Types of War

War has been defined in various ways. For present purposes, we may define was as sustained intergruop violence in which state military forces participate on at least one side or on both sides in the case of interstate war and generally on only one side is the case of civil war. In a world of standing military forces it is hard to say exactly where peace ends and war begins. A military battle that is not sustained over time may or may not be considered a war. The brief Chinese-Soviet border clashes in March and July 1969, for example, entailed several small battles at a few points along the border, in which some hundreds of people were killed. Similarly ambigous is a long term violent struggle involving irregular forces, such as in Northern Ireland. There, uniformed British military forces waged a sustained violent struggle with a non state army, the Irish Republican Army (IRA), until a cease-fire that has held on and off since 1995.

Thus, many different activities are covered by the general term war. Consequently, it is not easy to say how many wars are going on in the world at the moment. Wars are very diverse. Several types of war tend to arise from different situations and play different sorts of roles in bargaining over conflicts. Starting from the largest wars, we may distinguish the following main categories.

Hegemonic War is a war over control of the entire world order – the rules of the international system as a whole, including the role of world hegemony. This class of wars is also known as global war, world war, general war or systemic war. The last hegemonic war was World War II.

Total War is warfare by one state waged to conquer and occupy another. The goal is to reach the capital city and force the surrender of the government, which can then be replaced with one of the victor’s choosing. The 2003 Iraq War is a classic case. Napoleonic Wars, which introduced large-scale conscription and geared the entire French International economy toward the war effort. In total war, the entire society mobilized for the struggle, the entire society of the enemy is considered a legitimate target.

Limited War includes military actions carried out to gain some objective short of the surrender and occupation of the enemy. For instance, the U.S led war against Iraq in 1991 retook the territory of Kuwait but did not go on to Baghdad to topple Saddam Hussain’s government. Many border wars have this character; after occupying the land it wants,a state may stop short and defend its gains.

Civil War refers to war between factions within a state trying to create, or prevent, a new government for the entire state or some territorial part of it. The U.S Civil War of the 1860’s is a good example of a secessionist civil war.

Guerrilla War which includes certain kinds of civil wars is a warfare without front lines. Irregular forces operate in the midst of and often hidden or protected by, civilian populations. The purpose is not to directly confront an enemy army but rather to harass and punish it so as to gradually limit its operation and effectively liberate territory from its control.

In short, Wars are constantly taking place between states as well as in the states since the inception of history itself. It will remain till the world exists because of various desires of individuals and state-actors as well.

Are You Weary to the Bone With Grief?

If you are, you’re not alone. The stress of grief is debilitating and it’s experienced by many after the loss of a loved one. Grief has the capacity to bring us to our knees physically as well as emotionally. We can feel totally exhausted, knackered, wiped out and depleted. How about spent, fatigued, and crippled with tiredness? There are many more descriptions of the bone crushing weariness that grief and loss leaves in its wake.

It can take us off-guard, this crippling weariness and physical struggle. Every little thing becomes a major feat and a major test of endurance. When you consider what has happened though, it’s not surprising. Yet often we do indeed find it most surprising!

This is some or most of what has come before:

Days, weeks, months or years of care-giving.

Days, weeks, months or years of watching a loved one struggle.

An unexpected call or knock at the door telling you of something horrific and unbelievable.

Having to make life and death decisions often at a moment’s notice.

Unexpected travel and associated costs.

Surrounded by happy faces in the maternity ward.

Organising a funeral service when you’re numb with pain.

Government bureaucracy.

Financial worries.

Unpaid leave or pending unemployment.

Expectations.

The feeling of being so alone and unsupported.

Dealing with the missing and the longing every single moment.

Crying day and night.

Grief triggers.

The paper jungle.

Worrying about everyone else.

And the list goes on. You could add to it I’m sure but it’s revealing isn’t it?

All of the above is stressful beyond measure. It tests you to the limits of what you ever believed you were capable of enduring and more! Dealing with the emotional fallout of those experiences can be utterly exhausting. It takes over your body and you can feel it creep into the very marrow of your bones.

Then on top of all that you have to find some resources within yourself to keep on keeping on with the routine of daily living. Anna from Pleasant View Schoolhouse writes, “Grief is exhausting. It is the difficulty of existing in two worlds at a time.” Amidst the intense pain of dealing with your grief you have to keep a home running, talk with people, get back to work, be alone for the first time in years and much, much more.

Often having this awareness about where you have come from and what you are dealing with on a daily basis is enough for you to take pause. It is enough for you to recognise your great strength in living after loss and it is enough for you to say to yourself, “No wonder I feel tired!”

