Industry Specific Software Development Services

Software has become the core of every business. It is not an easy task to manage each and everything in your business and hence the implementation of software becomes very important. People generally associate the software development services to the IT industry. However, in reality, it is more of industry specific. This is also termed as the customized software development services as per the need of the business or the industry.

Why is Industry specific software needed?

The software is basically an application or logic that is developed keeping a particular set of requirements in mind. If we are talking about billing software then it will be used in many industries. However, the requirements of billing software in a restaurant and in a hospital will be entirely different. However, the purpose of the both the industry is same. In such situation, the industry specific software development services are required. The billing software may work appropriately in hospitals with some customization accordingly. The basic structure of the software may remain the same, but the software will be very specific to the industry.

How to get Industry specific software services?

There are many software development services that are working towards the same goal. The services are customized according to the requirements of the particular industry. However, it is very important to understand the requirements and the domain of the industry. This will ensure that the software is fit for the industry. Website Localization – How to Target Specific Cultures?

Attracting a large client base is what most companies would claim to be ideal in every business sense of the word. Since not everyone around the globe speaks the same language, it is crucial to find a way to reach all potential customers and clients with ease. This can be done by making multilingual websites available to prospect international customers.

One of the main benefits to having a multilingual website is that you will be able to attract clients from around the globe. Many businesses sell their products and services to those in other countries. With a multilingual website, those from around the world can review your website, see what you have to offer and then make arrangements to do business with you. With a website solely in English you are missing a vast segment of markets worldwide. According to World Internet Statistics, just 29.1% of internet users are English speakers. Over 1 billion people access the internet in a language other than English and if you are to attract a proportion of this market to your site, your online revenue will probably increase.

Nevertheless, when translating a website, there are several factors that need to be considered in order to deliver highly accurate website translations.

  • Design and layout

Western languages are read from left to right and from the top to the bottom. Arabic is read from right to left and both Japanese and Chinese are read from top to bottom. Thereby website translation into non-western languages might require additional changes in the website layout and/or in the user interface design.

  • Color and images

Colors and symbols can cause problems when translating a website, because they mean different things to different cultures and countries. In the western countries, for instance, red represents passion and excitement while in India, it means purity. In Ireland, the orange color has a religious connotation (Protestants) while in the rest of Europe is associated with Halloween.

  • Character encoding

The UTF- 8 works with the majority of the APIs and it allows storing text in many different languages without having to worry about specific encodings. If you are working with content management system, TYPO3 has the capability of handling multiple language versions of a site. The TYPO3 Repository contains several extensions that facilitate the translation process.

If you have ever come across a website which featured a language other than your own, you are certain to know the frustration involved when it comes to understanding what it says. This is where multilingual websites will come in handy. They provide the site visitor with the information that they seek and do so quickly and efficiently.

It you cannot afford professional website translation services, there several sites that offer free online website translation such as Google translate, Babelfish or Microsoft Translator. There are also some plugins that could be easily added to your site to obtain an instant translation to several languages. One of them is jQuery Translate, a plugin that integrates the Google Ajax Language API to jQuery. You can just insert the code: $(‘body’).translate(‘en’) to call back a translation for each element or to create an array to get back a translated array.

These free machine website translations be effective if you are on a tight budget but nothing replaces culturally sensitive human translations. Therefore, it is highly advisable to get the assistance of professional in-country translators. Their experience and knowledge of the target language and local culture will be an asset to your attempt in conquering international markets. It is also advisable to do some research before you start building localized sites. If you are unsure about the languages that you will choose, here is a list with the most used languages on the Internet and the number of users respectively. (Internet World Stats)

1. English 536,564,837

2. Chinese 444,948,013

3. Spanish 153,309,074

4. Japanese 99,143,700

5. Portuguese 82,548,200

6. German 75,158,584

7. Arabic 65,365,400

8. French 59,779,525

9. Russian 59,700,000

10. Korean 39,440,000

The translation and localization of your website will show your prospect customers that you understand and respect their language and culture. It will also transform your company in a serious contender in the specific market.

