Fun Easter Activities For Kids

The lead up to Easter is an exciting time for kids so you may want some fun Easter activities to keep them busy, happy and settled in this exciting time. There are loads of activities that you do with kids that are not only fun but are also educational. When you choose Easter activities for kids at home or at school, you may as well choose something that will not just let them have fun but it will also help them to learn and grow.

There are many, many worthwhile craft Easter activities for kids of all ages. Design an Easter card or get creative with eggs. Try painting eggs, dyeing eggs or even making picture with crushed dyed, crushed egg shells. Decorating egg shapes is also a great Easter activity for kids of all ages. Just cut out an egg shape from card and the kids can cover it with bands of bright, colorful, crumpled pieces of paper. Kids can also be encouraged to decorate an egg shape with bands of patterns and to keep the patterns symmetrical.

One of the few craft activities that I remember doing myself as a child was actually done after Easter as we needed the beautiful, foil paper that the Easter eggs are wrapped in. We glued pieces of paper all over a jar to cover the outside of the entire jar. We then varnished it when it was dry and the result was a really beautiful jar that could be used for any purpose. This special Easter activity for kids to do after Easter is wonderful way to encourage recycling of jars and Easter egg wrappers.

Once you have tried some craft with the kids there are also loads of puzzles and games that can be tried. Why not make your own Easter board game? The kids can enjoy making the game board and inventing the game and then afterwards they can enjoy actually playing the game. This Easter activity will also bring out their creative side.

Easter Bingo is another fun Easter activity for kids to play again and again. They can make their own bingo cards with Easter words and then play Easter bingo with the cards. The caller can have all of the words on small cards and draw them out one by one.

Next try an Easter puzzle. One that is really simple is to organize is an Easter Bunny Word Scramble. Use the words ‘Easter Bunny’ or the word ‘Chocolate’.

Give each person a pencil and paper and have them write either ‘Easter Bunny’ or ‘Chocolate’. They then write down as many words as they can think of that can be made using the letters contained in the words ‘Easter bunny’ or ‘Chocolate’.

A prize is given to the person who comes up with the most words and also to the person who has the longest word. Off course the best prize for this game is a Chocolate Easter Egg or Easter Bunny!

Another great Easter puzzle is to make your own word search filled with Easter words. The kids can also practice their spelling skills by playing Hangman with Easter words. You might like to change the Hangman to something with an Easter theme like a bunny or an Easter basket.

Well I hope this has given you loads and loads of ideas for Easter Activities for kids. Happy Easter!

Owner Operator Insurance – Non-Trucking, Bobtail & Unladen Liability Definitions and Impact

As in any business model, Motor Carriers (MC) utilizing Owner Operators (OO) enjoy certain benefits while also assuming additional risks. One such risk is the potential “uninsured” exposure of the OO while not in a “business use” capacity for the Motor Carrier. The MC’s Trucking or Commercial Auto Liability (AL) insurance policy provides coverage for the motor carriers’ owned units as well as any hired tractors and trailer during their time of hire. Coverage ceases for an Owner Operator once they are no longer in a “business use” capacity for the Motor Carrier. The concern is the OO continues to utilize their vehicle while displaying the MC placard and may not have other insurance available. Many times, the “deep” pocket of the MC is called upon to make the injured 3rd party whole.

Three products have been developed to address the coverage gap for the Owner Operator.

Non-trucking Liability:

Cost: Low

Protection to Motor Carriers Auto Liability: Low

Market Availability: High

Non-Trucking Liability provides protection for “personal use” by utilizing a Trucking or Commercial Auto Liability policy form and attaching a “business use” exclusion. The difficulty arises in that the definition of “business use” is not typically defined in the policy rather it is derived directly from various state and federal court decisions interpreting this phrase.

Unfortunately, “business use” has been interpreted very broadly and extends beyond “dispatch”. Following are some typical scenarios that would not be covered by the Non-trucking policy due to the broad interpretation of the “business use” exclusion:

  • OO drops load and his heading home to include a trip deviation to the grocery store (courts determine OO is owed a trip home)
  • OO takes vehicle to garage on weekend for maintenance (courts determine OO is maintaining unit in accordance with MC lease requirements)
  • OO is out of town, between loads. He goes to movie theatre. (courts determine OO is out of town at direction of MC)

Example of Coverage: OO utilizes their truck on personal time to run to grocery store and hits another vehicle.

