Classical Fencing: Drawing the Foil

In previous articles in this series I have described First Position, the basic body position from which flows the salute and the coming on guard in classical fencing. So far, I have identified three variants, the most common, with the blade held to the front, one appropriate for sabre with the broadsword or sabre resting on the forward shoulder, and an Italian variant with the blade held on the inside with the point to the rear. Now it is time to consider the First Position in which the blade is not held in the weapon, but rather with the unarmed hand.

In 1883 George H. Benedict (Manual of Boxing, Club Swinging and Manly Sports) describes a First Position as part of a sequence leading to a simulated draw of the foil transitioning into a salute:

  • The weapon arm foot is pointed forward toward the opponent with the rear foot pointed at 90 degrees to the inside and drawn up close so that the heel touches the forward foot.
  • The legs are straight and the torso upright, the hips drawn slightly back and turned to the inside at approximately a 45 degree angle.
  • The head is erect and facing the opponent.
  • The arms hang loosely by the sides, with the non-dominant hand holding foil loosely by the rear hip.
  • To draw the sword, the fencer bends the forward arm at the elbow, carrying the hand in supination across the body to grasp the grip of the foil thumb down.
  • Both hands are separated as they are raised above the head, ending with the non-weapon hand holding the button of the foil. This drawing of the weapon then transitions into the salute.

Regis and Louis Senac’s The Art of Fencing (first published in 1904 and reprinted as late as 1926) pictures a similar sequence for drawing the foil:

  • The body is held as described by Benedict, with the exception that the foil is held in the non-dominant hand at the top of the hip with the arm bent and the elbow to the rear at waist level.
  • The fencer extends the weapon arm upward at approximately a 45 degree angle, palm open, thumb upward. This is described as a salute.
  • The weapon arm is brought back to grasp the grip of the weapon, elbow to the outside, and forearm across the body at waist level.
  • The arm is then extended drawing the blade out of the imaginary scabbard and swinging forward into a full extension of the arm and blade, again at a 45 degree upward angle directly to the front. This becomes the start of the transition into the guard.

It is important to note that, like the multiple steps of coming on guard practiced in a number of variations in the classical period, drawing the foil from an imaginary scabbard in and of itself performs no technically useful fencing function. However, it should not be dismissed out of hand. It forms part of a ceremony of polite recognition that the opponent is worthy and honors fencing as an activity, something that was valued in the classical period. That is not all; a smartly executed sequence conveys to the opponent that you are skilled opponent in a subtle bit of psychological warfare. Finally, the ritual serves a valuable purpose in helping to focus and center the fencer on the imminent task of fighting the bout.

Manchurian Candidates and Gang Stalking

Organized gang stalking is also called predatory gang stalking (predator vs. prey). The prey is sometimes killed – reality! This system has a structure very similar to multi-level marketing, a hierarchical structure in the pyramid fashion.

It is much more loosely affiliated than ‘pyramid’ networks but the organization of many boots on the ground, less community organizers, and a few ‘godfathers’ at the top is obvious.

The assaults and attacks come in a myriad of ways but can be identified primarily in three aspects. The first and most obvious is the direct intervention into the target’s life by physical presence or simply, the stalking.

The second aspect is the indirect assaults that are executed by negatively affecting all elements of the targets connection to society including financial, medical, educational, career, or anything that would have a paper trail. This aspect involves the character assassination by way of falsification of records and slander to all who have been, are, and will likely be associated with the target including the closest family and friends.

The third aspect is an evolution into a more hideous evil from a historical perspective and is due to the advent and availability of lethal and non-lethal directed energy weapons. This aspect of organized gang stalking is called electronic harassment. This alone is a topic unto itself due to the unimaginable dimensions and technological capabilities of today’s electronic weaponry.

If you’re unfamiliar with electronic harassment caused by directed energy weapons, here are links to sources to acquire directed energy weapons. This is to emphasize the validity of the activity by the mere existence of the weapons. Why these products (weapons) are not outlawed speaks to the government’s involvement in this humanitarian crime. Directed Energy Professional Society and Amazing1

Continuing, a high level of involvement from secret societies, fraternities, cults, and clubs is the backbone. Freemasonry and other “white masonry” clubs (beer/cigar/do-gooder clubs) as well as unions, fraternities, and cults indoctrinate unsuspecting individuals into gang stalking using peer pressure.

