A Peasant Woman Digging in Front of Her Cottage by Vincent Van Gogh

In this small painting by Vincent Van Gogh that hangs in the Art Institute of Chicago you have a large world that opens up to us. The peasant woman whose face that you do not see tells more than many volumes could.

There are a number of things in this painting that tell you about the woman, for example the size of the cottage and it’s lack of any formality. There is no entry, path, or garden which shows you that she is of the very poor. The cloths that she wears and scarf on her head appear to be tattered and ragged. There is almost no color in the area, that is, flowers, lamps, bricks, and garden decor. Everything about this house is the bare minimum, however the woman here has dignity for though she is poor and probably uneducated she is clean and on task. She is not sitting in an easy chair on the front porch, because of her poor station she is aware that the days are short with not that much light until sunset when her work must stop. It should be noted here that in the 19th Century things for the poor in the countryside were dark. Electric lighting as we know it was not available so they had to do what they could with natural day light. It is a difficult task to do little more than talk in the evening when you live by candle light. One certainly cannot draw or paint, I have attempted this myself and it was most difficult.

The structure of the house is simple, a low thatched roof that lays close to the ground to protect the walls and interior of the home. The weather is cold and wet in this region and structures must be built to ward off the elements. Van Gogh employs black and brown to express the shaded areas of the house under the roof which runs along base of the house in both directions. This strong dark paint gives strength and support the cottage and the painting in general. Van Gogh is one of the few artists that knows how to work with black and this painting demonstrates that.

The brush strokes the make up the roof, the adjacent building, and trees behind are quick and rich with paint. Along the roof of the house the artist has applied various earthen tones and some white to bring out the texture of the thatching. For a small painting Van Gogh has offered us a lot.

Three Simple Ways to Boost Your Personal Style Quotient

All of us want to look good. Being stylish and fashionable comes naturally to some, for others it requires a little bit of effort. Boosting your personal style quotient up by a notch requires a little bit of aesthetics and a whole lot of attitude. Here are three easy ways to improve your very own personal style.

1. Experiment with your wardrobe:

Never settle for the ordinary or the routine look. So, everybody sees you wearing trousers day after day, jazz up a bit with a short skirt or a colorful shirt on those casual Fridays. Mix and match different styles. Perk up you’re simple A-line dress with a fancy scarf for a romantic night out. Always keep in mind your body type, shape and height. Remember, the clothes you wear must complement the shape of your body.

2. Choose the right accessories:

Choose the right kind of handbags, shoes, belts and earrings to enhance your style quotient. It’s always a good idea to match your handbag with your shoes. Choose the right kind of jewelry for the clothes you wear. Fashion jewelry most definitely provides you with unlimited options – there’s lava stone jewelry, sterling silver pieces, jewelry embellished with gemstones, pearls and what not. Choose wisely and you are guaranteed to make heads turn.

3. Carry yourself well

You may be wearing the prettiest pearls or the priciest diamonds, you may sport the latest high-street fashion, but they don’t matter much unless you carry yourself well. In fact, your confidence, your grace and your élan is the most important aspect of your personal style. That’s the reason why Julia Roberts looks good on almost anything. Show some attitude. Be super-confident about your looks and your sense of style. This way, you are sure to make a lasting impression.

What Will Really Make a Guy Miss Me a Lot? These Tips Will Make Him Miss You Like Crazy

There’s a secret to making a man go crazy just thinking about you. When you get a taste of a really good cake, but there’s too little of it to feast on, you find yourself looking for that exact same cake in different bakeshops, and wanting the entire pan instead of an itty-bitty slice. You’re the cake – make him hungry for you. Here’s how to make him miss you more.

Never settle for “ok”

Going the extra mile is just about everything to any relationship. Mediocrity makes you seem like the millions of other girls walking past him everyday. But if you know how to add a little bit of oomph in anything you do, he will always compare, and find you better than anyone or anything. Everyone puts sugar in their coffee, but you use a secret recipe that involves honey. He may not know how you make his coffee, but he’ll sure keep craving for it, and you, when you’re not around.

Get off the circuit.

You’re perpetually online on Facebook, and you respond to every single text message you get, doesn’t matter who it’s from. If he knows you to be such kind, he’ll put you at the least of his priorities. Why? Because you’re so easy to reach, he doesn’t need to call ahead for reservations. This means he can go gallivanting around, and if he’s unlucky, he can turn to you. But when he does, it doesn’t mean he’s missing you.

Leave subtle trails.

Try this trick. When he invites you to his home for dinner and a nightcap, leave something material that will remind him of you. A scarf, maybe. Or spray your perfume on his pillow. The keyword is subtle. If you throw the entire contents of your bottle, he’ll know what you’re doing, throw out the pillow, and simply get a new one. But if at the end of a long day, he lays on his bed and smells you, he’ll be reminded of what a great time he had with you.

Your subtle trails shouldn’t lead to you that easily.

So you left your scarf on his couch. He doesn’t know you left it there on purpose, and if you’ve made a good impression on him, he will return it to you, but with the main intention of seeing you again. So he will call to tell you that you left your scarf. Be ‘unavailable’ a few times that he asks, until he can’t take it anymore and he’d probably deliver it to you himself, with flowers.

