Arrival Of 4G Wireless – Its Effects On People’s Lifestyle

Overall Effects- People’s Lifestyles and Mobile Communications

The 4th Generation (4G) mobile communications systems are projected to be carried out around 2010. World Over the research on 4G (Fourth Generation) Mobile Communications is in progress since the last 6 years. The technology is still in evolution but Countries have already started committing themselves to its implementation. India has said that it would leapfrog from 2G to 4G bypassing the 3G Technology. China, Korea and Japan are jointly developing 4G Phones; China will implement 4G technology for the Beijing Olympic games. WiMax Technology is on its last legs because it does not support VOIP. Data transfers will happen at LAN Speeds of 100Mbps.The World is looking up to 4G for transformation of the way people do day-to-day business. Once the technology evolves the hand phone used in 4G mobile communications would be an all in one device for use in. ¢ Education, Arts and Science ¢ Business activities outside the office ¢ Network games and music/video content downloading ¢ Visual Communication ¢ Merchandise purchase and settlement ¢ Daily Life ¢ Work ¢ Nursing and Health Care ¢ Emergency Medical Treatment ¢ Disaster Management.

People’s Lifestyles and Mobile Communications

The 4G Mobile Communication Systems can have even greater impact on people’s lives, leading to changes in lifestyles and transforming our living environments, way of business and the social system. 4G mobile systems are likely to widely and deeply penetrate our daily lives, to create a new information and communications environment in our society. The use of mobile communications services will be taken for granted in the daily lives of people, and their behavior may be significantly change from the conventional behavioral patterns. , It will enable people to study literally, play, work, and shop anywhere they want. As a consequence, people will be liberated from the limitations and restrictions of space, and be able to more freely choose where they want to be schools, offices and homes will not disappear as a physical space, but the significance of “place” and “space” could be much different from our conventional thinking, a great transformation of business structure, particularly in industries targeted at consumers, and an emergence of new businesses. service offering may shift in varying degrees into a structure where “a service is delivered to the user” instead of “users are required to go out to receive service”. Mobile government services and remote education is likely to be provided purely as an application on mobile networks. Although it may be difficult to realize full-scale on-line medical service right away, an environment where doctors with advanced mobile medical devices visit patient’s homes to provide treatment using special mobile services are considered sufficiently possible .The advancement in mobile services are likely to enlarge the markets for a wide range of products that are often used in daily life, including mobile terminals, information appliances, home network, intelligent vehicles, etc

It may not be too much to say that the service that has most dramatically transformed people’s lifestyles in the last decade is mobile communications such as cellular phones and PHS. Ten years ago, cellular phones were still too expensive and too bulky to carry around, thus, they were used only by limited amount of business users and others. After the explosive growth in the late 1990’s, however, mobile communications have turned into the most frequently used means for communications for many users. Furthermore, with the creation of e-mail, content services, i.e., ringing tones and games, and other applications such as web information services for cellular phones, mobile communications have provided a lot of fun and conveniences to people’s daily lives, and even caused some changes in the power balance between various information medium.

In the next ten years, mobile communications services are expected to make further progress and cast an even greater impact on people’s lives, leading to changes in lifestyles and transforming our living environments, way of business and the social system. Due to the advancement of mobile services, 4G mobile systems are expected to be much more widely used in and closely related to our daily lives than today. For instance, through the six use of mobile terminals equipped with full-scale settlement capabilities, people would be able to use mobile devices as a secure electronic settlement means for the purchases they make from shops or vending machines in town. If a solid personnel authentication becomes a reality through biological authentication technologies, people may be able to gain access a variety of services including administrative services of local governments from their mobile terminals at hand. A significant enhancement in data transmission rates will allow users to obtain and enjoy video software and advanced game contents, etc., in an instant regardless of their location.

Transactions of business mail with a huge data attachment can be performed without any stress in mobile environments, which may make the word “desk-work” obsolete. People will be able to receive necessary navigation information in a simple manner whenever they go out, and may no longer feel inconvenient due to a lack of information. In addition, if abnormalities, such as an accident or a natural disaster, people will be able to make necessary contacts immediately from virtually anywhere, improving the safety standard of our lives.

As described above, 4G mobile systems are likely to widely and deeply penetrate our daily lives, to create a new information and communications environment in our society. The use of mobile communications services will be taken for granted in the daily lives of people, and their behavior may be significantly change from the conventional behavioral patterns.

