Solitude Vs Teamwork!

Irrespective of any given situation, “Team Work Works!” It is not that students are incapable of studying in solitude, it is just that when they study in collaboration the synergy drives the students, one step further. During the learning period people tend to be skeptical and filled with fraught of underachieving, so they stick with the habit of solitary learning. They often underestimate the power of a “group”.

The synergy between the groups is the major impetus that has the power to take them to new heights. Hypothetically, let us assume the research students are challenged to disprove “The theory of relativity” it is near impossible for an solitary individual to disprove the theory, as it is going to take ages. When they form a group they have a better chance to conclude, leave alone disproving it.

The individual complacent attitude often limits the levels of the individual, this never happens in a group activity. The students of the group tend to push the other members to the extreme, thus getting the best out of everyone. Assume a group of students are asked to design a roman amphitheater, with a touch of modernity. Each individual perceives the structure in his own thoughts, this leads to a healthy discussion of the design. Where the design thoughts of each individual is validated against the other students, which helps in bringing out the best of every student and never lets the air of complacency settle in.

In solitude the individual tends to focus on minor aspects and eventually loses the sense of direction. This seldom happens in a group activity, there is always someone to keep tabs on where they are heading. It also helps in playing a balancing act, i.e. the shortcoming of an individual is supplemented by somebody else in the group. This is the power of indulging in group activity. Eventually leads to better results, increase in productivity and agility. The winning ingredients of the group acitivity are the individual members, they can make or break the activity.

There are situations where solitary activity is more effective, incase of a activity which lacks breadth. Whereas Group activity is highly effective when the activity shows breadth that is overwhelming for an individual. Irrespective of all these, group activity works most of the time.

The Wonder of Native American Sterling Cast Work Jewelry

One of the big reasons I chose Native American Jewelry studies as my livelihood is the vast amount of information out there. A lot is easily accessible but there are hidden pockets that reveal a much deeper understanding of the art form than is usually offered. My best source has been the collectors and traders I interface with; people that have a long association with the art form.

I handle so many pieces I have time to closely examine the techniques used and have formed some opinions around certain aspects. One area that I’ve found to be particularly interesting is Tufa cast work, which is commonly referred to as Sandcast. This was one of the first techniques used by Native Americans to create jewelry for everyday adornment, ceremonial applications and as gifts for fellow tribe members.

The pieces are often heavy and feature bold designs. Earlier pieces are regularly rough in nature with the design elements being left un-manicured which gives them a slightly primitive look (I like that a lot!). With the advent of mass production and precision measurement tools, a lot of the personality has been removed from the work. Casts for pieces made prior to this had to be “eyeballed” as far as the shapes and thicknesses of the item were concerned. A cast would be made and utilized until it’s integrity waned and a new cast was required if the design was to be duplicated. The great thing is, the casts were seldom re-created once they were exhausted, and if they were, the duplicate cast was different than the original rendering each casting as a unique, individual design.

The designs are almost always symmetrical with matching elements that when eyeballed didn’t quite end up the same as their sister elements. These older pieces are the ones I strive to acquire-their handcrafted nature is endearing and speaks to the artisan following edicts of early jewelry making in which they let the Gods guide them through all aspects.

One such piece I acquired many years ago is a massive bracelet which was culled from the Witte Museum in San Antonio, Texas. It’s been dated to between 1900 and 1920 and is a stellar example of early Navajo cast work featuring many of the aforementioned attributes.

Much of what I’ve mentioned here has taken a while for me to absorb. With each new acquisition of a cast sterling piece of considerable age, I learn more about this important technique, it’s cultural origins and it’s handcrafted charm.

Yes, It Is Possible To Speed Read: Further Steps To Learn Speed Reading

Before you proceed to the advanced steps to learn speed reading, let me remind you about how essential it is to have the habit of reading every day, and reading silently for the specific purpose of becoming a speed reader. We can compare this to a person who has first time arrived to a place. In his first glance, all he sees are unfamiliar, and he has to look at all things surrounding him one by one to identify them. If he seldom visited that same place, there were few things he would recognize, but only few. The more frequent he goes to this place, the more familiar it becomes, and even without turning his head from left to right, he can tell what are on those sides. You will appreciate the point I am reiterating when you start doing the following steps:

1. Learn to read in clumps. Most people tend to read word by word. It is therefore understood that when you read this way, your reading is slow, as a matter of fact, too slow. You have to learn to take in more than one word at a time. How you should read a text must be similar to how the lines of an editorial are typed in newspapers – they are clumped. Notice how faster it is to read news in a newspaper; since each line is typed short (like in clump), your eyes grasp all they see in the line then quickly glide down to the next line, taking in again the whole line of words as one unit. Try doing it now, and you will see that it works; your reading speed will increase.

