Existentialism – Predicting Existence

The term Existentialism means ‘pertaining to existence’ or logically ‘predicting existence’. In philosophy, the terms exist and existence denotes something active rather than passive and thus is closely dependent on the Latin root ex, ‘out’+ sistre from sastre ‘to stand’. Philosophically, existentialism applies to a vision of the condition and existence of man, his place and function in the world, and his relationship or lack of relationship with God. Existentialism is a philosophy that emphasizes the uniqueness and isolation of the individual experience in a hostile or indifferent universe, regards human existence as unexplainable, and stress freedom of choice and responsibility for the consequences of one’s act. It is the doctrine emphasizes difference between human existence and that of inanimate objects. Any kind of philosophic systems are all centered on the individual and his relationship to the universe or to God.

The notion is that humans exist first and then each individual spends a lifetime changing their essence and nature. Existentialism is the philosophy concerned with finding self and the meaning of life through free will, choice and personal responsibility. The people are searching throughout life to find out who are they and they make choice according to their experiences, beliefs and outlook.

An existentialist believes that a person should be force to choose and be responsible without the help of laws, ethnic rules or traditions. Important existentialists of varying and conflicting thought are Soren Kierkegaard, Karl Jaspers, Martin Heidegger, Gabriel Marcel and Jean Paul Sartre. All of the existentialists were against the traditional metaphysical approaches to man and his place in universe.

Soren Kierkegaard is credited with the founding of this branch of western philosophy. He is known as a Christian existentialist. Since he suggested the idea of absurd, leap of faith as a solution to the problems of human existence. But modern existentialists differ from him on this. Rather than advocating Kierkegaard’s Christianity as the resolution of the human predicament. Some contemporary existentialists gave doubts that there is any God to help us.

Sartre have insisted that Kierkegaard’s portrayal of man’s plight properly describes our situation, but reject the claim that the solution lies solely and completely in an act of belief in the decision to accept faith. Sartre was the only self-declared existentialist among the major thinkers. For Sartre the central idea of all existential thought is that existence precedes essence. According to Sartre there is no God and therefore no fixed human nature that forces one to act man is totally free and responsible for what he does.

The existentialist’s concern is not so much to understand the philosophical questions that interest the analytical philosophers, as in answering the question, how is man to live in this irrational meaningless world? Some of the existentialists feel that the answer lies in religious faith, in the manner of Kierkegaard and others like Sartre being atheists search for humanistic beliefs, ways of dealings with one’s experience so as to make life meaningful. In general the existentialists regard other philosophers either as wasting their time in defending intellectual systems, that are indefensible, or as refusing to face the real problems that confront mankind, and instead occupying themselves with unimportant concerns about language and logic, which cannot supply a solution to man’s predicament.

On the other hand, many philosophers regard the existentialists as having turned their backs on a rational examination of man’s world. According to some, the existentialists are more poets of a harrowing variety than serious thinkers.

Regardless of who is right or whether the existentialists are the one who are fulfilling the philosopher’s role, one can appreciate why they have so deeply influenced the contemporary intellectual life of Western Europe and are gradually making in roads in to the philosophical scene in England and America. The catastrophic collapse of Europe, the horrible experience of Nazi dictatorship and occupation of France has left people with a sense that their views and values are meaningless. The world in which every one has to live no longer seems susceptible to rational examination. Instead only arbitrary beliefs seem able to give a key to how to live in the face of an unintelligible universe.

Explaining the Unexplainable

For some time scientists all too often find it so hard to rationalize that certain mysteries like the Piri Reis Map always have to have man’s interpretation of known logical answers. There are many instances all through-out history that man has failed to fully understand how such an event, relic, or a sighting occurred.

To date man is still using their own known sources to explain what mankind is not yet capable of understanding. To theorize and hypothesize certain events, found relics, sightings and occurrences that by today’s intellectual capabilities seem unexplainable we always try to rationalize and convince ourselves there is always a known logical explanation. This happens all too often, when in reality we really aren’t fully capable of understanding these anomalies.

We seem to always fail to grasp that there is in this vast universe other intelligent life forms that just maybe have a much higher level of intellect and technology. As a result the known anomalies that have baffled scientists through the years they have always figured that these occurrences have a known logical explanation according to our known level of science and technology.

Mankind has to realize that we really aren’t the only intelligent life form in the entire universe. What is our realm of reality of know science and logic may not be the same in other worlds light years away. We have always assumed that such anomalies always have our know logical answers. We have yet to fully comprehend that we are not alone in this vast universe.

Explaining the unexplainable for us it is hard to fathom that through the ages humanity has been the beneficiary of other intelligent life forms. Is it so hard to grasp that there are other life forms that are more intelligent and have a higher level of technology than man has here on earth? Think about it. We are really are not alone in this vast universe.

