Celebrate Anniversaries With Big Band Era Finesse

Celebrating 25 years, 30 years, or 50 years? Do it right with a dance band that keeps the bodies moving!

If you’ve been married 35 or 40 years, you probably dance to the Disco Era at your wedding… Why not revive the memory?

I’m sure you’ve heard all the Saturday Night Live jokes about white suits, disco balls, and those hideous polyester bell bottoms, but have you also heard about all the fun and excitement of dancing on a well-lit dance floor?

Pre-Disco excitement came with the best Rock and Roll the world has ever offered, featuring decadent, memorable, and ‘sing-able’ tunes that everyone knows the words to. You can sing-a-long with the bands that came before Disco, and dance every tune.

With all the excitement over healthy activity, one of the most exciting and fun ways to move is through dancing. What better way could there be to celebrate the years you’ve spent together? Bring on the dance bands!

More recent years have brought an affection for flappers, big band era music, and dance styles of the 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s featuring tunes of our grandparent’s era. Celebrating an anniversary with a themed band, selective music, and perhaps costumes or period style dress would bring in nostalgia for older family members, and make memories for the younger generation.

Cross the lines of those generation gaps with exotic, mind-blowing possibilities, and fun.

Generation of Big Band Era Grandeur

Perhaps the eloquence and snap of romance from Grandpa’s tails and top hat, a gardenia for Grandma, and the smoky mystery of a moonlit night would invite nostalgia back into existence? After a regalia, house parties on the islands, and a day of celebration, returning to the evening dance to celebrate an anniversary of a gentler era? A night of romance…

Chill the Champagne for Enchantment

Whether you celebrate anniversaries at Custer’s Last Hot Dog Stand every year, or The Knob by candle light, planning a special event for that enchanting anniversary (the one with a special number) is required. Set the stage with champagne elegance, and a candle light dinner. And bring on the band.

Dance the Night Away

Nothing bring romance like a dance under the stars. You’ll want this memory. You’ll need this time together as the years continue. Celebrate with your favorite tunes. And dance until the cows come home…

We don’t celebrate the big anniversaries enough! Every generation benefits from the reminder that anniversaries matter, and celebrating them with a planned event, big bands, show bands, or dance bands, plus memorable moments throughout the day, of the years that have passed should be a requirement. Plan your event and fill it full of memories and music.

The Morning After

It was the summer of ’67. What a summer it was. I was the head lifeguard at Conference Point Camp. The camp was known as a family vacation spot on the shores of Lake Geneva. But, it was that summer and the romance that ensued that stands out in memory even after all these years. Time has a way of healing broken hearts. And, yet I kept thinking about what could have been. Back then my future was pretty well mapped out. But, sure enough the unexpected always has a way of interrupting ones path in life. That unexpected encounter happened so quickly, knocked me for a loop as they say. Her infectious smile held me captive in ways I can’t explain. It was like a trace, so fixated on her every move. When people say love at first sight is a rarity at best, yet, I could tell a mutual affection almost instantly.

For two short weeks we were at each others side. The night before the morning after under a moon lit sky we walked hand in hand while our feet were sliding through the sand. The gentle waves were rolling in on the shore matched the rhythm when lovers hearts beat. As we kissed goodnight I never knew it would be the last. Slowly she walked away waving goodbye. That afterglow kept me warm all through the night. The morning after the rain kept pouring down. The call of duty beckoned me to come on down. Though no swimmer came down to the lake I sat their waiting as the rain ricocheted off the lake when word came back to me that my love was gone. Not a word and not a trace. Her family had left in the middle of the night.

The rhythm of the falling rain hid my tears of anguish, sorrow and grief. The breaking of the heart when I was so sure our love would last tore me apart. The relationships that followed for the next five years were all cut short by the memory of that love of that summer of ’67. As time past the heart was healed but her memory still lingers in conscious thought.

More the 50 years later as I look back I was blessed with a life that has known ecstasy of love and the agony of broken hearts. For me though I moved on from that summer of the great love that was never to be. I keep thinking that when you are a young man the eagerness of falling in love only spurs the spontaneity of your actions and in most cases blinds one to when the unexpected happens. Remembering that morning after has stayed with me even after all these years. And, when it rains at dawns early light always brings me back to that summer of a great love that didn’t last.

