The Omega Garden, The Ideal Commercial Hydroponic System or For The Indoor Grower

In today’s world if there is space we will fill it and now with less and less space to grow, vast acres of farmland are hard to come by. Not to mention the environmental strain the farming puts on the land and our resources. But with the Omega Garden there is always room to grow. . .up! That’s why the Omega Garden is such a wonderful method of vertical farming, which I’ll discuss in greater detail later. The Omega Garden is a rotating hydroponic garden that can be used just about anywhere. It comes in a variety of sizes so there is a unit for every type of grower from the apartment dweller to the commercial farmer. It is THE ideal commercial hydroponics system.

The Omega Garden is a cylindrical unit that rotates around a light source so that all plants maintain the same level of lumens while being supplied with the proper amount of nutrients from a tray at the bottom. The Omega Garden rotates the plants continuously, as the plants rotate into the tray the roots are dipped into the nutrient solution supplying the plant with food and water. The Omega Garden utilizes less resources than a traditional plot of farmland. The nutrient solution is reused over and over as the plants rotate so there is less water used and it definitely uses less electricity. The Complete Omega Garden utilizes less than 1300 watts of power while at the same time yielding a 3-5 times larger crop than other growing methods from 50-300 plants, depending on the variety of plant you chose to grow.

The Omega Garden relies on a concept they have named orbitropism based on geotropism which is when auxins which are plant growth hormones that aid in plant growth and strength. As the Omega Garden rotates the auxins are distributed evenly throughout the plant instead of being pulled downward from the effects of gravity. The rotation and the even distribution of the auxins allows the plants to grow stronger much faster.

But not only does the Omega Garden maximize your growth rate while minimizing the consumption of electricity it also is environmentally friendly. Vertical farming with the Omega Garden is an important step in saving what little land we have left. We are already using the 80% of available farm land and 15% of that land has been ruined due to poor land management. As the population grows we can already see that we have nowhere left to grow more food. But with vertical farming and the increase of the population living in urban areas we can farm indoors in any area at any time of the year. This can greatly increase our food supply while at the same time decrease the strain on our dwindling resources. Vertical farming with the Omega Garden is also more economical since there is less crop loss, less power used, less manpower needed, and less water used. So with the Omega Garden you get more product for less money! Use this commercial hydroponic system for your commercial farming needs or simply grow your own veggies at home in your garage or basement.

The Complete Omega Garden comes with just about everything you need to get started for . The assembly is easy and it is even on wheels so you can move the garden if needed. With the Omega Garden you can grow more, pay less, and feel good about yourself for helping to contribute to the new wave in farming by vertically growing.

The Trademark Up Myth

Today’s hitters are plagued with the problem of wood bat breakage. Nowhere is this more apparent than the recent maple bat dilemma in the Major Leagues. Dangerous fragmentation of maple bats that has resulted in serious injuries has brought to light the hazards created when no attention is given to proper instruction of hitters regarding edge-grain orientation at the point of contact. Most wood bat breakage issues can be resolved by properly orienting the logo (or trademark) so as to place the edge grain parallel to the flight of the baseball at the point of contact. This is the position that yields the lowest breakage and the highest hitting power.

The traditional saying “logo face up”, has its origins in the early years of baseball when hitters used a different style of hitting. Hitters like Gehrig, Dimaggio, and others swung the bat more linear and transferred more weight to the front foot. This forward momentum kept their upper body level and thus the bat barrel did not rotate. Today’s hitters use a rotational method of swinging a bat. More weight is placed on the back leg with the hitter rotating the torso. This causes the shoulders to dip toward the ball and creates rotation of the bat barrel. The result is today’s hitters tend to hit with the flat grain of the bat more often and this results in breakage and loss of power.