Traditionally, people used several life spaces of different functionality or significance (home, school, workplace, bank, department stores, hospitals, to name a few) for specific purposes. Mobile services, however, can provide many of these functionalities transcending spaces. In other words, it enables people to study literally, play, work, and shop anywhere they want. As a consequence, people will be liberated from the limitations and restrictions of space, and be able to more freely choose where they want to be.

This is a transformation from a “space-based lifestyle” with many restrictions to a freer and more flexible “object-oriented lifestyle”. Naturally, schools, offices and homes will not disappear as a physical space, but the significance of “place” and “space” could be much different from our conventional thinking.

Something Scary Was Lurking Unbeknownst to Me: The Corona Virus

We’d heard of a virus that was stationed over in China. It appeared that the Chinese had gotten it under control, but I wasn’t one hundred per cent certain. My imaginative, sci-fi mind was always tossing up various possibilities. I think my logical side said the virus’s arrival in Italy would have been improbable, yet I wasn’t prepared to accept that it was unreal. Maybe four or five scenarios were tossed up in my head, and then there were plans A, B, and C, should the much-talked-about pandemic arrive. I was possibly becoming OCD, potentially a useful acronym during 2020!

Unsurprisingly, many of my students and co-workers shrugged off the idea. We believed that doctors and scientists had all the answers. Well, I didn’t trust they had ‘all’ the answers; nonetheless, it looked like brainy people in China would get it all under control. So, this issue became popular in English language classes. Everyone scrutinized each possibility while most only considered the inconsequential arrival of the virus, which was expected to be more like the minor flu. I wondered whether I should have been talking about it during my lessons. Perchance, I thought, this topic wouldn’t be so pertinent to students’ lives. Maybe they needed to study business English, holidays, cooking, art and lighter items.

All around me, it looked like people were sick. One of my pupils came to class for three weeks with a hacking cough, body aches, and a general ill appearance. She said she had to go to work and take her exams, too, because she had to care for her husband and a small child. As one student coughed on me several times from across the table, I tried to move out of the trajectory for fear it might be Corona–just a natural reaction, I suppose! Even one of my co-workers was under the weather. In such small cubicles full of students and people who worked while ill, it was likely that respiratory illnesses could spread. I would be armed, no doubt, with a bottle of liquid soap as well as hand sanitizer!

I couldn’t believe how many sick people were all over the place and hoped I wouldn’t be in their shoes. It just seemed irresponsible to come in for a lesson or take an exam when one was sick. Thank God I had at least had a flu shot a few months earlier! Could it be that the vaccine had protected me from whatever infection was circulating in Italy? Surely it wasn’t the dreaded Corona Virus–must’ve been the cold mixed with the flu. That didn’t stop me from suggesting that we take protective measures.

I asked everyone why we didn’t encourage sick people to stay home. Nevertheless, I knew management didn’t care what I thought because I was a foreigner visiting a nation that had an ongoing wave of xenophobia. I had previously written emails in which I gave recommendations about how educators should’ve met together with management to come up with collaborative teaching strategies. Of course, people who weren’t interested in teamwork snubbed my ideas. I took the possibility of getting sick seriously, so I could not just let this go. I wrote to management, ‘Why don’t we ask people to stay home or let them cancel a lesson if they have the flu or similar illness?’ To this email, I received no reply.

Not long afterwards, about February 21, 2020, I heard of rampant illnesses in the Lombardy region. Milan was only a thirty-minute trip by train. Lots of people traveled back and forth to Milan every day. I suspected that many people were carrying the Corona Virus, and for all I knew, I might have been exposed to it. For about three days, I felt fatigued muscles. Although I usually went to sleep after midnight, I was tired for three days, giving in to sleepiness at 10 p.m. At this point, I’m not so confident that I’ve been assaulted by the virus; it’s more than likely I haven’t had it.

The number of cases was increasing. According to the news, the conditions in the Lombardy Region were moving in our direction. I would have to stop taking the train. Although officials had put emergency plans into action to wipe out the Swine Flu in 2009, this time, officials didn’t seem to take action quickly enough. Some Italian virologists diminished the importance of the Corona Virus. The Chinese seemed to have gotten it under control. Some Europeans and Russians stated that it was not a danger to young people, and President Trump claimed it was some kind of hoax. Hospitals reported that people over 65 were dying. At that point, there weren’t enough supplies; I heard that physicians were going to have to make life and death decisions, giving preference to those who had fewer pre-existing conditions.

