Biology-Insects-Termites-Macrotermes bellicosus

Termites are sometimes referred to as ‘white ants’, but they are not ants and are not related to them. They are most abundant in tropical and sub-tropical countries where, in some cases, their ‘nests give rise to large, prominent mounds. All termites form extensive colonies with one egg-laying queen and hundreds or thousands of workers. The workers are nymphs whose development to reproductive adults is suppressed. Most of them carry out duties in the nest, feeding the queen and the young, nest building and collecting food but some workers develop into ‘soldiers’ with large heads and long jaws. Their job is to defend the nest from intruders.

At certain times of the year, some of the workers complete their development and become winged adults, both male and female. These leave the nest in dense swarms and eventually land on the ground, shed their wings and mate. The female then lays eggs in the soil and so starts a new colony. Macrotermes bellicosus is an African termite which can build spectacular mounds. The workers build the mounds by combining sand and clay with their saliva. Just above ground there is a central ‘nest’ with a network of tunnels many of which connect with underground passages leading to a good source of food. In the nest, the queen does nothing but produce eggs. Her abdomen swells so much that she cannot move and the workers feed her and carry away the eggs as fast as she can lay them.

Termites feed exclusively on plant material, mainly the cellulose in woody tissues. Some termites can digest the cellulose, sometimes with the aid of a population of single-celled organisms in their gut, but Macrotermes brings the plant material back to the nest and chews it to a pulp. On beds of this chewed pulp and termite faeces, fungi grow. Macrotermes feeds on the fungi or on the wood pulp which has been partially digested by the fungus.

If termites burrow into wooden structures to obtain their cellulose, they cause damage.

The Importance of Drones

While ‘natural beekeepers’ are used to thinking of a honeybee colony more in terms of its intrinsic value to the natural world than its capacity to produce honey for human use, conventional beekeepers and the public at large are much more likely to associate honeybees with honey. This has been the main cause of the attention given to Apis mellifera since we began our association with them just a few thousand years ago.

In other words, I suspect most people – if they think of it at all – tend to think of a honeybee colony as ‘a living system that produces honey’.

Prior to that first meeting between humans and honeybees, these adaptable insects had flowering plants and the natural world largely to themselves – give or take the odd dinosaur – and over a span of tens of millions of years had evolved alongside flowering plants and had selected those which provided the best quality and quantity of pollen and nectar for their use. We can assume that less productive flowers became extinct, save for those that adapted to using the wind, rather than insects, to spread their genes.

For all of those years – perhaps 130 million by some counts – the honeybee continuously evolved into the highly efficient, extraordinarily adaptable, colony-dwelling creature that we see and meet with today. By means of a number of behavioural adaptations, she ensured a high degree of genetic diversity within the Apis genus, among which is the propensity of the queen to mate at some distance from her hive, at flying speed and at some height from the ground, with a dozen or so male bees, which have themselves travelled considerable distances from their own colonies. Multiple mating with strangers from foreign lands assures a degree of heterosis – vital to the vigour of any species – and carries its own mechanism of selection for the drones involved: only the stronger, fitter drones ever get to mate.

An unusual feature of the honeybee, which adds a species-strengthening competitive edge to the reproductive mechanism, is that the male bee – the drone – is born from an unfertilized egg by a process known as parthenogenesis. This means that the drones are haploid, i.e. have only one set of chromosomes derived from their mother. This in turn means that, in evolutionary terms, the queen’s biological imperative of passing on her genes to future generations is expressed in her genetic investment in her drones – remembering that her workers cannot reproduce and are thus a genetic dead end.

So the suggestion I made to the conference was that a biologically and logically legitimate way of regarding the honeybee colony is as ‘a living system for producing fertile, healthy drones for the purpose of perpetuating the species by spreading the genes of the best quality queens’.

