Purse parties are always a little more fun when some short and simple games are involved.

Here are some great ideas for icebreaker games that will be sure to get everyone relaxed and mingling.

These are great because the theme of each is…….yep, you guessed it–PURSES!

Purse Scavenger Hunt-

This game is extremely simple and fun. Before the party, sit down and write out a list of things usually found in purses. For example, lipstick, a penny, paperclip, mirror, etc. Write out about 15-30 items depending on the size of your group. (remember, not too many or the game will be too long)

Simply call out each item and the one who has all or MOST of these items in her purse wins a prize. If you have a lot of people at your party, plan on having prizes for the top 2 or top 3. You can either have them hold up each item when they find it, or for added excitement, have them bring the item to you. The first one there gets the point.

This may sound silly…but believe me it is hilarious and your guests will love it.!

Purse Treasure Hunt-

This one takes a little time to prepare but is pretty fun. Cut out about 20 purses from colored construction paper. On the backs of 3 of them, write a big ‘X’. Hide them around the house. When the guests arrive have them look for these purses. The 3 guests who find the purses marked with an X win a prize. This gets everyone up and off their feet within the first few minutes and everyone seems to have a good time searching as quickly as they can.

You can also do this game with small coin purses that you can purchase really cheap at a thrift store. You can hide less of them, 5-8, but in each one put a small make up or lotion as a prize.

Remember That Purse-

I recommend having one purse as a raffle giveaway that is displayed as the centerpiece of your purse parties display. As the guests arrive make sure they notice that this purse will be given away as a prize and tell them to look at it and examine it. After everyone has arrived and had a chance to look at the purse, take the purse out of sight.

Now, ask a series of questions about this purse. For example: What is the brand name? What color is it? What color is the interior? What material is it made of? What is the brand name? What color is the hard ware? How many pockets inside? outside? Does it have adjustable shoulder straps?

The winner or winners receive a prize. I usually don’t like the purse to be the prize simply because sometimes you have more than one winner. I recommend saving the purse for the raffle at the end.

Holding a raffle is always a great idea for purse parties! It will immediately draw your guests over to your display table to take a look at the raffle gift. Upon arrival, each guest gets a raffle ticket. At the end of the evening, give the display purse away as the raffle prize. Make sure to create a buzz about this raffle drawing early on in the night. It keeps everyone excited all the way to the end.

Forgotten Rule #1: Show Up At Least One Hour Early

A speaker should be ready and waiting for his or her audience – never the other way around. There are a multitude of reasons to show up at least one hour early. You’ll have a chance to set up all your equipment; get technical help if required; and get a feel for the area in which you’ll be walking around and clear out any obstacles that may distract your audience and obstruct your space, like tables, chairs, extension cords or anything else that you might trip on.

Traffic, parking, snowstorms, or subway delays will all conspire to stress you out – and you certainly don’t want to appear stressed. Once you arrive and your equipment is set up, you’ll be able to relax and review your presentation. And if you can, greet members of your audience as they arrive. Once you meet them, they’re not strangers anymore and it’s certainly easier to present to friends than a room full of strangers.

Bottom line is, be prepared by being early.

Forgotten Rule #2: Murphy’s Law is waiting for you

Murphy’s Law states that “whatever can go wrong, will go wrong.” And Murphy loves to sabotage unprepared speakers. Think carefully of all the things that can go wrong, and be ready for them. Arrive early. Bring an extra copy of your presentation on a memory key. Print out your slides to give as handouts in case you can’t connect with the projector. If you’re bringing a laptop, bring an extra battery. Be ready to give your presentation without the benefit of your slides in case of technical failure. Make sure there’s water nearby when you present in case your mouth gets dry. A backup plan is your best defense.

Forgotten Rule #3: Perception is everything

Your audience will be checking you out before you speak, throughout your presentation, and long after you’ve finished. Yet that doesn’t seem to stop some speakers from frowning or looking overly nervous before they speak. Even if you don’t feel relaxed, you must make the effort to look like you are. Your audience is expecting to get something out of your presentation, and it’s up to you to fulfill their expectations as best you can. Showing your anxiety on your face serves no purpose other than to show your audience that you’re not confident. When all else fails, ‘fake it ’til you make it.’ And you WILL make it.

Forgotten Rule #4: Why So Noisy?

Get rid of all accessories that make noise when you move. For men, this means taking all keys and loose change out of your pocket. Women must choose jewelry and other accessories carefully. If bracelets make noise when they touch each other, wear only one. Beware of large earrings that take emphasis away from your face. Bold colors or designs can potentially distract an audience as well.

Warren Buffett, the mastermind of the world of investments, believes that the “Owners Earnings” is a true measure of valuation of a company. He believes that free cash flows of the company determine the wealth that is attributable to the shareholders of the organization who are in reality the owners of the company. Owners Earnings = Net Income + Depreciation and Amortization – Capital Investment – additional Working Capital needs.

Investors that are familiar with the concept of economic value added would find that the Warren Buffets formula is based upon calculating the free cash flow that comes about from the investment. But what exactly is the reasoning behind the equation? Well to start with, the net income is an accrual based calculation that considers cash and non cash items; therefore, depreciation and amortization, that are both noncash items, must be added back to the income to arrive at the income that reflects the net cash flow from operating activities of the organization. Buffett regards depreciation as a historical cost that should not be incorporated in the calculation of net income. Moreover, he argues that amortization of items such as goodwill is unrealistic. This is because the goodwill of the company is likely to increase with the passage of time rather than decrease.

The next item within the equation is the capital expenditure that does not form a part of the net income within the income statement. Rather a fixed percentage of the capital expenditure is deducted from the gross profit known as the depreciation to arrive at the net income. Warren Buffett states that the actual capital expenditure that has taken place in the year must be subtracted from the net income so that an investor can calculate the true value of free cash flows that have been generated after the deduction of all expenditures along with the capital expenditure. This is because the capital expenditure has resulted in the generation of sales for the given year and must be deducted in order to reflect the true net income in a given year.

Similarly, the working capital needs of the organization must be calculated by determining the net changes in each of the components of the working capital cycle namely the creditors, debtors, and stock. The net changes in the working capital must be reflected in the owner’s income. If the working capital requirements have increased, the net effect must be deducted while if they have decreased, the net effect must be added back to the net income.

The ultimate result of the calculation is the generation of free cash flows that are attributable to the owners of the organization which might either be reinvested or used to pay out dividends to the shareholders. The owner’s earnings, in essence, are the net income that takes into account all the investing activities and adds back all the non-cash items to the net income. The final answer indicates the ability of the firm to generate cash from the investment made by the shareholders in terms of equity.

There’s a charge to apply for a Belize visa, and the cost varies depending on the visa you’re applying for.

Visas allow you up to a 30-day visit, but if you want to stay longer, you can apply for an extension – a ‘Belize Visitor’s Permit Extension’ – so you can stay for 60, 90, or even 180 days. The cost of each extension is BZ$200.

You can apply for your Belizean visa via your home country’s consulate or a travel agent, and your visa must be approved and issued before you arrive in Belize.