It looked as if a wave was swiftly sweeping across the globe. Various, but not all, politicians continued to play down the threat. I understood they were trying to save their economies. I questioned what was going on in Russia because it gave the impression that the Russian people, in particular, were not getting ready for the Corona Wave that would eventually strike. The same goes for Americans who were joking about its arrival. In Germany, a few people had Corona parties to celebrate. It would not be long before I heard about it hammering New York City. How would such a metropolitan cope with it on such a colossal scale, with looming job losses and the necessity to go into quarantine? With so many workers at home, the economy might plunge into chaos!

Half the people across the globe are now hiding from the hideous Corona Virus, which has struck people of all ages and backgrounds, not discerning between rich and poor (2 April 2020). I regret seeing my imagination turn into reality and hope this monstrous virus will soon dissipate. If lessons are learned, they might be to learn from literature (both fiction and non-fiction), to be well prepared, and to help one another. It will undoubtedly take collaboration to defeat this pandemic.

Explaining What Masai Mara Safaris Are All About

Kenya being a popular East African country receives numerous guests every year. It is a lovable country because of favorable weather, hospitable communities, art and culture, wildlife, physical mountains and so much more. Masai Mara safaris tend to be the desire of many visitors. The word has spread across the world about this game reserve usually found at the southwestern border of Kenya and Tanzania. It is near Serengeti, a large wildlife sanctuary found in Tanzania.

Often referred to as Mara, this game reserve covers a larger unfenced area where tourists flock every day. Since most visitors show deep interest in touring Masai Mara when they arrive in the country, numerous tour and guide companies offer them special safaris. Usually, several foreign sightseers enter the country via the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, which is based in Nairobi environs. Others arrive at the Moi International Airport in Mombasa City.

There are even visitors who cruise in the Indian Ocean to the Kenyan coastline. No matter how you decide to enter Kenya, there are tour operators who can take you to the Mara Game Reserve. There are even some companies that arrange a quick air travel excursion for a tourist who is in a hurry to get there. In other words, you can organize a quick cheap trip that only involves this part of Kenya. If you have interests in touring other parts of the country, you can find the right travel partner directly on the Internet.

Masai Mara safaris are unique mainly because of the Great Migration. It is associated with the annual movement of herds of wildebeests, Zebras and impalas. Aiming to search for healthy pastures on the Kenyan Plains, these animals attempt to cross the Mara River, one of the biggest rivers in the region that hosts monster crocodiles and hippos. Realizing the apparent danger waiting in the waters, millions of animals flock on the riverbanks waiting for the bravest to jump into the water.

In this hot pursuit to feast on these herbivores are the Africa big cats too, such as lions, cheetahs and leopards. Even the hyenas rest in wait on the Kenya side. The Great Migration is surely the Eighth wonder of the world that most foreigners come to witness every summer. This game reserve is many miles from the Kenyan capital yet big luxury hotels, lodges and camps exist. This is also the right place to mingle with the Kenya’s popular Masai community which has managed to sustain its culture over the years.

Its traditions are interesting and tourists get to view Masai dancers and singers perform at various lodges. They also manage to buy very lovely leather sandals, beaded necklaces and other ornaments from the community vendors. A tour to the park cannot be complete without a hot air balloon safari in the clear morning skies of the region. The experience is fascinating as you are able to explore the entire park from above. Since the journeys are planned in the morning, you should expect to view the animals cross the river at dawn.

See the City in All Its Glory With Professional Limo Services

If you have never visited a major city before, chances are you have no idea what you are missing and getting a great look at the city is in order. However, navigating a city can get tricky, especially for out of towners. You can take a cab or bus but these modes of transportation can get very expensive, very quickly.

One of the best ways to see the city is by utilizing professional limo services. Limo drivers are extremely experienced at driving in the areas they are assigned. Cities can look like a nightmare to drive through when you aren’t used to such a massive amount of congested traffic, but a professional limo driver can navigate through the maze of buses, trucks, cars, and pedestrians with precision.

Getting lost in the city is an easy thing to do if you tackle it alone, but an experienced driver in a luxury limo can take you and your group to see the sights and sounds without any problems. There is so much to see in great American cities and the only way you can truly take in all that they have to offer is by riding in style in the back of a limousine.