From this mid-level operating force, community organizers, recruiters, and messengers spread their tentacles into municipal governments, businesses, schools, churches, and any other group or willing and naive participant that will join. Instead of street-corner peddlers pushing drugs, these perpetrators deal in lies, character assassination, sabotage, and assault – both physical and psychological.

The modern-day cell phone, with all of its technological capabilities, provides for real-time information sharing on a targets whereabouts, destination, appearance, and ‘value.’ Considering today’s availability and access to cell phones, anyone with a cell phone can be recruited into organized gang stalking from senior citizens to grade school age children. Many involved parents will use their own children as assistants and role players in “perping” a target.

Local emergency professionals as well as postal, shipping, and utility workers, combined with neighbors, work associates, and family – yes, family – can make life a living hell for an individual considered an “undesirable” in the community. The victim now has to navigate society and a system of stalkers like a harbor seal swimming in shark-infested waters. This system has been perfected into the ideal killing mechanism with silent kill, slow kill, and soft kill being fitting terms. In its entirety, outright murder, but in its sinister application, it escapes prosecution by plausible deniability.

A slow death by assassination from co-conspirators is achieved by a continuous stream of “soft” blows to both the individual’s body and mind as well as his/her environment. Defamation by slander, isolation by rejection, demoralization by bullying, destabilization by unemployment, and despair by complete poverty and loneliness.

Many victims fall into the psychiatric institution

Many victims fall into the psychiatric institution while others are provoked to rage and are incarcerated. Then of course suicide often follows despair and these numbers as well as the those of incarceration or institutionalization are kept suppressed or categorized by some excepted diagnostic title such as schizophrenia.

Finally, there are a few who are used as Manchurian candidates to fuel the gun control agenda and other invasive government initiatives. Aaron Alexis, Jared Loughner, and possibly James Holmes (he seemed cooperative) and Adam Lanza (perhaps the victim of a diabolical government propaganda stunt ).

Basically, the onslaught of psychological attacks is trauma-based mind control. So some of these individuals fall into the hands of CIA-connected psychiatrist who then phase in the element of psychotropic medication to create the optimum mind-controlled slave or ‘Manchurian candidate.

God’s Love – Battle Weapon for a Sure Victory

I have prayed for years and God has not yet answered. This faith stuff, is it really working? Many people who had the same challenge, but for a shorter period, have shared their testimonies; do I really believe? These thoughts and many more may have crossed your mind and you are wondering how to stay on in faith till you experience your victory. This article gives you the battle weapon to use, which is God’s love.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son…” John 3:16 (KJV) Also Romans 8:32 (KJV) says, “He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?” Furthermore, Isaiah 49:15 (KJV) says, “Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.”

The scriptures above make it clear that God loves us and that He will give us all things without any charge. To buttress His level of love for us, He compared it with the love of a mother. It is very difficult for a mother to forget her sucking child. And God says that even if a woman does forget her own child, He Himself will NEVER forget His own child.

Therefore, no matter the challenge, remember God’s love for you. It is a battle weapon to use when the enemy is flooding your thoughts with doubts. The mind is the battle field, win in your mind and victory is yours. So when these thoughts come, open your mouth and declare that God will grant your heart desire according to His word because He loves you. The enemy, the devil, cannot stand words declared in faith, Luke 21:15.

Our earthly fathers will always give their children what they want as long as it is good for them and they have it to give. Even if the father does not immediately have it to give the child, he will plan how to do so in the near future. Like earthly fathers, God wants to give us our heart desires. The good news is that God ALWAYS has it all to give. All He wants is for us to stand in faith until we see the manifestation of our desire.

Can you imagine a father refusing to give his son that he loves what he really needs? If your answer is NO then be assured that your heavenly father much more cannot do so. Matthew 7:11 says, “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?”

God’s love as a battle weapon enables you to fight all doubts. An understanding of your heavenly Father’s love for you will help you believe that what God said He will certainly do. He can’t watch His child being reproached by a challenge and not do something about it. Delay is not denial and God will make all things work together for your good.

