Aluminum Borg Warner Shifter Nuts – Why Are They Better Than Nylon Ones?

Borg Warner Aluminum Shifter Nuts are increasingly being used these days in 4-speed manual gear boxes, which are found in Ford and Valient model cars. These are a huge problem solver for a persistent problem being faced for long with nylon shifter nuts. These are a well-trusted component used in the Ford Borg Warner manual 4-speed box. These are most often used in race cars, speedway cars, hot rods, or for street use in every day road cars.

Shifter nuts are normally made of nylon. These are not very strong, and the soft nylon material causes stripping of the thread, which causes the gear stick to dislodge from the gear box. This is a common problem faced by race cars when doing quick and hard gear changes and also by normal cars. This problem can be taken care of by using a Borg Warner nut made of aluminum. Aluminum in these nuts provides strength and hence does not wear off easily.

The major advantages of aluminum shifter nuts are

  • Easy to replace and install; self-installation can be easily done as is explained below
  • Take care of the problem of fragility due to nylon shifter nut
  • More reliable and strong

Aluminum nuts are suitable for many Ford Falcon models including XY XA XB XC XD XE XF and some Valient models in the Borg Warner Single Rail Manual Transmission. They have a M40 x 1.5 thread, which is the same as the original OEM factory style and use a 41-mm spanner across the flats.

These are extremely easy to install and the installation can be done by you with these simple instructions. Unscrew the old nylon nut from the gear box with the gear stick attached. Unclip the E clip, remove the spring, and slide off the retainer plate. The old nylon nut can now be slid off. Before doing this, ensure that the bush is in an undamaged condition. Slide the new aluminum shifter nut over the gear stick and over the bush after greasing the bush. Add the retaining spring plate. Add the spring and reinsert the E clip. Finally, place the gear shift back into the gear box and tighten the alloy nut. You have installed your hardy aluminum shifter nut.

These have been tested and proven to perform well for both normal daily usage and for race cars. Try aluminum shifter nuts as a great accessory for your car.

Replacing Linkage Pins and Bushes on Mini Excavator – Part One

Doing the necessary checks

It is critical to replace the linkage pins and bushes before they wear out. If you do not do this the structure of the mini excavator will also wear down and this is a much more costly problem to fix, in comparison to the cost of the pins and bushes which are relatively cheap to replace. It would be unhealthy for your business to let your excavator machine wear down when this can be avoided by making small repairs.

When you are doing this maintenance to your mini excavator, you first of all need to identify the parts that need replacing. To do this, you need to check all the joints to see if there are any excess play and movement in them. There should not be any movement side-to-side, and the pins should not rattle in the joint. When you have done these checks you should now have a list of the pins and bushes that you require. Look for a reputable supplier for these parts.

It is important that you make sure that the parts you have purchased are properly hardened, this means that both the pins and bushes have been heat treated in order to make them hard wearing so that they last longer. Pins and bushes are subjected to a lot of strain so you do not want these parts breaking early or wearing too fast. You will find that some suppliers will offer you un-hardened pins which are often slightly cheaper than hardened ones. However, you should avoid purchasing these parts because they will wear very fast and cause problems later on.

Replacing the pins

Once you have all the parts that you require, you need to start replacing them.

  1. Before you fit the new pins and bushes you need to remove the existing ones that need replacing.
  2. The pins should simply un-bolt and pull out. Be aware however that when you are taking out the pins which hold the excavator arm into place, you may need somebody to help you secure it. Perhaps you may even need a forklift, overhead crane or another excavator to support the arm as you take it apart.

Removing the bushes and replacing them is more difficult than the pins. For our guide on how to do this read our ‘Replacing Linkage Pins and Bushes on Mini Excavators- Part Two’ article. This will support you when replacing them tricky bushes.

Kenya Walking Safaris – Walking in Tumaren Laikipia Kenya

Trailing and treks in the wilds of the African bush, Africa walking safari, trekking safaris or hiking safaris, whatever the name is a unique form of enjoying nature at a close encounter. Wildlife, vegetation and people.

Walking safaris like biking safaris ensure a thrilling up close and personal experience of the bush. The walks and trails or hikes should be lead by an experienced trail guide who should also have the basic guiding skill i.e. should be a qualified tour leader/guide. Experience and knowledge of trained bush leaders is a prerequisite for the success of this kind of alternative wild adventure. This type of an adventure is a unique opportunity to enjoy the original safari outfit of the fore explorers.

