How to Deal With an Interview Running Overtime

What happens when your interview runs over? One of the biggest issues in recording audio interviews, can be it running longer than you had expected.

If you want a good 45 minute to an hour interview edited, I would ask for an hour and a half. If you really want to go for it and make sure there’s nothing scheduled after that, say we’re going to need two hours. This gives you the extra time to make sure you get what you really need.

If you’re hesitant about doing that, you can always just take what you get. Ask for an hour, and settle for thirty minutes. Even if you get a good thirty minute interview with a high profile guy, that’s still valuable because you’ve got the interview. You’ve got yourself interviewing them. You’ve got his name, and that’s going to be good for generating traffic and generating leads. You just ask.

You could ask beforehand before you set up with them, say, “Hey, how long will you have?” This will insure that you know how much time you will have from the beginning, and can prepare accordingly. This problem even happens to me. When I was doing an interview with Bill Bartmann, I think we were at an hour and a half, and had more questions I wanted to ask. It was such a good interview, but he stopped me. He was like, “No, we’ve got to stop right now.” So I ended the interview, but I asked, which is all you can do.

Running Injuries Caused by Under Preparation

Since the ‘fitness inspired’ running craze of the 1970’s, Australians have embraced running and jogging as one of the purest forms of exercise. It’s a convenient and highly effective form of fitness, available both day and night (or even in your home with a treadmill), requires very little equipment, and is generally assumed to need very little preparation. But has this assumption of ‘minimal preparation’ set us on a path towards injury?

It has often been said that one of the most common causes of running injuries is over training. But what is over training, and should it be re-termed underprepared?

So let’s explore the most common causes of running injuries that I consider related to under preparation when engaging running for fitness:

Flexibility

There is a minimum amount of joint flexibility required to run efficiently. Restriction in joint flexibility often comes about from acquired muscle tightness, although there are other causes including genetics and prior injury. Running with an inefficient pattern can cause a compensatory strain and imbalance on muscles and joints and is a very common cause of injury. You can get lots of information on running specific stretches on the internet, or if in doubt get some professional advice from a Podiatrist, Physiotherapist or trainer.

Running Style or Technique

Are you a heel, mid-foot or forefoot striker? Do you drive with your hips of power yourself with your arm swing? And does it really matter? There is significant debate within the running public on the best way to run, but despite this confusion one this is for certain and that is that no one technique is right for everybody. Some simple advice for beginners is to ensure that when running do not overstride (take too large a step) and try to make contact with the ground with your foot moving backwards and roughly under your centre of mass/hip and not out in front of you. Again running technique relates directly back to efficiency, so if you running style does match your body you should seek advice from a fitness professional.

Footwear

There are at least a dozen categories of shoes, handfuls of brands and all with their own proprietary cushioning and support technology. Recently there’s even been some parties recommending running barefoot! It’s no wonder that very few of us will pick the right shoe straight of the shelf without some advice.

I think its common sense in our world of hard forgiving surfaces that most of us will benefits from shoes that allows us to supplely adapt to the ground and cushion or support according to our own individual needs.

A simplistic description of a shoe is simply an upper (the cloth covering the foot), midsoles (the middle bit) and outer soles (the hardwearing outer part) all stuck together. For running, an upper should be largely made from light weight and breathable mesh. The midsole construction in top brand athletic shoes is highly complex. On offer is a choice of added cushion, support and added durability, and the ability to match the shoe type the wearer’s foot type (see below). These days the materials are often a combination of cellular rubber (EVA’s) and non-cellular polymers (heavier but highly resilient elastomer) placed in areas requiring more localised shock absorption. The outer sole must have a tread pattern designed for forward motion, and with greater durability under the strike point of the heel.

Correct footwear selection is critical to running injury free, and getting advice before purchasing might just be the best preparation you can get. Very few footwear outlets have the ability to accurately advice on footwear choice, so before embarking on running check with your local podiatrist to see if they can provide a video gait analysis and advise you on footwear selection directly.

Foot Type

Your foot shape is as unique as your fingerprint, and can predispose you to a range of running injuries. Foot, heel, ankle, shin, knee, thigh, hip and even back pain have been linked to poor foot posture whether that be high, low arches or essentially normal looking feet. Only a complete running assessment including slow motion video gait analysis completed by a trained profession such as a podiatrist can detect and diagnose this. Don’t be confused by the retail theatre at some athletic stores, as foot pressure mats have no or limited correlation of foot posture or shape.