To cut down on breakage, hold the bat in front of you with the logo up (or facing you). Then rotate the logo towards your lead shoulder (shoulder closest to the pitcher). The more you hit off your back foot, the more you should rotate the bat toward the lead shoulder. The maximum angle should be 45 degrees. You may want to place a mark on the bat once you get the ideal alignment. This should put your bat in the proper hitting position with the edge grain aligned perfectly to hit the ball. This proper alignment not only will decrease breakage dramatically, but will also increase hitting power due to the restriction of the flexion of the bat.

Other things you can do to reduce breakage include:

• Use a heavier bat. A -3 metal swinger does not equate to a -3 wood swinger. The metal bat has higher strength than wood at low weights. -3 wood bats break more often than -2 wood bats. Remember, there is no such thing as -3 trees. To get lower weights you have to sacrifice density and that decreases strength. Ideally, you should hit with a wood bat weighing the same as the length. A 33″ bat should weight 33oz. The difference between an even weight bat and a -3 is less than a hamburger patty so man up and move up in weight for better performance.

• You can also increase the handle diameter. Most wood bat companies offer handles below 1″ in diameter which means the bat will break very easily. Old school handles were often greater than 1″ which made the bats slightly heavier but reduced breakage. Also, a larger diameter handle means less flexion and that equates to greater power.

Lastly, pitchers with good fastball movement can saw you off on the inside and there is not much you can do about it. But, a majority of bats that break did so when hitting the outside pitch and in particular, off-speed. The ball doesn’t need to be thrown hard to break a bat. Hitting off the last 2″ of the barrel causes the bat to flex backwards excessively and will fracture the bat at a point close to the hands and the break will be formed at the leading edge of the bat. This is opposite that of a bat broken by an inside fastball that breaks on the trailing edge. An inside fastball hits the handle and stops the momentum of the handle. The barrel, having more mass, continues forward and causes a U-shaped bowing of the bat forward. This causes the bat to break at the hands on the trailing edge.

The key to hitting the outside pitch is to hit it off the back of the plate. This will allow the barrel to hit the ball solid and drive the ball hard to the opposite field. Not timing the outside pitch properly causes poorly hit balls off the end of the bat, weak squiblers, broken bats, shame, ridicule, losing, you get the picture. Practice hitting for power to the opposite field. It can only be done by hitting off the back of the plate. You should never begin hitting practice with inside pitches you can pull. Always have the BP thrower start you with outside pitches and work the pitches inward.

Recently, the MLB passed a series of wood bat guidelines. In these guidelines was the requirement to place logos on the “face of the grain” instead of edgegrain. This would decrease breakage and by their own admission, decrease performance. Oddly enough, this method works for breakage because now instead of the players rotating the face side of the grain toward the baseball, they now rotate the edgegrain toward it. Unless of course, the hitters know the facegrain orientation causes decreased performance and do not put the logo side up but place the logo facing the pitcher or catcher. We have observed this to be the case.

The corrective technique mentioned in this article could have accomplished the same result without the widespread chaos and large amount of expenses incurred by bat companies to comply with the MLB rulings.

Remember, good technique and focus reduces bat breakage and increases performance.

Swing Your Golf Club Around Your Neck

I know this may sound bizarre, but the swing thought to swing your golf club around your neck is not a bad one at all. In a way, it will simplify the golf swing for a lot of golfers who are struggling with consistency and even power. There is so much wasted movement during a swing (I should know), that it wreaks havoc on your ball striking. Causing shots off the toe of your club, the heal (or even hozel – dreaded shank), as well as thin and topped shots, which all lead to a poor outcome.

So what’s this thought about swinging around your neck right?

Well, your head is the heaviest part of your body, so where your head goes, your body quickly follows right? So if you move off the ball with your head on the takeaway, you are going to sway (or slide with your body too). For every wasted motion going back, you must duplicate it coming down to get back in a relatively consistent impact position for solid shots that go straight.

This is just added junk that should not be in your swing to begin with.

So to simplify this, all you need to think about is a steady head when you go back and come down. I know it sounds too easy, but it actually is fairly easy to do. They always say, eliminate your swing thoughts down to 1 or 2, especially when you’re playing. How about get it down to ONE?

