Stuffed Animal Storage Can Corral The Plush Toy Herd

Stuffed animal overpopulation has become more of a problem for families of today’s kids. Children have far more toys these days than they had in years past. Where a child might have had a few toys of their own back in the baby boomer era, many modern children can accumulate hundreds of toys.

Between birthday parties, holidays, doctors visits, good grades at school, or performance at a sporting event many parents use a new toy as a reward for even the most mundane of occasions. Modern manufacturing methods have driven the price of a well made stuffed animal down below the ten-dollar mark for many styles and sizes.

New toy makers have followed each other into the collectible toy animal market, hoping to ride the wave created by the makers of the Beanie Babies in the mid Nineties. Suddenly high quality plush toys were hoarded and traded at prices far above their retail value. New stuffed animal companies appeared that offered not just a collectible demand, but also toys that came with their own online world to go with them, all for a price tag typically under ten dollars.

And thus the modern plush animal storage crisis was born. Many families find themselves buried under an avalanche of plush bears, stuffed lions, cuddly kitties, and fluffy puppies. As kids grow older, previously loved stuff animals can become a nuisance.

However, there are many modern innovations in stuffed animal storage that can help in this regard.

Where people used to have toy storage chests or shelves, there are now stuffed animal bean bag style chairs where instead of being filled with beans, you can fill them with your own surplus plush toys. Windows allow a child to see and access the stuffed animals inside, while also providing somewhere to sit comfortably.

Other great options include nets that can be strung in a corner of a kids room to provide a hammock for all their plush dogs and cats. One plush animal storage solution is styled like a display at a zoo, with bars to hold the animals in.

Remember, toy animal overpopulation issues can quickly become a thing of the past with the right storage solution.

The Difference Between A Pokemon Plush Toy And A Teddy Bear

The biggest difference between a Teddy Bear and a stuffed toy such as a Pokemon is probably in price- I’d wager that a teddy bear is far more expensive. And the second difference is in sales: Pokemon stuffed toys probably outsell teddy bears a thousand to one or greater (far greater perhaps).

Adults are far more interested in teddy bears than children are. And they are usually women who are interested in them as collectors’ and decorative items than they are in cuddling them at night.

Clearly, the teddy bear in former years was tremendously popular, but as a doll showered with love and affection, it is pretty well forgotten now. I know that as child I never had a teddy bear or knew anyone who did, and I’m no spring chicken! Certainly, there was Barbie, but who could ever snuggle up to a Barbie doll?

Pokemon plush toys (known as plushies) come in a variety of sizes and like a quality teddy bear, they are not all that soft when new, though I imagine they acquire softness when manhandled over time. My son does have his in his bed with him, though I’ve never seen him cuddle it. Much older kids- teens in fact- like to collect Pokemon stuffed dolls as well (particularly popular now is anything Pokemon Black and White). And why is that?

Pokemon dolls are collectibles as well as toys. Where as the classic bear has a history and a legacy behind them, they are seeped in culture in other words, but they don’t have a story behind them and although teddy bears enjoy much more diversity than you might at first imagine, Pokemon are all about diversity- mutation in fact. There is a whole world behind the Pokemon that almost makes collecting them like collecting artifacts; a pseudo-science is growing behind the Pokemon. That is something very different. You’ll never see a black and white teddy bear card game, but you can buy legendary Pokemon cards.

I’m not sure what teddies used to be. Relatively speaking, toys were much more expensive than they are now. I imagine that a teddy bear probably passed through several generations. The monetary value now reflects heritage and handcrafting; Pokemon dolls represent merchandising popular, booming phenomena. The two are very different things, though I’m not sure that the children’s feelings are that different.

In some ways the two remain alike though. In real life, bears are strong, dangerous animals. They may be soft, but they would never let you cuddle them (most wouldn’t anyway). In fantasy, the Pokemon are likewise dangerous creatures. But both, in doll form, look cute and harmless. Generally, people are afraid of scary things in the dark. Cute stuffed toys of beasts relieve that fear.