2. Be familiar with word groups. First, let me tell the difference between a word clump and a word group. Like I explained above, a word clump is words taken in as one and read as one unit. By slicing the sentence into two, three or four parts, depending on the length of the sentence, you can form word clumps. It will depend also on the scope of your peripheral vision (Later, on the third step, I will explain what peripheral vision is.) the count of word clumps you can make in a sentence. This only shows that word clumps are words that are grouped but without one-whole meaning. Word groups, on the other hand, are common group words that possess definite meaning. They are, we may say, common expressions and figures of speech, like idioms, verb phrase, collocations, phrasal verbs, etc. The taking in of word groups does not rely on your peripheral vision, but on your familiarity to common expressions. Once your eyes scan a familiar expression, you do not have to glide your sight to all the words in that phrase to be able to see what the next words are. Your eyes and brain quickly decode the familiar expression, and you can swiftly jump to the next word clump or word group. So, the more familiar you are with different word groups, the faster you read.

3. Stretch your peripheral vision. Stretching your peripheral vision is expanding the scope your eyes can see in a glance. But what is peripheral vision? Look around you, and then fixate your eyes on something. The thing where you fixate your eyes on is vivid, of course. The other objects close to that thing and which you may be seeing too, but not as vivid as the one your eyes are fixated, are objects of your peripheral vision. The farthest your peripheral vision can see, the better. If your peripheral vision can catch four or five words in a single glance, it means that you read fast. If you can take in seven words or more at a time, you are a speed reader.

To sum up, it is your peripheral vision that allows you to read as many words as you can in just one glance, and if you have a narrow vision, if you cannot read in clumps, and if you are familiar with only few word groups, then you will not be able to do speed reading.

Tenants Insurance

Protection of your assets and the risks of third-party liability should be a primary concern to all renters simply because accidents do happen and we seldom have visibility to them until after the fact. An unwatched pot or overflowing bathtub can cause a great deal of damage to your unit and contents. Tenants insurance covers your contents against losses caused by fire, smoke damage, water damage, vandalism, theft, and many additional perils.

What is the specific protection that tenants insurance can provide?

  • Contents – Protection for contents in the policyholder’s unit and other personal belongings worn or used by the resident on- and off-premises. If you were able to turn your unit upside down and shake it, whatever falls would generally be considered “contents” whereas whatever doesn’t is part of the building and is not covered. Contents can include, but are not limited to furniture, clothes, televisions, bedding, and dishes. Some restrictions may of course apply.
  • Personal Liability – If a resident is found to be responsible for causing damage to the building or another person’s property (for example, if a resident accidentally started a fire in their room) or caused bodily injury to another person on the premises, coverage under the policy will respond up to the insured limit to pay legal expenses and compensatory damages subject to the Policy Terms, Conditions, and Exclusions of the policy.
  • Additional Living Expenses – If as a consequence of an insured loss the tenant’s unit is unfit for occupancy or a resident has to move out their unit while repairs are being made, coverage under the policy will pay the increased expenses up to insured limit incurred by the resident to obtain temporary housing subject to the Terms, Conditions, and Exclusions of the policy. If a resident has to move to a hotel for a few days while their unit is being repaired, these additional costs and increased food costs for restaurant meals may be covered under the Policy subject to the Policy Terms, Conditions, and Exclusions of the policy.
  • Other Coverages – Additional coverages may be available for earthquake, jewellery, and fine arts. Please check with your insurance broker as required.

Coverages may be subject to a deductible. Please check with your insurance broker for policy specifics.

Additional Benefits

Some tenants insurance policies offer access to value-added services, direct from the insurer, as an additional benefit of the coverage. Novex Insurance Company, for example, offers Novex Assistance – a program designed to provide tenants with services including:

  • An unlimited legal information telephone help line for advice about property, landlord/tenant relations, employment, contracts, social benefits, licences and permits, inheritances, and family law.
  • Home care services including housekeeping when property is damaged; babysitting for sick children or grandchildren; babysitting in case of hospitalization; homemaking on return from hospitalization; and visiting nurse.