Thinking through this model of the honeybee colony gives us an entirely different perspective, when compared with the conventional point of view. We can now see nectar, honey and pollen simply as fuels for this system and the worker bees as servicing the needs of the queen and performing all the tasks required to ensure the smooth running of the colony, for the ultimate purpose of producing high quality drones, which will carry the genes of their mother to virgin queens from other colonies far away. We can speculate as to the biological triggers that cause drones to be raised at certain times and evicted or even killed off at other times. We can consider the mechanisms that may control the numbers of drones as a percentage of the overall population and dictate what other functions they may have inside the hive. We can imagine how drones appear to be able to find their way to ‘congregation areas’, where they seem to gather when waiting for virgin queens to pass by, when they themselves rarely survive more than about three months and hardly ever through the winter. There is much that we still do not know and may never fully understand.

An important aspect of this way of looking at the honeybee colony is that it calls into question many of the practices of ‘modern beekeeping’ – by which I mean post-Langstroth, post-1850 beekeeping – which has always been focussed on honey production above all else. From the point of view of our evolutionary model, many modern practices have been implemented with the specific objective of suppressing the raising of drones: thus running directly counter to the evolutionary interests of the queens.

In support of this thesis, we can cite the invention of wax foundation, impressed with the cell pattern of worker bees, deployed with the specific purpose of encouraging the colony to raise the maximum number of workers and the minimum number of drones. We can also lay some blame at the door of those who decided that frames should be spaced close together, thus allowing only for the building of worker cells and forcing drone cells to the outer fringes of the comb. More recently, we can mention and condemn the encouragement from certain quarters to ‘cull’ drone pupae with the intention of reducing the population of Varroa destructor in our hives.

Other recent practices, such as the sterilization of woodwork and the use of plastics ensure that hives will be relatively free from any of the other minute creatures that evolved to sharing hollow logs and trees with bees. Yet now we are discovering that some of these little bugs may well hold the secret of how pests and diseases are kept at bay. Significantly, experiments with mites of the Stratiolelaps genus are proving successful at controlling Varroa and I suspect that the humble earwig and wood louse have parts to play.

The almost universal use of miticides over the last half century has turned our bee colonies from models of biodiversity into sterile mono-cultures, at the expense of a multitude of moulds, fungi and insects whose functions and interactions we can only guess at. Who knows what concurrent damage the pyrethroids and neonicotinoids, widely used in our insane, toxic agricultural system may have done, not only to the bees but to the soil, which supports all life.

It seems to me that the history of modern beekeeping is replete with examples of anti-drone behaviour by beekeepers, from ignorance of their true role in the colony and in direct contradiction of the needs and instincts of the honeybee queen. Conventional beekeepers, however much they may protest their love and devotion for their charges, are in fact negating the wishes of the bees by focussing their efforts on the fuel of this intricate system, rather than its true purpose: the production of high quality drones, without which Apis mellifera is doomed as certainly as the dinosaurs.

So ‘natural beekeepers’, with their focus on creating close-to-ideal environments for the use of honeybees and working in alignment with the desires of their queens are best placed to assure the future of the species, so long as they do not succumb to undesirable ‘modern’ tendencies.

Amazing Honey Bee Facts

I think we should get ourselves some honey bee facts, after all so many healing and health-promoting opportunities for the humans begin with this little busy creature. As you read the following 20 statements about honey’s great creator, you will be so intrigued just like me by this teensy-weensy fellow’s extraordinary abilities.

1. The honey bee has been around for 30 million years.

2. It is the only insect that produces food eaten by man.

3. Honey bees are environmentally friendly and are vital as pollinators.

4. They are insects with a scientific name – Apis mellifera.

5. They have 6 legs, 2 eyes, and 2 wings, a nectar pouch, and a stomach.

6. The honeybee’s wings stroke 11,400 times per minute, thus making their distinctive buzz.

7. A honey bee can fly for up to six miles, and as fast as 15 miles per hour, hence it would have to fly around 90,000 miles – three times around the globe – to make one pound of honey.

8. The average honey bee will actually make only one twelfth of a teaspoon of honey in its lifetime.

9. It takes about 556 workers to gather 1 pound of honey from about 2 million flowers.

10. It takes one ounce of honey to fuel a bee’s flight around the world.

11. A honey bee visits 50 to 100 flowers during a collection trip.

12. A colony of bees consists of 20,000-60,000 honeybees and one queen.

13. Worker honey bees are female, live 6 to 8 weeks and do all the work.

14. The queen bee lives for about 2-3 years and is the only bee that lays eggs. She is the busiest in the summer months, when the hive needs to be at its maximum strength, and lays up to 2500 eggs per day.