Toy Hauler Travel Trailer – A Recreational Vehicle Review

Toy Hauler Travel Trailers can be a small stepping stone up from the Tent Trailer or a very luxurious move up-town. They are a good compromise when considering price, size, and comfort; there by proving to be one of the most popular Toy Haulers on the market today. Travel Trailers are towed via a heavy-duty hitch at the rear of your tow vehicle.

A Toy Hauler Trailer is less expensive than the 5th Wheel Trailer, starting around $15K. That’s quite a jump from the Jumping Jack Tent Trailer that has a price tag around $5K. Don’t let the low price fool you, it’s easy spend the better part of a years wages on one, if you choose.

Manufactures have responded to the SUV market by producing “lightweight and ultra-light” Toy Hauler Trailers. Yet loaded with fuel, water, and the toys, my 23 footer has a gross weight is near a whopping 10,000 pounds. My experience is that a rig can “comfortably” tow a little more than one half of its rated towing capacity. Keep this in mind if you will be towing in mountainous country. My Dodge diesel is rated at 16,000 pounds towing capacity. Which gives me a little power to spare in the mountains.

Initially, our plan was to park our new trailer in the same space as our little motorhome, but when it arrived we found that it was much bigger than it looked in the dealer’s lot. We barely had enough room. With the help of my wife to guide me, we managed, but quickly realized that we had a trailer with almost no-where to park it. The lesson we learned was to be sure to measure your parking space before you buy. Keep in mind your maneuvering room. The corner of our house is quite a bit closer than I remember. It’s certainly a tight fit, so I recruit the wife, and I back the trailer in ever so slowly.

Proper hitch set up is very important with Toy Hauler Trailers. Large trailers are subject to catching wind and can be sensitive to proper load distribution. A good hitch will make towing a pleasure for you. Seak the guidance of your RV dealer in setting up your hitch.

When you move up from a smaller unit into a Travel Trailer, the comfort levels really start to rise. The kitchen is bigger, (although ours is kind of small), you can usually sleep up to 8 comfortably. There is actually a bathtub and shower! We love the large living room that is created after the toys are unloaded, and I’m kept entertained by a TV and Stereo System. Some models have a slide-out which provides more room to relax in. No need to worry about having to get up and move to let someone pass by. Some floor plans have the slide-out area converting into dinettes while others slide the couch out for leg stretching.

What I really like about the Toy Hauler Trailer is the extra goodies, especially created for hauling toys. It has a fuel station that can hold upward to 30 gallons of gas and has its own electric fuel pump and nozzle for filling the toys. A 4000-watt Onan generator powers my tools and keeps the lights burning bright while I’m working on the quads. During the day, the large checkerboard awning keeps the rays off my bald head, and believe me; you’ve not experienced sunburn ’til you’ve burned the top of your dome. Man that hurts!

Overall the Toy Hauler Travel Trailer gives you the best bang for the buck and is quickly proving itself in the travel trailer market.

What Are Other Ways to Use a Wooden Toy Chest?

1. I currently use my wooden toy chest as a storage for shoes at the entrance of my doorway. My toddlers will dig through the shoes and find the matching pair. Then they will close the lid of the toy chest and sit on top of it to begin putting on their shoes.

2. You can store your pillows from your bed in them just before going to bed. You know those pillows that you always toss at the end of the bed or to the side because realistically you don’t use them, they are just decorative pieces in your home. If you have a wooden toy chest that you can place a cushion on the top or opening of the lid, it would be the perfect decor for any room of the house.

3. You can use a chest as a storage container for all your handbags or purses. This is a great way to add a little decoration and style to your collection. You can get a style that matches who you are or you can even place fabric or a shawl over the toy chest. Toy chests come in different styles such as box, traditional, classic and even personalized.

