, if you know that you are going to be complete with an assignment and want to move directly into the next, filling your calendar in advance is a great benefit. Working in the northern states can be a welcome relief in summer, but once the snows start, Hawaii might look very attractive. Certainly do not delay submitting your application just because you are not ready. You may be able to choose a dream job.

· Choosing Assignments with Traveling Physical Therapy Companies

You are under no obligation to choose an assignment once you have applied and are accepted. A recruiter will contact you and show you a portfolio of clients for whom your specific skills and ability are a perfect match. Then, you have the opportunity to interview with the clients; review the facilities, the salary, and all the details of the position.

Why Should You Join Accredited Physical Therapy Schools?

Research has indicated that most of the deaths occurring today especially among young people are as a result of unhealthy lifestyles. People are no longer active in terms of physical exercises. This has in turn led to the emergence of serious medical conditions that continue to take a toll on people’s lives. Experts argue that, unless people adapt to new, healthy lifestyles, this toll is definitely going to rise. The demand for more qualified physical therapists has also hit a top notch. You can actually achieve a lot by becoming a professional physical therapist. But how do you succeed in that? There is only one option; to join one of the best physical therapy schools.

For your information, there are very few accredited schools that offer training in corporeal treatment. This means that you have to be very careful about the kind of institutions you join. Some of these institutions are only interested in making a buck. They careless about the kind of training they offer to their students. To be sure, if you ever join these institutions, then you can count yourself a second class therapist. It is also worthwhile for you to learn about the benefits of joining accredited physical therapy schools so that you can make a well informed decision.

Importance of Recognized Physical Therapy Schools

• Quality training: There are many institutions offering courses in corporeal treatment. However, not all of them are reliable. To be on the safe side, therefore, you should join only the accredited institutions since you will be assured of quality training. Many people fail to join the well established institutions for fear of being overcharged. Though the amount of money you pay for training is a major factor, it should not hinder you from getting quality training that is likely to change your life forever.

• Learn from experts: Like in any other career field, physiotherapy requires special skills as well as enough experience to be able to perform ultimately. You can only achieve this by learning from experienced individuals who have worked in the same field for a considerably long period of time. In most cases, these individuals are only found in well established institutions. Thus, you have to be willing to make some financial sacrifices in order to get the right kind of training. It will pay in the end. The good thing about learning from professionals is that they will be in a position to break everything down professionally for easier comprehension.

Physical Activity Has a Direct Correlation to Overall Wellness,Relaxation, and Mind/Body Connection

Scientific evidence and studies show that the mind and the body are actually ONE SYSTEM. So you ask,” What does the mean exactly?” Our mind and body are not as distinct as first perceived, there is quite a correlation i.e. the relationship of your individual mind to your own unique individual body that houses everything about you! It is seen in science as at the heart of the issue or rationale responding to what is commonly referred to as the philosophy of your unique mind. Unique, because when God made you, he kept the mold and nobody else but you is allowed to utilize your wonderful mind, body and soul!

Even though it is not that simple, or distinctive, there are still varied concerns relating to the nature of one’s particular mind; NOT relative in perception, but directed primarily to the physicality of the body… If you are physically active, on a daily basis, engage nature, and keep your attention on joyful, resourceful information, constantly learning, you will have a healthy mind, body, and increase your possibility for enjoying a more successful life…

Our brain is an organ in our body, unlike other organs of our body, the brain is a unique thinking organ that retains wisdom and expands while interfacing with the universe. Our brain views things, by its own reality, by the reality that we perceive, our actions, inactions and of course, by our attitude sprinkled in the mix… Many a doctor, artist, student, lawyer, author, musician, or entrepreneur has created fantastic or outstanding work, creations or discoveries by following the inclinations by listening to the leading and guidance of their brains way of processing information. If we process and assimilate information in our own best digested method, the sky is the limit of how much we can truly achieve. We are everything that we desire to be when we include our brain’s power to empower our bodies, minds and to grant us endless possibilities for successful living!~

To simplify, decide that you are going to have a great day, place your thinking on intentions that are upwardly mobile, will grant your wish to you. Invite moving thoughts showing self-love, respect and witness as your mind flicks ON the switch to that uplifting exciting energetic, life-giving thinking that you are known to have! Do relaxing things and feel the peace in your thoughts, in your body, and have more balanced living.