Kenya walking safaris are very rich in cultural experience since they are lead by the local guides and they are also full of memories of nature. You walk and trek in the most remote pristine and exquisite locations. But how do you choose the best walking safari? When you shop around you will see that almost all the tour operators are offering a walk in Loita hill. This is an area very rich in wildlife and culture and it borders Masai Mara National reserve. But is this the only area offering the best view or experience?

Let go north and see a different area that one can have as walking safari destination. Here I will not talk of Mount Kenya since that park is unique because it the only park where walking and trekking is done throughout the year. I will be talking about a Walking/trekking safari in Tumaren in Samburu

Tumaren is a stunning 3000 acre property dedicated exclusively to the management and conservation of wildlife. With 360 degree sweeping views of Mount Kenya to the South and the vast Frontier District to the North, Tumaren is a window onto the romantic wilds of northern Kenya. Neighboring a series of other large conservation areas Tumaren is also blessed with healthy numbers of game and predators. Kenya. An evening walk on the ranch typically will turn up Gerenuk, Impala, Steinbuck, Common Zebra, Grevy’s Zebra, Elephant, Grant’s gazelle and Dikdik. Several days spent in the area will likely find the more shy or less common species such as Lesser Kudu, Eland, Hyena, Bat-eared Fox, Reticulated Giraffe or the endangered Lelwel’s Hartebeest. The lucky visitor may see the local Lions, Leopards, Cheetahs, Aardwolves or Wild dogs and night drives turn up Aardvarks, Zorillas, Caracals, Wildcats or White-tailed Mongooses. At Tumaren visitors can enjoy the property as a starting point for a camel safari or as a base camp to explore from. Game drives, mountain biking and walking are all included options for guests at Tumaren.

A typical walking safari will look like

Day one visitors are welcomed at the airstrip from Nairobi or Nanyuki with a cool drink.

A beautiful outcrop of stone overshadows the camp and you will have seen the feature from miles as you approached in the vehicle. The local Laikipia Masai calls these rocks Nayusere and stone chippings suggest that they have been used as a camp for millennia.

We too will use the rocks starting with a refreshing lunch and short rest in our classic roomy safari tents. After lunch they head out on a short walk looking for game and getting a feel for the country. As the sun begins to set you will find ourselves at the crest of Nayusere and there a blanket with drinks and biting. As we enjoy our sundowners we will continue to spot game from our vantage and watch as the baboons come back to roost on the face of the rock. A short descent will find us back in camp for a delicious hardy dinner.

Day two would be heading out early after breakfast so to see as much game as possible on our walk north towards Camp. Along our walk we will walk across large plains as well as mixed bush. Herds of Zebra, Oryx and Grant’s gazelle predominate on the large plains with smaller numbers of Jackson’s Hartebeest and Thompson’s Gazelle. In the mixed bush we find Dikdik, Gerenuk, Impala and Lesser Kudu if we are lucky enough to see them. We will be at a camp around lunch time. After lunch we will, resting, and later another walk in the evening to a pretty spot for sundowners.

The third day is a busy day heading down toward the Ewaso Nyiro River, which runs along the eastern edge of the Laikipia Plateau and then turns eastward toward Samburu National Reserve. Along the way we will be looking for Eland, Steinbuck, Giraffe, Waterbuck, Grevy’s Zebra as well as all the tough-to-see predators such as Wild Dog, Hyena, Lion, Leopard or Cheetah. You will also be looking from high open points for Elephants as we as the shy Buffalo that hide by day in thick bush. For safety reasons you will have armed rangers blind walks through thick bush country where we can’t know what is around the next corner are discouraged. On arrival at the Ewaso Nyiro you may want to take a quick swim before lunch. After lunch, our rest and sundowners on a high rocky hillside.

The last day involves a farewell party to your clue, the local guide cooks and other members to be left behind. You then take a flight to Nairobi or have a drive to your next adventure destination in Kenya.

After this king of walking safari you can truly say that you have had a walking safari in Africa and more so Kenya.

Benefits of this tour are:

Though highly priced it helps the local people directly since they are the guides, cooks and are involved in planning and execution of the program.

Minimal ecological disturbance since people use camels instead of vehicles for the transport of camping material and food

The money paid to conservancies are used for conservation of the very ranch you undertake the walk.

Time saving since you use airspace more than driving.

You learn more about the people’s culture since you are with them compared to the custom safaris where you are confined to safari vans and lodges.

Have Hindu and Slavic Religions One Root?

