The Big Picture In Greyhound Racing

Can you imagine if every camera, yes even the ones on your phone, only showed you the very center of your pictures? What if a 5X7 only showed you the center 2X3? I suspect you wouldn’t be satisfied with your picture. It would also be safe to say you would never really know what is happening in the picture since you are only seeing such a small portion of it.

Greyhound handicapping is the same way. You need to see the entire picture! But how can you do this? I have a few suggestions.

Understand that your goal is to make money, not pick a winner. It takes most greyhound players a long time to understand this concept. If you can adapt it quickly, your game will improve quickly.

Don’t just look at the past lines of a greyhound. You should see them and try to understand them. Ask yourself questions. Why did this greyhound fade from first to worst? Why did this greyhound break 8th? Why did this greyhound blow the turn? If you can answer questions about the past lines of greyhounds then you will be in a better position to use them to predict today’s race.

See the entire card. Don’t make the mistake of having tunnel vision and only looking at each race as it comes. You should look at the entire racing program and spend time on every race. By doing this you can break the races down into categories of most playable to least playable. If the first 5 races are really difficult and don’t offer you much chance of winning a profit you should be waiting until later in the program to make your large wagers. You can still make smaller wagers on these tough races but you always want to put most of your money into races you think you have the best chance of winning.

Take the time to look at more than the last 6 lines. The standard program offers you 6 past racing lines. Twenty years ago you really didn’t have much choice for anything else. But today everything is only and easily accessible. There is software that will show you the last 40 lines of the race! There are also website that will show you all of a greyhound’s past lines and video of it’s races as well!

A player with tunnel vision is a losing player. To have the greatest chance of success you want to see the big picture!