If you are in the city for an event such as a concert, show, or awards ceremony, arrive to your destination looking like a celebrity. Imagine pulling up to the event in a stretch limo while dressed in your very best clothes. This is definitely one way to make a bold statement. A great limo service will always make sure you arrive on time.

Many times, businessmen and women will opt to rent limo services to take them to various business meetings and functions around the city. This is a wise option because it allows you to work from the car and prepare your notes for the next meeting while in route. You wouldn’t be able to do this if you were driving yourself or riding on a noisy bus.

Another great aspect to traveling around the city in a limo is the luxury of it all. Most limos are fully equipped with mini-bars, surround sound, TVs, DVD players, MP3 hookups, gaming consoles, and plenty of room to relax. These types of cars are capable of accommodating up to 15 people at one time so you can see the city with all of your friends by your side.

Limo rentals are often safer than other modes of transportation, especially when children are concerned. Should you have a lucky boy or girl who is celebrating their birthday or going to prom in the city, they probably do not want their parents in tow. Many limo services will provide transportation to and from events for kids and give them the star treatment in a controlled environment.

Taking a trip around any city is much more cost effective when using limo services as most companies offer flat rates and some may offer special discounts for tours. If you eek a full tour, ask the company you are considering if the tour is guided by the driver. In other words, inquire whether the driver talks to you over a PA system and details the sights and areas you are seeing in the city.

Before you book your limo, make sure you are privy to the company’s policies, especially those involving cancellations. Things happen and emergencies arise that might prevent you from being able to go on your trip. Ensure that you are able to cancel your reservations without receiving any type of fee. Most companies offer a 24-hour cancellation period. Enjoy your trip to the city!

New Baby Home Remedy Tips for Caring for the Newborn Baby Arrival

Sometimes we get caught up in all the advertising hype of what we need to purchase to keep baby happy and healthy. We can be blown away by all the different things around to tempt us. What I found confusing was that every different pharmacy or store I went into, told me different things were needed to help my baby get well. I also got carried away with all the mumbo jumbo out there and yet I found that my grandmothers old fashioned home remedies worked just as well, if not better than most of the products in the market place. The best parts about her remedies were that they were so much cheaper and smelt so much nicer.

Colds:

The first time my baby got a cold with snuffles and runny nose and eyes, I was a long way from a doctor and chemist shop but I did have some camphor and lavender oil on hand. I remembered my grandmother telling me to mix them together with a little warm olive oil and gently rub my baby’s chest with it. I did this and by the next morning his chest sounded a little clearer. I repeated this two times during the day and again last thing at night. Even though it took several days for his cold to clear up, it gave me great satisfaction that I did it naturally.

It is important to keep the fluids up when the baby has a cold and often a little freshly squeezed orange juice or some blackcurrant juice added to their boiled water can help them because of the vitamin C they will get from it.

Another thing my mother told me that I always found extremely useful was to add a drop or two of eucalyptus oil to some hot water and place in a safe place, away from baby’s little hands, but close enough so the aroma surrounds them while they sleep. Not only does this smell lovely but is great for clearing blocked nasal passages. Great to put a few drops on your own hankie if you have a blocked nose. Just breath in the oil whenever you feel you are becoming blocked up again.

If you are worried about the baby or something is telling you that it’s more than just a slight cold you do need to take him/her to a doctor to be checked over by a professional but if you are happy that it is nothing serious it is great to be able to help your baby naturally.

Teething:

Another of my grandmother’s remedies that I found great was when the baby is teething or even as they grow older and get a toothache; you can help to alleviate the pain with a little help with Oil of Cloves. This can be found in all health food stores and is a great product to keep around the home as it has lots of great uses.

It the baby or child is teething or getting a toothache, rub a tiny amount of oil of cloves on the outside area of the face where the tooth or swollen gum is. Never rub it inside their mouths. This will definitely help to ease the pain caused and once again is a completely natural way of helping your baby.

Constipation:

If your toddler becomes constipated then another great way to help them is to get some prunes into them. You will probably find that they don’t like them so a great way to get them to take it is to buy prune juice which tastes yummy and is easy to add to their bottled water or even with their cereal. Even adding just 1 drop of Chamomile Oil to some gentle oil blend and massaging on the baby’s tummy can help ease constipation. Make sure you get them onto weetbix or a similar breakfast cereal as soon as they are of the age recommended to take solids. Another great fruit juice for them is grape juice as this also great taste and they usually love it. Always give them as much fruit in their diet as recommended at the various stages of growth. I found that mine loved pureed apple with a little home made egg custard or yoghurt. Often the commercial baby foods that you buy not only are very expensive but they don’t have the same taste or texture as what you make yourself. Babies also need good fibre in their diet to make sure they don’t get constipated so make sure you help your baby by ensuring that they get it naturally.