Bobtail Liability:

Cost: Medium

Protection to Motor Carriers Auto Liability: Medium

Market Availability: Low

Many in the transportation industry use the same terminology for Bobtail Liability and Non Trucking Liability, when actually they are quite different. Bobtail defines coverage as “any time the trailer is unattached” whether or not the OO has been dispatched by the motor carrier.

Example of Coverage:

  • OO drops load and bobtails to pick up next load.
  • OO drops load at end of day and bobtails homes.
  • Be aware the Bobtail Policy will not respond anytime a trailer is attached, even if truly in a personal situation, e.g.:
  • OO brings homes an empty trailer and runs to the store on the weekend.
  • OO uses his tractor to a move a mobile home on weekend.
  • OO assists a friend in moving by pulling trailer with household goods

Unladen Liability:

Cost: High

Protection to Motor Carriers Auto Liability: High

Market Availability: Very Low (Per Class Basis)

Unladen Liability provides the least ambiguity in coverage and the broadest level of protection for the MC and OO. This policy provides coverage while bobtailing (no trailer attached) as well as while deadheading (trailer does not contain or carry any cargo – no bill of lading), regardless of dispatch. The difficulty with this coverage line is the low availability (typically not available in a master settlement deduct program; rather the OO’s need to obtain on a direct basis).

There are pros and cons to each of the coverage models which vary depending on the risk tolerance and the operations of the Motor Carrier and Owner Operator. Deciding on the right program can be critical to managing your risk. Enlist the help of a qualified insurance broker to review your current insurance programs and operations and to provide suggestions and options that best fit your needs.

Which Washing Machine is Better For a Person With a Chronic Back Pain Condition?

Back pain is a debilitating physical condition. You might need to adjust your daily habits so that you will not aggravate this condition. This physical problem also hampers daily activities such as washing clothes. What type of washing machine is a better choice for people with chronic back pain?

When it comes to washing machines, you have two primary choices: top loaders or front loaders. Front loaders are considered better types of washers because they consume less energy and water. However, this might be too cumbersome for a back pain sufferer to use. Because of the front loading structure of this machine, users will have to bend down in order to stuff their clothes inside.

This leads us to the choice of top loaders. Because these washers have vertical axis drum, you don’t have to bend down to load your clothes in the drum. You just drop your clothes. This is a good choice for people suffering from this condition.

On the other hand, there are also ergonomic ways to use front loading washers. These washers have spiffier functions that will make clothes washing a tad easier. The only drawback is the bending part. But you can install the washer in such a way that it is easier for you to stuff your clothes inside the drum.

Put a platform or place it in a cabinet. Make sure the height is just enough so that you won’t have to bend down. There are also front load machines that can be installed against the wall. These are a little more expensive but its futuristic design will definitely ease up your laundry work.

You might also want to consider using front load washer and dryer combo. Because this machine features two functions in just one machine, you can make your laundry work a lot easier. You don’t have to baby sit the washer and wait for the washing cycle to finish. This machine, after the washing cycle is done, will immediately transition to the drying stage. The only work you will do is to put your dirty clothes in and get your clean and dry clothes out.

These are your choices if you have chronic back pain condition. You should not let your condition get in the way of your leisure. You should not also let your laundry chore to get in the way of your relaxation. So choose the right washer and do your laundry work without aggravating your condition.

How Insulated Panels Speed Up The Construction

Introduction

Insulated Panels are prefabricated building panels used in floors, walls, ceilings on buildings. Installing insulated panels for building constructions are aimed to ensure the energy efficiency, easy and fast installation and a decrease in operating costs. A structural insulated panel (SIP) is a composite building material; consisting of an insulating layer core sandwiched between two layers of metals.

Features of SIP

SIP’s are commonly made of the Oriental Strand Board (OSB) panels sandwiched around a foam core made of expanded polystyrene (EPS), extruded polystyrene (XPS) or rigid polyurethane foam. Other materials such as plywood, pressure-treated plywood for below-grade foundation walls, steel, aluminum, cement board such as Hardie Backer, and even exotic materials like stainless steel, fiber-reinforced plastic, and magnesium oxide can also be used in replacement of OSB. SIPs provide continuous air and vapor barrier as well as increased R-Value compared to traditional constructions. When labor cost, material waste and energy efficiency are considered SIPs are comparable to more conventional building methods.

