Uganda is located in East Africa and is most famous for gorilla tracking. Over half of the world’s remaining gorillas are found inside the Bwindi National Park. You will however have to trek through the forest and steep rocks accompanied by your your tour guide in order to spot these endangered mountain gorillas. Kibale National Park is another attractive site where you will view the big chimpanzees including other primates like the baboons, monkeys, colobus and bush babies. Watching the chimpanzees walking slowly as they take care of the young ones just like humans is very interesting.
Uganda has about 52 tribes and a very strong cultural heritage. These tribes have their own kingdoms such as Buganda, Bunyoro, Ankole, Toro, Busoga and among others. Each tribe has it’s own culture, life style and also it’s own traditional dance styles. The people of Uganda are welcoming and have a remarkable hospitality over the past years. Wildlife in Uganda has increased over the past years due to the good protection of game parks and reserves from human destruction. There are various attraction sites including River Nile, Rwenzori mountains, Murchison Falls Park, wildlife viewing and bird watching.
Queen Elizabeth National Park is rich in game viewing such as monkeys, buffaloes, bush pigs, bush bucks, lions, elephants, hyenas and the antelopes. This park borders lake George and lake Edward. This park has about 600 bird species making it the best attractive site for bird watchers in the country. The birds you will watch include eagles, falcons and 11 different species of kingfisher. A safari to this park will be interesting in both game viewing and bird watching. Other attractive parks include Semuliki National Park and MT. Elgon National Park which is at the border of Kenya and Uganda. This mountain is an extinct volcano with the largest surface area (50km by 80km) compared to any other extinct volcano in the world.
Murchison Falls National Park is the largest park in Uganda with the highest wildlife concentration. This park has a mixture of Savannah grass land, swamp land and riparian forest. Here, you will be able to view the lions, elephants, hyenas, giraffe, buffaloes, Uganda kob and the leopards. As you drive upstream to the fall of river Nile, you will have a good view a large number of crocodiles, hippos and many water birds. You will also see many elephants and buffaloes drinking water along the river. The local people will entertain you with music and dance while the elders will narrate stories of their origin, beliefs and myths.