Please note that home care services are subject to certain limits and conditions. Please ask for details.

Tenants Insurance Programs

Tenants insurance programs exist for a number of different types of tenants that may offer tailored coverage and pre-negotiated preferred rates for insurance. These preferred rates may offer cost savings over retail market tenants insurance offerings.

  • Building Tenants Insurance Programs – For the benefit of tenants living in certain buildings.
  • Seniors Tenants Insurance Programs – For the benefit of senior tenants living in certain retirement homes. May specifically include coverages for hearing aids, wheelchairs, or scooters.
  • University/College Tenants Insurance Programs – For the benefit of their students while living in residence at certain colleges or universities.

In most cases, tenants insurance programs may be supplied without cost to the building owner, retirement home owner, or college/university. Improved property and general liability loss experience may result for the building owners due to the insurer’s ability to subrogate. This may in turn lead to lower commercial insurance rates in future.

Conclusion

Protecting your contents and yourself against liability risk is a prudent step to take regardless of whether you own your home or not. Tenants insurance is a risk coverage often overlooked by renters that can, in many cases, provide significant risk protection at reasonable rates. Ask your insurance broker about the benefits of tenants insurance and learn how little it can cost to cover your belongings and third-party liability risk.

GMO’s and Breast Cancer Awareness

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month making it a perfect time to explore the largely ignored and seldom discussed link between GMO’s (Genetically Modified Organisms) and the diagnosis most feared by women. Breast cancer is the leading cause of death for women age 40 to 55 and about 80 percent of those diagnosed have no family history of the disease. One in eight women will develop invasive breast cancer in her lifetime with nearly 40,000 losing their lives each year. And, approximately 1,700 men will develop breast cancer each year too.

So, what can you do to reduce your risk? And, what do GMO’s have to do with Breast Cancer? The answer to both questions is plenty. Proactive prevention through positive lifestyle choices is key. An organic diet rich in fruits and vegetables, maintaining a healthy weight, (there is a strong association between being overweight and breast cancer among postmenopausal women) exercising regularly, limiting alcohol intake, not smoking and supporting a strong immune system through foods and supplementation are the basics. But, we must also examine and reduce our chemical exposure.

We want to bring your awareness to the link between breast cancer and the toxic chemicals found in Genetically Modified crops, specifically glyphosate, the active ingredient in the herbicide “Roundup”. Dr. Stephanie Seneff, the Senior Research Scientist at MIT, states that “glyphosate is possibly the most important factor in the development of multiple chronic diseases and conditions that have become prevalent in Westernized societies.” One study revealed that glyphosate has estrogenic properties that causes dramatic breast cancer proliferation which explains why rats fed Roundup developed massive breast tumors. Other recently published studies demonstrate glyphosate’s toxicity to aquatic life, animals, and humans.

GMOs are plants or animals created through the process of genetic engineering. This technology forces DNA of one species into another, resulting in unstable combinations that do not occur in nature. Almost all commercial GMOs are engineered to withstand herbicide and/or produce an insecticide. GMOs are present in 75% of conventional processed foods. The United States produces 48% of all GMO food, more than any other country. The use of Roundup has increased 15 times since the introduction of GMOs in food.

The Breast Cancer Fund released a publication, “State of the Evidence” that connects chemical toxins to breast cancer. According to recent research published in the National Institutes of Health Journal, you can reduce your risk of breast cancer by avoiding certain chemicals found in common, everyday products. GMOs expose us to endocrine disrupting herbicides, fungicides and pesticides. Some of these pesticides have been identified as Mammary Gland Carcinogens. Dr. Julia Brody, PhD of Silent Spring Institute writes; “Every woman in America has been exposed to chemicals that may increase her risk of breast cancer. Unfortunately, the link between toxic chemicals and breast cancer has largely been ignored. Reducing chemical exposures could save many, many women’s lives.”

High-Risk GMO foods:

Currently, the most high risk GMO foods are corn, soybeans, cotton, canola, alfalfa, sugar beets, papaya and squash. Tomatoes, apples, rice and potatoes are in the research and development stage but are not yet found in the market. Also, keep in mind that the farmers and ranchers that provide our meat, milk and eggs depend on genetically enhanced crops in their animals feed.

