Fielding’s Tom Jones is the story of a foundling whom Nature has endowed with physical beauty and happy vitality. But the young Tom did not always act rightly, so that he seems to be something like an unheroic hero. He acts on impulse, sometimes well, sometimes ill, and he lacks a settled kind of duty. It was a case of his seeing and approving the higher, and following the lower, impulses. His sexual escapades are morally outrageous.

But although Tom sins a number of times in the heat of his blood, his heart is in the right place. In his sexual adventures with Molly Saegrim, Jenny Waters and the lady of Bellaston, these women were the seducers and Tom the seduced. Besides, though Tom is a rake, Fielding finds Tom’s happy animality preferable to other graver sins like malice, cruelty, meanness and hypocrisy. He took the word “repentance” and he added just one letter, “p.” His new word was “prepentance.” Since no one had ever used this word before he used one of his broadcasts to explain it to everyone listening.

He said that everyone would have to make certain decisions about how they will live their lives. Then he said that some decisions are better than other decisions. For example, generally, quick decisions are not as good as, well thought out decisions. A quick decision, made under pressure is usually even worse. He said it is a whole lot easier to make a decision in advance than it is to wait for when someone offers you a drink of liquor or a cigarette to smoke or to do some illegal drugs.

He said prepentance could work for many other decisions too, including how you will use your new time this New Year. Although everyone has time because that is, what life is made up with. Few people understand time. Why is that? It is because time is merely a thought or an idea, a concept. Time only exists in the human mind.

It is convenient to think of time divided into three parts-past, present, and future. Until a few days ago the year 2009 was in the future. What do we know about our own individual future? We know practically nothing! It exists primarily in our imagination. In our imaginings of things to come, some of us have hopes of the way we would like them to be, but that’s not prepentance, is it? Those who are stronger have desires, but that’s not prepentance, either. Those who are stronger have intensions, and that’s not prepentense. Those who are stronger still have objectives and plans. Since objectives and plans come from decisions then they are a form of prepentance.

Objectives and plans for this year of 2009 can be based upon our knowledge of past events (our own or those of others). As humans, we feel that we can mold our future by what we think and do in each moment of the present. The “present” is a collection, an ever-flowing stream of thoughts and feelings in one’s mind. The “past” is only a multitude of thoughts and pictures stored up, usually in a disorderly fashion, in the mind and especially in the memory, about what happened to oneself and other people, to things, places and events. Your past is different from my past, and both of our pasts differ from those of every other being who ever lived, or will live.

Prepentance is the pre-remedy. You’ll never have to feel as sad as Alexander Pope’s words describe if you choose to use prepentance as the way you think and do now or how you choose to make use of your time. We can manage ourselves this way, and not worry about how we spend our time. Where is our time leading us? Through prepenting, by choosing what we think and do, it can lead us progressively and surely towards the ends that we have selected for ourselves. Prepenting can bring us to the most enduring personal satisfaction and prevent pains due to unnecessary loss.

You are superior to the average person. You think and act continuously in a special way. You have made certain good habits (those that lead you to your goals) that have become second nature. You are altogether dropping certain bad habits (those that would lead you away from your goals). Yes, you are prepenting! Time is a series of opportunities to do the things you want to do, to move you toward the things you want.

If you aren’t going anywhere and don’t want anything, it doesn’t make much difference what you do with your time. Therefore, as much of your waking time as possible should be spent thinking about your goals and moving toward them. Only when that is your mode of operation will the future be overflowing with satisfaction, rather than regret. Use this basic thought as motivation to seek out and read many good books and surround yourself with people who can support your best objectives and plans for the New Year.

Remember that the precious gift of time can only improve based upon with the results we want to get out of it. We can decide how we shall spend (or if we are wise, invest) each minute and hour as it comes-as long as it keeps coming (we never know when it will run out). Wasted time cannot be recaptured. Adopt (if you haven’t already) an attitude of prepentance or, at least, choose to seek satisfaction bringing objectives and plans in your use of time.

Dear friends’ Australian team, despite having world’s best batsmen and bowlers, as observed struggling to get a run to inch their team towards victory. Has Hogg waited a little more with ball to follow probably, it would have been the ever best Cricket match of the World even bigger than Ashes. The interest in tri series was generated through proxy mouth batting when daily Australian media came out with a new allegation or charge against ace Indian spinner Bhaaji, Harbhajan Singh. These charges though were very distractive during initial days, but it gave a motive to Bhaajji whose aim became superb spell of bowling during both the finals at Sydney and Brisbane.

