Is Sixth Sense A Boon Or Bane?

The thinking or reasoning capacity of human beings is known by the familiar name ‘Sixth Sense’ which distinguishes the man from animals. Man has made tremendous advancements in all frontiers: he even devised the methods of self-destruction such as chemical, biological and nuclear warfare. Yet, no foolproof measures are invented to protect from the natural disasters like tsunami, earthquake and so on. Of late, the sixth sense has taken a new avatar as ‘Artificial Intelligence.’ Nevertheless, the powers of the human brain remain to be revealed fully. Remarkable benefits have accrued from this special faculty of the brain. The following attributes of sixth sense affect the human life.

Self-Pride and Greed: For any achievement or special quality possessed, a person feels high and happy about himself. When the frequency of such occasions increases, he develops a mentality to dominate and control others. Some aspire to be a leader within short time solely relying on their ego, but without sincere efforts. When the self-pride manifests as ego, a person behaves abnormally inciting hatred and enmity of others.

Independence: Human mind prefers individual identity and liberty for development and happiness. Any reasonable soul dislikes slavery and poverty. Free will to do anything, anywhere and anytime is considered to be the absolute freedom as it leads to the unhindered expressions and actions. However, any independence regulated by moral values is desirable. The paradox is that man sets the boundaries and rules to regulate the movement across the limited lands.

Disregard for Nature: New horizons like science and technology are possible through the expanding power of sixth sense. Indiscriminate manipulation and tampering of the nature are done through techniques like Cloning, Hybrids, Genetic engineering and Test-tube baby. Man indulges in artificial embellishment like cosmetics, jewelry, plastic surgery, etc. He cares more for concealing the age through drugs and plastic surgery. Domestication of animals and birds is made to serve the selfish ends.

Humor: Reasoning power helps in admiring the lighter side of life also, but many people live seriously. At times, they hate humor itself as preoccupied with so many engagements. Human mind worries too much and wishes for quicker results.

Suspension: Our mind gets stuck when facing situations of complexity and urgency. When held up in a traffic jam, we get frustrated and start grumbling about the poor traffic management. The mind goes empty temporarily and fails to find any alternative routes to reach the destination.

Conscience: The soul of man’s morality resides in the sixth sense only. It’s the inner voice that alerts the human to avoid mistakes and move in the right direction. This quality, in fact, differentiates man from the animal.

Even animals possess the sixth sense to a limited extent. Siberian birds make a summer trip to other countries. Birds enjoy the freedom of visiting any place of their choice; that too, without any restrictions like passport or visa. Why do human beings take pride in the Sixth sense which is used for curtailing his own freedom!