Specific Strategies to Empower Your Call Center Business

Running an operationally efficient call center that delivers a high-quality customer experience can be a difficult objective to achieve. Consumers are becoming increasingly know-how and their expectations for quality customer service and support is steadily growing. Most corporations may see a contact center as an added expense but as you weigh things down, you find that a call center is a necessity for your business to thrive. It is quite a task to systematically deliver excellent customer service while cutting down additional costs. This may seem intimidating, but it is definitely possible to transform your contact center into a profit-producing asset. But it is difficult to handle a call center with the upper level of customers’ satisfaction.

Here, I am going to represent some ideas of specific strategies to empower your call center business to get the high level of customer satisfaction which will affect your sales graph positively.

Support social media:

While the phone remains at the heart of customer contact centers. There is an increasing need to effectively manage data from multiple channels thanks to the exponential rise in social networks like Twitter and Facebook. This requires solutions that have both the intelligence and flexibility to adapt changing market and consumer needs.

Social media has empowered consumers to become broadcasters or journalists, so speedy and flexible customer service is critical. A complaint sent via Twitter that is left unanswered could spread internationally overnight.

Empower your employee:

Employees are the main factor of a call center who have to communicate with customers directly. We can say that the employees are the heart of a company. So, enable your employees to make their own recommendations on improvements, after all, they are much closer to the working procedure than senior management.

A focused call center can help a brand realize its goal whether that be higher levels of customer satisfaction, more revenue per customer or driving increases in sales. Establishing the right policies and working practices can empower call center employees to support the brand and the business.

Refining Your Customer Service Strategy:

Your customer care center will work in tandem with your call center software to create synergies in your customer service department. One of the biggest advantages of this software is its ability to collaborate with your customer history. For instance, say you get calls from a long time customer on a monthly basis. Call center software can be set to display “screen pops,” which allow the agent instant information as soon as the call is answered, reducing call times and customer satisfaction. Screen pops can be customized but most commonly will include customer purchase and return data on every inbound call.

It doesn’t matter if you are making inbound or outbound phone calls providing customers and prospective clients with the right answers, faster can really streamline your sales efforts.

Know your customer:

Understanding the demographics of your customers is a key first step toward determining which tools and approaches will best help you achieve your business objectives. For example, tech-savvy customers will likely expect to connect with you through more technical channels, such as online forms, chat sessions, or social media drove community-based solutions. Less tech-savvy customers, on the other hand, may require more traditional, higher-touch solutions, such as phone, fax, or email.

How to Design a Specific Tennis Program

A specific tennis program is the only way to really become a good tennis player. Too many players just follow basic programs that make them work on their ground strokes. Of course this is the base you need to be able to hit efficient strokes, but only working on this will be very limited.

A specific tennis program will help a player to improve his different strokes but will also teach him tactical approaches and most important it will include a lot of fitness training.

Beginner needs to spend time on repeating the strokes but once they get better a good fitness level is mandatory in order to keep improving. At every level, beginners or advanced, fitness training can help to improve faster.

The more advanced the players are the more specific the tennis training needs to be and the more fitness training will be included. Fitness training will work on different capacities as coordination, agility, balance, endurance, strength, flexibility and all of them needs to be worked in order to become a complete tennis player.

Depending of the level the intensity and the amount of time spent, fitness training will be different but every specific tennis program should include some. Adding coordination or balance drills will help the players to hit more efficient shots. Agility training will focus more on the movements and quickness of the players If you watch professional players they are all very quick and use a great technique while they are moving. This is a long process and time needs to be spent since the beginning on teaching the right footwork or the players will be limited.

Strength training is another very important part that needs to be worked even with young players. It will help to improve their coordination and balance but it will most of all prevent overuse injuries that occurs too often with tennis players. Once the players get older and better, strength training is even more important in order to become, more explosive, more powerful and faster on the court.

Cardio training needs to be done in order to be fit on the court. Tennis matches can be very intense and long and players with a low endurance level will not be able to perform for too long. This area can be increase very easy with some consistency and being fit on the court will be a great asset compare to some other players.