15. The male honey bees are called drones, and they do no work at all, have no stinger, all they do is mating.

16. Each honey bee colony has a unique odour for members’ identification.

17. Only worker bees sting, and only if they feel threatened and they die once they sting. Queens have a stinger, but don’t leave the hive to help defend it.

18. It is estimated that 1100 honey bee stings are required to be fatal.

19. Honey bees communicate with one another by “dancing”.

20. During winter, honey bees feed on the honey they collected during the warmer months. They form a tight cluster in their hive to keep the queen and themselves warm.

My most memorable honey bee fact is No 19: Honey bees communicate with one another by “dancing”. And the most incredible to me is No 2: It is the only insect that produces edible food for man!

The Status of Standard English in English Linguistic Tradition

The question about the history of Standard English language and the essence of this concept remains topical for a long time. At the present time the British and American linguists are at variance on what Standard English is. The standard language is understood as the variety of English language, dominant in social and cultural terms, as well as a dialect of social upper strata or Interlingua, devoid of territorial and some extent social restrictions… .

The term standard language began to appear in English in the beginning of XVIII century. The term Standard English was preceded by Queen’s English (king’s English), for the first time marked by Geoffrey Chauser in the XIV century, as well as the soft-spoken language (polite language), which became widespread in the XVII – XVIII centuries.

The Royal English was a linguistic model in pronunciation for a long time, but it was the speech not only of queens and kings, but the speech of the court society as a whole. Royal English language understood as a standard language for educated people. The main component of the King’s English was an accent in pronunciation. Soon people began to connect accepted pronunciation with the availability of the power, education and material well-being. As noted Т.Crowley, British sociolinguist, the term of the Queen’s English does not apply to an idiolect of any particular sovereign (monarch), but to the adopted and institutional form of language. As the sovereign, the King’s English is a symbol in the sense that it brings together all the media of the English language. The possession of King’s English clearly distinguishes some speaking as a citizen of England, and requires a response to the devotion of the language. More than that, it, as the sovereign, should be protected from ill-treatment. Currently, the Queen’s English language is not used as a sample speech of the Royal court, but only indicates a competent, pure speech of educated people on the British variant of English language.

As a result of infatuation of British society the concept of politeness, the term Queen’s English was replaced by polite language. In this term, undoubtedly, there is a social component: people of polite society speak polite language, i.e. representatives of the social elites. Lexical filling of the language was contrasted with the language of the barbarian: it was forbidden to use even colloquial words and expressions, professional words, including archaisms and scientific terms. Speech activity has also undergone certain changes: it was supposed to have a certain manner of behavior – the person should be able to keep up the conversation in any situation and to behave naturally.

As we can see, the use of both variants didn’t practically differ. It should be noted that the polite language applied more to the oral speech, rather than to the written and to the oral literary salon culture that played a significant role in the formation of the literary languages of Europe.

In the twentieth century another term appeared for denoting the exemplary form of the English language. It was called BBC English. The name of the influential British radio company, a leading broadcast in many countries of the world was in the basis of this concept. The BBC was created for the enhancement of the cultural and educational level of the audience, increasing of language standards, as well as to foster the unity of the nation. Received Pronunciation (RP) (adopted by the standard pronunciation) was chosen as an exemplary standard. For a long time the speech of announcers of this company was sounded in different parts of the world and has become synonymous of the correct English. However, the term BBC English applies, first of all, to the oral speech, while Standard English is associated with a written discourse. He could replace RP, but at the present time according to the principle of political correctness among the speakers of the BBC there are the bearers of local accents. Thus, now the BBC English is just orthoepic standard, oriented on speaking another language audience.

XX century revived the interest directly to the formulation of Standard English, because it talked about the specialists from the field of Anglistics studies. It was appointed as a term in the scientific circulation and education that does not solve the question with the definition of its status: whether he is a language or a dialect?