Options for Beautiful Outdoor Garden Lighting

Applying outdoor low voltage lighting to gardens is a specific application of low voltage landscape lighting. Every garden is unique and reflects both the gardener and the particular landscape effects the garden creates. In fact, there are just as many definitions of a garden as their are gardeners.

Most people today refer to flower gardens and not vegetable gardens when they talk about lighting. But gardens can be hedges, or trees, or cactus, or various combinations of any of these.

Most experts agree that gardens should be lit vertically rather than horizontally. This means the lights should shine up and down, or preferably from above or below the plants to get the effect of the sun shining down on the plants or a reflection of the sun from underneath. This is considered to be the most natural way to light a garden. To achieve this effect, lighting fixtures can be attached above the garden, on trees, walls, fences or even architectural elements. This also keeps the lighting elements safe from being knocked about by children or pets.

Since the garden lighting will be displayed in the dark, it’s important to make people feel safe and comfortable at night in the garden. To do this, experts recommend you add lighting to pathways, borders and boundaries to give a welcoming effect. If you’re worried about the lights attracting insects, you can add a blue light further away from the garden to attract insects away from the garden. Insects can see a blue shade of light the best, and most will flock to that light.

As far as the type of lighting that is optimally used for outdoor gardens, LED’s are the consensus choice. LED’s offer bright light that can be supported by batteries or even solar power. Their small form factor makes them ideal to use for paths, borders, walkways, fences, statues and even above and below the garden.

When using solar LED lights, their most popular form comes in staked versions which can be hammered into the ground to act as path lighting. On the top of the lights are usually small solar panels which will store power from sunlight during the day and automatically light up the area around them for a few hours at night. LED string lights are also a good option for hanging on fences, walls or borders, offering lots of light with little work to install.

What is Urban Christian Fiction?

Urban Christian Fiction is a genre of emotional, vivid and conflicting stories that mixes God, faith and the urban church. It does not purposely exclude violence or sex from its story line, but weaves it into the plot based upon its relevance. It closely resembles Urban Fiction or Street Lit except, God is the center of the character’s lives. Urban Christian Fiction usually portrays characters of African or Latino depicting urban culture.

Two Main Elements of UCF

Raw Honesty – characters do not water down their feelings as it pertains to God, themselves, or the people in the church; however, blasphemy is not acceptable.

Drama – UCF would not be what it is if the story did not involve a little “drama” in the church. Drama in the church is real people doing real things while serving a real forgiving God. In short, the characters don’t always do it right and sometimes they get caught doing it wrong.

Urban Christian Fiction does not hide sin or cover it up. It exposes the sins, the faults and the shortcomings of its characters while exposing the world to an all powerful God.

Characteristics of Urban Christian Fiction

o It is unpredictable, gritty and raw

o Protagonist experience some form of “church hurt” and tries to discover a way to get over it with the help of God

o Protagonist does not always resolve his/her problems in a cookie cutter manner

o Forgiveness of hurt is real and raw, sometimes not forgiven easily

o Church scandal is eminent and unavoidable – it adds the element of drama to each story.

o The protagonist has an intimate relationship with God. God is the center of the protagonist’s

heart. He or she lives, moves and breathes their relationship with God.

Urban Christian Fiction speaks to the inner soul of the reader that longs for answers to forsaken questions. These life-changing and thought provoking stories leave the reader saying, “Thank God I’m not in this by myself.”

A printer is a device that accepts text and graphic output from a computer and transfers the information to paper, usually to standard size sheets of paper. Printers vary in size, speed, sophistication, and cost. In general, more expensive printers are used for higher-resolution color printing.