If you can simply think of your shoulders rotating around your neck, you can master this game. So the takeaway, should be your right shoulder going BACK (not to the side) right away; with the feeling of that rotation around your neck and upper spine. Rotate your right shoulder as far back as it can go, and you’ll be making the biggest backswing you’ve ever made. Now your core is ready to unleash all that coil and power in your downswing.

So all you have to thinking about coming down is getting that left shoulder rotating immediately as you are dropping your arms, so you come down on plane and not over the top. When you make this new move coming down, you are going to be shocked at how much store energy you have without making that really hard swing, which causes tension, and tension slows down swing speed.

So remember, your new thought is to “swing your golf club around your neck”.

Jitter Ring Basic Moves and Tricks (AKA Chatter Ring)

The Jitter Ring prop is also known as a Chatter Ring among several other names!

Hold the metal ring and strike the smaller, colored discs. As you rotate the ring, the discs begin spinning faster and faster, like mini-gyroscopes! At first, the challenge is to keep all the discs spinning, then there are lots of tricks and stunts to master!

How Does it work? (here comes the science bit!) The Jitter ring is really just 5 little tops of slightly unusual design which are strung onto a metal ring so that they can freely spin. Have you ever noticed that when you spin a coin on a surface, it appears to spin much faster just before it comes to a halt? It’s the same with these little tops! You have to keep each of these little tops in perpetual wobbliness! This rotation of the spin axis is called ‘precession’ and causes the ring to press on one side of the hole in the spinning top. The contact point between the ring and the top can be thought of as a gear that changes the motion of the upward moving ring into the top’s spinning motion.

How to Get Started

  1. Hold the large metal ring with one hand.
  2. Use your other hand to spin-up washers. One method that works particularly well is if you rest the beads on your index finger halfway up the ring, and then flick the beads to the side with your thumb.
  3. Once the beads have begun to vibrate, you need to rotate the ring towards yourself. What you are doing here is actually pulling the large ring through the small beads! The friction from this action is what keeps the beads vibrating/spinning fast.

If you are having problems with this basic move, don’t worry, you are not alone! The most helpful tips I can give would be as follows:

  • Try to hit all the beads evenly when starting the ring up. Remember that the aim is to vibrate the beads, not to wallop them with as much force as you can manage! Use a light but firm touch.
  • Try to move the ring smoothly, without wobbling it from side to side. You will notice that the faster you move the ring, the higher the beads rise towards your hands.
  • Practice, Practice, Practice! You need to master this trick before you can move on to doing all of the tricks described below!

Some more tricks

Throw and Catch: It should be possible for you to throw and catch the Jitter Ring once the beads have started wobbling. It takes a bit of practice for the beads not to have stopped, and for you to make a firm solid catch (and not catch the ring at the part where the beads are!) As soon as you catch, begin feeding the large ring through the beads once again to keep the speed up. How high can you throw and catch while successfully keep the beads spinning?

Backward Turn: Grasp the ring with one hand and begin turning it. You need to keep the large ring moving through the beads during all of this time or else the beads will come to a halt. Once the ring has completely turned, you will need to remember that the ring will now be needing to go in the opposite direction through the beads! It’s not as easy as you might think! You have a choice of turning the ring the full 360 degrees, or reaching the point where you are feeding the ring backwards, then returning the ring back the way you turned it. Turning clockwise is easiest with the left hand and vice versa for right hand.

One Handed: Once you get the beads going, you can then just use one hand to keep feeding the large ring through the beads. It is quite tricky, but you can keep going for a long time once you get the hang of it! Basically you need to get the beads started (using both hands), then pull the ring toward you and down, then grab further from you and pull the ring down again (and keep going!)

360 Flip Start: By getting the ring going really fast and just throw it high so you can catch it but in mid air have it spin a completer circle done with a good flick you can catch and continue.