When I was reproached by childlessness, all manner of thoughts went through my mind for many years. But each time such thoughts came, one battle weapon I always employed was God’s love for me. Sometimes I wouldn’t be sure of my faith in any other thing but I would be of God’s love for me. I believed His love will show me mercy and grant me my heart desire and I declared it to myself and others whenever I had the opportunity to do so. I didn’t know how He was going to do it but I was sure His love will do it for me all the same.

This assurance enabled me to go through twelve years of childlessness with joy and peace. It strengthened me and even drew me closer to God. I had strong hope that I would certainly be a joyful mother of children. Today I am a mother. My father did not fail me and He will not fail you either. No matter the challenge, employ this battle weapon and victory will be yours.

The Peace Movement

A peace movement is a social movement that seeks to achieve ideals such as the ending of a particular war (or all wars), minimize inter-human violence in a particular place or type of situation, including ban of guns, and is often linked to the goal of achieving world peace. Means to achieve these ends include advocacy of pacifism, non-violent resistance, diplomacy, boycotts, demonstrations, peace camps; supporting anti-war political candidates and banning guns, creating open government, direct democracy; supporting people who expose war-crimes or conspiracies to create wars, and making laws. Different organizations involved in peace movement may have some diverse goals, but one common goal is sustainability of peace.

Peace movement is basically an all-encompassing “anti-war movement”. It is primarily characterized by a belief that human beings should not wage war on each other or engage in violent conflicts over language, race, natural resources, religion or ideology. It is believed that military power is not equivalent of justice. The peace movement tends to oppose the proliferation of dangerous technologies and weapons of mass destruction, in particular, nuclear weapons and biological warfare. Moreover, many object to the export of weapons including hand-held machine guns and grenades by leading economic nations to lesser developed nations.

The first peace movement appeared in 1815-1816. The first such movement in the United States was the New York Peace Society, founded in 1815 by the theologian David Law Dodge, and the Massachusetts Peace Society. It become an active organization, holding regular weekly meetings, and producing literature which was spread as far as Gibraltar and Malta, describing the horrors of war and advocating pacifism on Christian grounds. The London Peace Society (also known as the Society for the Promotion of Permanent and Universal Peace) was formed in 1816 to promote permanent and universal peace by the philanthropist William Allen. In the 1840s, British women formed ‘Olive Leaf Circles’ groups of around 15 to 20 women, to discuss and promote pacifist ideas. The peace movement began to grow in influence by the mid-nineteenth century. The London Peace Society, under the initiative of American consul to Birmingham, Elihu Burritt, and the Reverened Henry Richard, convened the first International Peace Congress in London in 1843. The congress decided on two aims: the ideal of peaceable arbitration in the affairs of nations and the creation of an international institution to achieve that.

Afterwards, peace organizations were set up in many countries. The United Nations was founded with the primary objective to maintain peace and resolve inter-state conflicts in the world. Many treaties have been signed between many nations, a noteworthy one of which is the nuclear non-proliferation treaty. Everyone wants peace and likes principles of non-violence.

Different Styles of the Martial Arts – Naginatajutsu and Bojutsu

Bojutsu

Dating back thousands of years, bojutsu was probably a battlefield martial art, used for training troops.

It was adopted by the police in the Edo period (1603-1868) and it is likely that this influenced many of the techniques in existence today, most notably those aimed not at killing, but rather at harming or restraining unruly prisoners. Interestingly, the development of stick techniques on the battlefield probably came about as a result of warriors having to improvise if the bladed part of a weapon such as the halberd was lost in battle.

Improvised weaponry

Fighting with just the bladeless staff became popular in Okinawa as a stand-alone art form in its own right during the period when the carrying of metal-edged weapons was outlawed.

Many of the grips, thrusts, block parries, sweeps, and deflecting movements were developed among the peasants of Okinawa. It is most likely that the original weapon was the “tenbin,” a long wooden pole that was balanced on the shoulders and used to carry buckets containing either grain or water.

Naginatajutsu

The naginata, a long pole with a blade at one end, is primarily associated with female samurai. It is often used in combination with the “tanto,” a traditional Japanese dagger.