In the opinion of P.Trudgill, the standard language cannot be called a language in the fullest sense of the term: it can be the most important among the many dialects of the English language; usually it is used in writing forms, especially in print and in the oral speech it is used by educated native speakers. This diversity associated with the system of education in all English speaking countries. Exactly Standard English is taught to non-native speakers as a foreign or second native language.

It is noteworthy that Standard English isn’t associated with standard pronunciation. RP is a standardized accent of the English language, and not the standard of the English language. The informants of Standard English are found in all English-speaking countries, and, of course, they speak with a different accent, and they differ from the standard RP depending on whether they are from Scotland, USA, New Zealand, etc.

A number of authors adheres to a common point of view, that Standard English is … a dialect of the social upper strata, forcibly imposed by the social elite on the broad masses of people. However, now the point of view of the standard language as a social dialect is not admitted by all linguists, since not all its informants belong to the upper strata. If to speak about the social status of Standard English, many authors have put the emphasis not so much at the prestigious social status of the informants, but on their high intellectual level.

At the present time there is no common understanding of the nature of Standard English, therefore the problem of the definition of Standard English essence is very relevant for the English-speaking researchers. And its status and the relationship with other forms of the existence of the English language still are the subject of lively debate.

Attract and Seduce Sexy Women: How To Avoid Going For The Wrong Type Of Girls

A lot of guys fail miserably in seducing the woman of their

choice simply because, in most cases…they’re going after the

wrong type of girl completely. You see, from a human

psychology perspective, we are most compatible with only

certain personality “types,” and they are known as our

personality matches. Now, what do we mean by “personality

match?”

It is easy to think that this word, “match” means that you

are best suited to a woman who has EXACTLY THE SAME

personality as you. But you would be wrong according to the

psychologists. Ever heard the statement “opposites attract?”

Well, this is really where it comes from. And as a man, your

personality match is the woman whose personality type is

exactly OPPOSITE to yours on something known as the

“personality profile.” Let me explain the 4 basic types of

personalities which make up this personality profile:

The Queen: This is a girl who is naturally an introvert,

kind of likes keeping to herself. A bit on the quiet side.

Other character traits of the queen include: she’s caring,

always trying to keep the peace and please everyone. Lots of

conscience, very sensitive. And she’s very logical and

organised, doesn’t like to take too many risks in her life.

She might be involved in careers such as accounting and

medicine.

The Warrior: The only thing this girl has in common with the

queen is that she is also very logical and methodical in

their approach to life. But on the other hand, she is not as

sensitive. She believes in fighting hard battles like the

name “Warrior” suggests. You’ll find a lot of warriors are

probably involved in highly competitive sports. She’s

ruthlessly ambitious and will stop at nothing to get what

she wants in life. Some warriors might be entrepreneurs or

very highly efficient workers like law enforcement officers.

The Lover : These girls are very creative. They are a bit on

the quiet side like the queen. She’s most likely a dreamer,

very philosophical and tends to be drawn to activities like

wring poetry, painting and music. She’s very laid back and

has a rather romantic view of the world. On the other hand

she can be very dis-organised, with her thoughts all over

the place, she’s not very logical, unlike the queen.

The Magician : These girls always want to be the center of

attention. She’s very loud, and will tend to be a natural

exhibitionist. She will always be the life and soul of the

party. You’ll find that she has a natural liking for careers

like pop music and acting, anything which will feed her need

for constant attention in society.

Now, these personality types apply to men as well, so to

know which group you belong to, just see which

characteristics best describe you. So for example if you are

very logical and sensitive, you’d be a King (which is

exactly the same as the queen). But as I said earlier, in

terms of sexual compatibility, your personality match is

that woman who is the DIRECT OPPOSITE personality type to

you. So for example if you’re a King in personality, your

direct opposite is the Magician, if you’re a Warrior, your

opposite is the Lover.

And if you find this “opposite” girl, you are likely to feel

deeply attracted to each other and even in some cases, feel

the chemical reaction known as “love.” In other words, you

are likely to experience a strong physical and spiritual

attraction towards your female opposite.