Foot Start: Hold the ring down and kick it with the outside edge of your foot just lightly but firmly hitting the beads to get a spin.

Bus Driver: To perform this you have to hold the jitter ring like you are driving a bus, then rotate it around. Be careful you don’t hit your hand though!

Flip: Toss it in a flip, catch it and keep going.

Sideways Hold: Turn the Jitter-ring on its side and change the angle you are holding it at.

Turn Around Your Hand: Turn the Jitter-ring round your hand and continue.

Throw Over Shoulder: Throw the Jitter-ring over your shoulder, and continue.

Rollercoaster: The trick is quite simple, but requires a good grip. get the rings rolling and turn the whole ring 180 degrees, how it would be laying if it were on the floor. you can then pass it back and forth from hand to hand to keep the rings rolling around the main ring and keep your hands out of the way. this is where the grip comes in. there’s going to be a second or two of time where you will be holding the main ring upright from one edge without letting the other side drop. hard to explain, but if you have a set in your hands, it’s easy to see what I’m getting at.

Follow the 10 Idiot Proof Diet Rules and Lose Weight

“The Idiot Proof Diet Handbook” is used by the popular weight loss plan Fat loss 4 Idiots. This handbook is based on ten rules on how to lose 9lbs per 11 days. If you adhere to these rules, you can do it too. Below I have listed these ten rules:

Rule #1 – Use the calorie shifting concept. The calorie shifting method is a key concept in the Fat loss 4 idiots diet plan and is the single most important factor that makes the Fat Loss 4 Idiots diet more effective than other traditional diets. Although, how you do it is explained very detailed in the Handbook. You don’t really have to think about what to eat because the system will generate a meal plan for 11 days automatically based on your favorite foods.

Rule #2 – Meal rotation With this I mean that you should rotate your meals from protein meals one day to carbohydrate meals the next and so on.

Rule #3 – Limit your eating Limit what you eat to four meals per day with at least two and a half hours between each meal you eat.

Rule #4 – Prepare your own meals All your meals must be prepared at home. Stay away from fast food and other restaurants. You need to have the full control of what you eat.

Rule #5 – Stay away from candies Candies, snack foods and sweets now and then of course you can eat but do not make this a habit. Limit it to let’s say once a week, for example, on Saturdays.

Rule #6 – No sugary drinks or soda pops.

Rule #7 – Avoid gravies and rich sauces. You can season your food as you want though.

Rule #8 – You must drink water many times a day first and foremost because when you drink water you will fill up your stomach and thus automatically eat less. Moreover, it’s healthy to get your system cleansed regularly with water.

Rule #9 – Allow plenty of time for your meals. Eating slowly will prevent stuffing and overeating.

Rule #10 – Walk 30 minutes each day at least. Walking is a great way of exercising when you want to lose weight.

If you follow the idiot proof diet rules listed above you will be on the right path for accomplishing your weight loss goal. Don’t expect miracles with these rules alone; to shift your metabolism into high gear and really speed up your weight loss you need to learn a couple of other tricks.

Why a Pallet Inverter Might Be Right for Your Business

A pallet inverter (also called a pile turner) is a machine used to turn over pallets while they are still loaded with product. Depending on the machine, pallets can be rotated up to 180 degrees. A fixed base frame houses a rotating frame that has a clamp mechanism. The clamp works hydraulically, and the rotation is powered by an electric motor. The loaded pallet is placed in the machine via forklift, and then inverted. A new, replacement pallet is then placed on top, up side down. The forklift is then retracted, and the operator can start the inversion process with a simple push of a button. After inversion, the damaged pallet can be discarded, and then the pallet can be placed back in storage.

There are many reasons for needing to turn over a full pallet. The most common reason is the need to retrieve and replace a broken or inadequate pallet, without having to unpack the entire load. At times, products also need to be transferred from storage pallets to shipping pallets, and vice versa. Sometimes a load of goods can shift, and a pallet inverter allows the load to be righted. They are helpful to the food industry, as wooden pallets can be exchanged for cleaner plastic or steel pallets. In addition, certain goods need to be inverted in order to prevent settling.