Naginatajutsu competitions take place in Japan regularly. Most are held at high school and college level with students who often have little or no previous martial-arts training, but are interested in the female combat arts.

Weapon development

Although the origins of the weapon are unclear, some experts believe that it may have come about as a result of Japanese warriors altering the design of the Chinese halberd, an infantry weapon that is similar in nature but with a slightly wider blade. Others believe that it developed independently as a modified farming implement. The theory is that samurais returning home from battle found that a longer weapon, fitted with a blade similar to that of a samurai sword, was useful for fighting against cavalrymen, since the length kept t fighter at a reasonable distance from the horse.

Shintaido

Unlike competitive fighting arts, shintaido is a system of movement based on the principles of martial arts and contemporary performing arts. Its underlying philosophy is peace, harmony, cooperation, and the understanding of the individual and his or her place in nature.

During the 1960s, its founder, Hiroyuki Aoki, formed a group of around 30 people, including some of Japan’s top martial-arts instructors, as well as musicians, actors, and artists of all ages, and set about creating his new art.

Pushing the boundaries

Without knowing exactly what they were looking for, the group, known as “ratutenkai” or “meeting of optimists,” practiced together, testing the limits of physical and psychological strength. Out of that movement, shintaido was born, incorporating elements of sword work, and martial and performance arts, alongside a number of esoteric practices. The system is famed for its freezing waterfall training. During the winter participants endure this regime for up to 15 minutes, often experiencing the early stages of hypothermia, which is said to lead to an awakening of spirituality and the development of a sixth sense.

Hiroyuki Aoki was born in Yokahama, Japan, in 1936. He was an actor, painte and 5th-degree black-belt master (the highest level) of shotokai karate. A devout Christian, in 1965 he set out to create a new martial art designed to encourage peace and communication, and provide a new way to experience nature and the spiritual world.

Counter Attack – The Best Female Self Defense Technique In Silat

Silat is one of the best martial arts in Asia. It is the official self defense in Malaysia. Many international martial artists visit Malaysia to learn and master this unique martial art either using the traditional or upgraded system. Silat also is known as the best female self defense system in martial arts. Many peoples learn Silat to protect themselves against villains. Thus, it is important for female silat exponents to know their strength and weakness during silat training to determine the best technique that suite them particularly, in emergency situation.

There are many deadly techniques in silat. Striking techniques such as rejam (straight punch), sauk (uppercut), siku (elbow strike), lutut (knee strike), tendang (front kick), depak (side kick) and kacip (hand break strike) are very powerful and can hurt the opponent in no time. However, there is one silat technique that is very powerful and suite with female physiology structure that known as counter attack. It is the technique to strike the opponents or attackers while they are not expecting any resilient fight from their victim. The strike can be with or without a weapon which aimed to several killer points in human body such as eye, neck, stomach, private part, ear, ribs, jaw and back of the head.

Usually, if you are the victim in any emergency situation, you need to stay cool and follow the instructions of the attacker while being disturbed or attacked by him or her. At the same time, you need to look to the surrounding situations in order to known when and where to act especially when the attacker does not pay much attention to you. Thus, it is important for female exponents to carry some unexpected ‘weapons’ with them every time they go out such as pen, nail cutters, book, bun, keys and multi-purpose knife which can act as a weapon to attack during the emergency situation.

Nevertheless, it is important to every woman to learn female self defense technique in order to protect themselves from being a victim in group attack. Normally, during the silat training session, the guru will explain the details of the counter attack technique of group attack, the psychology control of the emergency situation, and how to determine the right time to attack. The female exponents will train how to stay calm in a fight, how to fight multiple attackers (more than 3 opponents) and also how to react with weapon strike in a fight. This training is called as ‘Tekong’. Tekong training is important particularly to fight with multiple attackers that armed with weapons. Thus, female exponents need to fight with different opponent with different height, weight and size during the silat training in order to get use with the emergency situation.

Female self defense is a must learn education for every girl and woman. Thinking about the world we live today, no one is immune to violence attack. It is better to be aware and prepared before it is too late.

The Importance of the Class 3 FFL License

There are three primary classes of Federal Firearms Licenses, The Class 3 FFL License being the most prominent and three variants of those. It is important that you apply for the right one for your particular needs. The primary licenses are as follows:

Class 1 – This is for the importers of National Firearms Act guns, explosives, and other destructive devices. This would not be what the average person would need for their small business.