Watch as your mind and your body working together in unison. Follow your actions and intentions. It works by being in alignment with your vibration. The mind likes action! It responds by joining and sustaining you to delineate and successfully complete one task after another, done at your discretion, and by your own direction… Where the mind goes, the body follows..

The same can be said for the stimulation of your brain, by your thinking, keep yourself sharp and focused: It improves the neuron receptors that act as connectors, reaching motion and lighting up the brain, pulsating thoughts and neurons get triggered and create events and brings thoughts into action!

Scientifically, it is hypothesized that mental attention and positioned focus improves your brain’s ability with demonstrable and improved functionality. Oftentimes brain cognizance and improvement invites tranquility, serves as a form of escape from self-imposed stress receptors, stress attraction, or other biological receptors that we allow to affect us…

It’s amazing what a walk around a lake can do for your self-esteem! The clean air, the visual effects, all sorts of neurons, receptors and sensors get affected. Your muscles get warm and you feel the blood flow in your thighs and calves. It’s warm and relaxing having the brain stimulated! You can feel the blood flow to your neck and shoulders as they get relaxed, even your arms feel weightless, too!

The human brain, or I like to call the thinking organ is amazing and science is still learning and revealing a lot of information almost daily about the amazing connection between our thoughts and our overall bodily health… We are everything that we were designed to be when we include our brain’s power to work in-concert with our bodies, minds, and to grant us endless possibilities for successful living!

The human brain is so innovative that it can actually re-channel and realign itself– EVEN INTO OLD AGE…

The only one who limits our brain is ourselves… Keeping ourselves mentally and physically active actually helps us love longer; FEEL PHYSICALLY REVIVED, and live longer too… The mind-body connection is indisputable and simply fascinating!

***I enjoy learning from you and from others offering me knowledge continuously!~

The Difference Between Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy

Physical therapy and occupational therapy form an important pillar of complementary medicine that improves functional, muscular and structural stability in individuals; however, it is noteworthy that occupational therapy and physical therapy are entirely different and distinct tools of rehabilitation.

Physical therapy deals with improving the muscular and structural support of the tissues and tendons after an acute or chronic insult. The aim of physical therapy is to restore activity without affecting the normal healing process.

Occupational therapy deals with helping individuals in adapting to their injuries in order to maximize productivity and functional independence. An occupational therapist helps in optimizing the mobility with the help of equipments and devices after an injury that may lead to permanent disability. Occupational therapists also play a preventive role by guiding normal individuals to work with their bodies and not against their bodies that is a leading cause of aggravated wear and tear tissue damage and injuries.

Physical therapists utilize their vast knowledge of the human musculoskeletal system, anatomy and physiological functioning of muscles, joints and ligaments in order to restore mobility and full range of joint activity. At the same time, physical therapy exercises and maneuvers also decrease the risk of joint destruction and muscle injuries.

Occupational therapists help in enhancing coping skills in individuals after injuries. Occupational therapists work with family, relatives, friends and colleagues in order to make the transition less painful and more helpful for the recovering patient.

Physical therapist works soon after the injury in the initial recovery course after primary injury while the services of occupational therapists are generally needed in the rehabilitation course when the patient has fully recovered from the initial injury.

Provision of physical therapy may improve the situation and mobility of individuals. Physical therapists perform interventive therapies like massage, acupuncture, exercises and manual therapies to improve the functioning of the body.

Occupational therapy is performed when the patient has fully recovered and the sole purpose is to improve the quality of life by not letting the disability to affect the life of individuals. Occupational therapists modify the surroundings and the lifestyle mainly; instead of devising any treatment modalities.

Physical therapists mainly work with sports teams and athletes (since athletes are most vulnerable to musculoskeletal injuries and require the assistance of physical therapists most). In addition, physical therapists also work with surgical units, burn centers, nursing homes and trauma centers in order to attend to patients who are suffering from moderate to severe injuries involving joints (limb joints or spinal joints).

Occupational therapists are usually employed in rehabilitation centers to manage the patients who have suffered permanent damage and disabilities. Occupational therapists train patients to use special devices and equipment like hearing aids, walking aids, visual aids and other equipment that decrease the dependence on caregivers; thereby reduces economic and psychological dependence. Almost 48% of all occupational therapists work in the offices of speech and physical therapists (Bureau of Labor Statistics).