Pallet inverters save time and money. Unloading and reloading pallets is time consuming and costly. Without a pallet inverter, a company must pay its manpower to transfer the goods from pallet to pallet. This ties up the workers, and also puts them at risk for injury. The double handling of the product increases the chance for damages to occur as well. A pallet inverter can be a stand alone machine, but it can also be incorporated into an assembly line to assist with a system of pallet inversion and transfer. A one time purchase of this type of machine can be a wise investment for any company that must accept and ship goods on pallets.

Even delicate goods can be safely inverted, as long as the load is placed correctly into the machine. Most pallet inverters are able to handle a wide variety of goods and products, which means it has few limitations. However, if packaging material is weak, the load may still need to be unpacked and repacked by hand. These machines are large, so a company needs to have dedicated floor space to accommodate it. Some types of pallet loads may not be suitable for inversion: for example, ones with irregular tops or sides. If there is a high volume of pallets to be inverted, a full cycle time of 25 to 40 seconds needs to be taken into account.

7 Steps on How to Be an Effective Host-Hostess in a Restaurant

There are many skills it takes to effectively host or hostess in a restaurant. Customer service is always the main focus of this job. There are 7 easy steps you should know to make the customers happy and do your job effectively.

1. Greeting Customers.

When a customer comes into a restaurant the host or hostess is usually the first person that they see. It is important to make a good first impression. You should always be smiling and greet the customers no matter how busy you may be. It is important to acknowledge the customer even if you have to tell them you will be with them in a minute.

2. Seating in a rotation.

Depending on what restaurant you are working at, there are different kinds of seating rotations. Seating guests in an appropriate table or booth for the size of their party is the most important. Then going by a rotation among the waiters and waitresses is important so that they can have enough time to greet and take care of each table, as well as have an even amount of customers each shift.

3. Maintaining a wait list.

When the restaurant gets busy and the dining room fills up you need to maintain an effective wait list. Keeping customers in order of when they came into the restaurant or called ahead. Make sure you give the customer an accurate estimation of a wait time and do whatever you can to make them happy while they wait.

4. Setting up reservations.

When customers make reservations for larger parties they expect to have their table ready for them at a specific time. It is important to make sure the reserved table is clean, has enough chairs, enough menus and appetizer plates for the number of guests, and has any other previously specified things like balloons or high chairs for small children.

5. Giving customers menus, silverware, and dinner specials.

This is the most basic part of seating guests, making sure that they have clean up to date menus, as well as silverware and a napkin, and a list of the dinner specials. It may also be necessary to make sure there is a drink and/or dessert menu.

Poi Spinning Basic Moves and Tricks

Poi has a long tradition with New Zealand’s Maori people. Spinning Poi are weighted balls at the end of strings, which have a long, colourful ribbon attached, so that they can be spun around the body making hundreds of different patterns.

In order to gain a basic understanding of how poi works, you should consider that you are standing within a large dice. There are 4 walls surrounding you (front, left, behind and to the right of you) and of course the floor below you and ceiling above you. These six walls will form the planes/areas that your poi move in. You have a poi in each hand. Please try the following basic moves to get started.

  • spin both poi going forwards
  • spin both poi going backwards
  • spin one poi going forwards and the other going backwards

Now combine these movements (above) with changing the speed of the poi, so that:

  • the poi both move at the same speed (synchronised)
  • one poi is half a circle ahead of the other one (out of synchronisation)
  • spin one poi above head and one to the side (out of synchronisation so that they don’t collide!)
  • draw circles in front of your body – in both the horizontal and vertical planes

Basic Tricks To Attempt once you have Mastered everything above

Criss-Cross

Use just one poi to begin with.Start rotating the poi forwards, then cross your arm over across your body so the poi is rotating forwards, but on the other side of your body then bring your arm back so the poi crosses to the original side. Try and get this so the poi does one rotation on each side of your body. Now switch hands and repeat the procedure so both hands can do it. Now finally try this with a poi in each hand

2-Beat Weave

This is actually a criss-cross with the poi out of sync. Each poi does one rotation on the same side of the body.