Finally flexibility is another important part that will help players to hit efficient shots and to move well. If a player is too stiff, he will not be able to perform well. Flexibility training is also very important to prevent injuries that could happen with this intense activity.

A good specific tennis program is then a combination of everything. Of course you will spend a lot of time to learn the different strokes and to work on your consistency. But it is more efficient to work on specific tennis shots and on the fitness at the same time. Too many programs focus on spending hours hitting balls without any physical training. Spending less time on the court and more time working on your fitness will bring better results and faster.

A specific tennis program should include at least 25% of fitness training. This will even become more and more important while the level increases. Fit4Tennis will give you the right fitness program that will help you to improve your tennis game by working on the different areas that players need.

Sports Specific Weight Lifting For Wrestlers

While speed, agility, conditioning and technique are the king attributes on the wrestling mat, when all of these are equal strength can be the deciding factor. Training with weights to strengthen certain muscle groups commonly used with the goals of making specific motions stronger should be the focus of every wrestling weight lifting program. Improvement of speed, core strength, weight gain and the overall development of the posterior chain muscle group are other important aspects that should also be included into an off season weight training program for wrestlers. With limited time (per session and per off season), your weight lifting and nutritional program must be meticulously scheduled so as to optimize muscular gains for the best carry over to your sport.

When programming your weight lifting schedule for the competitive wrestler, first make sure your program is balanced for both upper and lower body development. Then, fill in the program with exercises that will strengthen muscles with particular wrestling movements in mind. Stay away from machines (such as nautilus, hammer strength, etc.) as these tend to offer strength in only one plane of movement and have very little to no carryover of functional strength in sports. It’s better to choose free weight compound movements (such as squats, cleans and overhead presses) as they apply to your sport and as the main stay of your program, and accessory lifts to customize the program to your athlete’s needs. Also include body weight exercises such as pull ups and push ups, and graduating into doing these with added weight as strength progresses.

Compound exercises such as the squat, power clean, clean and press and deadlift will produce the greatest stimulus on the nervous system and therefore the greatest effect on muscular development. These exercises are also some of the best ways to build the posterior chain. Development of the posterior chain musculature is the key to preventing injuries to the neck and spine as well as directly impacting many positions common to wrestling. Use only one compound exercise per session, then follow up with 2-4 accessory exercises to compliment the already completed compound movement and focus on building strength for specific movements performed on the mat. Choose these to either enhance the overall repertoire of techniques the athlete knows or customize the exercises to help the athlete improve on certain moves he wants to get better at.

Developing the lats is important for providing a harder snap when pulling the head down, resulting in either pulling your opponent all the way down to the mat to secure a front headlock or as a distraction leading to a takedown. Strong lats can also make the difference when pulling the leg in when your opponent has sprawled after you attempted a single leg takedown. The lats also play a significant role in securing a tight hold on your opponent when lifting him up for a mat return. As your opponents tries to break your grip by stiffening/straightening his leg, if your lats, arms and grip are strong enough you will be able to complete the takedown by pulling his leg in. Train the lats with pull-ups, one arm rows, barbell rows and low cable rows. For the best carryover, pull ups should be performed with both slightly bent and completely extended arms as you will encounter both positions on the mat.

Strong shoulders are important in wrestling when defending a takedown. After you’ve sprawled and your opponent is trying to complete the takedown by pulling your leg in, strong shoulders will help you push him away as you press against his hips. An iron shoulder capsule is also important for preventing injuries common to this joint as arms frequently get extended and pulled past their normal range of motion when getting pinned or turned. The best exercises for strengthening the shoulders for wrestling are overhead/military presses (behind the neck) and push presses (in front of the neck) with a shortened range of motion. For the best shoulder health, overhead presses should only be performed to the top of the head (and not all the way down to the base of the neck). Train your shoulders for power using a short overhead pin press performed inside a power rack with standards set a couple of inches from the top of the head. Strengthen and tighten your shoulder capsule with internal and external rotational exercises (the same that’s performed for physical therapy when treating a rotator cuff tear).