Personal computer printers can be distinguished as impact or non-impact printers. Early impact printers worked something like an automatic typewriter, with a key striking an inked impression on paper for each printed character. The dot-matrix printer was a popular low-cost personal computer printer. It’s an impact printer that strikes the paper a line at a time. The best-known non-impact printers are the inkjet printer, of which several makes of low-cost color printers are an example, and the laser printer. The inkjet sprays ink from an ink cartridge at very close range to the paper as it rolls by. The laser printer uses a laser beam reflected from a mirror to attract ink (called toner ) to selected paper areas as a sheet rolls over a drum.

Choosing Landscape Lighting

There are a lot of important factors to consider when you’re thinking of putting in landscape lighting. The exterior of your home is an extension of the inside of your home.

Your style and personality should shine through in every aspect of your landscaping and this includes how you light it up. If your home isn’t properly lit then no one will be able to see it in the manner it should be seen in.

Your landscape lighting is also an important safety consideration for your home. Many studies have shown that homes with good exterior lighting are less likely to be burglarized. It can also be a safety feature for your guests. The last thing you want if for your neighbor to come visit and break an ankle tripping over something they couldn’t see.

In order to get the best and most natural looking lighting, observe the light patterns around your home. Go outside at various times of the day and see where the light is. See what the natural light highlights and what it shadows, this is what you’ll ideally try to recreate.

Using subtle light that tries to recreate the sunlight will create the best look and not look overdone. Also consider what areas of your yard you’d like to highlight. Maybe you have a fantastic garden or a stunning pond, these are things you’ll want to showcase. For these things a more direct lighting source is best.

What you will likely end up doing is using a combination of light sources to achieve a fantastic result. Moonlighting is a very popular technique. Basically its placing a light in the branch of a tree and letting the light filter through naturally, it creates a very dramatic effect.

Uplighting is also popular and is the exact opposite of moonlights. Its placing a light on the ground and letting it shine up at an object. Shadowing is the process of putting a light behind an object and works well for statues or sculptures. Combining these effects and others will make your home truly one of a kind. Now that you have some ideas you can begin installing your landscape lighting.

When considering landscape lighting, be sure to consider LED lights. LED based lighting options are not only cost effective, they are safer to use with less heat and more customizable than other types of lighting options. You’ll also save money!

Turning a Light on Home Security

One of the most important features of any good home security system has nothing to do with buzzers, alarms or wireless devices, but has far more to do with illuminating the problem of residential burglary in America. With a house being broken into more or less every 15 seconds, there is real cause for concern, and more and more homeowners want to be protected. Increasingly people are installing home alarm systems, but unfortunately, a simply alarm might not be enough. The most adequately secure homes incorporate ‘layers’ of security, and the first and one of the best lines of defense is quite a simple solution: lighting. With good interior and exterior lighting, a home can be protected and secured.

Interior lighting is what shows that you are at home. It is the first thing any criminal will look for when attempting a break in, because he ideally does not want to be caught in the act. Showing that your home is occupied and lively during the evening, and especially while you are not actually in the residence is of utmost importance. A simple light timer is a perfect solution, and is a good idea for both indoor and outdoor lighting. Many today can be set to randomly switch on and off, making it so a predictable pattern cannot be detected by any watchful thief. Outdoor lights can be set on timers, or even better on a motion detector system that switches the light on, catching by surprise anyone who has come within too close a radius of your home. A good combination of convincing indoor and outdoor lighting can be an excellent burglar deterrent, and should be used on a regular basis, not just while you are on vacation! The comfort of knowing you are always coming home to a well lit home and property will give you peace of mind in and of itself, since nobody will be able to catch you by surprise! For added protection, try a ‘fake television’ or an automatic radio device, that furthers the illusion that the house is always occupied.

Whether you live in a private residence, or even in a shared building or apartment complex, there are some important rules to remember about exterior lighting. First of all, a burnt out light bulb is an opportunity, so don’t let changing it fall by the wayside. Chances are if you’ve noticed an exterior light has been out for more than a day, someone with less than honorable intentions has noticed it too. Additionally, make sure that all parking areas, driveways, sidewalks, and building entrances are well lit, not only for personal safety against slips, trips and falls, but against anyone who might be lurking in the shadows. Finally, it’s wise to have exterior lighting set up in a manner that doesn’t just illuminate a small area, but gives a visibility of about 100 feet. This allows you to see what’s going on around you. Equally important for home security is having a lighting system that illuminates the perimeter, including any exterior doors and windows. Thieves like to have the element of surprise, so give them a taste of their own medicine by shining a light on their actions with excellent home security and exterior and interior home lighting!