Too many of our scientific community still today insist that the existence of historic anomalies have always had a logical explanation. In accordance with our known scientific knowledge the logical reasoning have always been the answers to how these anomalies occurred. And, until we accept the fact that the existence of extra terrestrial lifeforms exist and have in fact left their footprint here on earth we will always be limited. Limited by our own logic, our own rational, a base unacceptance of extra terrestrial life form existence and our fear of the unknown.

Can You Create the Life You Can Desire? The Law of Attraction Says Yes

Certainly you have heard about creating the life you desire, or about making a miracle for yourself…and, if you are like most people (including me) you were skeptical. Well, I decided to do the research.

In Esther and Jerry Hicks book, Ask and It Is Given – Learning to Manifest Your Desires, Abraham says, ” You are the vibrational writers of the script of your life-and everyone else in the Universe is playing the part that you have assigned to them. You can literally script any life that you desire, and the Universe will deliver to you the people, places, and events just as you decide them to be. For you are the creator of your own experience-you have only to decide it and allow it to be.”

In their book, Money, and the Law of Attraction-Learning Wealth, Health, and Happiness, Abraham says, with absolute clarity, “If this time-space reality has within it the ability to inspire a desire within you, it is absolute that this time-space reality has the ability to yield you a full and satisfying manifestation of that same desire. It is Law.”

Abraham describes the three universal laws:

1) The Law Of Attraction – That which is like unto itself is drawn. However you are feeling about all the situations of your life, all of your desires, creates in you a vibration and the Universe responds to that vibration. This law is always at work and there is nothing you can do about it. You cannot influence the Law of Gravity and you cannot influence the Law of Attraction…it simply is and it always works. Abraham says (in The Law of Attraction), “That which is like itself is drawn. The more you come to understand the power of the Law of Attraction, the more interest you will have in deliberately directing your thoughts–for you get what you think about, whether you want it or not!”

2) The Science of Deliberate Creation-The Law of Attraction attracts to you according to your vibrations. Through Deliberate Creation you create better feelings about your life about those things you have and those things you want and move into vibrational harmony with those things, so that you gain control of your life in accordance with the Law of Attraction. Also in The Law of Attraction, Abraham says, “That which I give thought to and that which I believe or expect — IS. If you will pay attention to the way that you are feeling, then a monitoring of your thoughts is not so necessary. Whenever you are feeling good, know that you are, in that moment, speaking, thinking, or acting in accordance with your intentions — and know that whenever you are feeling bad, you are not aligned with your intentions. In short, whenever there is negative emotion present within you, you are, in that moment, MISCREATING, either through your thought, your word, or your action. And so, the combination of being more deliberate about what you want, more clear about what you intend, and more sensitive to the way you feel is, in essence, what the Deliberate Creative Process is all about.”

3) The Art of Allowing – If we could just be the pure Source connected energy that is a part of all of us, we would naturally allow, and our desires would naturally manifest. We would allow ourselves into vibrational harmony with our desire and the Law of Attraction would visibly work immediately. We have learned, however, any number of ways to keep ourselves, because of our physicality, vibrationally out of alignment or harmony. The Art of Allowing is the way we allow and help ourselves to continually move up the emotional vibrational scale and move into vibrational harmony with our desires. Abraham says it (much more clearly), this way, “I am that which I am, and I am willing to allow all others to be that which they are. Rather than trying to get the world to all do the same thing, or to do the things that YOU like, it is a much better plan to put yourself in the position of accepting that everyone has the right to be, do, or have whatever they want; and that you, through the power of your thoughts, will attract unto you only that which is in harmony with you.”

These laws are all there is, and they cover every eventuality. Now, a number of teachers have created what they claim to be other “laws” that have to do with taking action, how long it takes a desire to manifest, and any number of other things. There are no other laws…there are a lot of other beliefs. Not all beliefs are bad, not all beliefs are limiting…some beliefs can be inhibiting however. And, in my view, there is no reason to complicate life. When you concentrate on the three Laws (with a capital L), everything else takes care of itself. The actions will follow as inspired action coming as a consequence of our alignment and harmony and not as acts of desperation trying to influence our alignment. The time it takes desires to manifest will be natural and comfortable. The Universe will take care of the rest.

So, not only can you create the life you desire, or manifest your burning desire, the Universal Laws make it clear that you are, whether you want to or not. Napoleon Hill and W. Clement Stone were right when they said, “What the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve.”

The moral…go make a miracle today.

The Benefits of Inner Stillness in the Law of Attraction

When using the Law of Attraction to create the life that you want, it isn’t just about visualizing and focusing on your desires. There is much more to it than that and finding your inner stillness, or your Core Being as we call it, will literally change your life.