A victory after nearly 22 years on Australian land by Indian cricketers has broken the proud and arrogant attitude of Australian Cricket team specially Rickey who had exhibited regularly his arrogant behavior with other countries players. The most unpopular welcome of Murli of Sri Lanka with flying eggs all over has shown dying spirit of cricket amongst Australian cricket lovers. It was more off hatred farewell sendoff rather than sweet home welcome.

There were moments when over 80 millions Indian watching the match has their last breadths arrested when Hogg pulled off a ball over fence and reduced the gap between balls and runs from 40 to 26. Why I called it a wise defeat because the real defeat was already accepted by Australian skipper a day prior of commencing final matches. He has by and large exhibited through his behavior and conduct that fear of losing series is looming large. This fear never brought smile of Rickey’s face ever in either of the finals match. His forced compliments to Dhoni’s tigers were something like pulling out words from his mouth.

Rickey’s conduct and manner of extending complements to Dhoni for winning Tri-series, was not like a good sportsman. He infact had to learn to be a good social human as well. The war of words which they play before every match series needs to put a break in future. More over the umpires dwindling decisions in very clear outs also doubt their hidden nepotism towards Kangaroos.

And the Lord said, “Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his master will make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of food in due season? Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes. Truly, I say to you that he will make him ruler over all that he has. (Luke 12:42-44)

Many parables of Jesus speak about honor and reward. Jesus is a rewarder of people who do good work for Him. Some people would say that we are all equal in the Kingdom and that God doesn’t favor any one person over another. This is true. We’re all saved by the grace of God. We’re all saved through the blood of Jesus Christ that was shed on Calvary. But it seems that the Lord was saying here that those who have been faithful on earth, those who have been wise, those who have used what was entrusted to them on earth in the Kingdom of God wisely are going to be rewarded and made ruler over many other people and things.

As an example, let us take Sydney, Australia. We need one ruler over the whole city. But it is made up of many towns and each of the towns could do with a Mayor. Then, there are different functions in each of the towns. There are people in charge of the water, people in charge of electricity and people in charge of education. There are different positions within the town so there are many levels of responsibility in the society that we live in.

Granted that Jesus Christ is going to rule on earth for a thousand years, there’s going to be many positions of leadership in the new Kingdom. He’s going to have people who are faithful to Him in positions of leadership. If He gets someone to head over all the towns of Sydney city, he has to be someone who had a good administrative experience.

Often, people look at their life on earth and wonder whether it’s going to be used in heaven. People work in jobs that they love and can’t imagine themselves doing any other sort of job. This could be true. When you work on earth, you may do that job in heaven. Jesus was hinting at this. He said that He’ll make you ruler over many things if you’re faithful.

There are many positions up to be grabbed; positions available for the average person. Not everyone really will apply themselves on earth. Not everyone will live to the potential that God has set for His people on earth.

Jesus is not a hard taskmaster. He is a very encouraging person. He’s a person who allows you to develop your gifts naturally and then gives you more practical experience until you become proficient. Jesus is a person who promotes people through levels of authority. Not only will there be promotion in the Kingdom to come when Jesus reigns on earth, but there’s promotion in the Kingdom for those on earth today who prove themselves worthy. Some people prove that they are wise stewards of God’s money, resources, time and talents on earth. This isn’t just something for the future. If you look at people like Joyce Meyer, Benny Hinn, Joseph Prince and other preachers, you’ll find that they’ve been promoted to television ministries, book writing ministries, tapes and CD ministries and big convention ministries. They’ve got big and powerful ministries on earth today. They’ve been promoted and given much glory and power in today’s world.

These parables don’t have to be in future tense. Jesus preached the parables for a few reasons -as a promise of what’s going to happen in the future, but also for a practical day by day experience. I hope that you’re catching the practical application of this parable today.

But if that servant says in his heart, ‘My master is delaying his coming,’ and begins to beat the male and female servants, and to eat and be drunk, the master of that servant will come on a day when he is not looking for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the unbelievers. And that servant who knew his master’s will, and did not prepare himself or do according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. But he who did not know, yet committed things deserving of stripes, shall be beaten with few. For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more. (Luke 12:45-48)

I have to say in conclusion, this being the last parable, that all the stripes are avoidable. While growing up, you knew as a child that your father or mother might say to you, if you come home after 11:00, there will be a beating. If you steal any of the cookies in the jar that are for our visitors today, I’ll give you a beating. As you grew up, you were given definite boundaries. And at times that you get in trouble with, you get beaten with a strap. You, as a child, don’t have to get that strap. You don’t have to get that beating. You can avoid the beating by doing what your mother or father says.