Other Sources of GMOs include:

Dairy products from cows injected with the GM hormone rbGH

Food additives, flavorings, and processing agents, including aspartame (NutraSweet) and rennet.

Meat, eggs, and dairy products from animals that have eaten GM feed

Honey and bee pollen that may have GM sources of pollen

Vegetable oil, vegetable fat and margarines (made with soy, corn, cottonseed, and/or canola)

Soy flour, soy isolates, soy isoflavones, soy lecithin, tofu, tamari, tempeh, and soy protein supplements

Corn flour, corn gluten, corn masa, corn starch, corn syrup, cornmeal, and High-Fructose Corn Syrup.

Research on rats fed GMO corn by French molecular endocrinologist Gilles-Eric Seralini found that:

Females developed large mammary tumors

Females died 2-3 times more rapidly than the control groups

The pituitary gland was disabled

The sex hormone balance was modified

The American Academy of Environmental Medicine published the adverse effects of GMO foods including:

Altered structure and function of the liver including lipid and carbohydrate metabolism

Increased oxidative stress

Accelerated aging

Changes in the kidney, spleen and pancreas

GM corn caused infertility and lower birth weight in litters

Altered over 400 gene expressions

Intestinal damage

Increased cell growth

Disruption of the Immune System

Most personal care products contain GMO ingredients including cosmetics, soaps, body lotions, shampoos, conditioners, bodywash, bubble bath, etc. These, along with parabens, petroleum (and its derivatives) and phthalates (a class of chemicals known to contribute to a wide range of health problems) can be carcinogenic and affect health, behavior and reproductive systems. Make the chemical, fragrance, gluten and GMO free products your healthy choice.

We also recommend reading Dr. John Lee’s bestselling book, “What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Breast Cancer: How Hormone Balance Can Help Save Your Life” to learn more about the breast health benefits of Feminine Balance Therapy, chemical, fragrance, gluten and GMO free bio-identical progesterone cream.

Steps to help reduce GMO ingredients and lower your breast cancer risk:

Avoid GMO corn, soybeans, cotton, canola, alfalfa, sugar beets, papaya and squash.

Choose chemical and GMO free personal care products.

Keep a healthy weight, exercise regularly, avoid excessive alcohol and do not smoke.

Avoid pesticide use in your home, in your yard and on your pets.

Choose organically grown fruits and vegetables whenever possible.

If your drinking water contains contaminants, use a water filter.

Eat a diet rich in vegetables, fruits, and fiber and reduce your intake of meat and high-fat dairy products.

Choose meat and milk products that do not contain added hormones, antibiotics, and additives.

When medical radiation (X-ray, CT scan) is recommended, ask if it is necessary and insist on proper shielding.

Horse Training – How to Stop a Horse From Balking

Balking is one of the most aggravating habits that a horse can have. You’re ready to go but the horse is not and probably will not be for a while. This is one of those challenging horse training problems.

A balky horse usually stands and looks back, as if it expected something to happen from the rear, and he is seldom disappointed, for the driver usually makes the air hot with a volley of words and the hissing of the whip. His words have absolutely no meaning to the horse and naturally he becomes more and more confused and his senses more and more blunted. It would be better instead of yelling and slashing with a whip to sing a song and step to one side and slash the fence. The horse’s confusion would change to astonishment and he would probably move off.

No horse balks simply because it wants to stand. There is no reason for a horse balking the first time; several repetitions of the cause, followed by a succeeding act, becomes a habit, and the habit remains when the cause has long since ceased to exist.

Balking is a confused, inactive and almost insensible condition of the mind that happens when the horse is faced with two conflicting problems. For example, if a strong willed horse wants to go to the stable and you jerk back to pull him on another direction these conflicts can confuse him. Since he can think of just one thing at a time, he becomes confused and sullen and stops. If the first stroke or two of the whip does not attract his attention to something else others will only lock his mind and make him all the more insensible to his surroundings.

In another example a young ambitious horse is hitched by the side of a slow, sluggish horse. The command “Get up” is given and the ambitious colt leaps forward, promptly, only to jerk on his tender shoulders, and mouth, because the old horse did not obey at once. When this is repeated a few times, he becomes confused, because he was jerked for going forward and whipped for going backward, and, in his confusion, he could only stand and prance.