You are a physical being on this Earth but there is a Core Being that is the real you within you. The real you is full of all the knowledge that is in the Universe. The real you understands why others do what they do and the real you loves unconditionally. The real you, the Core Being you, knows your physical life purpose. It’s when we decide to come to this Earth, to understand and learn more about the many levels of love, that the Universe gives us the creation of having a physical body and actually experiencing the physical.

Think about a time where someone told you about a trip they may have taken. Maybe they went to Ireland or visited England and saw Stonehenge and they described it in detail and even showed you pictures. Did you experience actually physically going on the trip? No, you listened and enjoyed and visualized what your friend told you about her trip. But until you have experienced it, it is just someone else’s memory.

This is what it is like with the Core Being.

The Core Being knows all with the exception of actually living the experience in 3D; it’s illusion yet real all the same. We come here to have the physical experience and not just hear and learn from the thoughts of another.

Your Core Being is always connected to the Universe and when you can feel it being connected, you will be able to find thoughts and insights that you never knew existed to help you with the life here.

So where do you start to find your inner stillness? You start through meditation. When you meditate you are doing nothing; you are sitting in stillness. You are relaxing and just ‘being’. When you relax and just ‘be’, you are in truth realizing the connection that is there (all the time) to the Universe. Giving your body time to relax and giving your Core Being some time to fully connect will help you attain the life that you desire. How is this possible? Because even though you are always connected to the Universe, you are giving the Universe its own time with the physical body being silent and still (and the physical self isn’t in the way) so that you are a clear channel to receive infusions of insights and knowledge that will help you with your physical life and all your desires.

Will you immediately know the answers to all the world problems? It’s possible but most likely (like everyone else) getting your mind to shut off through meditation can be a bit of a challenge. And when you have chatter happening in your head, the Core Being can be hard to hear and to listen to. Even if you can sit just for a few moments without mind chatter, it’s a beginning. We also have the logical mind that has to add its two cents, and confusing your logical mind with the inner stillness can give you answers that aren’t quite accurate.

I take a small notebook with me when I prepare to meditate. I sit still and clear my mind and not wait… I just relax and keep clearing my mind when thoughts from the day come rolling in. Even if you don’t receive one insight, the meditation can help solve problems and find answers throughout your day because of the inner stillness gained through meditation.

By taking this time with your Core Being, each day you will become more calm and serene. The impatience will begin to leave and with most people insights and knowledge will arrive, not just in meditation but throughout your week.

Find the time to yourself to get to know your ‘Core Being’ because that is who you really are and once you do the Law of Attraction will become much clearer in your life.

Quantum Physics and Its Connection to Our Self Esteem – Part 3

From the previous articles we learned that ‘everything that can exist, already does’. It is only a matter of creating the situation where it can be observed for it to become a reality in our experience.

Us having what we want or being who we want to be, is the same. It already exists as a possibility but it is not in our experience until we observe or vibrate in the same frequency or in other words, believe it to be so. Once we observe it by believing it to be so and give it our focus the universe begins to form it into our experience.

We start the process with our thought, our focus, and as the buffer of time required to create what it is we want goes by, it continues to shift into our reality. In other words in order for us to create, we must first give it thought. Thought is like the blueprint the universe uses to create our reality. Therefore, if we want to change our life or get what it is we are wanting, we have to think or send out thought to the universe so it can create our new reality.

It needs a new set of blue prints in order to build us what it is we want!

In summary, everything that can exist already does; that means that the possibilities of your life existing as you want it to be, already does. It is only a matter of observing your life as you want it to be or vibrating at the same frequency as what you want and the universe will, over time, manifest it into your experience, it will become your reality.

Low self esteem and lack of confidence are negative emotions and sabotage positive manifestation process. Anyone suffering these afflictions focus on what is wrong with life rather than what is right or good about life. They cannot understand why their life attracts so much misery and believe that by feeling sorry for themselves the universe will feel sorry for them. They spend all their time in self pity in a vain hope that the universe will change their circumstances and bring about a miraculous cure for their unhappiness, but it never responds.

The less the response the more they feel sorry for themselves and the cycle continues to spiral downwards.

Only you can change your circumstances and your unhappiness. As we have seen the universe gives you what you want and will give it in abundance. It will create the world around you create in your mind and will continue to do so until told differently.

If you suffer from a lack of confidence or low self esteem what thoughts are you thinking that manifests your misery into your reality.

Psychic FAQ – Is EVP Real? (And the BEST Way to Communicate With the Spirit Universe Instead)

What is EVP? Is it real… or just a big joke? How can I tell if the messages are really authentic… rather than a garbled, jumbled mess of nonsense that makes NO sense at all? In this article we are going to take a quick and easy look at one of the most common questions folks ask a psychic about spirit communication… and address some common myths and misconceptions about EVP as well.