And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. Exodus, 3:2

Sanskrit, the language used long ago by religious scribes and wise men, nowadays conveying ancient messages to us from holy texts, is presently only a liturgical language like Latin. The Indian Vedas were written in Sanskrit. In addition to liturgical purposes, this language is spoken at some places even today, particularly in some institutions where people feel the need to reinvigorate it. In the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, there are villages where ordinary people speak Sanskrit. Sanskrit is used also in Mattur, a village in the Indian state of Karnataka.

Sanskrit and other languages

Throughout their long but preserved history, the Hindu gods have taken other form than the one they had originally had in the Vedas. At some historical times, Surya was more important than Vishnu. Shiva, too, does not have his name (Shiva) in the Vedas. Scholars believe that a much older name represents him instead – Rudra, which sounds like the word used for the most ancient Slavic god – Rod, who was the primordial god – creator of the universe.

The origin of the word “red” (English), or “rot” (German) probably comes from the primordial adoration of the god of fire, most likely a deity like Slavic Rod, Hindu Agni or Rudra. You will find many words with similar sounding both in European languages and Sanskrit – for example, the Sanskrit word “rakta” – English “red” (“rudy” in Czech, “rouge” in French, “rojo” in Spanish, etc.). The origin of the word “red” most probably dwells in fire, which had been adored and personified by all ancient and tribal cultures.

Every religion, although surely partially based on real events, somehow deforms or changes over time. Slavic people have a legend about the creation of the world:

In the beginning, there was only the great darkness and endless chaos. Its waves whirled in the empty space and flowed around the golden egg, which was in the middle. Rod – the originator of everything – was in the egg. When Rod uttered his first word, his son Svarog was born.

The Slavic creation legends slightly vary in dependence on the region (Serbia, Slovenia, Russia, Poland, etc.). Swarog or Svarog is the Slavic sun and fire god. In the Slavic religion, Svarga is heaven. In Sanskrit, Svarga is heaven too.

Some Hindu gods have remarkable similarity with Slavic deities – both in pronunciation and in significance. Sanskrit and Slavic words may not be always entirely similar (in pronunciation and connotation), but may carry remarkable elements of similarities like in the case of the Slavic god Veles (god of shepherds and a great serpent), who bears a resemblance to Vedic Vala, a Hindu Naga (serpent) and Asura (mostly sinful and power-seeking deities) mentioned in Rig Veda over twenty times.

Lord Shiva’s attributes are materialized in a Slavic female deity called Siwa, Ziva, or Zivena – goddess of fertility and love. A similarity with Sanskrit appears in the fact that the word “ZIVA” means (in Sanskrit) “the one who is kind”. Unlike war or scorpion goddesses, goddesses of love are kind for most of the time.

There is yet another similarity between Shiva and Ziva – goddess Kali and Morena, the sister of Ziva. Both Kali (Hindu goddess) and Morena (Slavic goddess) are goddesses of death. In Hinduism, Kali is tightly associated with Shiva, as she is a form of Durga, the Shiva’s consort. There is not a big difference between these two, as Shiva’s association to Kali is as strong as Ziva’s connection to Morena. If we look at similarity in pronunciation, Slavic Morena has its equivalent in the Sanskrit word maraNaanta (coming to death).

As concerns symbolism, lingam is a Hindu (Shiva’s) symbol for fertility – the same dimension that ancient Slavs attributed to Ziva.

Vedic god Surya has his Slavic equivalent in goddess of beauty – Zora, Zarya, or Zori. There is also the word Zorya, which identifies less important goddesses – Slavic guardians of the dawn, but connection to the sun is indisputable.

Summary of Slavic gods

Rod (Creator) > Svarog (sun god and helper creator) > and his three sons > Svarozic, Dazhdbog, Perun.

Triglav is a Slavic word for god “with three heads”, almost identical to Hindu Trinity (Trimurti). The oldest meaning of the word Triglav characterized the following three deities – Svarog, Perun, and Dazhdbog; however, Veles or Svantovit later replaced Dazhdbog. Triglav has its Hindu equivalent in Brahma (almost always pictured with three heads), or Dattatreya – Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva in one – an incarnation of the divine Trinity (Trimurti). Hindus believe that this form of God had once appeared here on earth.

Slavonic svastika

Hindus use svastika as a symbol of good luck. Boreyko coat of arms is the symbol of svastika pointing to the left; it had been used in Poland. Svastika can also be found in symbolism of Svarog.