The ‘false flat foot’ is related to excessive pronation (roll of the ankle inwards) is a common cause of Achilles tendonopathy, heel pain, shin splints (now termed medial tibial stress syndrome), knee and lower back pain and more. High arches or supinated feet can be associated with stress fractures, ankle sprains, outer knee and leg pain plus many others.

A proportion of the population require foot orthotics (custom designed footbeds) to help them run efficiently and avoid injury. Like Optometry for glasses, Podiatry is the only profession trained to prescribe foot orthotics, and for runners these are generally made from a softer resilient rubber and specifically fitted to a correct running shoe. Orthotics can apply a force to the foot to realign the ankle, leg, knee of foot segments themselves. Although sports stores and chemist do sell readymade arch support, these are unlikely to provide the specific support most runners require.

Cross Country Running – The Most Underrated Sport There Is

I absolutely love cross country running. The training, the workouts, the races all make for a wonderful experience. If you aren’t familiar with the sport of cross country, you need to see a race to fully understand what it is all about. Imagine your favorite sport. Now invite all the best teams and all the all stars to play at the same time on the same field. That’s what a championship cross country is like.

Let’s start with what a cross country race is. The distance of a cross country race varies from high school to college, but they are usually between 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) and 10 kilometers (6.2 miles). All the runners start at the same time. The first runner to the finish wins.

To find out which team wins is pretty simple too. Most team races allow seven to twelve runners on each team. The first five finishers from each team count for your team points. The team with the lowest point total wins. In a perfect race, the team would finish 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. This would give the team a total of 15 points. Races can have just two teams racing head to head, or for the really large invitationals, upwards of 50 teams can race all at the same time.

Another reason why cross country is so unique is all the runners are running against each other at the same time. Imagine taking all the best track runners and letting them run against each other. That’s what happens. Many high school and college cross country teams have great long distance and middle distance runners racing together. People from the 400 meter dash up to individuals who run the 2 mile on the track squad will make up a high school team. In college it is usually the track runners from the 1 mile and up that make up the cross country squad.

Training for the sport is unique too. Often, many of your training runs are done on the trails or running around hilly terrain. I have been able to run at so many beautiful state park trails because of cross country. To improve, you have to build up the amount you run gradually. This way you avoid injury, but you get your endurance level up to incredible levels after months of training.

Finally comes championship racing season. At the end of the season, there are two big races. First comes the qualifying race for the championship. At this race, only a select few teams and the top few finishers qualify for the championship race. For the final race of the season, all the best individuals and teams come together. It’s like the Super Bowl and Pro Bowl wrapped into one event. As a competitor, you get to run against the best of the best. As a spectator, you get to see a great individual race as well as watch the teams battle it out in the middle of the pack.

In the fall, check to see where your local high school team races, or where the local college holds their home meets. Seeing a race in person is a unique experience. If you aren’t sure about joining your high school team, I guarantee you won’t regret it. Running cross country brings the best out of people. There is something about working together towards a common goal that sticks with you for a lifetime.

Benefits of Running an Arrest Warrant Search

What is an arrest warrant search and how do they work?

A warrant is issued by a judge from the state that will allow the arrest of the person the warrant is issued for. With that said, it also gives authorities the right to search that person’s property.

What kind of arrest warrants can be issued?

Arrest warrants: A crime that shows enough evidence that the state issues the warrant for the arrest of that individual.

Search warrants: A court order that allows authority to search a home or location for the evidence of crime.

Execution warrants: Permit to implement the death of a person.

Share warrants: Completely different than other warrants as these are issued by public limited companies. Remember private held companies cannot issue warrants.

Bench warrants: Typically given because the individual does not show up to court. These typically are issued in criminal and civil court cases.

Civil warrant: You see these types of warrants typically in small claims court over small issues.

What are some reasons an individual would want to run an arrest warrant search?

Checking on themselves:

It is not uncommon for someone to run a public record check on themselves. There could be outstanding warrants or other public data that he or she has forgotten about.

If you choose to run a report and do so online, you must know the individuals first and last name along with the last state or current state that individual resides in.

Multiple results will usually come back from your search and you should narrow those down to the best of your ability.

Getting back into the dating scene?

If you or someone you know is getting back into the dating scene it may be wise to run a public record search on the individual in question.

Running a quick arrest warrant search could be a great starting point into finding out about the new he or she in someone’s life.

Sports and coaches should be checked.

Do you have a new coach that is coaching your kids? if so, you should check them out to make sure when you leave your child or children behind with him or her they are with someone that has a clean record.

If you find out that you or someone close to you has an arrest warrant out for them, you should seek professional help with a lawyer to clean up the warrant in the quickest and safest way possible.