Curious to know more? Continue reading as we take a closer look below:

Filed Under: What does EVP mean?

EVP stands for Electronic Voice Phenomena. While there are some different interpretations of what is considered good EVP evidence, in general, discarnate voices that are caught on a digital recording device of unknown origin, that can be deciphered by more than one impartial person, is a starting point for a good piece of evidence.

Do all psychic mediums believe that EVP is real?

Most do, yes. BUT, like any other group of people… many mediums will disagree about the quality of a PARTICULAR piece of electronic voice phenomena. In other words, I’ve been in a room with 3 or 4 world class psychics or mediums who have wildly different opinions on one piece of evidence – raining from “WOW”… to “so what, it sounds like fuzz!”, all in the same sentence.

The truth is though – as a whole, if you believe in the idea of afterlife communication, the leap from THAT idea, to the notion that spirits can communicate in a way that can be captured on a digital recording device, is NOT a big leap of faith at all.

My own thoughts on EVP?

I’ve heard some crystal clear, and super spontaneous recordings that have literally made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I’ve heard other recordings that some believe are uncanny evidence of spirit communication that have NOT convinced me a lick. As a psychic, and yet a born skeptic as well, I’ve found that there is a lot of wishful thinking in the EVP world… and that what some WANT to hear, is often what they do… even if it sounds forced, fuzzy or even fake to others who don’t have the same emotional energy invested in the outcome.

Do note though…

I DO believe that some of the best EVPs represent some of the best evidence that spirits are around us all in ordinary life, and if you are a serious spiritual seeker, can be a fun and easy and inexpensive way to test all of this stuff yourself, without having to believe anything on faith.

That said, I still think that the BEST way to communicate with spirit is through more traditional means. Speaking to psychics and mediums who maintain an open channel to the spirit world is probably the fastest way of getting first hand evidence that there is. So too is a dedicated meditative practice where you visualize loved ones you’ve lost… and want to reconnect with. (it can take a while to have your first genuine encounter, but with practice, you can start having some truly life changing experiences)

The big reason I prefer more direct methods of spirit communication over EVP?

Simply because unless you have a group of likeminded people and a lot of time to listen to a whole lot of empty space, EVP can actually be very BORING! (you have to first record, and then listen very, very carefully to many hours of tape to hear that first “hit”… and getting there ultimately bores most folks to tears)

Talking to a medium, or learning to communicate yourself is often INSTANT, exciting, and life changing to boot!

Lupita Jones – The Pride of Mexico

On September 6, 1968, María Guadalupe Jones Garay popularly known as Lupita Jones was born in Baja California, Mexico. Twenty-three years later, Jones gave pride to Mexico flag when she became the first and Mexican to win the prestigious title of Miss Universe in 1993. Until this day, no other Mexican is able to win the prestigious title again.

Before joining the Miss Universe, Jones was first crowned as Señorita Mexico or Miss Mexico in September of 1990. After a few months, she competed against 72 candidates from around the world for the Miss Universe 1991 title that was held in Las Vegas, Nevada.

During the pre-pageant, Jones was clearly a favorite candidate by the judges. She made it to the semi final round as the only contestant who garnered an average score of more than nine. At the final portion of the contest, Jones won every major award from swimsuit, to evening gown and even to interview. She dominated the interview portion when she immersed as the contestant who posed the highest interview score during the Top 6 and the Top 3 questions.

When her Miss Universe reigned ended in 1992, Jones created her own company named Promocertamen. In 1994, she founded Nuestra Belleza Mexico which has become the Official Mexican Pageant that is responsible in selecting the representative of Mexico to three prestigious beauty contests – Miss Universe, Miss International, and Miss World.

Lolita Jones is also an advocate of children’s right when she supported a program designed to help ill-treated girls. In 2000, she was appointed as United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Goodwill Ambassador. At present, Jones is still active with Nuestra Belleza Mexico and has produced one Miss International in 2007 through Priscilla Perales.

Law of Attraction and Your Magic Genie

When I was younger I had a copper genie lamp. At least I thought it looked like Aladdin’s magic genie lamp. And what’s funny about that is that the genie lamp had money in it. My parents put extra change in the genie lamp when they had the chance. Now I don’t know whatever happened to that genie lamp but I know the money was removed by me when I grew up.

Did you ever have a genie lamp? It’s okay if you did. You’re not crazy. That lamp just symbolizes what you want to manifest in your life. Even though a real genie won’t manifest, the lamp still symbolizes what your desires are. I know when I was younger, I can still hear a genie coming out of the magic lamp saying “Your wish is my command”.