History

The Idea of Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) introduced The Forest Products Laboratory in Madison, Wisconsin in 1935. The laboratory developed a prototype panel consisted of framing members, plywood and hard board sheathing, and insulation. These initial panels were used to build test homes and tested after 30 years to reveal that the panels retain their initial strength. In 1952 Alden B. Dow created the first foam cores SIPs which were being mass produced in the 1960’s.

How to use SIP

The SIPs are designed to resist axial loads, shear loads and out of edge loads. These can be used for floors, walls, roofs etc… for the buildings. They have the ability to resist the bi-axial bending and lateral shear; so, they are very much suitable to be used as roofs and floors. The most widely used panel joint connections are the Surface spline and Block Spline. The Surface spline Joint Connection consists of the strip of OSB or plywood inserted into slots in the foam. The block spline is a thin and narrow SIP assembly that is inserted into recesses in the foam along the panel edges. These connections result in a continuous foam core across the panels. This helps to eliminate air filtration at the joints.

Another joint connection is Mechanical cam locks; create a tighter joint between the panels. In any type of connection, the seam along the sheathing must be covered with a continuous line of panel tape. Openings may occur at the edges and corners of the panel, and so the panel foam can be recessed to access lumber headers. Any opening within the SIPs that accept another enclosed element must be properly sealed.

Benefits and Drawbacks

Benefits:

1. SIP provides the tighter building envelope and the walls will have higher insulating properties.

2. Decrease in operating costs.

3. Buildings made with insulated panels can be easily dismantled and reused

4. Insulated panel properties (strength and thermal insulation property) will remain the same if reused.

5. It is cost effective as it can be installed easily

Drawbacks:

1. Quite poor performance with respect to the noise control.

2. Can be damaged by moisture. Better to use the panels with waterproof surfaces.

3. Panels should be properly protected from pests/insecticides.

4. Requires a proper mechanical ventilation system

5. Modification of the initial project is costly.

Conclusion

The Structural Insulated Panels come prefabricated and ready to be assembled, and hence it helps to speed up the construction. Also, it requires minimal equipment and workforce and hence cost effective.

Load Balancing in a Nutshell

The basic concept behind load balancing is to share work amongst many devices. So for example if you request a page from the BBC website a device called a load balancer will intercept your request and send it to one of many BBC servers who can handle the request. If this load sharing did not happen you would be waiting a long time for a response from the BCC server. This is because the single server responding to the request would have to handle each request for a page in sequence and there are usually lots of people who will be making requests to the BBC website at the same time. So this means that you will end up in a long queue and in order to avoid this queuing a device is used to distribute the incoming page requests amongst many servers so that no one needs to wait too long for a response.

What this device is doing is sharing incoming page requests across multiple hardware devices or servers. This means that many simultaneous requests can be handled quickly. There are two main types of load balancing used today:

  • software and
  • hardware

The Apache Web Server is one typical example of software that is used to distribute requests amonst many servers. In fact Apache is probably the most commonly used software for this purpose. It accepts the web page requests and shares them across multiple backend servers who in turn provide the response to the user.

Hardware devices can also be used to as load balancers. In this case a hardware device such as a switch distributes the requests amongst the backend servers. This is faster than using software as it is the hardware itself that does the load distribution rather than software running on the hardware. The two main types of hardware device used for this purpose are servers and network switches.

So in a nutshell load balancing is the distribution of incoming requests across multiple backend devices (servers) so that multiple simultaneous requests can be handled quickly.

How to Erect a Concrete Column

Concrete columns are used for carrying loads of a building. They transfer the same to a suitable soil bearing capacity. They carry loads horizontally, vertically and laterally. They can be erected as free standing, used for hanging gates. Alternatively they can be incorporated within the walls of a building structure. Concrete columns are made from steel and concrete cast in a form work. These are done in circular, rectangular or square shapes.

In erecting concrete columns the load to be carried is considered. This determines the size of column and type of reinforcement to use. The process of erection commences by setting up a base. A pit is first excavated to a suitable soil bearing capacity in depth. Blinding to the pit is done to protect the soil touching the steel reinforcements. When the base is cast, steel is exposed. This reinforcement is used as starter bars for the column.

Form work of the required column size is formed first aside. The already tied steel is joined together with the starter bars. This ensures the column starts from the ground upwards. The steel should be free from oils and rust. Use binding wire to tie together all steel. Its important to cast concrete in lifts. This should not exceed two thousand five hundred millimeters in height. When the steel work is complete, then form work assembly starts.