You will also find that being with this person feels like

you have discovered the missing part of yourself. And it

will be much easier for you to seduce this type of girl

because there is already this strong, natural and biological

connection between you. But if you go for girls who are

either the same personality as you or not exactly opposite

to you, (for example a Warrior with a King) you’ll find it

much more difficult to attract and seduce her because the

connection is missing. So bear this in mind when meeting

women you want to date and seduce and you’ll be pleasantly

surprised what a HUGE difference it will make.

Undead and Unwelcome by Mary Janice Davidson Book Review

Betsy Taylor does it again in the eighth installment of the Undead series, Undead and Unwelcome by Mary Janice Davidson. No longer unwed (but still very much in her thirties), Betsy tries juggling all the responsibilities of being the Queen of the Vampires and being Sinclair’s wife. But as if these aren’t enough, Betsy has to deal with her best friend’s death; taking Antonia’s body back to her pack might prove to be one of her biggest obstacles yet. Oh, and then there’s her half-sister. Being undead really makes Betsy want to be anything else but.

Davidson makes the undead very much alive (ironic, I know) in her Undead series and this one just makes me want the days to move faster so that I can get my own copy already. Betsy is warm, funny, and real-traits that keep you coming back for more of her. A lot of us have loved Betsy in her previous installment because of her growth as a person-and as a vampire queen as well. We’ve all read how she struggled with her humanity and with her immortality; now, we’re bound to see more how that has shaped her both as Betsy and as the Queen of the Vampires. Who ever said being undead was easy? Surely, not Betsy.

Undead and Unwelcome is not just your average vampire story where everything is dark and goth-looking; it actually reminds me of the real world more than anything else. It is quite rare for an author to manage such a feat. Also, the good thing about Davidson’s Undead series is that even if she focuses on Betsy, she makes sure that her supporting characters are as interesting and as funny as her main character is. That’s a very hard job to accomplish but Davidson pulls it off effortlessly. Come June, I’m sure Undead and Unwelcome by MaryJanice Davidson will be one of the most sought-after books-not only for her fans but also for the ones who need a refreshing and vampiric look at life.

Essential Oils – Rose Carries the Highest Vibrational Frequency of All the Essential Oils

Rose is in the rose family of botanical plants. Now there are lots of roses but have you noticed that the roses you buy today do not smell? That’s because they are bred for beauty and shelf life and they actually do not produce an essential oil. In fact only two roses produce a quality essential oil. The damask rose (Rosa damascena) is the one that has been distilled since the 16th century for its finest oil. Hildegard of Bingen in the 12th century states that

“Rose strengthens any potion or ointment or any other medication when it is added to it.”

We know that this oil carries the highest frequency or vibration and when added to any other blend of oils, raises the total healing vibration of that blend. The Arab physician, Avicenna studied the healing power of rose at length and produced a whole book on it. Most likely, he was the first one to actually distill rose oil. Prior to that, rose water was produced by enfleurage, a process of pressing the petals along with a vegetable oil to extract the essence.

Traditionally, rose oil and rose water have been used for thousands of years for skin care. Evidence can be found for its use in ancient Egypt, Persia, India, Greece and Rome. Rose enhanced other treatments for the body and soul. This flower through the ages has been used especially for women with the Greeks referring to it as the “Queen of flowers.” The Virgin Mary has been referred to in the mystical tradition as the “Rose,” the “Mystic Rose,” the “Queen of the Most Holy Rose Garden,” and the “Holy Rose.” All of these are images of Mary as the Queen of all Heaven and Earth.

How Can Real Rose Oil Help Us Today?

Rose oil is excellent treatment for skin conditions including scarring and wrinkles. It has a cleansing and toning effect on the uterus and is helpful for menopausal symptoms. It is also used in the treatment of infertility and frigidity in women and to increase sperm count in men. It gives a sense of security and spiritual attunement, balancing and elevating the mind. It is an oil for the heart, keeping this emotional center open. It reduces depression and anger and eases sorrow, bringing harmony and comfort. Rose vibrates with the energy of universal, unconditional love and giving. It eases the sorrow of the soul, bringing harmony and comfort. It is gentle yet euphoric. For emotional healing, use rose to encourage contentment, devotion, inner vision, happiness, inner freedom, acceptance, completeness, patience, love, sensuality, and purity. this essential oil mixes well with jasmine, neroli, geranium, sandalwood, lemon, amber, Roman chamomile, ylang ylang, petitgrain, bergamot.