Imagine Aladdin’s genie granting you your wish. What would you wish for? Is it money, health, happiness, friends, a relationship? No matter what you wish for, it’s yours. Really! What you want to do is to be specific, visualize it, define it, think it, accept it, and be positive and you will get it. Even the slightest doubt and poof, it’s gone

I remember hearing this story about a guy who won the lottery 3 times. Why is that? That’s not fair. Well after he won the lottery the first time, it was easy for him to believe he would win the lottery again. It was like second nature to this guy. Believe that it is yours. Change your thought pattern and you already received what you want. Picture your life with it. Feel the joy of receiving your gift. Never doubt that you will have it. If it is a new car that you want, imagine sitting in it, driving it down the street. If you want to lose weight, imagine wearing those “thin clothes”. Whatever you imagine, you will attract it.

How about King Midas. Everything he touched turned to gold. He didn’t have to think “will this object turn to gold”. He knew every time he touched an object, it would turn to gold. No doubt. No negativity. If you want something, imagine it, feel it and if you have to hear an inner voice say “your wish is my command”, then listen to that voice inside and have fun manifesting your wishes.

A New Yardstick For New Physics

It is currently thought that the best explanation for how the Universe came to be is that it was born approximately 13.8 billion years ago in the wild, wonderful, and profoundly mysterious exponential inflation of the Big Bang–whereby it ballooned in size from that of an elementary particle to attain macroscopic size in the tiniest fraction of a second. Spacetime has been growing larger and larger, colder and colder ever since, evolving from its original hot, dense condition, only to expand at a much more stately rate towards its own doom. We inhabit a mysterious Universe–most of which we are unable to see–and its current rate of expansion is believed to be caused by a bizarre substance called Dark Energy. Dark Energy is generally considered to be a property of Space itself, and it first emerged in Albert Einstein’s calculations that formed his Theory of General Relativity (1915).

Nevertheless, much, much more is unknown about our Universe than what is known. In February 2018, astronomers announced that they have used NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope (HST) to make the most precise measurements of the expansion rate of the Universe since it was first calculated nearly a century ago. The intriguing results of these new measurements are forcing astronomers to consider that they may be seeing fascinating evidence of something surprising at work in the Cosmos.

This is because the HST measurements confirm a troubling discrepancy, revealing that the Universe is currently expanding faster than scientists had expected, based on its trajectory seen shortly after the Big Bang. Astronomers now propose that there may be new physics to explain the inconsistency.

“The community is really grappling with understanding the meaning of this discrepancy,” commented lead researcher and Nobel Laureate Dr. Adam Riess in a February 22, 2018 Hubblesite Press Release. Dr. Riess is of the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScl) and Johns Hopkins University, both in Baltimore, Maryland.

Dr. Riess’s team, which also includes Dr. Stefano Casertano (also of STScl and Johns Hopkins), has been making use of the famous Hubble Space Telescope for the past half dozen years in order to render more precise the measurements of the distances to galaxies, using their constituent stars as distance markers. Those measurements are then used to calculate how fast the Universe expands over time, a value termed the Hubble constant. The team’s new study has increased the number of stars analyzed to distances 10 times farther into Space than earlier HST results.

However, Dr. Riess’s new value presents a problem because of the conflict between it and the expected value derived from observations of the primordial Universe’s expansion, 378,000 years after the Big Bang–the violent birth-blast that created the Universe almost 14 billion years ago. Those measurements were made by the European Space Agency’s (ESO’s) Planck satellite, which maps the cosmic microwave background (CMB). The CMB is the relic afterglow of the Big Bang itself, and it reveals wonderful secrets of the Universe’s very beginning to the prying eyes of curious scientists. The difference between the two contradictory values is approximately 9 percent. The new HST measurements help scientists reduce the chance that the discrepancy in the values is a mere coincidence to 1 in 5,000.

The Planck satellite’s results predict that the Hubble constant value should now be 67 kilometers per second per megaparsec, which is 3.3 million light-years, and could be no higher than 69 kilometers per second per megaparsec. This basically indicates that for every 3.3 million light-years farther away a remote galaxy is from us, it is moving 67 kilometers per second faster.

However, Dr. Riess’ team found something else. What they found was a different measured value of 73 kilometers per second per megaparsec. Of course, this is a considerably faster rate than what had been expected. It means that galaxies are galloping along through Spacetime faster than previously indicated by observations of the ancient Universe.

Indeed, the HST data are so precise that astronomers cannot simply shrug off the disquieting, disturbing, and unbelievably intriguing gap between the two differing results as mere errors in any single measurement or method. As Dr. Riess explained in the February 22, 2018 Hubblesite Press Release: “Both studies have been tested multiple ways, so barring a series of unrelated mistakes, it is increasingly likely that this is not a bug but a feature of the Universe.”