Always find proper professional help, it can be very complicated to try and correct a warrant on your own.

In conclusion, there can be many reasons to search someone’s background.

Remember it is always better to be safe than sorry. Do your homework and make yourself and family as safe as possible.

A Few Reasons Why You Should Not Wear Running Shoes to Lift Heavy Weights

There are a lot of people who go to the gym to do weightlifting, but do not have the proper pair of shoes to do the task. I have seen a number of weightlifters wearing sneakers or running shoes while lifting some serious weights. This can be very dangerous as well as considerably decrease performance.

Most people who go shopping for their first pair of “gym shoes” usually tend to look at things like looks and comfort since they don’t know that there are proper weight lifting shoes available in the market. Weightlifting shoes are designed for a purpose and running shoes or any other type of shoe must not be used for weightlifting for a number of reasons.

First, weightlifting shoes have hard soles which are designed for stability and performance enhancing. The stability given by hard soled shoes is much better as compared to running shoes. The reason behind this is that while lifting heavy weights, a lifter must bend the knees and ankles to their maximum limit in order to go as low as possible. There is a great amount of force that is produced and all that force can make the weightlifter lose balance if he has no hard foundation to stand on, especially when he is bending so much. Try lifting weights on a trampoline and you will see how hard it is to remain stable. A hard base is crucial for lifting heavy weights without losing balance.

Another important thing a hard sole does is that it helps the weightlifter to use all the force produced to lift the weights. A running shoe, which always has a soft sole, will not only make you lose balance, but will also dissipate all the force to the ground. This considerably reduces the amount of weights a weight lifter can lift since quite a lot of the force that is being generated to lift the weights is wasted.

Finally, the raised heel of the weightlifting shoe and its benefits must be discussed. While performing a squat (a technique used by weightlifters to lift heavy weights while going under the barbell), a weightlifter must bend the knees and ankles their maximum capacity, along with keeping both the feet flat on the floor. But keeping both feet flat on the floor while bending so much is quite impossible and instead the feet automatically tend to rest only on the ball and toes of the feet. While lifting heavy weights it is only but common sense to have both feet flat on the floor. Weightlifting shoes can take care of this because of the raised heel. The raised heel fills the gap between the heel of the foot and floor and allow for maximum stability.

So the next time you go out to buy a pair of gym shoes make sure you get the proper weightlifting shoes and not some running shoes. You might think that’s it’s a waste of money but once you wear them you will notice the difference immediately and wont regret spending on your new weightlifting shoes.

5 Benefits of Proper Running Shoes

A high-quality pair of running shoes is designed for the active person and gives the desired protection to guide and cushion the movement of the foot and ankle. A poorly chosen pair can result in painful ankles, sore feet or hurting hips after a run. Here are five benefits of wearing the right type of running shoes:

Increase running efficiency

Scientific research has shown that a person running with a proper pair of running shoes uses a lot less effort and energy compared to those that run barefoot. A major reason for this is the extra cushioning in the shoes. For the barefoot runner, it is necessary to expend more energy and use the leg muscles more because of the missing cushioning.

Protection

A well made pair of shoes includes extra protection to avoid issues of discomfort or pain while the feet are under more stress. A midsole section helps to give protection against hard surfaces or objects that are run over. The softer the midsole the greater protection and cushioning it can provide. But, the soft midsole is not the most durable and means it is necessary to replace the running shoes more often.

Controls overpronation

Overpronation relates to rolling the foot too far inwards while running, which also flattens the arch of the foot. It helps to avoid this foot position because it can jar the knee and tilts the leg inward. The risk of running in this fashion can lead to foot problems like bunions, plantar fasciitis and shin splints. There are plenty of running shoes that are made to fix this specific type of problem. Most of these shoes include a stronger piece of material on the inside edge of the midsole which prevents the foot from rolling.

Fixes supination

A high-quality pair of running shoes is also used for fixing issues related to supination which is when the foot rolls outward when running. A downside of running like this is the extra stress put on the bones and ligaments on the outer side of the foot. The best shoes to give protection for supination include those with cushioning in the front and heel, as well as the soft midsole.

Arch support

Proper arch support is beneficial for the athletes with flat feet and certain to make an exercise like running more enjoyable and comfortable. Even though the flat-footed person will get the most benefit from this type of support, it can also help the runners with high arches.