5. Men can store all their different hats they collect that they won’t get rid of. My dad always collected hats throughout the many years of his life. He always says it builds character and its added accessories just like women use hair bows or earrings.

6. A great way to hide the unwanted mail, newspapers or even magazines is to place them in the toy chest for storage. You can choose a small size wooden toy chest and place as a decorative piece in your kitchen, living room or even the bathroom (instead of a magazine rack).

7. You can organize your clothing by season. You can exchange winter for spring or summer for fall by placing them in the wooden toy chest.

8. You can store your garden hose, your garden shovels or planter boxes. You can also store outside toys such as slip-n-slide, plastic rake or shovel and place them in your building and garage to use for the following year. If you have a fire pit in your backyard, a great way for extra company would be the toy chest. This adds a unique and comfortable way of making marshmallows and s’mores.

9. You can create a place to store your memories such as pictures, albums or even childhood memories. I know my children get a huge amount of papers of art projects, coloring papers and crafts that they completed at school, this is something you can use for a keepsake. You can place your wedding album, CD’s, video’s or even the bracelet from the hospital from your child’s birth. This is the perfect keepsake chest!

10. Another great way to use the toy trunk or chest is to take the hinges off the top lid and make a clock to display from the wall. You can buy a clock that is fairly cheap at a local retail store. You can go to your local craft store and purchase arms and numbers to create your own clock design. I have found that Gorilla Glue is the best type of glue when working with wood products.

11. A fun way to display your little ones hands and feet is to have them dip their feet in washable paint and apply them in your own design to the wooden toy chest. You can create your own master piece while preserving memories. This is a fun activity to get your children involved. Every time you look at your masterpiece that you have created it will bring back that moment in time.

12. Lastly, you can chop it up and use it for firewood for the winter or even in your fire pit in the summer. Prior to this try donating it your neighbor’s kids or local Goodwill.

There are a variety of ways you can use the wooden toy chest in your home if your toddler has outgrown theirs or you are looking for a unique way of storing items that doesn’t look like clutter.

My favorite and most creative way to reuse the wooden toy chest is to take the top lid off the hinges and glue a mirror around the inner layer. You can add flowers for a nice added decor. You can hang the top in the entryway of the home or at the bottom of the staircase. Place the base of the trunk under it and add a beautiful potted plant for an elegant look.

Why Plush Toys Are Meaningful Gifts

Some of us may think that plush animals are a thing of the past, as they no longer seem to be the “it” toy. You may often decide to not give a stuffed animal for a gift, and instead get something more practical, because after all, what point does a plush toy have? What reason is there to get a stuffed animal?

The answer to that is: plenty. Stuffed animals can be very meaningful, and symbolize important events or people. This is truly a timeless gift, and we all need to be reminded of that! Let’s look at why plush toys are important in the lives of three particular age groups: kids, teenagers, and adults.

Kid’s Symbols

There is no such thing as too many toys for children. Kids love collecting plush toys of all kinds, and they could always use more. What could possibly symbolize the innocence of childhood better than a soft and lovable toy animal? In our own childhood, we probably spent many a night cuddling up to our favorite plush bunny or bear. Children enjoy the comfort of a stuffed animal, and that comfort is a great nightmare repellant! In fact, those who say that stuffed toys aren’t in “it” toy anymore, haven’t been paying attention to what’s happening in the world of little girls. Plush animals are darn right “fashionable” for girls to have. Many girls will get a natural appearing plush cat or plush dog, just so they can carry it around in their little purses as they emulate fashionable women carrying around their small pets. Stuffed animals have certainly not gone out of style!

Teenager’s Symbols

Teenagers may not play with toys any more, but stuffed animals aren’t just a toy. They are a confidant and a comfort. In fact, many teenage girls have more stuffed animals now than they did when they were young. This is because stuffed animals often symbolize love or a crush. They are keepsakes. For example, a teenage girl will really cherish that little plush dolphin that her boyfriend gave her because he knows that dolphins are her favorite animals. Or maybe her father gives her a stuffed bear as she’s on the way out the door for college, so she will never be alone.