With that awareness of your circumstances, it may then become easier to accept the need for more rest, for gentleness to yourself, for time out from demanding schedules and a focus on self-nurturing and the restoration of your aching body and hurting heart.

A Thought for Farmer’s Struggles

India is an agricultural nation. A large number of the Indian individuals are farmers. They are the foundation of the nation. They deliver the sustenance crops and the oil-seeds. They create the commercial crops. They create some crude materials for our businesses. Thus, they are the backbone of our country.

The farmers of India are the most diligent workers in the whole of the world. They are constantly occupied in the cultivating for the yields by working night and day. They use to work under the hottest weather conditions and even in the rain. They don’t have the dread of any season, yet they have just the dread that their crops will grow great and yield good results.

They use to wake-up at an early hour toward the beginning of the day prior to the sun-rise and they rest after the sunset. They get the best sleep since they are doing the most hardworking job in the world that is the cultivating. They use to furrow the land and in that they sow the seeds for the development of the harvests. In their opinion, the best yields are the gold for them. They haven’t any enthusiasm for the gold or the silver or any sorts of the cosmetic agents. Their gold is the harvests they grow. Like the guardians do for their children, farmers watch the crops in the day night. They turn into the guardians of the yields to protect them from the steers that are straying.

When the crops grow into plants and the crops are ready for harvesting, they again take a watch over the hoodlums that may come to steal the harvests. At the point when the harvests prepare for the cutoff, they procure the crops and took that to home. The Indian rancher does not own an appropriate home.

Struggles of Farmers:

• Instability:

Agriculture in India is to a great extent relies upon rain. Therefore, generation of grains vacillates a seemingly endless amount of time. A time of abundant yield of grains is frequently trailed by a time of intense lack. This, in its turn, prompts value salary and business vacillations.

• Infertile Land:

Another real issue in charge of low rural efficiency is that the soil is contaminated by the expanding level of the stream and channel contamination which is caused by high mechanical effluents and poisonous metals step by step. Moreover, soil disintegration which is one of the critical foundations for corruption is additionally occurring at a fast pace by gorges and chasm arrangement, waterlogging, and moving cultivation. Improper utilization of composts and pesticides likewise causes the absence of supplements in the land that is vital for healthy agricultural efficiency.

• Unorganized Agricultural Procedures:

Farming is to a great extent a disorderly division. No deliberate institutional and hierarchical management is associated with development, water system, collecting and so on. Institutional finances are not enough accessible and least purchase tag settled by the administration don’t reach the poorest agriculturist.

• Illiteracy:

Illiteracy, the absence of awareness about ongoing advancements in the field of agriculture, and poor financial foundation of the ranchers are a portion of the major purposes behind consistently diminishing farming profitability. Likewise, an abnormal state of the income gap amongst rich and poor ranchers, rural and nonhorticultural workers are responsible for the non-satisfaction of even the essential necessities of Indian agriculturists

• Economically Unstable:

Deficient finance, untimely fund and conflicting or opposing strategies of government have exasperated agriculturists’ issues seriously.

• Economic Exploitation:

Exploitation by the middle person is the reason set forth for not getting the best cost for the deliveries of the agriculturists. The administration ought to advance the arrangement called Farmers Market, where the agriculturists can specifically pitch their items at sensible cost to the customers.

• Unavailable Government Plans:

Be that as it may, the vast majority of the sponsorships and welfare plans reported by the Central and State governments don’t achieve the poor ranchers in Indian horticulture. Despite what might be expected, just enormous landowners are profited by those plans.

• High Indebtedness:

The main cause of agriculturists ending their lives is the expansion in their obligation and debt trouble. Over the top loan, costs must be announced illicit and the legislature needs to take strict measures against covetous cash banks. Simple access to institutional credits needs to achieve the small and peripheral agriculturists, without lumbering systems.

Solutions to the farmers:

 Multiple Crops:

Development of multi harvests, for example, coconut, pineapple, ginger, banana, apple, turmeric, papaya will yield gainful outcomes to the agriculturists.

 Use of New Techniques:

Research endeavors should proceed to the creation of harvests with higher yield potential and better protection from bugs in Indian farming. Innovative headway in agribusiness ought to be passed down to the poor ranchers. Where the current harvests would not do well under drought and climate conditions, the ranchers ought to be moved to developing yields that would be simple and conservative to develop.

 Farmers Education:

In spite of the fact that education in urban zones has enhanced a great deal, the administration has overlooked the same in provincial zones as a rule and in a farming area specifically. This is the motivation behind why ranchers are not sufficiently aware of the different plans given by the administration.