The form work for erecting a column is fixed by opening the sides. Its then slid to have the steel inside the box. Once the box is upright, the form work is then fastened and supported on all sides. Concrete is then poured and vibrated until it reaches the top of the box. It is left for seven days. Curing is done from the top. After seven days the form work is then removed to expose the cast column. This is continuously cured for another Seven days.

3 Benefits of Flatbed Trucking

Flatbed trucking is a practical option to transport the large, bulky goods that need the open space of a truck trailer or need to be lifted by a forklift or crane. Some of the common items to transport include plumbing supplies, machinery, airplane wings, lumber and cars. Here are a few pros and cons related to flatbed transportation:

Ease of loading

The open nature of the flatbed trailer is appreciated for the complete ease in loading. The enclose trailer has a confined space and this can make it very difficult to load large items, such as a prefabricated roof. However, the flatbed has the ability to give complete freedom on what can be loaded and will accept the largest pieces of plumbing supplies or lumber. Also, on arriving at the intended destination, the unloading process is much easier and completed in a relatively short time.

Variety of materials

The flatbed trailer is a useful option if planning to transport a high volume of different materials on a single trip. This makes it possible to easily move materials for interior work, basic framing lumber and other essential supplies for a housing project. A great benefit of this is the ability to cut shipping costs for faster project completion and higher profit margin.

No loading dock

While the dry vans are the most popular option for transporting goods of all types, they do have certain limitations. A major issue with this type of van is the need to have easy access to a loading dock to quickly load and unload its contents.

However, the flatbed trailer does not have this type of restriction. It has the ability to deliver loads to virtually any location. This can include a residential neighborhood or a large construction site. The greater flexibility in use makes them more appealing to the contractors and lumber shippers.

Are there any negatives?

In addition to the positives of using the flatbed trailer, there are also a few negatives that are worth mentioning. A trucker in control of a conventional trailer only has to be concerned with damage goods in the event of a load falling over. But, with the open nature of the flatbed, there is the potential to cause significant damage to not only the load, but also those nearby if anything should fall off. For this reason, it is essential that the flatbed trucker is a skilled, detail-oriented, and organized person.

How Can I Make My Website Load Faster

Improving your page load speed can increase conversions and drastically improve the user’s experience using your website. Thankfully, there are some very simple things that you can do to improve your page load speed.

The More You Have on a Page the Longer It Takes to Render

These are called HTTP requests, and they bring in the components of all the things on the page – from images to style sheets and everything that makes your website look as it does. But there are ways to minimize the HTTP requests so that it doesn’t make it take longer. Even a few seconds of improvement will mean higher conversions.

Use the Information on Google’s Webmaster

Google Webmaster gives you all sorts of tools to use, including something called Page Speed Tools. This allows you to analyze the speed of your website, as well as gives you suggestions of what to do to fix it. You can also use Chrome to install various extensions that help you keep your site running fast.

Be Sure to Compress Where You Can

If you are creating very long, high quality pages, they are likely huge and require a lot to download to your visitor’s computer. When you can reduce the size of the pages, which also lowers the HTTP response, you can get the pages to load faster.

Ensure Browser Caching

If you don’t know what that is, it’s the way that a browser downloads parts of the website on the user’s computer into their temporary storage when you call up the website more than one time. This will make the page load faster each time they visit your website. It’s an important way to speed up a page.

Format Images Properly

On websites, the best form for an image is JPEG, which will load the fastest. Next is PNG, and finally do not use GIFs unless you must for animated gifts. Never use BMPs or TIFFs as they will not work correctly.

Optimize Your Style Sheets

It is thought to be better to use only one external CSS style sheet. Every additional style sheet will increase the slowness of your website. The more you can combine external CSS files, the better the speed of your website will be. If you’re not sure about how to do these things, you may need to seek out an expert.

Reduce the Number of Redirects on Your Website

Many people use redirects for affiliate programs and other reasons to make the link look prettier or to hide the affiliate link code. However, while these are great uses for redirections, try to keep them to a minimum. Redirects take more time to send the code to the user and will slow page speed.

Use Fewer Plugins

Many people use website builders like self-hosted WordPress to build their websites. These builders have little applications called “plugins” that expand the functionality of the website. These are great, but it’s important that you find or purchase themes with as much of the functionality already available as possible and use fewer plugins to accomplish what you need for your website.