The Universe Is Rushing Through Spacetime To Its Own Demise

Star-gazers have stared up at the starlit night sky above Earth for thousands of years, and have asked profound questions concerning the age and size of the Universe. Does the Universe end somewhere; does it have an edge–or does it go on forever, throughout an unimaginable Eternity? Did our Universe have a Beginning? And, if our Universe did, indeed, have a definite and profound Beginning, will it also experience a profound final, fatal End?

In 1929, Edwin Hubble (for whom the famous space telescope is named), made the important discovery that ultimately paved the way for genuinely scientific answers to these previously philosophical questions. Edwin Hubble discovered, when he was working as an astronomer at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in Pasadena, that the Universe is expanding. Before Hubble made his discovery, most scientists believed that the Universe is both static and unchanging–and, therefore, not expanding.

Ancient philosophers were the first to ask profound questions about the nature of the Cosmos. For example, the ancient Greeks understood that it was hard to even imagine what an infinite Universe might look like. However, they also pondered the perplexing question that, if the Universe were finite, and you walked off its edge, where would you wind up? The ancient Greeks two unanswered questions created a paradox. The Universe either had to be finite or infinite, and both opposing scenarios presented two extremely difficult problems.

After the rise of modern scientific astronomy, still another paradox began to plague astronomers. In the early half of the 1800s, the German astronomer Heinrich Olbers proposed that the Universe had to be finite. This is because, according to Olbers, if the Universe were infinite, and hosted stars throughout its endless expanse, then if you stared at the sky in any particular direction, your line-of-sight would eventually rest upon the surface of a star. Even though the apparent size of a star sparkling in the sky becomes smaller and smaller as the distance to that particular star increases, the brightness of this smaller stellar surface remains a constant. Therefore, according to this line of reasoning, if the Universe were infinite, the entire surface of the night sky should be as dazzling and brilliant as the surface of a star. This, of course, is not the case. There are obviously dark swaths in the night sky above our planet. Therefore, Olbers reasoned, the Universe had to be finite.

Isaac Newton realized that gravity is always attractive when he discovered the law of gravity. Each and every object in the Universe attracts every other object. Imagine the outcome of this if, indeed, the Universe is finite. Obviously, the mutual gravitational attraction of all the objects inhabiting the Universe, should have caused the entire Universe to collapse in on itself. Of course, this has not happened, and so astronomers were stuck with this truly difficult paradox.

Albert Einstein, as he developed his General Theory of Relativity, also believed that he had been stuck with this seemingly insurmountable problem. Einstein’s equations showed that the Universe should either be collapsing or expanding. However, Einstein, like other physicists of his era, thought that the Universe is static, and his original solution contained a constant term–the cosmological constant. The cosmological constant neatly cancelled out the effects of gravity on the largest scales, and resulted in the desired static Universe. After Hubble discovered that the Universe is not static, but expanding, Einstein reportedly called the cosmological constant his “greatest blunder.”

Larger telescopes were being built around the same time, and they were able to precisely measure the spectra (the intensity of light as a function of wavelength) of dim objects. Astronomers, using this newly acquired data, tried to understand the myriad faint, nebulous objects they were now able to see with the new telescopes. Between 1912 and 1922, astronomer Vesto Slipher of the Lowell Observatory in Arizona found that the spectra of light traveling from a large number of these objects was systematically shifted to longer wavelengths (redshifted). Soon thereafter, other astronomers were able to demonstrate that these nebulous faint objects were remote galaxies beyond our own. Our spiral Galaxy, the Milky Way, was not an island at all–as had been previously thought–it had plenty of company. In fact, our Galaxy is only one of billions dancing through the relatively small swath of the Universe that we can observe–the observable Universe. Whatever may reside beyond the observable Universe is beyond the horizon of our visibility because the light streaming out from those unimaginably remote regions has not had time to reach us since the Big Bang almost 14 billion years ago. No known signal can travel faster than light in a vacuum, and so the speed of light sets something of a universal speed limit.

During this same highly productive era in the history of astronomy, other mathematicians and physicists working on Einstein’s General Relativity, found that the equations contained some solutions that described an expanding Universe. In these solutions, the light traveling from distant objects would be redshifted as it streamed its sparkling way through expanding Spacetime. Thus, the redshift would increase with increasing distance to the object emitting the light.

In 1929, Edwin Hubble measured the redshifts of many distant galaxies. He also went on to measure their relative distances by measuring the apparent brightness of a special class of variable stars called Cepheids inhabiting each galaxy. When Hubble plotted redshift against relative distance, he discovered that the redshift of remote galaxies increased as a linear function of their distance. There could be only one explanation for this observation: the Universe is expanding.

When astronomers came to the realization that the Universe is expanding, they immediately understood that it had to have been smaller in the past. At some point in the past, they calculated, the entire Universe would have been a single point. This point, later called the Big Bang, was the beginning–the birth–of the Universe as we understand it today.