But it’s not just girls who can cherish plush toys. Teenage boys can also enjoy them a lot too. Boys often keep them as a reminder of something they did that was brave or impressive. For example, maybe they love keeping around that stuffed tiger they received after winning a sports game. Or maybe they have a huge stuffed lion they won at a boardwalk after proving their prowess at a darts game or baseball stand. To them, stuffed animals are a symbol of accomplishment and pride.

Adult’s Symbols

Lastly, stuffed animals can also be enjoyed by adults, though for different reasons than the kids and teenagers enjoy them. The majority of adults use stuffed animals as a decorative item. They will search for natural, classy appearing plush toy figurines or stuffed animals that can add little touches to their home or vacation home. For example, a dolphin plushie in their vacation home on the ocean, or a tiger to make their home more exotic and fit in with a jungle theme. Hallways and entrances can be embellished with stuffed lions, black bears, or even plush dogs as decoration to give a unique touch. Part of this too, is that stuffed animals for adults are more of a collectible than a toy. Many adults are true collectors, who have large collections to capture that nostalgic feeling from childhood. In fact, it’s not uncommon to realize someone you knows has kept an old teddy bear for 20 years because of the meanings it carries.

So as you can see, stuffed animals will never go out of style for any age group. They continue to symbolize and carry meaning of all kinds. Never discount the importance of stuffed animals!

The Toy Collector: The Benefits of Collecting Toys

The toy collector faces the dilemma of being labeled a geek, and some other names. But in recent years, with the boom of superhero movies, animated CGI flicks, video games, and also Comic Conventions and CosPlays, geeks are becoming an “in-thing” in the society. Yet, understanding the hobby of collecting toys still isn’t easy for many. Some consider collecting toys very juvenile, as toys are most often associated with little children. Others believe collecting toys a waste of funds and time, as collectible toys often cost a lot of money. There are even some who make fun of toy collectors and their passion, just because they are different. Very few in the world truly understand the toy collector and his purpose. And likely, very few know about the great values toy collecting teaches people.

If everyone knew of the values collecting toys teaches, people would probably take up the hobby more. Often, people only appreciate the beauty and vastness of a toy collection; and little do they know that a collection is only as good as the toy collector who built it. Know that it does take a lot to successfully build a good toy collection. Here are just some of traits the toy collector needs to develop in order to be successful:

• First, hone your skills when it comes to patience and resourcefulness. These are the two things you will need most when building you collection. You need to be patient if finding all the stuff you need to find. Likely, you also need to be resourceful so that you know what to find and where to find them.

• Second, build a good network of friends and fellow toy aficionados. The best way to find toys is through a network of contacts. The network of the toy collector is the pillar of his collection. It is the best source, when it comes to tips or information about toys the collection needs.

• Finally, maintain your collection and make sure it is always in good shape. This is very important when it comes to collecting toys, as the value of each toy diminishes when they get damaged. The more pristine they are, the higher their resale value. For rare toys, this is of utmost importance.

These are the three most important things the toy collector learns from building a toy collection. As you can see, these three are very useful in real life. Building patience and resourcefulness when it comes to collecting can make you more patient and resourceful in real life. Building a network of fellows can make you more social and friendly. Maintaining your collection can help you be more clean and organized in life. These are all helpful traits you can learn from collecting toys.

Toy collecting is definitely a great hobby. You don’t just enjoy and get fulfillment from collecting; you also learn useful values and skills for the real world. There are actually more advantages when it comes to collecting toys. Actually, if you are good enough of a toy collector, you can profit from your collections. To know more about this and other benefits, simply look for a good reference that tackles the hobby of toy collecting. Once you learn the ins and outs of collecting, earning money from your collections is sure to follow. It’s about time you call yourself a toy collector.