Be busy.

The worst thing you can do to yourself if think about whether he’s thinking of you. After a great date, get on with your life like a normal person. If you are single, mingle with other people. If he calls again, turn him down a few times gently by telling him you’re busy. Never be standoffish, or he’ll simply move on with his life and find someone else. A trick is to make him wait. “Saturday? Oh no, I’m sorry, I have a beauty convention to attend, but next week would be great.”, is better than saying “Sorry, I’m busy.”

Try something new once in a while.

You’re beautiful, and that’s exactly how you caught his eye in the first place. But try staring at the same old thing over and over, and you’ll soon find your eyes wandering. Always keep your guy missing you by giving him something new to look at. The great thing about this also, he gets to imagine you when you’re away, and everyone knows the anticipation heightens with imagination. Tell him you got a tan, but let him know on the phone. Then, don’t bother showing yourself for a few days. He’ll keep wondering how you look.

Hold on to your emotions.

If you are dating but are not at a point where you are in a relationship, you will have to hold off on telling him how you feel for the meantime. The guy simply enjoys your company and whatever you do have. If you reveal what you feel, and especially if you drop the L word, he may shy away from you and force himself to forget you because he’s pressured. Allow him to miss you and the fun times you have together, without the drama.

History of Italian Fashion

Italian Fashion during Renaissance

The period after 11th century was development and domination of Italian fashion. The development of art was as its peak. Great Italian artists such as Leonardo da Vinci gave one of their best masterpieces. The Italian fashion was also influenced by the art during that period. Great attention was paid to the extravagant dresses. The rich merchants with large amount of money at their disposal were ready to spend lavishly on the expensive clothing. They showed their power and status by competing by dressing extravagantly. Intricate designs with complex fashions were made. Just like modern fashion, no rich tradesman would wear dresses that were out of fashion.

There was increased consumption of highly fashionable cloths with greater stress to the quality of textile cloths. The demand in high quality cloth materials led to manufacture of fine fabrics.

The fabrics worn were patterned and had extremely expensive cloth materials such velvets and brocades. The men’s garments were short and wide with long robes decorated with ribbons and jewels. Richly decorated hats of different shapes matched their costumes.

The Decline of Italian Fashion

The gothic style which is simpler style became popular in Italy and influenced Italian fashion. The dominance of Spanish fashion led to decline in Italian fashion. The spotlight moved from Italian fashion for next hundreds of years. For centuries, Italian fashion faded away in the world of fashions.

The Revival of Italian Fashion

Post World War II, the Italy exported accessory fashion items and leather goods. It was effort of Florentine Businessman Giovan Battista Giorgini who attempted to bring Italy in the global fashion world.

There was revival of Italian Fashion on 25th February 1951, when Giovan Battista Giorgini held a fashion show in Florence. Giorgini keeping in mind the international audience threw an extravagant party at his villa. He had invited buyers and journalists to cover the show. The models were noble men and women who wore extravagant Italian clothes in the ballroom. Giorgini wanted to show that these expensive clothes are worn by rich influential people with ease. The fashion show became overnight success. In July 1952, Giorgini again organized a fashion show with names such as Capucci, Valentino and Armani became instant success.

Till 1970s the fashion was especially for rich and famous people. With change in time, the Italian fashion concentrated and designed cloths for common man. In 1970s to 1980s, Milan became a fashion landmark and created current trends such as blue jeans and mini skirts which were affordable for common people. The most stylish and trendy dresses were available to common man at a low price.

A Fabric Such As Silk Stands the Test of Time

Most of us enjoy silk products, as it is a fabric that many individuals love. We love the feel of the material silk, whether it is a silk scarf, a silk tie or bed sheets. While almost all individuals are aware that it comes from silkworms, how many of us really know about its production. Its manufactured products mostly come from silk that is produced by moth caterpillars; however, there are other insects that also produce it. The one from moth caterpillars or the mulberry silkworm is considered to be domestic silk, while silk that comes from other insects is said to be wild silk.

In order to produce various garments, it must be cultivated. Cultivation of domestic and wild one is very different and the end products differ as well. The wild product is gathered, of course, in the wild and normally after the moth has already emerged from the cocoon. When the moth emerges, much of it can be torn, resulting in the threads that make up the silk being shorter than if they were cultivated commercially.

Domestic one differs in that the moths are never allowed to leave the cocoon; therefore, they cannot damage the thread. Actually, the pupae never reach the moth stage, as they are either dipped in hot boiling water or a needle is used to pierce them before they reach adulthood. This allows its thread to be removed from the cocoon as one continuous thread.

China receives the credit for first developing the silk fabric and it is thought that their development of it can be dated back as far as 6000 BC. At that time, because the luxury of a fabric was considered to be a status symbol, its products were mostly worn by Kings. Later on, the use of it spread throughout the land, but was still mostly worn by those who were rich.

The feel of the fabric and the natural shimmer were the qualities that made the fabric so attractive to so many. Later, the trading of its products became so popular that the collective trade routes between Asia and Europe became known as the Silk Road.