Besides keeping an emphasis on the posterior chain musculature, training the core should also be a top priority. Mat returns, escapes, reversals, coming out of the bottom and takedowns of any type will all require a strong core. This muscle group includes the lumbar erectors, glutes, hips, abdominals and obliques. For the greatest performance edge and carryover of strength onto the wrestling mat, train the abdominals with weight at least once or twice/week. The most functional exercises are performed with straight legs rather than bent. Hanging leg raises, straight leg sit-ups (with weights), straight leg sumo sit-ups (with weights) and standing abdominals using a lat pull machine are excellent exercises for strengthening the abdominals. Weighted back raises, dead lifts (stiff leg, romainian and conventional), reverse hypers and good mornings using a safety squat bar are the best exercises for strengthening the lower back. Obliques are best trained with weighted side bends (as heavy as possible) and twisting motions with weights, such as wood choppers.

Strengthening the neck is also important for wrestlers to not only protect the cervical spine but also to defend against getting your head snapped down. When hand fighting, the neck is constantly getting pulled on; a strong neck is helpful to combat against this as well as being able to pull your head out of head locks and breaking your opponent’s grip when defending against a cradle. Train both the SCM and posterior neck in your sessions. Shrugs and a head harness are great for strengthening the posterior neck; lying neck flexion with a weight on your forehead works fine for training the SCM. End several of your weight lifting sessions with grip training. There are many occasions on the wrestling mat where a superior grip will help you prevail. Train the grip with for crushing strength using professional grippers and static hold strength by holding weight plates together for time. You can also build crushing grip strength by rolling up (and squeezing) a beach towel for several repetitions.

Add an off season strength program to your wrestling training and watch your performance soar on the mat. When setting up your program, study specific techniques you want to improve and try to strengthen muscle groups used in the execution of the move. Choose at least one compound movement per session, perform it first and fill the rest of the training session with accessory exercises to target muscles used for improving certain wrestling movements. Train your abdominals/core at least once or twice/week at the end of your session. Add 1-2 grip training exercises at the end of at least one or two training sessions/week.

Gender Differences In Learning Style Specific To Science, Technology, Engineering And Math – Stem

There are gender differences in learning styles specific to science, math, engineering and technology (STEM) that teachers of these subjects should keep in mind when developing lesson plans and teaching in the classroom. First, overall, girls have much less experience in the hands-on application of learning principles in lab settings than boys. This could occur in the computer lab, the science lab, or the auto lab – the principle is the same for all of these settings – it requires an overall technology problem-solving schema, accompanied by use and manipulation of tools, and spatial relation skills that very few girls bring with them to the classroom on day one in comparison to boys.

Let’s look at some of the reasons why girls come to the STEM classroom with less of the core skills needed for success in this subject area. Overall, girls and boys play with different kinds of games in early childhood that provide different types of learning experiences. Most girls play games that emphasize relationships (i.e., playing house, playing with dolls) or creativity (i.e., drawing, painting). In contrast, boys play computer and video games or games that emphasize building (i.e., LEGO®), both of which develop problem-solving, spatial-relationship and hands-on skills.

A study of gender differences in spatial relations skills of engineering students in the U.S. and Brazil found that there was a large disparity between the skills of female and male students. These studies attributed female student’s lesser skills set to two statistically significant factors: 1) less experience playing with building toys and 2) having taken less drafting courses prior to the engineering program. Spatial relations skills are critical to engineering. A gender study of computer science majors at Carnegie-Mellon University (one of the preeminent computer science programs in the country) found that, overall, male students come equipped with much better computer skills than female students. This equips male students with a considerable advantage in the classroom and could impact the confidence of female students.

Are these gender differences nature or nurture? There is considerable evidence that they are nurture. Studies show that most leading computer and video games appeal to male interests and have predominantly male characters and themes, thus it is not surprising that girls are much less interested in playing them. A study of computer games by Children Now found that 17% of the games have female characters and of these, 50% are either props, they tend to faint, have high-pitched voices, and are highly sexualized.