 Crop Insurance:

Yield insurance is must and the claim ought to be settled effortlessly under the supervision of the area authorities. Customary harvest protection relies upon the immediate estimation of the harm endured by a rancher to decide his/her payout. Be that as it may, field misfortune evaluation is regularly not plausible or costly since the greater part of our ranchers are smallholders. Record-based protection, then again, reacts to the characterized parameter. Index based protection has the focal points that it is straightforward and every one of the backup plans inside the characterized land territory are dealt with similarly.

 Better Irrigation Facilities:

Mostly, it isn’t the absence of water yet the absence of a legitimate water administration that causes water deficiency. Enhanced present day techniques for rainwater reaping ought to be created. Water administration can be made more powerful through interstate co-task on water assets, where surplus water from enduring streams can be occupied to the destitute territories.

Title: Prism, By: Roland Allnach – Book Review

Quite an intriguing and thought-provoking storyteller. Each piece in this collection is literally and figuratively engaging. In short, Allnach’s abilities as a storyteller in transporting the reader to fantastic worlds is obvious, but these tales also lend themselves to allegorical comparison with current issues, private to sociological. The wide cast of characters in this collection range from the pathetic to the triumphant to the homicidal and psychotic. The collection could have aptly been called “Tragedy and Comedy” but that would have been too cliché. There is plenty of tragedy, some comedy, numerous elements of the surreal and always with hints of suspense. He keeps you guessing. In this collection, you will find short stories reminiscent of Poe’s style of the grotesque, troubled mind. You will also find epic poetry, Shakespearean tragedy, and occasionally some comic relief. There is something for everyone, but the roads in most of these stories dark and paradoxically laden with hope and hopelessness.

The final story, “Dissociated” is on the cyclic nature of things, writing, and life. A nice way to close, considering the first story, “After the Empire,” is about the end of things. Although there is a wide range of issues and genres in Prism, there is the sense of a continuum, much like a concept album where the songs exist on their own but somehow synthesize together. The soldier in “After the Empire” willingly fights for a lost cause. The protagonist in “11” fights against his own subconscious. The critic in “Icon” fights against the media’s sycophantic infatuation with celebrity; and thereby fights against himself. So, there is this continuum of struggle, reflection, rebuilding, reconciliation. In “Memento,” Henry tries to reconcile by reaching out to his enemy’s family. Internal psychological struggle and actual war parallel each other like the two faces of a prism, with multiple angles of introspection and allegorical interpretation on the sides. Dark as they are, they invite the reader to look at struggle as difficulty but also as an accepted challenge, and there is optimism in that pessimism. It’s not all Sisyphean. Allnach provides levity with the nose-picker in “The Great Hunter” and the poem “Tumbleweed” otherwise titled “An Ode to a Well Endowed Gunslinger.”

I have to mention “Beheld” as a really interesting look on creation itself. But where Allnach really goes out on a limb is with “Titalis” and “Typhon and Aerina.” Titalis is a tragedy with Shakespearean themes and the flowery language to boot. “Typhon and Aerina” is an epic poem written in classical style. This makes an interesting juxtaposition in the collection; so much science fiction is set in the future, but these are ambiguous as they could be in the distant past, the distant future, or in some parallel universe. This calls to mind the Family Guy mockery of Star Wars noting the tale is “in a galaxy far, far away but somehow in the future.” Kidding aside, this is the mark of a good science fiction writer; to give tales some linear ambiguity, leaving it up to the reader to decide if they’ve already happened or have yet to be.

MLM Prospects – 4 Simple Steps To Recruiting More Prospects

Ever wondered how some individuals can join any MLM company they like and within a few short weeks be the number one income earner? Others spend months or even years working outrageous hours every day and struggle to make a penny. So how do they do it? It’s not magic, and it’s not because they were in the right place at the right time. In fact it’s very simple. They understand how MLM works and the psychology of why it works. When you understand the ‘how’ and the ‘why’ you can predict the outcome and ‘when’ its going to occur. What you don’t see is the months or sometimes years of struggle and the learning curve it took to accomplish these results.

Here is 4 simple steps that will help you turn prospects into business partners, so you can do this in any MLM company you like.

1. Getting Prospects To Chase You.

The sad truth is, 95% of MLM distributors struggle in this industry because they are chasing prospects and targeting the wrong people. Most distributors are busy chasing friends and family, handing out business cards, holding weekly meetings, buying useless opportunity leads and making cold calls. Do you see the issue here?

When you chase them, prospects instantly have there guard up and most individuals have very little interest in the opportunity your trying to shove down their throat. Despite what your upline says, these are NOT your target audience. How much success have you had building your business this way? This may shock you, but your target audience is believe it or not, other struggling network marketers.