Therefore, the Universe is finite, in both Space and Time. The reason that the Universe did not collapse in on itself, as both Newton’s and Einstein’s equations indicated, is that it had been expanding from the moment of its birth. The Universe is in a constant state of change–it is not static. The expanding Universe, a relatively new idea in modern physics, put an end to the nagging paradoxes that haunted the sleepless nights of many scientists from the time of ancient philosphers until the early 20th century.

We live in a mysterious Universe–most of which we cannot see with our human eyes. The galaxies, clusters of galaxies, and superclusters of galaxies are all nested in halos composed of a strange transparent form of non-atomic matter that scientists refer to as dark matter. This unidentified material is much more abundant than the atomic matter that composes the Universe we are familiar with–stars, planets, moons, trees, and people, for example. On large scales, the entire Universe looks the same wherever we turn our eyes–displaying a bubbly, foamy appearance, with very heavy dark matter filaments that twist and wind themselves around each other, weaving a web-like structure that is (appropriately) referred to as the Cosmic Web. Though invisible, the filaments of the Cosmic Web are outlined by the seductive sparkle of a multitude of stellar fires. The stars trace out immense sheets and intertwining braids that host the stellar-studded galaxies inhabiting the observable Universe.

The temperature throughout the original Big Bang fireball was almost but not precisely uniform. This exquisitely tiny variation from exact uniformity is responsible for the formation of everything we are and all that we can ever know. Before the period of inflation occurred, the extremely small, elementary-particle-sized Patch–that eventually expanded to become the Universe–was completely homogeneous, smooth, and appeared to be the same in every direction. The primeval period of inflation is thought to explain how that originally homogeneous Patch began to ripple. The tiny fluctuations, the primordial ripples in Spacetime, occurred in the smallest units that can be measured (quantum). Inflation explains how these quantum fluctuations in the baby Universe eventually grew to become large-scale structures like galaxies, galaxy clusters, and superclusters. Wherever we look when we observe the Universe, we see exactly the same thing. This has been interpreted to mean that at one extremely ancient time everything was squashed into a tiny point where everything was in contact with everything else. At the birth of Spacetime, every region was in contact with every other region.

Imagine the Universe as a rising loaf of poppyseed bread. As the leavening dough begins to rise (inflate), the poppyseeds become increasingly farther and farther away from each other. If this kitchen drama were played backwards, the dough would shrink, and all of the poppyseeds would be on top of one another.

Shrouded In Darkness

Dr. Adam Riess suggests a few potential explanations for the faster-than-expected expansion of the Universe–and all are related to the 95% of the Cosmos that is shrouded in mysterious darkness. One of the possibilities proposed by Dr. Riess is that the dark energy, that is already known to be accelerating the Universe’s expansion, may be pushing galaxies away from each other with even greater–or ever growing–force. This essentially means that the acceleration itself may not really have a constant value. Instead, the accelerating expansion of the Universe may change over time. Dr. Riess shared the Nobel Prize in Physics for the 1998 discovery of the accelerating expansion of Spacetime.

Yet another proposal suggests that the Universe hosts a new subatomic particle that flies shrieking through Spacetime at almost the speed of light. Such swiftly galloping particles are collectively termed “dark radiation”, and it includes previously unknown particles such as neutrinos. Neutrinos are formed in nuclear reactions and radioactive decays. Unlike a normal neutrino, which interacts by way of a subatomic force, the new particle would be influenced only by gravity. This is the reason why it is dubbed a “sterile neutrino”.

Yet another (especially intriguing) proposal is that the invisible non-atomic dark matter particles interact more strongly with normal atomic (so-called “ordinary) matter than previously hypothesized.

Any one of these theories would change the contents of the primordial Universe, thus leading up to inconsistencies in theoretical models. These inconsistencies would result in an incorrect value for the Hubble Constant, as calculated from observations of the baby Universe. The value would thus differ from the HST observations.

So far, Dr. Riess and his colleagues don’t have an answer to this nagging problem. However, his team plans to continue working on fine-tuning the Universe’s expansion rate. At this time, Dr. Riess’ team, called the Supernova H0 for the Equation of State (SHOES), has decreased the uncertainty to 2.3 percent. Before HST was launched back in 1990, estimates of the Hubble Constant differed by a factor of two. One of HST’s primary goals was to aid astronomers in their efforts to reduce the value of the uncertainty to within an error of only 10%. Since 2005, the group has been seeking to refine the accuracy of the Hubble Constant to a precision that allows for a better comprehension of the Universe’s mysterious behavior.

The team of astronomers has been successful in refining the value of the Hubble Constant by both strengthening and streamlining the building of the cosmic distance ladder. Astronomers use the cosmic distance ladder to accurately measure distances to galaxies that are both near to and far from our planet. The astronomers have compared those distances with the expansion of Spacetime as measured by the stretching of traveling light streaming out from galaxies moving away from Earth. The scientists then went on to use the apparent outward velocity of galaxies at each distance to calculate the Hubble Constant.