Sanskrit and Russian – comparison

Slavic languages are similar, so the comparison shown below is made of words that sound equally and mean the same thing in Russian, Czech and Slovak. If you want to find out more about Sanskrit words, visit this website – http://spokensanskrit.de/

The first words on the left are in Russian, then follow words in Sanskrit and finally you may learn what they mean in English:

kogda kada when

nebo naaka heaven

snežnij sahima snowy

mama maatR mom

brat bhraatR brother

vsegda sadaA always

putnik pathika pilgrim (or traveler)

zit jiivati live (“jiivati” is pronounced similarly in Russian)

We can also look at similarities in grammar. Slovaks and Russians use vocative, which is a term hardly explainable in English in one word, as English (and many other European languages) does not use it (Sanskrit does). Vocative is scarcely present in Slovak, but it still occurs. The Wordnet dictionary of synonyms describes the term “vocative” as “the case (in some inflected languages) used when the referent of the noun is being addressed”. In addition, English and possibly many other European languages, except for Russian and other Slavic languages, do not have, for example, other cases like the locative case.

The Hebrew word for fire is Esh – the English word “ash” is derived from it.

Learn How to Make a Guy Fall in Love With You With These 8 Tips!

How can you make a guy fall in love with you?

Many women wish they knew the answer to this question. While you can’t force anybody to do anything, there are still some things you can do to increase your chances with a man.You can still try a few strategies in your quest to make ANY MAN fall in love with you!

The most important thing you can do is to optimize both your appearance and your personality. You need to bring out your positive attributes and improve your negative ones. With that said, here are a few ways to get the guy you want to fall in love with you:

1. Always maintain a positive attitude around him. Always smile and joke around. Men will naturally want to be in your presence if you’re fun to be around. One of the best ways to make guys fall for you is to make them happy. You won’t be able to accomplish this if you’re not happy and smiling yourself!

2. Sometimes getting a makeover will win guys over. No, you don’t have to be a supermodel to attract men, but a makeover will instill more confidence in you, and the more confidence you have, the more attractive you’ll become. You don’t have to be rich to dress nicely. You can go out and buy a cute outfit or two that emphasize your best features.

3. Don’t be afraid to flirt a little bit. Simple flirtation can make any guy like you. Even if you’re shy, you can still try some flirting here and there. Guys love to receive attention. You can laugh at everything he says, even if it’s not funny. Always keep your eyes on his, and blink your eyelashes on occasion. Last but not least, don’t be afraid to compliment him! Giving him credit where credit is due is one of the best ways to make a guy fall in love with you.

4. Playing hard to get usually works when trying to get a guy to notice you. If you want to know how to make any man fall in love, don’t make it so obvious that you want him. If you call him all the time and send him message after message, he’ll start to get annoyed. Flirting some is fine, but going overboard at trying to get his attention isn’t.

5. If you really want to know how to make a guy fall in love with you, show your support for the things in which he has an interest. Even if you’re not interested yourself, asking him questions about it will really get his attention. You don’t want to force yourself to be somebody you’re not, but it doesn’t hurt to show SOME interest in his favorite sport or activity.

6. Always keep eye contact with him. Looking deeply into someone’s eyes really enhances your connection with them. It also helps to increase sexual tension. Looking into his eyes coyly is one of the best ways to get any guy you want to like you.

7. Try to make yourself stand out. If you want to know how to make your man love you, be unique. Avoid talking about the things that other girls talk about. Ask the man you’re interested in about how he feels about current events, politics, traveling, etc. Letting him know how intelligent and worldly you are will attract the guy you want.

8. Don’t be catty. Let him see how sweet you can be. If you want to know how to make your dream guy love you, you need to be as friendly and polite as possible. Don’t talk trash about anyone even if they deserve. Negative behavior really doesn’t attract guys. Men are drawn to girls who don’t gossip and complain.

Follow these tips if you want to make a guy fall in love with you! The most important thing you should do is BE PATIENT! Don’t show signs of desperation, as this will only turn a guy off. You can’t force a guy to have feelings for you, but you can still increase your chances with him! Follow these tips, be patient, and he will eventually be yours!

Commercial Loan Retainer Fees

Retainer fees are “standard business practice” for some (but not all) commercial loan situations. It is understandable that a commercial borrower would rather not pay such a fee, so it is important for a commercial borrower to understand when it is more likely to be necessary. In fact a business loan retainer will not be necessary in many business loan scenarios. This is especially true of commercial financing such as business cash advances that takes less time and produces funding within just a few days.