There are a number of studies that suggest that when girls and women are provided with the building blocks they need to succeed in STEM they will do as well if not better than their male counterparts. An Introductory Engineering Robotics class found that while males did somewhat better on the pre-test than females, females did as well as the males on the post-test following the class’s completion.

Another critical area of gender difference that teachers of STEM should keep in mind has less to do with actual skills and experience and more to do with perceptions and confidence. For females, confidence is a predictor of success in the STEM classroom. They are much less likely to retain interest if they feel they are incapable of mastering the material. Unfortunately, two factors work against female confidence level: 1) most girls will actually have less experience with STEM course content than their male counterparts and 2) males tend to overplay their accomplishments while females minimize their own. A study done of Carnegie Mellon Computer Science PhD students found that even when male and female students were doing equally well grade wise, female students reported feeling less comfortable. Fifty-three percent of males rated themselves as “highly prepared” in contrast to 0% of females.

It is important to note that many of the learning style differences described above are not strictly gender-based. They are instead based on differences of students with a background in STEM, problem-solving, and hands-on skills learned from childhood play and life experience and those who haven’t had the same type of exposure. A review of the literature on minority students and STEM finds that students of color are less likely to have the STEM background experiences and thus are missing many of the same STEM building blocks as girls and have the same lack of confidence. Many of the STEM curriculum and pedagogy solutions that work for female students will also work for students of color for this reason.

Bridge Classes/Modules to Ensure Core Skills

Teachers will likely see a gap in the core STEM skills of female and minority students for the reasons described above. Below are some solutions applied elsewhere to ensure that girls and women (and students of color) will get the building block STEM skills that many will be missing.

Teachers in the Cisco Academy Gender Initiative study assessed the skill levels of each of their students and then provided them with individualized lesson plans to ensure their success that ran parallel to the class assignments. Other teachers taught key skills not included in the curriculum at the beginning of the course, such as calculating math integers and tool identification and use. Students were provided with additional lab time, staffed by a female teaching assistant, knowing that the female students would disproportionately benefit from additional hands-on experience.

Carnegie-Mellon University came to view their curriculum as a continuum, with students entering at different points based on their background and experience. Carnegie-Mellon’s new frame of a “continuum” is purposefully different than the traditional negative model in which classes start with a high bar that necessitates “remedial” tutoring for students with less experience, stigmatizing them and undermining their confidence. Below is a list of ideas and suggestions that will help ALL students to succeed in the STEM classroom.

1. Building Confidence

How do teachers build confidence in female students who often have less experience than their male counterparts and perceive they are behind even when they are not?

1) Practice-based experience and research has shown that ensuring female students have the opportunity to gain experience with STEM, in a supportive environment, will increase their confidence level.

2) Bringing in female role models that have been successful in the STEM field is another important parallel strategy that should be used to assist your female students in seeing themselves as capable of mastering STEM classes: if she could do it, then I can too!

3) Consistent positive reinforcement by STEM teachers of their female students, with a positive expectation of outcome, will assist them in hanging in there during those difficult beginning weeks when they have not yet developed a technology schema or hands-on proficiency and everything they undertake seems like a huge challenge.

2. Appealing to Female Interests

Many of the typical STEM activities for the classroom appeal to male interests and turn off girls. For example, curriculum in robots often involves monsters that explode or cars that go fast. “Roboeducators” observed that robots involved in performance art or are characterized as animals are more appealing to girls. Engineering activities can be about how a hair dryer works or designing a playground for those with disabilities as well as about building bridges. Teachers should consider using all types of examples when they are teaching and incorporating activities in efforts to appeal female and male interests. Teachers can also direct students to come up with their own projects as a way of ensuring girls can work in an area of significance to them.

Research also shows that there are Mars/Venus differences between the genders and how each engages in technology. Overall, girls and women are excited by how the technology will be used – its application and context. Men will discuss how big the hard drive or engine is, how fast the processor runs, and debate the merits of one motherboard or engine versus another. These are topics that are, overall, of less interest to most females.