So, too, with this parable; I believe that a Christian doesn’t need to have a beating off Jesus Christ. But I know that there’s punishment for people who are in this world doing things that are not nice. People who are using and abusing others to get rich, people who are getting drunk, people who are doing all sorts of bad things in this world will be punished one day in a place called hell.

But everyone’s got the opportunity to come to know Jesus and do things the right way. I’m not saying that Christians always do things the right way. But the difference between a Christian and a non-Christian is that he’s got a God that forgives him. He’s got a God that can lead him.

We can sum up the application of this last passage in this: To the ones that have been given a lot of opportunity, much would be expected from them; to those who have been given little opportunity, much less will be expected from those people. Like a mother and father, these stripes can be avoided. Our legal system has those consequences. But some people seem to beat the legal system and they don’t end up with punishment on this earth. Well, believe me, if you don’t confess Jesus and give your life to Him, there would be punishment in a place to come for every bad thing that’s been committed on earth.

Women have good reason to be enraged yet we tend to be the last ones to acknowledge this vibrant inner resource. Instead, we go through our lives maintaining a good front. We may have all of the trappings-good life, higher education, and material gain, yet we have an inherent discontent with our lives that won’t go away. We manage to look okay from the outside, hiding those periods of despair when we feel everything caving in on us by keeping to ourselves. We express confidence on the surface and feel dread or fear underneath. We know we feel chaotic and on the edge, but we hide it, sometimes beautifully, even from ourselves. This is accomplished by wearing Disguises of Rage.

Disguises are our inner rage child’s armor-the coats we wear year round to cope with the chill of life, even on a warm day. They are our ways to be in control of a chronically frightening life and are symbolic templates of older stories of rage that require our attention. They have played a significant role in our survival but they interfere with our authentic presence in the world. We continue to wear our disguises because we perceive these obscure expressions of rage as being safer and more acceptable than truth itself.

My research reveals six Disguises of Rage(TM) worn by high functioning women:

o Dominance-you are highly critical and judgmental, controlling your world to avoid being controlled by it, and keeping others at arm’s length to avoid your terror of needing them.

o Defiance-you are perpetually angry and use anger to divert your need for love and approval, often from those who disturb you. You use anger to avoid intimacy with the truth of now.

o Distraction-you never have a minute, filling your time with self-defeating diversions to avoid intolerable feelings of emptiness, and to avoid the terror of occupying and resting in your body.

o Devotion-you take perfect care of others often sacrificing your own truth and well being to avoid knowing and receiving the care you desire and often secretly deserve.

o Dependence-you deny your own personal power staying financially insecure and emotionally young out of your fear of losing support and affiliation with others.

o Depression-you seldom have the energy to do what’s best for you yet serve others well. You live a down-hearted lifestyle to shut down overwhelming feelings of grief and disappointment.

These categories are not intended to simplify or categorize our complex lives. Rather they are attempts to reveal our deceptions of rage and to invite us to reexamine what might ordinarily be considered normal or justified behavior.

Disguises keep us from experiencing the pure nature of rage. When we don’t allow this experience, we can’t heal it. Rage should not be understood as a useless emotion-empty of knowledge or wisdom. Rather rage is intense fear-oppressed energy housed deep in our bodies and our bone. Rage is the daughter of our traumas, twin of our shame, burden of our denied histories, foreign language of our emotional pain, AND the wisdom that helps us heal.

Of course, allowing yourself to feel the pure energies of rage does not mean you run amuck justifying your expression of rage. Healing rage is a process of gradually appreciating-through experiences and practice-that we are much more than what has happened to us in our lives. My Celebration of Rage(TM) and Generational Healing(TM) retreats offer experiences to transcend rage. Fundamentally, we are challenged with becoming reacquainted with our basic goodness and life purpose. This requires that we give up what is familiar behavior (our disguises), rest in the richness of our current lives, and commit ourselves to choices that support our healing. We break our loyalty to suffering and stop over-identifying with our fears. We learn how to rest in the space in between our worries while cultivating an open heart, and we become less reliant on our disguises of rage and more aware of the wisdom behind them. For example:

o The Wisdom of Defiance is Truth Telling-the ability to courageously speak the truth from the heart without intent to hate or harm.