For more time-consuming commercial loan processes, it is increasingly common for a retainer fee to be paid during the preliminary stages. This is especially true when working with business loan consultants that specialize in commercial loans. Most advisors who work with residential mortgage loans (and perform commercial loans as a sideline to their main business activities) will not charge a retainer fee because in many/most instances they are legally prevented from doing so by certain state and federal regulations (in other words, it is likely that they too would charge a retainer fee if not legally prohibited from doing so because of prevailing residential loan compliance issues).

So why wouldn’t a commercial borrower who doesn’t want to pay a retainer fee simply work with someone who doesn’t charge a retainer fee? Many commercial loan situations are too difficult for the average residential loan advisor to handle successfully. Similar to a person seeking a more expensive medical or legal specialist to help them when confronted by a serious medical or legal problem, most commercial borrowers have come to realize that business loan problems are frequently just as serious and complex and deserving of a commercial loan specialist.

It is in these situations when a commercial borrower is working with a business loan specialist that a retainer fee should be viewed as “standard business practice” for more difficult and time-consuming commercial loans. I have stated elsewhere that one of the most important lessons to be learned from a thorough analysis of commercial financing “trade-offs” is that the lowest rate is almost never associated with the best deal for the commercial borrower. A similar observation based on over 25 years of business loan experience: the lowest fees are also rarely associated with the best deal for the commercial borrower.

The fees charged by commercial loan specialists (including retainer fees when appropriate) are almost always higher than loan advisors who do not specialize in business loans. In the end, most of these borrowers still choose to deal with a highly-qualified commercial loan specialist because they ultimately realize that perhaps it is better to use the “best” business loan advisor rather than the “cheapest” business loan advisor.

The most typical range for commercial loan retainer fees is $2500 to $10,000 (obviously a wide range). There are various reasons for a retainer fee and here are three of them: (1) to compensate the advisor for some of the initial loan processing; (2) to serve as a “good faith” deposit toward the overall commercial financing fees; and (3) to focus the borrower on working with one business loan advisor. The third reason might be the most important of all. With difficult commercial loans, it is extremely counterproductive for a commercial borrower to be working with multiple business loan advisors (regarding the same loan). Once a retainer fee has been paid, a commercial borrower is likely to be more comfortable in working solely with the business loan advisor who received the retainer fee, and with difficult commercial loans, this unified approach is likely to be more successful. It is this success that ultimately justifies the retainer fee.

Five Deadly Dangers of Dialysis

One of the life saving miracles of modern medicine is machinery that cleans the blood of impurities. In medicine, dialysis is primarily used to provide an artificial replacement for lost kidney function due to kidney failure.

Dialysis may be used for patients who have either temporarily, or permanently lost their kidney function.

While life-saving, dialysis can also pose risks of injury and death to some users.

FIRST USE SYNDROME

Unfortunately, some bodies don’t react well to the use of an artificial kidney (dialysis machine).

“First Use Syndrome” is a rare but severe anaphylactic reaction to the artificial kidney. Its symptoms include sneezing, wheezing, shortness of breath, back pain, chest pain, or sudden death.

If you find yourself experiencing any of these symptoms after your first treatment tell the dialysis tech or call your doctor immediately as First Use Syndrome can cause sudden death. For more information on this syndrome see the Wikipedia article on Hemodialysis.

BLEEDING

According to Dr. David Fowler, chief medical examiner of the state of Maryland, nearly two dozen kidney dialysis patients in Maryland bled to death during the period 2000-2007. The majority of the 22 deaths happened while patients were at home alone and started bleeding, reported Fowler.

An alert from the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Office of Health Care Quality explains why this occurs. “For patients with kidney failure, mechanically cleansing the blood outside the body three times a week is the only way the can stay alive. However, the long-term access site needed to draw and return blood to the body can weaken and fail.”

MRI

An MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) is a picture taking device similar to an x-ray. MRIs can see things that can’t be seen with ordinary x-rays.

Sometimes even an ordinary MRI is not enough and a special process is required to make abnormalities visible. A liquid, known as a “contrast agent” is injected into the blood stream. This creates contrast on the MRI picture which makes visible certain abnormalities.

The contrast agent is then filtered out of the body through the kidneys. However, for dialysis patients and others with kidney failure the kidneys don’t remove the contrast agent fast enough and the toxic contrast agent can poison the body.

Gadolinium is a rare metal which is used in some contrast agents. Recently, doctors have discovered that it has a rare and painful side effect known as Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis.