Class 2 – This is for the manufacturers and dealers from the factory standpoint. Companies who make weapons for the masses would need this, not the person who is buying for resale.

Class 3 – This license is for the person who buys and sales weapons including full automatics, silencers, and other destructive devices. This is the class that your local gun shop owner carries. If you acquire a Class 3 license, you do not have to have a storefront to buy and sell, and you save the $200 tax stamp you have to pay for every gun purchase you make.

Owning a gun dealer’s license is fairly inexpensive, and there are no requirements of how much, if any, product you must buy to keep the license active. When you apply for the Class 3 FFL License, you should know how you plan to use it.

If you are planning to open a gun shop, you will need to have procured or leased the space prior to the visit by the Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco, and Explosives. If you choose to get your license to use from your home, it is simpler, but you will need to have your home ready for the ATF visit, too.

What are the advantages of possessing a Class 3 FFL License? The most important are:

  • The savings from the direct purchase of guns and paraphernalia – You only pay 70% of the cost you would pay if you bought from a gun shop. If you expect to buy guns on an ongoing basis, you should save enough on purchases to cover the licensing fee.
  • Buying gun dealer samples or even making them for a fraction of the cost of the retail product – Building your own saves you a great deal over what you would pay for manufactured guns like automatics and machine guns. If you choose to resell what you make, you have an opportunity to make serious money doing so.
  • You can purchase accessories for weapons – Some people make a good side income from selling silencers and gun stands among other products.

Should I Apply?

Everyone who applies does not necessarily get a Class 3 FFL License, and much of the reason they don’t is because they make critical mistakes in the application. If you attempt to get yours without any guidance, it can be a confusing and daunting task. We recommend you seek the advice of a Class 3 FFL License Guide and get your FFL License easily and effectively.

Video Game Review – Land Of The Dead – Road To Fiddler’s Green

On a remote farm in the country things are peaceful. Everything isn’t as it seems though. A stranger appears outside of your home; little do you know that he is one of the many walking dead. In a desperate struggle for survival you make your way to the one city still controlled by the living. The only thing standing between you and your goal are several thousand zombies and one very crappy game brought to you by our friends at Grove Games. This review is based on the PC version of the game, though it is available on the original Xbox as well.

Graphics: 6.5/10

The best way to describe the graphics of this game is “ok”. Not great but not terrible. The zombies are well animated and detailed with huge chunks of flesh missing from them. The character movements are fluid and smooth. The weapons though are very bland and plain looking and there are some animation glitches. For example: the shot gun. No matter how many rounds you have left the animation stays the same. If you have 2 rounds left out of four and then you reload, it shows your character putting four shells in the gun.

Sound: 7.0/10

Ah, the sounds of zombies crawling around… beautiful. Too bad all the other sound effects are low quality at best. The voice acting is horrible and at times it even sounds like the actors are half asleep. The greatest disappointment is the weapon sounds. Not all of them are terrible, but most of them are. The sound of a baseball bat connecting with a zombie’s skull is music to my ears and the other melee weapons sound equally as cheery. However the guns in the game sound weak and pathetic.

Artificial Intelligence: 5.0/10

Zombies are dumb, that’s a fact of life but this is just sad. I’m standing on top of a car shooting at a zombie and it doesn’t even react. The zombies around it just stand there even though I am in plan view in front of them. Only when I actually engage the zombies back on the ground do they go into attack mode. Sometimes I even stand on the ground right in front of a zombie and it won’t attack me until I shoot it once first.

Multiplayer: 7.0/10

It’s hard to connect to a server to play land of the dead. It’s even harder to find decent people to play with but once you do and download some “modded” content, this game’s online play really shines. Nothing like trying to kill someone while trying not to be eaten by zombies.

Overall Score: 6.5/10

The game is not horrible but it does suffer a lot from its many flaws. If you’re a die hard zombie fan then pick up a copy (good luck finding one). If not then don’t waste your time. There are a few communities out there dedicated to “modding” and improving the game with better weapons and online maps which makes the game much more enjoyable but not anywhere near perfect.