Diarrhoea:

If your baby gets diarrhoea then 1 drop of Mandarin Essential Oil added to a massage blend can be gently massaged on baby’s tummy to help. This is only recommended if it is a mild form of diarrhoea. I would recommend that you consult your family doctor if diarrhoea continues as a baby can dehydrate very quickly and so you would need to have a professional check it out.

Not Sleeping or Unsettled:

If you find that your baby is not sleeping properly at night time there are several things that you may like to do before you resort to any form of medication. I found that the new baby needs to be settled into a routine as soon as you come home from the hospital. They have been cocooned for the last nine months in a very safe, warm and snug place and have suddenly been wrenched from this and placed in a completely different environment. You need to get them back to that snug, warm and safe place as quickly as you can. If you continually keep picking the baby up and moving it around all the time then it will soon become very unsettled and restless. If you do this you will find a very happy and contented baby will emerge. Always check to make sure that the baby has nothing wrong to make it cry or not sleep. If it has been fed, is dry and not suffering any obvious pain then try this .Make the baby a lovely warm bath, scented with a drop or two of pure essential Lavender or Mandarin Oil. These oils are not only calming but they also have a slight sedative effect. Alternatively you can add a drop of either to a good massage base and gently massage the baby all over. Not only will the baby love the massage each night but it will definitely help the baby sleep soundly.

Cradle Cap:

A lot of people will tell you to use oil on the baby’s head if it gets cradle cap. I found that my grandmother’s remedy much easier and quicker to get rid of it. Mix some Bi carb soda with a small amount of warm water to make a soft paste. Rub this over the area but avoiding the eyes and leave it to dry. Just wash off with a soft cloth or cotton wool and you will find the cradle cap comes off very easily.

Chewing Gum:

A great way to remove chewing gum from your toddler’s hair or from their clothes is to rub it with eucalyptus oil. My mum taught me about using this when I was a child and I can still remember her running to get out the good old eucalyptus oil whenever one of us either trod on or got chewing gum in our hair. It is just the easiest and best thing to use. This is not only a lot cheaper than all the expensive goo removers in the marketplace but it sure smells nicer. You will find that if you check the labels on the products available in the shops for this that most of them list the main ingredient as eucalyptus oil anyway.

Maldives – A Great Place to Visit

Who doesn’t love to go on a vacation? I am sure we all do from time to time. For all of you who are seeking a perfect place to enjoy the vacation, going to their much awaited honeymoon, trying to go for scuba diving or have a bath in the sea can easily turn around and fly to Maldives. This is a beautiful destination for visitors where life couldn’t be simpler. Warm beach water, beautiful blue sky and colorful towns are awaiting you to arrive. Pull your swimming socks up, take a camera, pack your bags, and get ready to have a blast in Maldives.

If you are worried about how to get to Maldives, then please don’t. Maldives is probably the easiest place to get a visa to. It gives you a visa on arrival for 30 days. But you need to have necessary documents with you for that. The reservations in hotels don’t cost that much too. Just a mere 150 USD will do. However, importing certain substances are banned (pork, alcohol and pornographic materials) here unless you want to be punished. Male International Airport is your door to Maldives. Planes from Sri-Lanka, Singapore, Britain and Dubai land there. If you are from Italy, Gan Airport is the one at Addu you’ll be aiming for. They have flights that arrive from and depart for Milan.

Once you are in Maldives, you can use boats as local transports. These are like taxis in Maldives. Another transport you can have is air taxis (private plane that render transporting services). You can have privately owned Yachts do the transport service for you. You will need IATP (Internal Atoll Traveling Permit) with you to visit places except Male. Interestingly, your passport and an invitation of the resident of your desired Island is needed to get you one. You need to give out 10 Malaysian Rupees to avail the paper.

Maldives is popular for scuba diving. The divers enjoy it in the seas and have a great time there. They prefer to stay in the ships rather than resorts. The reason is the resort fee is very high there. You will see fishes of various kinds under water in Maldives and the coral Islands are just awesome to behold. Surfing can be another option for a sea lover. The biggest waves soak Maldives between the months of March to October. June-July is the ideal time for a little surfing or snorkeling.