This oil may be diffused or used topically on the body. It can be used to anoint any of the energy centers or used on the healer’s hands and run through the energy field to balance and clear the energy. As for safety issues, rose oil is non-toxic, non-irritating and non-sensitizing. Want to learn more about the healing properties of rose and other essential oils? Consider becoming a certified aromatherapist. Educational courses in healing energy and aromatherapy can help you understand how essential oils heal the body/mind/spirit. The Institute of Spiritual Healing & Aromatherapy is offering courses throughout the United States on essential oils including rose oil.

Self Reflection – A Snow White Moment

Many of us are familiar with the fairytale of Snow White. The ending of this fairytale, the ending of most Fairytales are happy. What I want to focus on regarding the snow white fairytale is the evil Step-Mother’s mirror. In the fairytale, the vain Queen asks her mirror that possesses magical powers, “Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all?” and to which the mirror would always reply, “You are.” As time goes on, as baby Snow White becomes older, the mirror’s reply changes. “Queen, you’re the fairest where you are, but Snow White is more beautiful by far.”

It is safe to say, in the real world, the mirror didn’t talk back to the Queen. The Queen wasn’t handling her self-reflection very well. The Queen wasn’t accepting the changes happening with her physical appearance and mental state of mind. The Queen was in denial of where she was in her life. Denial can lead to self-destruction of mind, body and spirit. Many persons today refuse to do self-reflection.

Comfort zones are appealing to many people. We all can go to a place where we tell ourselves what we want to hear but in reality what we want to hear and what we see can be very different. I am a believer in self-reflection. It gives you that one on one moment with self. It is so easy to cross-examine others but not so easy to cross-examine ourselves. I would like to share with you how I self-reflect, which brings about positive results.

1. Love of self. I love myself, quirks and all. Perfection is not who I am but a work in progress best describes me. I am not setting myself up for failure. I understand there will be trials in this life I am living, so I am equipt with self love to handle what comes my way.

2. Examining my relationships personally and professionally. I ask myself many questions during this examination of self. How did I treat this person? How did I handle that situation? Am I too self-absorbed? This is an humbling experience when you are being totally honest with yourself.

3. Examining where I am in my life personally and professionally. Have I met goals I made for myself? Are my goals realistic? Do I need help from others to succeed in my goals? What changes have I noticed about myself? How do I feel about those changes? How do I feel about where I am in life? This examination helps brings clarity to your life.

4. Forgiving Self, Accepting Self, and Moving Forward in life. This is pretty much self explanatory.

Another name I call Self-Reflection, is ‘Cleaning House’. When dust builds up in a home it is not appealing. Once your home is clean, it is appealing again. Be a breath of fresh air for self first and then your inner light will radiate outward. As a public figure, public speaker, and a role model to some, I make sure my life living isn’t a reflection of negativity. I live the life in private that I display in public.

I encourage you to regularly do self-reflection. Make it a part of your lifestyle. Doing so will bring great results in your personal and professional life. You will handle situations that arise with a calm demeanor, you never knew existed. The mind, body and spirit will be in sync and this only makes a better best you. Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all? If you have truly self-reflected, you are the fairest of your all. Your all is self and the life you lead. This has been your Snow White moment.

Royal Jelly and Bee Pollen – How They Benefit Your Health

Royal jelly and bee pollen are two of the many natural products from bees which work side by side in providing wonderful health benefits for humans. These natural foods nourish and revitalize one’s body making it one of the most favorite food supplements of all time. Believe it or not, these super foods are said to be very effective in providing so many health benefits to the point that they can provide you with a longer and more enjoyable life.

What is royal jelly and bee pollen anyway?