You must get prospects to come to you if you want success in your MLM business. How do you achieve this? Simple, you advertise! Prospects will see your ad and click on it if they are interested. This way you don’t have to manually sort through the tyre kickers and you can focus your time and energy on prospects that are really interested in what you have to offer. You also need somewhere to send them after they click on your ad. Use a website you created or use an MLM system to capture their name and email address. This converts them into a lead.

2. Educating Your Leads

Now that you have converted your prospects into leads, you must communicate by educating them. This is achieved by using an auto-responder to automatically send helpful content to their email address. This shows them your committed to helping them accomplish success and automatically builds a relationship and trust. This is absolutely crucial if you want to recruit them into your primary business opportunity.

3. Making Money From Your leads

When you consistently send your leads useful content that can help them, they begin to see you as an expert and take your emails seriously. As you do this you can intermittently send them recommend ebooks or courses to further their knowledge and help them in their business. Simply attach your affiliate link to the eBook and when they make a purchase, you will make a commission. It’s a win-win situation.

4. Sponsoring Leads Into Your Primary MLM Business

Since you have sent helpful content on a regular basis and you are perceived as an expert, you can also recommend your primary MLM business opportunity. This allows you to sponsor new distributors straight into your downline automatically and dramatically increase your income. Since you have also educated your prospects and showed them how they can succeed in MLM, they will also grow their business, which also grows your downline. Even if your leads decide not to join your business you still make money from your affiliate programs. Have you ever made a profit from someone that said ‘NO’ to your business?

Are You Struggling With Your Master Cleanse Diet? What You Need to Do To

As anyone who has been on a diet knows that the first couple of days can be exhilarating. You are excited at the potential results you are going to gain, it something new to your mundane routine and you have a sense of self empowerment actively taking control of your body. You think this is going to be great! And I can’t wait until I get into that summer dress again. I am going to look so good!

Then somewhere along the line, the diet becomes a burden. Usually this happens around the middle of your new diet program. This is an experience we all have had at some point. Small setbacks or disappointment in your expected results can turn into huge source of concerns and we get discouraged and depressed about our weight loss. Then we start questioning ourselves. Am I doing it right? What is wrong with me? Why have I not lost more weight? You either tend to blame yourself or blame the diet or maybe both.

This is a normal response to any diet regime. It is an emotional roller coaster. What you have to remember is this is a process that has natural highs and lows and your body will react to your new regime differently for each day of your diet program. This is absolutely normal and you should not give up or blame yourself at all. You are taking an important step toward greater health and your body and mind have to adjust to these changes you are employing. No one really likes change and neither does your body. You might even experience a rebellion from your own internal system.

But take heart, your body will catch up and get with the program after it surrenders to the new way of being. Likely, sugar, salt and fat cravings are the most difficult to deal with on a moment to moment basis during the day. The body will crave and go through withdrawals for these things which can cause mood swings, depression, even headaches.

This is where you can get stuck in your new diet regime.

A favourite trick to combat craving is to stop and analyze what your body is really craving. For example if you are craving sugar, it means your body natural sugar levels may be a little low. Instead of grabbing a decadent candy bar, go for natural sugars like the sweet fruits of apples, oranges, pears. Salt craving can indicate a withdrawal of essential minerals of sodium and water. Sometimes salt cravings are the body way of telling you that you are getting dehydrated. Having a carafe of water with a couple of grains of organic salt crystals and lemon juice near by will do the trick. You can even have this in a bottle near your desk at work, so there is no excuse. There are lots of ways to trick the mind and satisfy what the body needs at the same time.

It hard to get over the mid journey challenge when you are trying so hard to achieve your goals. The greatest and most vital organ in any diet regime is your brain. Getting control over negative thinking, self criticisms and self defeating sabotage can be the culprit to crashing any good diet deed. Sometimes our expectations are too high. It is natural to want to make huge gains with little effort yet our expectations can be changed to reflect a more gentle approach to our diet goals. Create realistic expectations and remember that this is a process not a race. Each day can bring great gains and advance confidence and empowerment. All too often people just do not celebrate themselves enough. If you only lost half a pound instead of 2 pounds that you expected, it is not a failure. Celebrate the half pound weight loss. It is a great feat and better than gaining 10 pounds, so pat yourself on the back , jump for joy-literally, look in the mirror and smile with the pride of kings and queens. You will feel much better.

Another way to get unstuck is to start a diet journal. You can pour your private thoughts and pet peeves into the journal. You can have some great breakthroughs to discover why you continue a certain eating habit or even fall upon some wonderful self-discoveries and ideas that could empower your diet program. These are just a few ways for you to get unstuck and take control of your diet program toward great success.