You will find very few handicraft shops in Male to buy from. The Maldives Rufiah is something that can be called a Souvenir itself. The coins make up wonderful presents. As far as the food goes, you can expect a lot of sea foods which have a flavor of southern India and Sri-Lanka. Rest assured the food will be spicy with fish and “Roshi” (very much akin to Roti in India).

Maldives is a great place to visit when you have the summer looking at you. The beaches, sea world and the cuisines steal your attention away from anything else. You just need to get into Maldives, sneak your head in the waves and Enjoy!

The Art of Tipping in Punta Cana

When you are on vacation it is sometimes hard to figure out how to give tips. Who should you tip? When and how much should you tip? These are typically the questions that I hear from tourists traveling to Punta Cana, the Dominican Republic.

People who work in tourism in Punta Cana often receive a relatively small basic salary, which is supplemented with tips and commissions for sales (e.g. excursions). These hardworking people are used to receiving and often expect to receive a tip for their services.

If you want to be fully prepared to give tips from the moment you arrive to Punta Cana, it would be a good idea to make sure you have plenty of small USD bills. When you have arrived in Punta Cana, you can always exchange larger USD bills to smaller bills or withdraw money in the local currency (i.e. Dominican Pesos) from any ATM. One USD is approximately 40 Dominican Pesos.

Arriving at the airport:

It all begins when you arrive at the airport in Punta Cana. You will be greeted by friendly porters/bellboys who are ready to help you locate and carry your luggage from the baggage claim to the car or bus that will take you to your resort. The porter expects to receive USD 1 per suitcase, or a bit more if your luggage is very heavy or if you have lots of it.

At the resort:

When you arrive at the resort, you may tip the driver if you feel that he has been driving well, has been friendly and you generally feel satisfied with his services. Normally, you should tip 10-15% of the price for the trip, which in most cases would be approx. USD 3-5 if your resort were located in Punta Cana or Bávaro (within 10-30 minutes from the airport).

When you arrive at the resort, a bellboy, who will assist you with your luggage, will greet you. You may tip him USD 1 per suitcase if he brings your luggage to your room.

It is always a good idea to tip the maid, who cleans your room, either at the beginning of your vacation or during. Normally, you should tip the maid about USD 2 per day and leave the money on the bed where she is sure to find it.

Sometime during your vacation in Punta Cana, you will most likely need the assistance of the concierge – e.g. to make dinner reservations. A tip of about USD 5-10 for his/her assistance will go a long way, and you may experience that a table at the restaurant, which was originally full, is now available for you at the hour you desire. You may also experience that something, which was completely impossible for you to obtain all of a sudden, becomes “no problemo”.

Waiters and bartenders will for sure appreciate your tip. You can either leave a larger tip of approx. USD 10-20 at the beginning of your vacation (then they will surely never forget you) or smaller tips throughout your vacation (e.g. USD 1-2 every time you get great service).

On an excursion or at the golf course:

If you are going on an excursion during your vacation in Punta Cana, it is recommendable that you bring money for tips to the tour guide. He/she will typically share the tips with the driver and/or other staff on the excursion. If you have had a good time, you can easily leave USD 2-3 on a half-day excursion and USD 5 on a full day excursion. If you have gone on a private excursion with a private driver or tour guide, you should leave a larger tip, e.g. USD 10.

If you are a golfer and are going to play one of the courses in Punta Cana or Casa de Campo where caddies are mandatory (Punta Espada, Corales or Teeth of the Dog), you must typically pay a caddie fee of USD 25-30 for the caddie. Normally you will need to have one caddie per golf cart with 2 persons. Apart from the caddie fee, a tip of USD 15-20 per person is expected, depending on how satisfied you have been with the caddie or how well you have played… and how great your mood is after the round.

If someone cleans your golf clubs and/or shoes after the round, you should tip this person USD 3-5.

At the local restaurant:

If you decide to go out to eat at one of the local restaurants in Punta Cana, you should be aware that there is usually already a 10% tip included in your bill (by law). In most places, you are expected to leave an additional tip of 5-10% of the amount on your bill if you have been satisfied with the food and service.

It may seem as if you will hardly be able to walk around without throwing money and tips left and right. Do not despair – if everything else fails and you should be in doubt then follow your mood. If you have been happy with the service given to you, and if you do not have anything to complain about, then the best way of showing your appreciation is by leaving a tip for the people who have taken care of you.