Initial symptoms of the disease include high blood pressure, muscle weakness and thick hardened skin. With time victims may suffer pain, burning and itching in affected areas. With more time, victims may experience stiffness in skin and joints which completely immobilizes them. Some suffer death.

For more info on NSF read the following article on my site: “MRI Health Risk – Fatal, Incurable Illness.”

STOPPING

Yes, its true, once you have started dialysis you must be very careful if you choose to opt out of this treatment. According to the Renal Unit of the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, Scotland, “for patients already on dialysis, surveys in several countries have shown that stopping dialysis is quite a common cause of death.” However, these are almost always people who have developed other serious illnesses after starting dialysis.

INFECTION AND CLOTTING

Clean your access before and after treatments. Avoid sleeping on the arm of your access as this could cause clotting which would need to be cleaned out before you could get a treatment. If you have a catheter place, keep the bandage dry, germs love dark, moist places.

Oil Prices Rise as Temperature Plummets

In the frigid Northeastern United States, homeowners prepare to tighten their belts as forecasters have predicted much lower temperatures in the region in the recent future. As the consumer of 80% of the world’s heating oil, the Northeastern United States often serves as a barometer for the raising and lowering of the price of oil across the world. The Midwestern states are dreading an approaching cold front as well, and as a large user of natural gas, are expecting to see those prices jump in reaction to forecasts as well.

Large demand dictates price fluctuations as often as small supplies do. When more users are clamoring for a particular product, whether it be heating oil or the newest “Tickle Me Elmo”, prices are sure to rise. This unfortunate reality comes much to the chagrin of the population of the Northeastern United States, because they are all too familiar with its adverse effects upon their winter budgets. Hitting them where it really hurts, oil supplying distributors know they have homeowners over a barrel, so to speak, with no other choice but to foot the bill in order to ensure the comfort and safety of their loved family members during the long, cold winter months. The United States Weather Service forecasts far-below normal temperatures in the next two weeks of 2008, and consumers are at the mercy of fluctuating prices.

Presidents of the United States have time and again submitted themselves before the oil producers of the Middle East in hopes of lightening the burdens levied upon the citizens of the United States in difficult times. With a recession threatening, President Bush, currently on a visit to Saudi Arabia, begged oil barons to consider the effects the high prices are having on their consumer base. President Bush argued that the effects of the high price of oil will be widespread, affecting consumers’ ability to purchases in the future if the economy suffers as it has been. Bush asked that OPEC members consider the undue burdens rendered upon their largest consumers, the American populace, when setting new production levels in the coming weeks.

Only time will tell if the supplication of the United States’ Chief Executive Officer will help lighten the load of Americans in the winter months to come. Domestic suppliers of natural gas and oil like Triple Diamond Energy Corp of Texas are doing what they can to provide Americans with fair prices and adequate amounts to keep them warm and satisfied in all seasons.

Wu Long Tea Qing Cha – The Blue Green Wonder Tea

Wulong tea is grown in the province of Jujian in China, and in Taiwan, and it is largely the most popular tea being served in China. It is said to have properties that no other tea can match.

Wu-Long means “black dragon,” and the legend tells us that a farmer who was looking for new flavors in his garden, was lost in thought when he saw spring out of a tea bush an enormous black snake of dragon. He was convinced that this was a sign from higher up. Quickly he grabbed a few leaves from the bush to taste them. This was the first Wu-long tea.

In fact Wu-long tea, sometimes spelled wulong or Oolong is the same as any other tea. Black tea, green tea, white tea, all come from the same bush. The differences in flavors are due to several reasons, first the land and geography as well as climate of where the tea is grown. Secondly the fermentation process that tea is subjected to during drying. Wulong tea is not permitted to ferment totally, but it is more fermented that green tea, that has no fermentation whatsoever.

It is brewed from entire leaves that were never broken, has a subtle taste with a nutty flavor, a hint of honey and hazelnut.  Of course when we say that it has a nutty taste, it does not imply that it was brewed with nuts. It means that the natural flavor of the tea can remind us of chestnuts.

Besides its wonderful soft, flavor with a hint of chestnut, Oolong tea as do other green teas has some very definite health advantages. One of the most noted health benefit was made popular by Oprah Winfrey as it is a weight loss wonder.

Besides weight loss and weight control it has proven to be an asset in fighting disease like cancer, Parkinson, diabetes, heart related diseases, and much more. It is not a magic pill, but it can help.