Physical therapists are mainly involved in the management of musculoskeletal stability while occupational therapists generally cover all aspects of a person’s life including social (by improving physical independence), psychological (by counseling), economic (by decreasing the caregiver dependence) and professional (by modification of work-environment or skill-set training).

Physical therapists require a Bachelors or Masters in Physical therapy followed by training in a physical therapy setting. Similarly in order to become an occupational therapist, individuals require a Bachelors or Masters in Occupational therapy; however no training or experience is generally needed in order to start the practice (according to the reports of Bureau of Labor Statistics).

At an average, there are almost twice as much job openings for physical therapists than occupational therapists (198,600 job openings in 2010 for physical therapists as compared to 108,800 job openings for occupational therapists).

To sum up, occupational therapy and physical therapy both constitute important tools of rehabilitation and recovery after moderate physical, musculoskeletal, vascular or neurological injuries. Although the primary functioning and aims of the therapies overlap significantly, it can be safely stated that in certain cases, individuals need both physical therapy and occupational therapy to obtain maximal benefits.

Physical Signs of Attraction – How to Tell If He Also Likes You

Have you ever felt a tingling sensation every time you see this guy? Do you feel that he always looks in your direction each time you pass by? Does your heart beat skip faster whenever you see him? Did it ever cross your mind to get to know him better? If all your answer is yes, then you may be physically attracted to this man. There are many physical signs of attraction you need to be aware of.

These are just some manifestations of the physical signs of attraction, the look, the tingling sensation all means the same thing. There’s chemistry in the air during the exchange of glances and you can feel the instant attraction. There are people who can’t seem to hide how they feel, yet there are some who knows how to hide their feelings of attraction, unless you look deeper. Here are some physical signs of attraction to avoid being clueless when a guy is attracted to you;

1. Feet and legs – when a guy fiddles, crosses and uncrosses his legs and his feet and legs are pointing towards you while talking indicates that he is attracted to you.

2. Eyes- when feeling an intense emotion, the eyes excretes tears but not to the point where they will fall. The eyes will only look shiny because of the liquid excretion, and this is one indication of physical attraction. So when a guy talks to you and his eyes are glowing and shiny, this means that he is attracted to you.

3. Fidgeting and touching – fiddling with the hair, touching the clothes, stroking the cheeks, rubbing the skin, touching the ear, massaging the neck and playing with objects and jewelry are all physical signs of attraction. The skin on the mouth and upper lips becomes very sensitive when there’s physical attraction.

4. Clothing – when a guy feels attraction, he feels hot and so needs to adjust his clothing to alleviate the warm feeling he gets upon seeing his object of attraction. Adjusting the tie, opening several buttons on the shirt and rolling the sleeves of the shirts when talking to you are physical signs of attraction.

5. Trying to attract your attention- when a guy feels attraction he will make means to get your attention. He will become loud and funny so he will be noticed. Another way is distancing himself from the crowd and be alone, making him look brooding and mysterious.

6. Stand with hands on the hips – when a guy is attracted to a girl, he will stand with hands on the hips while talking to her. This will emphasize his body size and shows his confidence. This also shows that he wants the girl to notice his best assets, that’s why the hands is on the hips, maybe he believe his assets are in that area.

Those are just some of the common physical signs of attraction. Some people might find it hard to conceal them, while others might still have doubts if the guy is really attracted to her. So whenever you see those kinds of signals from a man, then you can be sure he is indeed attracted to you.

Physical Therapy – A Good Career Choice

Physical therapy jobs can be very rewarding. Physical therapists (PTs) help people who have some type of debilitating disease or injury be able to regain their body’s strength, function, and mobility. Some of the conditions that PTs help people recover from are arthritis, lower back pain, broken bones, head injuries, sports-related injuries, and cerebral palsy.

The job description for a physical therapist is quite extensive. Their duties are vital to many areas of medicine and are usually carried out in a hospital, orthopedic treatment center, or rehabilitation clinic. In order to provide the patient the physical therapy benefits that will help them recover from their illness or improve function, the PT must do an evaluation of the patient’s physical condition and then come up with a physical rehabilitation plan customized specifically to that patient’s needs. This plan must improve the patient’s strength, range of motion, flexibility, and motor control as well as decrease any pain and swelling that exists. Other aspects of a physical therapist’s duties include:

· Using therapeutic equipment like ultrasonic machines, whirlpool baths, and ultraviolet and infrared lamps

· Teaching the patients to use exercise equipment

· Instructing patients and their families in the use and care of equipment like wheelchairs, braces, crutches, canes, and prosthetic limbs

Physical therapy jobs require graduation from an accredited education program in physical therapy with a master’s or doctoral degree. To get into one of these programs the applicant must have a graduate degree that includes a number of prerequisite courses. In order to practice as a PT, graduates must take and pass both state and national licensing examinations. Some states require that PTs take further continuing education courses in order to keep their licenses.