Happy vacation!

Let’s Get Down (What to Bring to a Party!)

Not everyone has a clue as to the socially correct procedure of entering a party. This may not make you the king of the ball, but it’s a beginning.

You show up at the party with nada. You might not even think of a gift until you arrive, and then you see what others have in tow. How can this be?

I know it’s hard to think of everything, but think of the person hosting a party, housewarming, or social even. It can never hurt to arrive with a little something something. Some people like to bring hooch, but if things get out of control, you don’t want to be the person that broke the camel’s. Unless your guest’s have heart troubles, or have religious beliefs against it, coffee is a wonderful gift. You can find excellent gourmet coffees on the internet that are fresh roasted and reasonably priced (avoid stale stuff from the supermarket. Making an exotic fruit drink from locally grown produce is always a stand out alternative! If you aren’t near produce stands, and you don’t know what to get, the last choice for the beverage category is fruit teas. Almost everyone loves fruit teas. Low or no caffeine, they can fit into every meal and be blended with regular teas to make delicious flavored iced tea without adding any sugar. Currently I’m on a kiwi tea kick.

Obviously, we’ve covered hooch, so lets move on to comida. The healthy choice is a vegetable meddle with a creamy dipping sauce. Don’t just bring everything in a brown paper bag. Think artistic presentation! You can get a colorful, plastic tray, for very little money. It will make all the difference in the world. Keep your eye out for specials on serving dishes at stores and even yard sales. Make sure you include a card so that they know the platter doesn’t have to be returned at all.

If you don’t want to give food or drink you may want to consider bringing flowers, a gift basket, or a potted plant. It is always best to avoid hard alcohol, pictures of yourselves (unless you are attending a family event), and work related items. Finally, don’t forget to enclose your card! You do want credit for your well thought out gift, don’t you?

DHL, FEDEX, UPS – Domestic Shipping Service Comparison

There is a full range of services including standout services that can be available to any small business with multiple shipping accounts. Taking advantage of this full range through a company shipping policy can help reduced shipping costs and maximize efficiency.

Use of Multiple Carriers-Small businesses shippers should have accounts with multiple carriers in order to take advantage of the different service types. Sometimes businesses are under the impression that they must use only one shipping account or that they have to close an account with one shipper after opening up an account with another shipper. It is in the best interest of the business to have account with multiple carriers in order to take advantage of full range of services outlined in the table below.

Standout Services-Two good examples of stand out services are the Hundredweight service offered by UPS and ShipReady offered by DHL. UPS many years ago had a specialty in transporting heavy weight ground packages. Although they have gained market share in the overnight business the Hundredweight category speaks to this specialty. Anyone planning on shipping a one-off heavyweight item would be better served by using a company that has a specialty in that service. DHL ShipReady is a shipping product by DHL that is often under recognized and therefore under utilized. For a fixed price, you can send as much weight overnight as can be fit into their envelope with no pickup charge or residential charge. These ShipReady envelopes come in several sizes.

Does it absolutely have to be there by 8:30? One rule that should be included in any company shipping policy is for the shipper to check with the package recipient regarding urgency. For example, Fedex First Overnight and UPS Next Early AM will arrive the next day before 8:30. This 8:30 service is not offered by DHL. However, as a shipper you should be perfectly clear on whether the recipient is expecting and will open that package at 8:30AM. Sending a package, DHL Next Day 10:30, FEDEX Priority Overnight or UPS Next Day Air, all of which will arrive by 10:30AM might be all that the recipient needs. Who knows…maybe your recipient will not even be at the office until 3:00PM and then DHL Next Day 3:00PM, FEDEX Standard Overnight or UPS Next Day Air Saver would provide the needed quality of service at significantly reduced cost. The same is true for 2nd day service. UPS provides a second day service that arrives by 10:30. However all three carriers provide a second day service that will arrive by end of day. You never know about urgency if you do not ask and the savings can be significant over time.

One final point that we want to make is on the matter of airway bill preparation. Many office workers do not fill out the waybill completely especially when sending overnight letters. If you leave any portion of the waybill empty the carrier will default to the most expensive option. Make sure that anyone filling out waybills knows how to fill them out correctly. For example, if you fail to indicate that the package may be left without a signature (if this is the case) then a signature will be acquired for an extra fee.