Royal jelly is a complex chemical structure produced by the young nurse bees as larva food. The larvae eat the royal jelly as their only food for two to three days during their maturation stage. When a queen larva is born, she starts to eat the royal jelly for the rest of her life. It’s her only food and nothing else is fed to her other than royal jelly even when she becomes the colony’s queen someday. The ordinary worker bee larvae reach their maximum development after the three days feeding period. Their original weight is increased by 250 times more. The queen larva reaches her maturity five days earlier compared to the worker bees and her weight is doubled that of a working bee.

One noticeable difference between the queen and the worker bees is their average life span. The worker bee’s life only lasts about 35 to 40 days maximum, while the queen fed only with royal jelly her entire life lives five to six long years. This proves that royal jelly can bring humans longer lifespan. Royal jelly contains various B-complex vitamins, vitamin C, some traces of amino acids, simple sugars, fatty acids, minerals, enzymes, as well as some antibacterial and antibiotic components.

Royal jelly also contains the important acetylcholine, a compound needed to transmit nerve messages from cell to cell. Too little of this compound makes individuals prone to Alzheimer’s disease. The growth of glial cells and neural stem cells in the brain are stimulated by royal jelly. This positive attribute proves to be very beneficial for cases of Parkinson’s disease. Royal jelly is also known for prolonging youthfulness, improving the skin beauty, increasing energy, alleviating anxiety, sleeplessness, moodiness, memory loss, and bolstering the immune system.

Collected pollens that are mixed with honey and other enzymes from the honeybees’ bodies are called bee pollens. This type of pollen contains a rich source of vitamins, minerals, proteins and amino acids. The pollen also contains hormones, enzymes and fats, as well as significant quantities of natural antibiotics, antihistamine, and rich antioxidant properties.

The pollen from the bee not only increases energy levels of the body, but also rejuvenates the body. The pollen also corrects the deficient or unbalanced nutrition caused by present day lifestyles, as well as stimulates various organs and glands, aiding recovery from chronic illness, adding weight during recuperation, aiding in weight loss by reducing cravings, reducing addictions, even from smoking and drinking, building new blood, preventing infectious diseases, providing protection against radiation, as well as providing preventive measures against cancer, enhances vitality, thus providing man with a longer life span.

As you can see, royal jelly and bee pollen health benefits are very much needed especially at present times’ given health risks due to the environment’s heavy pollution. There are some bee products available in some health food shops that are already combined with royal jelly. By consuming the food supplement with the proper combination of bee pollen and royal jelly, you will be able to enjoy a healthier and longer life.

The English Aristocracy and Their Bed Warmers

Before the age of the hot water bottle, how did people make a cozy bed? The answer, as far as the English aristocracy was concerned, was to use a human hot water bottle. A servant would be dispatched to the master’s freezing bed to act as a bed warmer. Then, when his lordship had quaffed his port and scoffed his quails he would retire to his four poster, turn out the human water bottle and climb in to his, by now, warmer bed. His own personal, breathing hot water bottle!

Years later, when Prince James, heir to the British throne was born in 1688, a bed warmer was at the heart of the plot to disinherit him. Rumour was spread that Queen Mary had miscarried and that a warming pan had been sent for. The plotters convinced her subjects that a peasant’s baby had been substituted for the stillborn Prince; smuggled into the Queen’s boudoir hidden in a bed warmer! The doubts about the baby Prince’s legitimacy, and the desire of the plotters to remove the catholic line of succession, forced the Queen to flee to France for the safety of the “Bed warmer Prince”. He never did succeed to the British throne. When he invaded 20 years later, he was defeated by the English fleet, and George I was instead crowned King of England. He was denied his birthright because of a bed warmer!

The bed at the centre of the “Bed warmer Prince” scandal is housed at Kensington Palace, the old home of Princess Diana. The bed warmer incident played a huge part in the birth of future royal babies. It was decreed that a senior government figure must be present in the Queen’s bedchamber, negating the possibility of any future skulduggery and thus removing all doubt about the true identity of a royal baby. It was only when Queen Victoria gave birth to her first child that Prince Albert banned the practice, deeming it:” Ridiculous!” A bed warmer indeed!