Gymnastics Training Article – Cast Handstand on Uneven Bars

Many gymnastics coaches do not assign enough sport specific conditioning or understand the mechanics of the cast on bars. When the gymnast attempts to cast before her shoulders are in the correct position, her body goes out rather than up. She also has less momentum if she attempts to cast after her legs reach the front support position with her feet behind her. The gymnast’s legs do not have as efficient a cast as she does when she leans forward to see her knees before she casts.

A gymnast must see her knees before she attempts to cast. Her body must go from the pike position to nearly straight (hollow) position rather than from straight to arched for a proper cast handstand. In other words, a gymnast must get her shoulders over the bar before she attempts to kick her legs for the cast. She must compress well and lean forward enough to place her shoulders in a planche position. Many gymnasts do not understand the concept of keeping their feet in front of the bar (or seeing their feet) out of the kip before the cast. This is mostly a timing issue, but also a lack of understanding of the momentum and body shapes. With the cast handstand, if the timing is correct it will be much easier to form the correct shapes.

An arch in the back is not the proper body position for a cast to handstand. Many gymnasts arch because they are trying to cast from an already straight shape rather than from the compressed shape. Coaches should not allow their gymnasts to cast with an arch because that can easily become a bad habit which is very difficult to correct.

So many gymnasts also struggle with this skill because they lack the upper body strength required to lift their body. The cast handstand is a simulation of the front lateral raise exercise that many exercise enthusiasts perform with only with a fraction of their weight. As a fitness trainer, I have seen many female clients struggle with less than 5%-10% of their body weight during this exercise. Even the more advanced fitness enthusiasts and bodybuilders only use a fraction of their body weight with this exercise. A gymnast must be able to open the shoulder angle completely with a little momentum and enough strength to lift most of her bodyweight.

Perhaps, knowing this, the gymnastics coach can help their young gymnast progress toward their goal, the cast handstand, by allowing small increases in strength when using dumbbells or a toning bar for conditioning. A great step would be to use extremely light weights, such as wooden dowels to teach the mechanics of the cast. Once the mechanics are mastered, the young gymnast can graduate to a 1.5 – 2 pound dumbbell in each hand. Take precautions! Many children, although they have recently become accustomed to literally tossing their body weight around during gymnastics training, have no experience using weights for strength training.

Here is one very useful gymnastics drill that simulates the cast handstand.

The Straight Arm Cast / Lift Drill: Have your gymnast sit on the floor with their knees bent and back against padded wall. Next, have them hold two very light dumbbells with their palms facing the floor and the weights resting on the floor until they are ready to begin the exercise. Instruct your gymnast to raise their arms forward and upward toward the ceiling, simulating the cast to handstand. (front lateral raise) Once at the top of the lift, allow your gymnast to lower their arms\the weights by bringing their hands forward then to a low front position. Be sure you instruct your gymnast to keep their elbows nearly straight, but not locked on this drill. Once your gymnast has done an assigned number of repetitions, have them perform a tight hollow cast on bars. Remember, it will take time before your gymnast will build the strength to literally lift their body weight using this very small muscle group.

Here is another very useful gymnastics drill is using fitness bands or surgical tubing as the resistance.

Band Cast: Wrap a therapy band or surgical tubing around the base of very sturdy equipment, such as beam, vault, or bar base. Have your gymnast lie on their back and grasp the band or surgical tubing. Their feet should be closer to the base than their head and instruct your gymnast to bend their knees. Once your gymnast is in place, instruct them to hold the band very tight as they pull the band from their thighs toward the ceiling and then up toward their head while keeping their arms straight and close to their body. At this point your gymnast’s hands should be touching the floor and their arms should be close to their ears. Once they have completed the top portion of the exercise, allow them to return to the staring position. Instruct your gymnast to return the band slowly going toward the ceiling and then down toward their thighs. This should also closely simulate the cast to handstand.

After performing these drills frequently, your gymnast should become more accustomed to the feeling of lifting their arms forward and then up towards their head for the cast handstand.