Discount Running Gear

Sports running shoes are one of the equipments much required for running. Choosing the shoe that fits you well and gives comfort is much important as picking the wrong one may be harmful that can even cause injuries to your foot. Buying Running Shoes: 6 Expert Tips to Consider

If you think buying the right pair of running shoes is easy, you need to think again. There is a range of brand new running shoes out there. In this article, you are going to read some expert tips that can help you find the best pair of running shoes based on the factors that you must take into account. The three most important factors include size, fit and comfort. Let’s get into the details.

Tip 1: Consider your Size

First off, size should be your number one factor when making this purpose. To measure your size, stand up with your shoes on. Now make sure there is at least half an inch of room in front of the biggest toe in the shoes. Actually, your running boots shouldn’t be too tight. This is important for a better grip. In other words, your shoes should be at least half a size bigger than your regular shoes.

Tip 2: Consider the Arch

The arch has a great impact on the level of comfort you enjoy when wearing the shoes. In other words, the heels of your running shoes should be at least 8 millimeters high. On the other hand, height is less in case of competitive shoes.

Nowadays, players prefer shoes that offer more cushioning. Therefore, you can find a lot of models that fall into this category. Also, the soles of today’s shoes are more flexible.

Tip 3: Materials and Cushioning

Nowadays, all manufacturers make use of innovative materials to design sports shoes. One of the most common materials is called polyurethane. Actually, these cushioning materials offer a lot of elasticity to ensure your feet move freely in the shoes. Also, the PU foams don’t care about the temperature anymore and work fine in both summer and winter. So, it’s better to opt for a shoe that offers a greater level of cushioning.

Tip 4: Considering Different Models

You can choose to check out different models online before placing your order. It may be hard to buy the right pair online as you can’t try on the pair you want to invest in. Therefore, it’s better to go to a specialized dealer and try on a lot of models before you settle on one.

Tip 5: Help the Dealer

Just because there is a lot of variety out there doesn’t mean you can’t buy the right pair. An easy way of opting for the right shoes is to take your existing running shoes with you to the shop. This will help the dealers get a better idea of what can work best for you. An expert dealer can help you find out which requirements you need to meet in order to get the right pair of sports shoes.

Tip 6: Choose a Good Dealer

A good retailer will listen to your preferences when recommending a good pair of running shoes. They will ask you questions about your running style, preferences, and other likes and dislikes. They will recommend the right shoes based on the type of track you are going to run on. So, if a retailer is not a good listener, you should look for another.

So, you can follow these expert tips the next time you buy a pair of good running shoes.

A Fun Running Workout? Try The Photo Scavenger Hunt – As an Individual Or With a Running Group!

What exactly is, “The Photo Scavenger Hunt?” Well, simply put, you run around your town finding different things to take pictures of. You set a specific amount of time to run, and take as many pictures you can find on your scavenger hunt list.

I am a cross country and track coach. Every season we do this workout as an easy run. We break the team up into groups of five to eight runners. Each group gets a disposable camera. The group then gets a list of items that they need to take a picture of. The only catch with taking a photo is your entire group, minus the camera person, must be in the photo. That way we know that every runner from each group was at each location.

This workout works for individuals too. Just grab the camera, get a list of things to take photos of, and head on out the door. Make sure you set a specific time limit, so you don’t waste time searching for one thing too long. The idea is to get as many things as possible in a short amount of time. It is almost like running a bunch of mixed distance intervals with short recovery.

Here is an example list of items that we used for the past seasons cross country photo scavenger hunt. They were given 45 minutes to try and get as many pictures of these items. Now some things are picked specifically for the distance they need to run to get them. Smarter groups will plan their route so they can cover the least amount of ground and maximize the number of pictures taken.

1. By a restaurant.

2. With a stranger.

3. By some water.

4. In the woods.

5. Help pump some gas.

6. By a church.

7. On some swings.

8. Doing your favorite stretch.

9. By the water tower.

10. By your favorite car.

11. Doing yard work.

12. Helping a citizen cross the road.

13. By the railroad tracks.

14. On the football field.

15. By an ugly car.

Now, some of these locations are more than one mile from where we start. If our runners planned ahead, they could make a complete loop of five miles and cover each item on the list. This makes for a nine minute mile pace. Now add in the fact that you have to stop for the picture. You end up with a fun, yet somewhat challenging workout.

I never saw a group of kids get so excited to run before I did this. They asked to do it every week. I told them that it is quite expensive for the whole team to do this. Our bill was just under $100 for eight disposable cameras and then development of the pictures.

So there you have it. A true “fun” run. I am going to develop one on my own for training this summer. The world seems a lot brighter and more exciting when you have to look for certain things. It makes running fun and fresh, even for an old running veteran like me. Try it out. I bet you’ll like it.