The Carnegie-Mellon Study took into account the differences of what engages female students and modified the Computer Science programs’ curriculum so that the context for the program was taught much earlier on in the semester and moved some of the more technical aspects of the curriculum (such as coding) to later in the semester. Authors observed that the female students were much more positive about getting through the tedious coding classes when they understood the purpose of it. Teachers should ensure that the context for the technology they are teaching is addressed early on in the semester by using real world stories and case studies to capture the interest of all of their students.

3. Group Dynamics in the Classroom

Research studies by American Association of University Women and Children Now have found that most females prefer collaboration and not competition in the classroom. Conversely, most males greatly enjoy competition as a method of learning and play. Many hands-on activities in technology classes are set up as competitions. Robotics for example, regularly uses competitiveness as a methodology of teaching. Teachers should

be cognizant of the preference of many girls for collaborative work and should add-in these types of exercises to their classes. Some ways to do this are by having students work in assigned pairs or teams and having a team grade as well as an individual grade. (See Reading 2 on Cooperative Learning.)

Another Mars/Venus dynamic that STEM teachers should be aware of occurs in the lab there male students will usually dominate the equipment and females will take notes or simply watch. Overall, male students have more experience and thus confidence with hands-on lab equipment than their female counterparts. Teachers should create situations to ensure that their female students are spending an equal amount of time in hands-on activities. Some approaches have been: 1) to pair the female students only with each other during labs in the beginning of the class semester so that they get the hands-on time and their confidence increases, putting them in a better position to work effectively with the male students later on, 2) allot a specific time for each student in pair to use the lab equipment and announce when it’s time to switch and monitor this, and 3) provide feedback to male students who are taking over by letting them know that their partner needs to do the activity as well.

4. Moving Female Students from Passive Learners to Proactive Problem Solvers

The main skill in STEM is problem solving in hands-on lab situations. For reasons already discussed regarding a lack of experience, most girls don’t come to STEM classes with these problem-solving skills. Instead, girls often want to be shown how to do things, repeatedly, rather than experimenting in a lab setting to get to the answer. Adding to this issue, many girls fear that they will break the equipment. In contrast, male students will often jump in and manipulate the equipment before being given any instructions by their teacher. Teachers can address this by such activities as: 1) having them take apart old equipment and put it together again, 2) creating “scavenger hunt” exercises that force them to navigate through menus, and 3) emphasizing that they are learning the problem solving process and that this is equally important to learning the content of the lesson and insisting that they figure out hands-on exercises on their own.

Research has also shown that females tend to engage in STEM activities in a rote, smaller picture way while males use higher order thinking skills to understand the bigger picture and the relationship between the parts. Again, moving female students (and the non-techsavvy student in general) to become problem solvers (versus just understanding the content piece of the STEM puzzle) will move them to use higher order thinking skills in STEM.

Finally, many teachers have reported that many female students will often want to understand how everything relates to each other before they move into action in the lab or move through a lesson plan to complete a specific activity. The female students try to avoid making mistakes along the way and will not only want to read the documentation needed for the lesson, they will often want to read the entire manual before taking any action. In contrast, the male student often needs to be convinced to look at the documentation at all. Boys are not as concerned with making a mistake a long the way as long as what they do ultimately works. The disadvantage for female students is that they often are so worried about understanding the whole picture that they don’t move onto the hands-on activity or they don’t do it in a timely fashion, so that they are consistently the last ones in the class to finish. Teachers can assist female (and non-tech-savvy) students to move through class material more quickly by providing instruction on how to quickly scan for only the necessary information needed to complete an assignment.

5. Role Models

Since the numbers of women in STEM are still small, girls have very few opportunities to see female role models solving science, technology, engineering or math problems. Teachers should bring female role models into the classroom as guest speakers or teachers, or visit them on industry tours, to send the message to girls that they can succeed in the STEM classroom and careers.