Next, spot your gymnast for some cast handstand drills on bars. Have your gymnast start in a front support on the bar. Once they are in place, instruct them to cast. First, have them bend at their hips and lean forward. Instruct your gymnast to look for her knees. Once she can see her knees, instruct your gymnast to kick her legs up toward the wall behind her. Instruct her to push her hips off the bar and then push down on bar with her arms and upper body. Remember, your gymnast must remain tight and hollow throughout the skill. Be sure your gymnast leans well over the bar and be prepared for her to collapse if she lacks the strength necessary. Hold the front of her shoulder to prevent her arms from bending in addition to spotting her legs. Most gymnasts have a tendency to cast back and not up because they fail to lean forward enough. Once your gymnast’s hips are off the bar, you can catch her shins and hold them in the tight and hollow position. Make any corrections necessary at this point. Once you and your gymnast are comfortable with this position, instruct and help your gymnast to rock forward (planche) and back to gain strength in her abdominal and upper body muscles. Once your gymnast is comfortable remaining tight and hollow while you rock them forward and back, lift your gymnast up to the handstand. (Take precautions! Make sure your gymnast can remain tight and you are strong enough to spot.) You may need to add each step over the course of several weeks or months, depending upon the gymnast’s individual strength. After the correct handstand position has been attained, return your gymnast back to the bar in a front support position. Eventually, your gymnast should be able to perform several repetitions each turn.

Remember, good form is just as essential during casts as with all other gymnastic skills. The cast handstand takes a great deal of time and effort to achieve, but it can make the difference between the state champion and everyone else. There are more gymnastics drills and conditioning exercises for the cast handstand in the book, “Gymnastics Drills and Conditioning Exercises.”

Always keep safety in mind while training. Please remember that you are responsible for your own personal safety. If you are a coach you are responsible for the safety of your athletes.

Procrastination Vs Resistance – Get Unstuck and Move Forward Faster

Oftentimes, what looks like procrastination is more accurately called “resistance”. If you’re an entrepreneur, healer or artist who’s “stuck”, who feels like you’re in a loop of procrastination, what may be happening is “resistance”. What you’re seeing as the negative of “procrastination” is very probably your inner voice trying to guide you on an easier path to success. By reframing the experience as something that is actually working for your greater good and the good of those around you, you allow the solution to show itself.

By reframing procrastination as resistance, you get to move forward.

What usually happens…and why you stay stuck

Perhaps you’re an entrepreneur and you see something in your business that you think needs to be done, but you don’t do it.

You’re doing anything but “the thing that needs to be done”. You do the dishes, you pick lint off the floor…but you don’t do the “thing”.

Then you start to beat yourself up about not doing “the thing”. You talk to yourself about it. You tell yourself that “the thing” really isn’t that hard which then leads to more self-denigration because you say, “If it’s not hard, then what’s wrong with me?”

You ask yourself more questions, trying to figure out what’s going on. You ask yourself, “Why do I procrastinate?”, and in this state of mind, you typically get answers like, “Because I’m lazy… because I don’t know what I’m doing…because I don’t know what to do next.”

(Always be careful of the questions you ask because you will get answers. It’s the way the world works. Ask a question that’s going to get you positive results.)

We compound the struggle by calling resistance “procrastination”, and then we proceed to pound ourselves for being “bad”. Beating yourself up accomplishes nothing except keeping you stuck, keeping you where you are with your current results…or lack thereof. Both procrastination and resistance involve struggle. In one, the struggle has a negative feel to it. In the other, the struggle points you to your path. Here’s the difference.

Resistance – what you’re currently calling procrastination – is actually, many times, your soul’s wisdom trying to tell you that you are “off path”, that you’re trying to force a situation…that you’re struggling unnecessarily.

When you realize that procrastination is merely resistance, and it’s trying to point you to an easier way, one with fewer struggles, then you can become grateful. When you get to gratitude in any situation, even uncomfortable ones, you get to move forward at lightning speed. Resistance isn’t because you’re lazy or lack knowledge or any of those reasons.

How to handle resistance

Recognize resistance for what it is…an attempt at your higher self to keep you on your path. It’s an attempt to show you a better way, a more joyful way, a way that’s true for you. The resistance may be a sign that the action you are avoiding is not “spirit guided” or maybe it’s just not quite the right time. It can be a sign that the action is not the next step or that the deal is not the right one.

So, ask, “If I’m avoiding this step because it’s not the right step, then what is the next step?” Be willing to release the current plan. If you know that the next step is the one you need to take and you still resist, then the resistance is pointing out a fear. We were not meant to live in fear. So ask, “What is the fear I need to release?” In this case, the resistance is leading you to greater freedom.

So if you’re an entrepreneur, healer, artist or other business owner, and your business is stalling, stop calling it procrastination. Stop beating yourself up. Call it resistance and ask, “What am I resisting doing, being, or letting go?” Let this resistance guide you to a greater knowledge of yourself. Let it guide you to easier action and a more “struggle free” existence.

Let resistance guide you to greater success.

An Open Letter to Parents and the Public in General

An open letter to parents of young babies and children who struggle with developmental disorders and people in general.