Butterfly

Hold the poi in front of your body at arms length. Swing the poi inwards so they are spinning in sync and slowly move your hands closer together. Eventually one hand should be above (and slightly in front of the other. This works well if your wrists are very relaxed. With glow poi this trick looks great, and you can really see the Butterfly’s wings.

Circles

You can spin large circles that keep your arms outstretched, or you can spin lots of little circles directly in front, behind or at the side of yourself. You can spin circles under the leg. The only place you can’t do a big circle is behind the back (unless you are totally double-jointed!) Practice with one poi to discover all the different places you can spin a large and small circle, then try with 2!

Tadpoles

Draw a circle in front of you with a poi parallel to the floor (just like you were stirring a cup of tea). The circle should be small. Bring in the second poi so that it does an alternating circle (eg so they don’t collide). This looks like 2 tadpoles swimming in a pond. The tadpoles can then go in the same direction.

Poi can have a steep learning curve while you learn certain tricks and it is much easier to learn from finding someone at a Juggling Club to teach you (or through seeing diagrams in a book or watching someone on DVD), but with enough practice and the occasional bit of guidance, you will soon be moving the poi fluidly all over the body and even become more flexible as you attempt the behind the back tricks!

How to Break-In a Slowpitch Softball Bat

In the past, softball players have been able to purchase a softball bat that was ready for use immediately. With advances in modern softball bat technology, some new model bats now require a break in process. Bats that are created out of composite materials will need a break in process, while alloy or aluminum bats will be ready to use at the time of purchase. It is often difficult to tell a difference between an alloy/aluminum bat and a composite bat.

The bat should be clearly marked on the label, whether it is made of alloy or composite materials. When in doubt ask the person selling you the bat, the type of bat it is. If your bat is composite, it is time to start the break in process. In simple terms, using your bat is the most effective way to break it in, but we will give more detail on how to do this in a way that makes your bat last longer and be more effective sooner. You will need a few things: your new composite softball bat, real softballs (not rubber or softer training balls), another person, a softball field or baseball field and a pitching screen (optional).

To begin, set up the other person sitting on a chair or bucket in front of the pitcher’s mound and behind the pitching screen if they choose to use one. Get the person to underhand, softly toss you pitches over home plate. Use your new softball bat to swing at each pitch. Use about half of your normal swing power with each swing and rotate the bat a quarter of an inch in your hands between each swing. The bat rotation will allow the bat’s barrel to be broken in evenly. If you only hit on one side of the bat during the break in process, then your bat will crack on that side quicker than you would like. Hit fifty to one hundred pitches in this way and rotate your bat barrel between each swing. It is best to focus on contacting the pitch on the composite barrel each time. You may want to take a break or pitch to your partner for the next round of pitches.

For step two, the person that elects to pitch should now stand up and try to duplicate a softball pitch seen in a game. Move the pitcher and the screen if it is being used to the actual pitching rubber. The pitcher will pitch the batter the ball over home plate. Now the batter, still using the new composite bat, will swing at the ball with full power swings. Like in step one; the batter should rotate the bat a quarter inch in his or her hands before swinging again. Use the bat to hit fifty to one hundred pitches at full power. At this point, you should be feeling more effective launch of the barrel of this bat. However, if the bat does not feel fully broken in it is acceptable to repeat step two until it feels ready for game play. When your bat is fully broken in, you should discontinue using it in batting practice sessions and save it for game play. This will slow the inevitable of your composite bat’s barrel breaking. Use this process to start the break in process correctly. Happy playing!