Because there is such a wide range of conditions that physical therapists treat, the job outlook is always excellent. In fact, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, physical therapy jobs are expected to grow faster through the year 2018 than any other occupation that requires at least a graduate level degree.

Physical therapy jobs paid an average salary of $72,790 in 2008. The typical PT employed full-time can expect an annual salary between $55,000 and $80,000. There are considerations that factor in to determining salary. These considerations include things like the state or city in which the job is located, level of training and education, amount of experience, and if the PT has any certifications and specializations.

Self Defense and Martial Arts – Physical Health and the Dominant Response For Martial Arts

Physical health can affect the dominant response. The dominant response is the human body’s non-conscious reflex response to life-threatening situations. Life threatening situations place the body under a tremendous amount of stress. What could be more stressful than fighting for your life? Or fighting for the life of a family member, a friend or your property?

The human body experiences many physiological reactions when under stress. Blurred or tunnel vision, increased sweating, slurred speech, and slowed thought processing are a few stress-induced reactions. Martial arts and self-defense training teaches the mind and body the discipline needed to deal with some of these reactions.

Additionally, those individuals who are in excellent physical condition are not immune from stress-induced reactions. Their ability to maintain and control them, however, will be greater than that of individuals who are in poor to moderate physical condition. Physical conditioning also allows one to recognize their physical and mental limitations. If one is not aware of their physical and mental limitations, the outcome in a self-defense encounter could be devastating, or even fatal. Martial arts training requires one to attain a higher level of physical conditioning.

Physical and mental conditioning also helps establish self-confidence. Those who exercise on a regular basis and maintain a high level of physical condition feel good about themselves. They like the way they look and feel. They have a sense and swagger of confidence about them when they move and even speak.

Members of elite military units, like Navy SEALs and The Army Special Forces display high levels of self-confidence. This is in part due to their high levels of conditioning. Without these high levels of conditioning, their lives could be in serious jeopardy in the event of a combat situation. Martial arts and self-defense practitioners should strive to keep themselves in top physical condition as well.

The Positive Physical and Psychological Effects of Body Massage

Any massage, be it sports therapy or an ayurvedic spa, effects four systems of a body. Namely,

  1. Physical

  2. Physiological

  3. Neurological

  4. Psychological

All four are connected. The skilled movement of the hands of a masseuse creates the first effect, i.e., physical which in turn triggers the other three. With every stroke, rub, squeeze or compression of the skin the muscles lying below have neurological, functional or psychological change.

The response of the body to a massage therapy depends on the type of motion, i.e., the technique and the time for which it is done. The depth, speed, frequency and the part of the body that is massaged factor in deciding the extent of the benefits, also. First, let’s take a look at the physical reactions to a massage.

What are the physical benefits of a body massage therapy?

The muscles in a body have a lot of flexibility. They can extend and contract to a significant degree. It is the connecting tissue that lies around them that limits the movement. One way to increase the extensibility of connective tissue is through massages. Continuous kneading or wringing can loosen (plus stretch) the tissues that are present near muscles. Additionally, rigorous movements increase blood circulation to the area and heat it which makes the tissue pliable.

When performed regularly, massage can cause:

  • Lengthening of muscle fibres

  • Changes in connective tissue

  • Improve flexibility

These physical changes in the body lead to the following advantages:

  • The range of motion in the joints of a body increase because the muscles are relaxed.
  • Swelling that has happened due to leaking of blood or other fluids from vessels and capillaries can be reduced. The massage stimulates the flow of lymph plus increases the temperature of the soft tissue which causes the reabsorption of the leaked fluid and hence decreases in swelling.
  • Any muscle that is holding tension can be relieved by stroking action of a massage. The motion stimulates the receptors present on nerve ending which can then either result in muscle relaxation or tightening. The effect is reflexive meaning it happens automatically in the muscles because of the massage.

What are the psychological reactions of a massage?