Plush Toys – Determining Your Target Age Range

Determining the age range that you will be targeting for your stuffed toys is one of the more important things that you have to consider. If you have an idea for a plush toy, one of the first things that you’re going to ask is “who is it for?”

Obviously, a lot of your decisions would be based on your target age range. Should you make these toys for kids? This is the road more travelled by toy inventors. Even if kids don’t have money to spend, your market is the parents and the adults who wish to give them to their kids. This is because kids love plush toys.

For example, you can make stuffed toys with kids aged 1 to 9 in mind. Can you imagine the number of kids aged 1 to 9? You can even break it down to smaller age ranges. But even so, that’s still a big market. So what can you do to reach out to that market? The moment that you think of that idea for a toy, you can customize the design with the kids in mind. You can make it more colorful because kids love color. Even babies are drawn to colors and you can take advantage of this fact to help them develop their visual skills by providing something visually entertaining for them. Being colorful also makes your toy easy to stand out among the other toys on the shelf. You can also customize how your plush toy feels. Kids would want to touch and hug the toy. That’s the second thing that they’re going to check. Once they see your stuffed toy in the toy store, they’ll hold it and see how it feels.

If you’re going to target kids, it’s important to take some things into consideration. The first concern is safety. Obviously, there are hazards like choking, so make sure that your stuffed toy complies with safety regulations. Also, your toys should be very durable. At that age, kids will be throwing things around – including your plush toy.

It sounds like kids are the perfect market for your stuffed toys. Can you still target adults? Yes, definitely. Adults have the purchasing power and a lot of adults are into toy collecting. With that being said, they can be your primary target – the collectors. Obviously, you need to improve on the quality and the design of the plush doll for it to be a collectors’ item. I’m sure you’re familiar with the Beanie Babies craze last decade. If you have a great idea for your toys, they can be the next big hit.

There’s also the option of targeting everyone for these toys. Yes, it’s an option but it’s not advisable. You don’t want a target age range that is too spread out because it can create confusion on the manufacturing end and for your customers. But keep in mind that a stuffed toy for kids can create interest for adults and vice versa and that’s a good thing. Either way, you are still the winner together with your target market.

Toy Trains vs Model Trains – What’s the Difference?

For people who aren’t involved in the model railroading hobby, there’s really no difference between “toy” trains and “model” trains. After all, both hobbies involve small trains that are controlled by some sort of power pack. There is a significant difference, however, to anyone who is an enthusiast. Calling a model railroad a “toy train” is like calling a classic piece of literature a “novel”.

Toy trains are generally marketing to children, and are the way many of us were introduced to the hobby. They tend to be quite plain looking and not based on any real-life trains. Model trains, on the other hand, are often a true art form with scale reproductions of real or potential trains and layouts (a technique known as prototyping).

Some of the earliest toy trains were available in the early 19th century. They often had wind-up motors or even steam-powered locomotives and were generally made from cast iron.

In the 1850’s a German company named Marklin, who made dollhouse accessories, introduced a box set of a train and track to try to broaden its market to include boys as well as girls. They also made extra tracks, rolling stock and building that were available as accessories.

Electric trains followed soon after, commonly believed to have been introduced by Carlisle and Finch in 1897 in the United States. The Lionel corporation revolutionized these model and they rapidly gained popularity and sophistication.

Things such as lighting, ability to change direction and “real” smoke were some of the earliest realism features that were added. There was still little distinction between “toy” and “model” trains until the 1950’s, however, when the modern emphasis on realism really started to take hold.

Today there are various gauges of model railroads, with a vast array of accessories available. They can be controlled by computer and entire railyards can be operated exactly the way they would be in real life. Many model railroading enthusiasts spend thousands of dollar and hundreds of hours creating prototypes of actual railroad lines, both past and present.

There are clubs and associations that offer resources for beginners and experienced railroaders alike. The internet has also helped to make it easier to find information on model railroading, as well as a much larger selection of trains and accessories than the average hobby store could hope to stock.