To parents I applaud your courage, tenacity and undying love for your children struggling with developmental disorders or just being children.

To people in general, get over yourselves and show some empathy to those that struggle.

Breastfeeding and Mommy hood

Early this morning I went to the lab to get blood work done. I didn’t have an appointment. So I knew my wait wouldn’t be short. Just as I correctly assumed there were load s of people sitting in the waiting room. Some with appointments and some not. I came prepared with my headphones and a good audio book on my kindle. As I settled in to wait I immediately noticed a young mother with a young child. He couldn’t have been a year old yet. I noticed them because the child was active and just learning to walk and was into everything as in my opinion should be. He was exhibiting curious behavior. I saw the mother furtively look around as the little boy started removing magazines off the table onto the floor and she walked over and firmly but gently guided him back to their seat. She firmly stated,”No!” He must not make a mess.

With nothing else to do with his little curious and active mind, of course the child starts to cry and then began to pull on the mother’s blouse. Having been there myself and having friends with children I knew immediately what was happening. The child was breast fed and now wanted to be fed from mommy. Mommy had come prepared with a blanket. But I imagined with so many strangers eyes looking upon her and her child she would rather not have to feed her baby right now. She began to try to distract him by playing peek a boo with the blanket. This distracted him for a good two minutes and then he began pulling on her blouse more aggressively and whimpering even louder. Of course in the small room all eyes were on the mother. She was trying her best to calm him down by rubbing his head. Before giving in she even tried to distract him with a game on the phone. This only lasted about a minute before he got really frustrated and starting whimpering even louder trying to get out of her lap and get to what he wanted. Mommy’s milk! I saw mom look around again trying to console her child. I smiled hoping to encourage her that it was okay because he is a child. Some of the other looks around the room were not so friendly. They looked annoyed at the child whimpering. They look annoyed as the child pulled all of the magazines onto the floor. They look annoyed as the child played with the lock on the door. They looked annoyed as the child did what children do. They just looked annoyed.

The mother finally gave in and covered herself with the blanket and allowed the baby to feed. After the happy little camper was fed he was perfectly content with watching the movie on the cellphone his mom had. Soon after the mom was called back to get processed.

Love Tokens AKA Developmental Disorders

Midway through this observation another child about 10 years of age came into the lab with a parent/grandparent and two caregivers. I have to describe the child in order for you to get the entire picture. He was 10. How do I know this? The caregiver asked the parent or grandparent for his birth date as they were signing him in.

He had a helmet on his head and a sort of harness around his body with a short leash so his caregivers could keep track of him. Immediately, it was clear that the child had a or several developmental disorders. He was constantly moving involuntarily and making clucking, ticking noises with this tongue that were for lack of a better word unsettling if you had not seen it before. In my non expert opinion he exhibited sighs of Tourette syndrome and ADHD and perhaps Autism on some level. I’ve researched all of these disorders so it certainly seems plausible. Oh I forgot he had a cast on his arms as well. So it was clear he was a bit of danger to himself; i.e. the helmet. Again, from my non expert opinion the helmet was used to stop him from harming himself through sudden involuntary movements and the harness was to help his caregivers keep track of him.

The elderly gentlemen that was with him was remarkably calm. I wanted to tell him how much I admired him but I didn’t want to be offensive in anyway. You never know how people feel about these things. Some want to talk about their struggles and some don’t. I say parent or grandparent because he was an older gentlemen and looked to be in his 60’s and the boy as mentioned was 10 years old. He had two caregivers with him. I knew they were caregivers because they were in their caregiver garb and they helped to monitor and care for the boy.

At first the boy while making clucking sounds and excitable noises with his mouth and moving back and forth was sitting on the parent/grandparent lap. Just like any parent with their child the parent/grandparent was so loving and affectionate to this child. He would kiss him on the cheek in the spaces left by the helmet and when the boy would get extra excited (this happened anytime anyone moved to go back or walk in the door., so every few minutes he would jump up and down and make these clucking noises), the parent/grandparent would gently kiss him on the cheek and try to shush him and calm him down. Finally, one of the caregivers asked the older gentlemen if he wanted him to take him outside. In all fairness, he was making a lot of noise and I can see how people would look strange and annoyed if they were not used to it. But my heart went out to the parent/grandparent and this little boy. He couldn’t help what was happening to his body.