This is same as when a man of keen intellect, who is an entertaining talker in ordinary conversation, freezes when asked to give a speech. He becomes unable to say a word, and so confused he could hardly tell his own name and not know enough to sit down. It is something of the same condition of mind the balking horse gets into. It would be brutal to abuse the man because his mind became inactive in the new surroundings, and it is still more brutal to abuse the balking horse with his lesser mental powers. But that’s exactly what many do.

The solution may surprise you, as may much of the advice given by Professor Beery in his series of books on horsemanship. Some is common sense but some expert advice makes you wonder how it would ever work, but it does.

The way to stop a horse from stopping or balking is just as he is telling you by his eyes and ears and motion of the head that he is about to stop, say “Whoa” firmly, and give a powerful wrench on the lines. By stopping him before he stops of his own accord, you have disconcerted him and thrown him into a thoughtful mood. When you feel that you have his attention drawn from balking, give a confident “Get Up” and at the same time a side pull on the line.

Naturally, there’s more to it than that, especially if you’re dealing with a horse confirmed in the habit so you should visit http://www.HorseTrainingResources.com for help with this and other horse habits.

Internet Books of Silicon Valley’s Hay Day – The Game Continues – What You Should Read Now

What Internet books should you read? Well, if you want to really get a sense of it, I’d recommend that you start at the beginning first, and learn about ARPA-NET and Bell Labs, but then I’d recommend perhaps “The Web” by Tim Burners-Less or maybe something by Vincent Cerf. There are many other Internet books worthy of mention. “The Long Tail” by Chris Anderson is good.

Also, how about a few Internet books from the 90s? “Blown to Bits” was written prior to 1999 and it’s pretty decent, but we know how that bubble turned out, and the IPO-Venture Capital rush of Silicon Valley, still it’s pretty interesting, and this second wave of the Internet technology curve will be much more lasting. Google seems to be a company everyone is talking about and at the big box book stores you will find several new titles, this year in fact in the business innovation, and business computer shelves.

You see, the Internet is changing, and it’s changing fast, and if you want to keep up, then you need to change with it also. For instance, I’d recommend that you know how it started, how it grew, how the bubble popped, and what happened next.

From there you can read what is going on right now, how things are changing as we speak and then go ahead and read what the top technology specialist believe is happening next – along with the Futurists who can’t stop making predications even though they are seldom on target judging by hindsight decades later after everyone forgot what they said.

Why does all this matter, well because the internet is part of our everyday lives, it’s infiltrated our families, companies, schools, and now with all the mobile technology, it will be with us 24/7/365 and most humans aren’t going to know what to do without it in the future. You included, so stop denying it and start learning what it all means. Please consider all this.

Essentials for Automatic Garden Irrigation Systems – A Brief Insight

What is it about gardens that makes them so admirable? Greenery, serenity, and Freedom from the concrete jungles. There are several things that are important for the gardens when it comes to making the best systems for automatic irrigation. For instance, there has to be the spotlight of relevance on efficiency. The landscape gardening and irrigation in several regions have seen a sudden boost in the past few years, and it is for this reason that the use of the machinery has increased as well. Here, we will have a brief rundown of certain aspects that are seldom talked about in this industry.

Garden Irrigation Systems: the Essentials

There are certain essentials that need to be covered when it comes to irrigation systems. The first and most important feature is obviously the area that they cover. Use of sprinklers can minimise the wastage of water in the area and still cover more area of the lawn. Another thing which is important is that one should not overdo it when it comes to the complexities involved in the system. The simpler the system, the easier it will be for you to manage it in the long run. Therefore, you should have a specific set of requirements reasonable enough for your own lawn. And that’s when keeping a tab on your expectations from the equipment you have spent so much on, becomes necessary.

Features You Should Expect from Automatic Irrigation Systems

If you have been looking for the best options for automatic garden irrigation, there are options aplenty. there are certain features that you should expect from the automatic systems. Let’s mention them briefly:

  • Rain Sensor: This is extremely important for a judicious use of water. The irrigation equipment should go off whenever it senses precipitation, avoiding the waste of water resources when it is not needed.
  • Timer: The mechanism in place should allow you to set the time period after which you need to work. Consequently, it allows you to appropriately space out the irrigation for different species of grass that you might have.
  • Efficient Sprinklers: The automatic irrigation mechanism shall be mated to efficient sprinklers to make sure that the water is abundantly spread out yet there is no wastage.