Before diving into the psychological advantages of massage, one thing should be made clear. The biological or physiological outcomes are deeply related with the mental effects of therapy. When the muscles relax, a more peaceful state of the brain is automatically achieved. The vice versa also applies. When the psychological feedback says to let go of the tension in the mind, the muscles in the body relax too.

Some of the psychological compensations that can be achieved through massage are:

  • Pain relief: A massage reduces muscle tension which decreases the pressure on nerve ending which leads to lowered pain. As some of the pain lessens, the perception of it is also altered which further reduces it. The cycle keeps repeating. Therefore, sports therapy is continuously used to manage injuries in athletes and speed up rehabilitation.
  • Anxiety: Physical relaxation of the body and relief from pain consequently leach away the anxiety a body holds.

What are the biological results of spa therapy?

The effects of a Thai massage are not limited to the brain and the physical body. The biological functions within also see positive outcomes. When massages are done with pressure and in-depth, they compress and release blood vessels which increases blood circulation. Even the lymph flow to the heart can be heightened by giving prolonged massages to specific areas of the body. Two techniques by which lymph can be stimulated to flow to body extremities are kneading and deep stroking.

When the blood flow increases in the body, the oxygen available to soft tissues also rises along with the accessibility of nutrients. When lymph flow increases, the body’s capability to remove waste products from the lymphatic system also grows. The flow of blood and lymph is achieved by stimulating the nerves. This results in dilation of blood vessels that leads to more blood circulation, higher temperature, increase in elasticity of muscles, better delivery of oxygen and nutrients.

The last benefit of massage is neurological. By certain motions, a massage therapist can induce reflex actions in the body. These actions have a sedative effect. One such move is rubbing a painful area. The movement stimulated the nerve endings in the location which send the signal to stop the feeling of pain. This happens by blocking the transmission of signals to the spinal cord. In simple terms, a massage decreases pain in the body by affecting the nervous system.

A Succinct Summation

The gist is that massage of diverse kinds can be utilised to reduce pain, take away anxiety, stimulate blood and oxygen flow. It can also be employed to reduce swelling and increase the range of motion. An excellent body therapy can either take you to a relaxed state or make it more active. What the effect of a massage should be is decided by the physical and mental needs of the person.

How to Enter the Physical Therapist Job Market

Physical therapists are commonly employed in orthopedic settings working with sports or orthopedic conditions, in schools working with the physically challenged student, in nursing homes working with the deconditioned geriatric population, in rehabilitation centers, or in the private home health setting.

As a new grad out of school, the best place to start looking for a physical therapy position would be a teaching institution or clinic with several therapists already on staff. The reason for this is that it would allow the new graduate to grow and develop skills, share their own, fresh academic knowledge, and develop their confidence level while being around a more experienced staff. This can most easily be done through internship relationships formed during their academic years.

Other common places to start to get their foot in the door are healthcare staffing agencies which commonly place the therapist in a variety of settings. This can be good if the therapist is looking for a variety of experiences to obtain before settling down in one environment. Often, therapists who go this route develop a variety of skills and enjoy the challenge of new settings.

Healthcare staffing agencies generally must comply with several government regulations before placing any therapists in an institution. This mandates that the candidate must complete training regarding OSHA regulations concerning fire, equipment safety, handling chemicals and possible spills, HIPAA guidelines, and standards of care across the continuum of life and culture before being sent out on an assignment. Agencies must now also comply with regulations concerning the health of the potential therapy candidates, and must obtain vaccination and TB test records from their applicant. Most staffing agencies and even some employers require completion of a pre-employment physical and drug screen before the applicant begins their assignment.

Healthcare recruiting is also a big business in this country. Healthcare recruiters commonly receive lists of healthcare needs throughout the country and then search the web for those who have posted their resumes in order to match a client with a physical therapist searching for a job. This is not always convenient for the candidate, however, because they are often bombarded by mail from recruiters who post physical therapist job openings throughout the country or, if they do happen to find an opening in the state where the candidate resides, it is often several hours away from their home.

Other common ways to obtain employment is through word of mouth or through networking amongst other physical therapists. Once employed, physical therapists can enjoy a satisfying career that entails interaction with others, analysis of biomechanical or posture problems, and the application of their years of rigorous academic training to resolve their patients’ restrictions, hopefully restoring function and independence to those they serve. Continued success in the field is ensured through patient satisfaction and attainment of the aforementioned goals.