Consider These 6 Things Before Buying A Specific Home!

Before, any potential, qualified, home buyer, decides, to purchase, any, specific, house and property, he should, carefully, consider, why he chooses this one, and whether, it is the right one, for him, etc! After, over 15 years, as a Real Estate Licensed Salesperson, in the State of New York, I believe, an individual, should, not only, consider, whether, merely, buying a home, is right, for him, according to the general rules, etc, including, affordability, etc, but, it is wise, to consider, fully, these 6 things, before, purchasing, any, specific one. With, that in mind, this article will attempt to, briefly, consider, examine, review, and discuss, 6 things, which should be fully considered, and examined.

1. Does it fit your present needs?: Why, and how, does it fit your present, existing needs? Is the combination of location, schools, safety, affordability, and the specific house’s features, strengths and weaknesses, make sense, for you? How many bedrooms do you believe you need, and want? Are you considering the specific property, as a starter – home, or for a much longer period? Can you, comfortably, happily, etc, move – right – in, or what would you immediately, do? How are the, bones – of – the – house? It is usually, wise to walk – around, the block, and local area, in order to gauge, whether, you might like, living there?

2. Can you afford the down – payment, and Closing Costs?: Lending institutions use several metrics, to consider, whether you qualify for a mortgage, and, for, how much! However, it also matters, what you are comfortable with, as well as your preparation, for potential contingencies, etc! Beware, this is essential, to know, from the onset, but, far – from, the only knowledge, you might need, to determine, whether, it’s right, for – you!

Consider The Specific Needs of Your Children When You Plan Your Estate

It is more than likely that the reason for establishing your estate plan is to ensure that your family is financially secure after you are gone. Estate planning for families with minor children can present challenges and difficult choices to parents. The challenges originate from the minor’s legal restrictions on ownership of property and by the parent’s desire to gift assets to a minor but to defer the minor’s actual possession until the minor reaches some level of maturity or at least the age of majority. Additionally, planning for minors also involves planning for the custody of the minor in the event both parents die before the minor reaches the legal age of majority.

The guardian for your minor children can be designated in your will. Absent a compelling reason not to, the court will usually accept your choice for guardian. Once appointed, the guardian has a significant impact on the child’s value system, religious beliefs, education and, in general, the child’s development to adulthood. Consequently, you must give careful consideration to the choice of guardian and must discuss the prospect of the guardianship with those individuals you designate.

Once a guardian is chosen, the most effective way to make sure that each of your children receives the necessary financial support to ensure that they are well taken care of is to establish your Revocable Trust and draft a provision that would create Separate Share Trusts upon your death. A “Separate Share Trust” is called that because a separate trust is created for each of your children. This can make it easier for the parents to account for the differences in the needs and propensities of each child. If one child has special medical or education needs, or if there is a wide gap in the children’s ages, parents can establish the appropriate portion of the estate, and can establish the terms of the distribution accordingly. Thus, by using Separate Share Trust, you can ensure that each child is cared for according to their specific needs.

In Separate Share Trust the parent/grantor can decide under what circumstances and at what age each child has the maturity sufficient to take possession of the assets. This will ensure that children will not recklessly waste the funds when they turn 18. However, one disadvantage to using “separate share” trusts with multiple children is the difficulty in administration. Depending on the provisions of the trust agreement, the trustee (which does not have to be the legal guardian) may have to account to each beneficiary separately and may have to maintain records of the distributable net income attributable to each beneficiary for income tax purposes.

A grantor need not have a large estate to create a trust. The assets you will leave your children can add up faster than you think. If you add the value of your home, savings and investment accounts, you may find that you are well over $75,000. In these cases a trust is usually the best solution. In addition, the trust could be funded by life insurance policies which can push the value of their estate much higher. Once established, the trust would provide for the children’s care and education and make money available to them as they reach certain ages indicative of maturity 18, 21, 25, 30, 35 or any other age you specify. You’ve worked hard to provide for your family a bright future. Plan accordingly and make sure that your work creates the best opportunities imaginable for your children.
