Blame AT&T greed for me having to part with my Blackberry Storm. It hurts. Now that I have switched to Sprint’s $69.99 per month for unlimited everything, and my unlocked Blackberry Storm won’t work on the Sprint network, I had to get a different phone from Sprint.
Then it dawned on me: It was not enough to yank my SIM card from the Blackberry; I still had many contacts on the phone’s hard drive. And I didn’t want all that information in the wrong hands, especially when I was thinking of giving my the Blackberry to my daughter, to my son, selling it or recycling it. Whichever choice I made, I needed to erase all data from the phone.
If you have a reason to erase data from your Blackberry Storm, here are the simple steps – the process is called a Wipe as in “wipe clean”.
- Press the Menu button with the blackberry logo.
- From your Blackberry’s home screen, select Options.
- Scroll down and select Security Options.
- Select Security Wipe.
- Select the Data option or whatever the equivalent is. If you used your phone for emails and want to erase Emails, Contacts, etc, check that box too.
- Press menu button to select Show Keyboard.
- Type the word blackberry in the text box, and press the return.
- Click Wipe.
I am not certain if this process works on other Blackberry models. If you have a model other than the Storm, you may want to check the user’s manual or check the Blackberry website for online help.