The above are just a few of the features that are significant. And when it comes to offering products with all the above features, several experts have tried their best to walk the tightrope of practicality and features. Carefully assessing and choosing features that will gel well with your courtyard, is the key to having an impressive lawn.

Interior Designs – Home Design Trends

Home design trends keep changing from time to time. New ones quickly replace trends that were in vogue yesterday. Here are some of the home design trends.

Personal Space

Everyone needs personal breathing space. Another trend that has progressed is the conception of private space in homes. The amenity of a private and dedicated space for each one in the home is becoming popular these days with even couples wanting space to spend some time alone seldom.

Fashionable Garages

Today’s garages have gone under an entire reform as homeowners prefer contemporary garages equipped with various luxuries such as cabinet and storage systems, mini refrigerators, air conditioning and residential-looking flooring. Decked out, upscale garages have removed the image of gloomy and grease that is normally associated with them.

Rooms added for Serenity

A separate one-stop zone for relaxation is another very popular new design trend in homes. These serenity rooms are meant for a variety of relaxation and fitness activities such as yoga, meditation, exercising, steam baths, etc.

Renovate Your Outdoor Area

Convert your outdoor space into “warm zones” and spend more time outdoors, people living in colder climates can are now converting their outdoor spaces. A few great examples of such convertibles are patios, driveways and walk ways. This makes winter maintenance easy and spring and fall more enjoyable.

Add-on Extra room with the Master bedroom

People are attaching master bedrooms today with an additional room that serve up as a ‘snoring room’ for partners who snore. Instead of heading for an uncomfortable couch, now snoring sleepers can find their way toward a much more comfortable sleeping quarter. A typical bedroom for snorers is equipped with a double bed and chair, with easy access to the amenities of the master suite.

Home Design trends are changing with time, people are becoming more aware of fashion in every walk of life, be it self styling or doing the interiors decoration for the home.

Public Schools — Why On Earth Do We Need Them?

From the time the Mayflower landed at Plymouth Rock in 1620 until the 1850s, most parents taught their children to read at home or sent their children to small private or religious grammar schools. Education was voluntary and local governments did not force parents to send their children to state-controlled schools. Yet, literacy rates in colonial America were far higher than they are today.

In 1765, John Adams wrote that “a native of America, especially of New England, who cannot read and write is as rare a Phenomenon as a Comet.”1 Jacob Duche, the chaplain of Congress in 1772, said of his countrymen, “Almost every man is a reader.”2 Daniel Webster confirmed that the product of home education was near-universal literacy when he stated, “a youth of fifteen, of either sex, who cannot read and write, is very seldom to be found.”3

After the Revolutionary War, literacy rates continued to rise in all the colonies. There were many affordable, innovative local schools parents could send their children to. Literacy data from that early period show that from 1650 to 1795, the literacy rate among white men rose from 60 to 90 percent. Literacy among women went from 30 to 45 percent. 4

In the early 1800s, Pierre Samuel Dupont, an influential French citizen who helped Thomas Jefferson negotiate for the Louisiana Purchase, came to America and surveyed education here. He found that most young Americans could read, write, and “cipher” (do arithmetic), and that Americans of all ages could and did read the Bible. He estimated that fewer than four Americans in a thousand were unable to write neatly and legibly. 5

(See Note references in my book, “Public Schools, Public Menace”)

From 1800 to 1840, literacy rates in the North increased from 75 percent to between 91 and 97 percent. In the South, the white literacy rate grew from about 50 to 60 percent, to 81 percent (it was illegal to teach blacks to read). By 1850, literacy rates in Massachusetts and other New England states, for both men and women, was close to 97 percent. This was before Massachusetts created the first compulsory public-school system in America in 1852 (of course, these literacy numbers did not apply to black slaves since many colonies had laws that forbid teaching slaves to read).

Ever since the first public schools were established in Massachusetts in 1852, and made compulsory in most of the states by the 1890’s, literacy among adults and children has been deteriorating. As I noted in a previous article, today the literacy rate for students in our public schools ranges from 30 percent to 70 percent. Compare that literacy horror statistic to the over 90 percent literacy rate for the average child, man, and woman by 1852.

The question to naturally ask is this: if our kids learned to read far better when we had an education free-market before public schools came along, why on Earth do we need public schools now? The answer is, we don’t. Parents should take advantage of the quality, low-cost, free-market education alternatives they have right now that I explore in my book, “Public Schools, Public Menace.”