However, the value of the Hubble Constant is only as precise as the accuracy of the measurements. In order to achieve the necessary accuracy, astronomers have chosen special classes of stars and supernovae to use as cosmic yardsticks or milepost markers to accurately measure galactic distances.

Cepheid variable stars are the most reliable yardsticks for astronomers to use when measuring shorter distances. Cepheid variables are pulsating stars that brighten and dim at rates that correspond to their intrinsic brightness. As a result, their distances can be calculated by comparing their intrinsic brightness with their apparent brightness as observed from our planet.

The most recent HST result is based on measurements of the parallax of eight newly studied Cepheids in our own Milky Way Galaxy. These variable stars are approximately 10 times more distant than any previously studied Cepheids, situated between 6,000 light-years and 12,000 light-years from Earth–thus rendering them more difficult to measure. These Cepheids pulsate at longer intervals, just like the Cepheids observed by HST inhabiting remote galaxies hosting another reliable cosmic yardstick–brilliantly exploding stars called Type Ia supernovae. This particular type of supernova blazes with uniform brightness and is sufficiently dazzling to be observed from relatively farther away. Earlier HST observations studied 10 more-rapidly-blinking Cepheids situated 300 light-years to 1,600 light-years from Earth.

In order to measure parallax with HST, the astronomers had to determine the apparent tiny wobbles of the Cepheids caused by Earth’s orbit around our Sun. These tiny wobbles are about the size of 1/100 of a single pixel on the space telescope’s camera, which is approximately the apparent size of a grain of sand seen by an observer standing 100 miles away.

Therefore to ensure the accuracy of the measurements, the scientists developed an ingenious method that was unknown at the time HST was launched. The astronomers developed a scanning method in which the HST measured a star’s position a thousand times per minute every six months for four years.

The team then calibrated the true brightness of the eight slowly pulsating Cepheids and cross-correlated them with their more remote winking siblings to tighten the inaccuracies in their distance ladder. Then the astronomers compared the brightness of the Cepheids and supernovae in those galaxies with improved confidence. In this way, they could more precisely measure the star’s true brightness, thus calculating distances to hundreds of supernovae in remote galaxies more precisely.

The new technique involves HST slowly sliding across a targeted star, thus obtaining the image as a streak of light. The advantage of this technique allows for repeated opportunities to measure the extremely tiny displacements resulting from parallax. The astronomers measure the separation between two stars, not only in one place on the camera, but over and over thousands of times, thus reducing errors in measurement.

The team’s goal is to further reduce the uncertainty by using data obtained from HST and the European Space Agency’s (ESA’s) Gaia Space Observatory. This will measure the positions and distances of the variable stars with unprecedented precision.

As Dr. Casertano commented in the February 22, 2018 Hubblesite Press Release: “This precision is what it will take to diagnose the cause of this discrepancy.”

The new research will be published in The Astrophysical Journal.

The Astronomical Clockmaker: What Isaac Newton Said About God

You already know Astronomy is the field of study that focuses on the Universe and the planets and stars in it. However the more time I spend trying to figure out this subject, the more I find an amazing Creator in it and this is not an article about religion. Something so big, so timeless that created this clock so that it can run on its own. This idea was also supported by on of the most brilliant minds ever. The mind of Isaac Newton

Newton Explains the Law of Gravity.

After the great Galileo died the world waited for another great mind to be born. This happened and soon the young Newton stood on the shoulders of giants before him. By the time he was only 24 he realized the things Galileo and Kepler worked out behaved the way they did because behind them was something that ruled their motions. In fact not only that on Earth but also that of the sun and galaxies. According to him, there was a universal attraction between things and that was called gravitation. The degree of attraction depends on the mass of the object and the distance between them.

Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy.

Newton published this work in 1687 and described the Universe as a giant clock. Its parts worked together perfectly and we could express this mathematically. Newton believed God was the creator of this order and the clockmaker who had set the clock in motion.

We see that Newton moved away from the thinking that the Earth was the centre of the Universe. Still he maintained that God was in control of this clock. He moved away from the old science thinking that common sense and reasoning could explain the physical world. He embraced the new science thinking where observation and scientific reasoning gathered knowledge and drew conclusions about the physical world. Newton did not try to disprove God, he actually found a Master planner behind the clock of the universe and he believed this planner was God. He gave God all the credit but proved the church had it wrong in their interpretation of the way in which God had created the Universe in general but specifically the position of the Earth in the universe. Since many people feel certain astronomical theories and facts disprove the existence of god, Newton showed the contrary. Astronomy studies the Universe, not religion facts.