While many items have made their way through history, only a few have the distinction of standing the test of time and having a huge impact on the world. A fabric such as silk is one of those items. Pure silk fabrics had a huge impact on the world thousands of years ago and still today is a large consumer product. The use of it has changed the world, almost from the beginning and will most likely continue to have a huge impact on future generations.

Where Is the Worst Place to Get Hit by a Paintball?

It’s a question somebody brings up pretty much every time I go paintballing, I’m used to hearing the different approaches people at when I ask them, where do you think is the worst place to get hit by a paintball? I mean paintballs can legally be shot at around 200 miles per hour! So that is pretty fast, thankfully most sites have a limit, which is much, much lower.

Paintballs aren’t designed to hurt, in fact they are designed to do the complete opposite, which is why most of the time, they don’t really hurt you at all. I mean you get that stinging feeling, which is usually how you tell you’ve been shot, of course it depends on where it is. So I’ve been asking around and here are the 5 worst places to get hit by a paintball.

#5 – The Neck

Most of the time when your playing paintball, you find your neck unprotected by anything, making it a open place to get shot, pretty painful depending on the speed and a lot of the time can end up bruising and result in people asking “Who gave you a hickey?” for a few weeks afterwards. You can wear, well anything over your a neck, scarf, a neck warmer etc, but it’ll still hurt quite a lot!

#4 – Inside the leg

I’m sure we’ve all done it, the game is almost up and we decide to make a quick run to complete the game, weather it be grabbing a flag or whatever and of course, being the end of the game, every-ones shooting their last paintballs, you’ve been running only to find somebody has shot the inside of your leg, really sensitive area and really does sting!

#3 – Back Of The Head

This really can hurt, a lot of the time if you do get shot in the head, you’ll find yourself bleeding, bleeding from your head is, well never good to be honest, you can wear full helmets which will protect the back of your head, but most paintballing centres have half-face masks, which only forget the front of your face.

#2 – The, well yeah

I’m sure everyone has seen this happen to somebody, somebodies either got a great aim or somehow ended up shooting you in the, well private-area, it really, really hurts, I’d ware a cup of your friends have a bad sense of humor and try this one on you!

#1 – The Hands

Mainly the fingers to be honest, where you usually leave your hands exposed while shooting with the gun, it makes it a prime place for paintballs to hit, your fingers have got loads of different nerves in them, making it even more painful. You can easily prevent this simply by wearing a pair of gloves.

Accessories and Their Uses

The term accessory relates to many things including wearing apparel, such as a scarf, jewelery, glasses, and so on, to those bits and pieces we put around our home or office for decorations. We may have accessories on our dinner tables, such as the candles or flowers that decorate it, and we can get accessories for the car by way of a radio, telephone, television and satellite system, by way of examples.

That means that anything that fits into the category of non-essential items for the normal function of the main object is an accessory. With that out of the way lets look at some of the accessory items that Wikipedia and other references list in that category. They just might surprise you.

  • Books, plants, vases, lamps, and any decorative items such as pictures, mirrors and so on are rated.
  • Tools involved in stamp collecting, such as tongs, hinges, etc, along with the adhesive to attach a stamp to mail are included along with aerogrammes.
  • Also listed are the mounts, perforation gauges, stock books and magnifiers.
  • Stamp albums, catalogues and philatelic literature can also be regarded as accessories.
  • Additional ornamentation such as the bindi, bangles, maang tika, armlets etc. worn in traditional Indian clothing.
  • Ties, cummerbunds, vests, shirts, gloves, hats, shoes, handkerchiefs, cuff links, studs, cane, spats, socks, suspenders or ascot are also there.
  • Supplemental components to enhance the function of something or to enable multiple products to function together are called accessories.
  • The cars spare wheel, tools and other things supplied by the manufacturer including air bags.
  • All items not offered as standard equipment for the vehicle are on the list.
  • The use of distinct elements; coppered metal and the purity of the white is categorized as such.
  • Gold or silver corners for a cover or flip pages on a book or photo album are listed.
  • A photo inlay for front cover of anything in any size or position is there.
  • Different types of attachments to body piercing stems, such as threaded and captive balls, spikes, jewels and other shapes and designs, make the list.
  • Supplemental bits added to a cabinet, often referred to as bells and whistles, plus any nonessential component such as rollouts, pullouts, tilt-outs, hardware, etc. are accessories
  • Superman’s cape is an accessory but a Star Wars Freeze Frame slide is not.

More could be added here but the details show that the term accessory can incorporate any article that is used in relation to an item but which is not essential to perform its primary task. So one might term items within a home as accessories, such as bits of furniture outside of the built-ins like cupboards, shower, sinks, flooring, walls, roof, wash basins and the like under this banner.

It is somewhat difficult, therefore, to actually draw the line on what is and what isn’t an accessory. Using the above information makeup is an accessory along with the tools used to apply it, so too the comb and brush, hair spray, shampoo and so on used in the beauty process. In fact, the list is endless and when shopping for accessories, especially through the Internet and an Internet shop one is not stuck for choice.