For the record, I don’t believe any of the strangers sitting in that room meant any real harm. No one said anything but if looks could kill. Their face said it all. Some muttered and looked away. Some just stared straight on at the little family. The older gentlemen was sitting in front of men so I never caught his eye but I could tell he was feeling a certain way. He made a comment out loud to no one in particular that the little boy had a lot of energy and he was like that all day every day. He kind of laughed it off. It reminded me of the old saying that sometimes you laugh to stop from crying. I imagined the older gentlemen was used to the stares so he never looked up. He constantly played with the little boy and when the little boy was taken outside he grabbed his phone to attend to. Making that statement said to me that he knew that many people were uncomfortable and this was not his first rodeo.

The little boy and his caregivers went outside and the older gentlemen stayed inside waiting to be called. I observed the little boy and his caregivers from the window while listening to my audio book. The little boy could not stop his constant clucking and involuntary movements. I could tell he was a handful. He sat in between the two caregivers. At one point the caregivers were not holding on to him, since he had been trying to wiggle from them ever since they sat down. With them not holding onto him, he bolted and took off in a run, it took both of them to corral him, he slipped right by the woman, but the man caregiver, was able to grab him before he ran into the street. This all happened in a few seconds. I could see why he had a harness on. I could see the danger he unknowing could bring to himself. Once they got him seated again, I watched the male caregiver kind of wrap the little boys legs around his own to constrain him and the other caregiver held on to his harness.

If someone just walking up might have seen this interaction between them they might have become alarmed and wondered why the little boy was being restrained. Mind you the little boy was not distressed. They were playing with him trying to keep him distracted. But he was physically restrained.

The older gentleman on his phone looked up every so often to see what was going on. Thankfully, he had not seen the little boy dart out of his caregiver’s hands, he did however see him physically restrained, but said nothing. I thought to myself I am sure this is a normal occurrence.

Finally, I was called back to get my blood drawn. As I was getting processed I heard the staff members discussing the little boy. I heard one say that, I can tell that must be xxxxx in the waiting room. They could tell by his distinctive tics and sounds he was making. The other commented that he was just there last week, she wondered why he was back again so soon. She hoped he was okay. I asked the nurse that attended me if they had a hard time getting blood form the little boy when he came in. She said its definitely an office effort. The father and caregivers had to hold him down the entire time. She didn’t know what disorder he had, she thought it might be some sort of autism, because he did not speak, he simply made the excitable clucking sounds.

When I walked out the little boy was back in the waiting room and he was making his noises and making the involuntary motions of his disorder while sitting on the older gentlemen’s lap and the older gentlemen was still caressing him, kissing him on the cheek and trying to keep him clam in this strange environment with strange people looking at him, some in curiosity and some in obvious annoyance.

I write this open letter to remind you of the struggles that parents go through when they find themselves in uncontrollable situations. No wants want their children to struggle with disorders developmental or otherwise. But you take the cards you are dealt and love and cherish every minute you have with the gifts you’ve been given. I am thankful there are loving parents out there that overcome the struggles they have every day. I know someone else who is thankful as well. Their children!

I encourage you the next time you see a struggling parent whether their child has a developmental disorder or just being children, that you offer a smile of encouragement or somehow convey to them that you understand. That smile goes a long way in taking away the feeling of trepidation and anxiety they are already dealing with going in a public place. Let’s not make it hard on them. Let’s make it easier. I so wanted to make an impassioned speech to the people in that waiting room. I wanted to stand up and give a speech about empathy and compassion. In all transparency they were all older people and seemingly far removed from their days of parenting or grand parenting for that matter. My impassioned plea would have been to ask every person in that room to put themselves in that young mother or older gentlemen shoes. How would they liked to have been treated? When they looked up from taking care of a child with uncontrollable movements and loud clucking noises, what faces and expressions would they like to greet them?

What if you were that young mother who was trying to calm an active baby down? Would you want to have to worry about the people around you and how they are feeling as you fed your baby. Often times we can’t have compassion other others until we find ourselves in similar situations. I hope you never have to deal with a similar situation, but If you do I hope you find the courage that it takes and gracefully step up to the challenge as the parents I saw today did.

Finally, why did I call developmental disorders love tokens? I think children with developmental disorders teach us a little something about love. That little boy although he may never be able to say it had undying love for his caregivers and the older gentlemen. He was completely in their care and believed they would do what is best for him. Even as he was being restrained I saw no unhappiness in his face. He was at peace in his own little world. His caregiver in turned showed such beautiful love and care for him. The older gentlemen by gently caressing him and kissing his cheek. I’m willing to bet he teaches everyone that comes in contact with him something about love. He certainly touched my heart. Enough to write this almost four page open letter. That’s something special right there.

As I leave you keep in mind that a smile of encouragement cannot be too much to ask to make someone feel better about their situation. What can you do today to make someone’s burden a little lighter? Think about it?