How to Add Spice in Your Relationship

Sometimes in our lives things become boring. Situations as same people same work just a different day. The same is relationships. We must (if we care enough) put the spice in our relationship and keep that fire lit. For example ladies it is okay to buy your man flowers. If he is allergic to flowers than replace that thought with a plant instead.

Fellas it is okay to buy your woman flowers, yes especially if she adores them. Try doing this at least once a week. If you know her favorite colors than buy flowers in those colors. Buy her a card that expresses love and maybe put a smile on the card for her and write the words “I love You”.

If your significant other had a bad day try to make it better for him/her when they arrive home. Try cooking dinner. Lay out all that they need for a long hot shower or bath. Give him/her a massage and treat and talk gentle to him/her.

Do something different make up your own plans such as in a menu. For example if you normally do not go to restaurants take him/her out if not once a week than every other week. Go out for a drink after a long days work. If you live alone with your partner walk around the house naked.

As I mentioned earlier you must be creative, the sky is the limit you will see. If your relationship is worth it and you both love each other than spicing up your love life will be fun.

Should I Tip My Massage Therapist?

Ahhh, thee ole tipping question. People want to know, nobody wants to be the CHEAP guy, that doesn’t tip.

But first the story…

I ordered a gluten free pizza the other day, and the chap came up to the 23rd floor. He had the “I am barely getting through my day” look, on his face. He handed me my bill and pizza, I took my pizza and gave him a $20 tip.

His eyes lit up like Christmas

I presumed that most folks weren’t very generous with him, and when I see the cost of gas these days, I leap out of my skin. I can’t even imagine how low his hourly wage is.

Let me ask you something, is it customary to tip $20 for a $10 pizza? No, it isn’t, but I did anyway because I thought beyond myself. I put myself in his world, imagined what a normal day might be like for him.

If you get a massage at a spa, or hotel, a 15% to 20% tip is standard if you were pleased with the services.

On the other hand, there are no real ground rules or norms when it comes to massage in a medical setting. Some massage therapists say tipping isn’t appropriate in a medical or clinical setting.

I work in a rehab center and I get tips, I work in a clinic and I get tips. I do not work in a spa, where it is expected.

I will throw in some insider secrets to help you decide:

  • Most RMT’s are on a 60/40 split percentage with the clinic they work at. The RMT receives 60%. So even though you may pay $80 for a one hour massage the RMT receives $45.
  • In a lot of day spas, RMT’s are grossly underpaid, in a spa they may only be making $22 per maRMTssage. I have friends that work in spas, so I know.
  • The same for rehab centers, most rehab centers pay out a max of $30 per 1 hour massage to their RMT.

As you can see the businesses are pocketing the majority of the money that you pay. RMT’s do not even get a whiff of the money.

Here are some questions to help you:

1.) How would you feel if the situation were reversed?

2.) Would you like to receive a tip? If so how much?

3.) How would you feel if someone didn’t give you a penny?

4.) How would you feel if someone was extraordinarily generous with you?

That’s your answer in a nutshell. If you tip, it will make our day, it will lighten up our lives. It’s that little extra that we don’t expect.

Tipping well improves relationships, because it makes the other feel special and important. Next time they will want to do more for you.

If you get a discount massage, then definitely tip because the therapist is working on you for half their normal rate.

If you get benefits and everything is essentially free, then why not? Why not make someone’s day.

I tip well because I know the value of appreciation, I know that it will make a difference in that persons life, so I do it.

Christmas Outdoor Lighting

For many people Christmas outdoor lighting enlivens the magic of the holiday season. They spend hundreds of dollars to make their home the brightest most festive one on the street. Some even get into friendly competitions with their neighbors over who has the most lights. It is a time when families get together and enjoy fun, food and laughter. There is nothing prettier than snow falling on colorfully lit home during the holidays.

An ideal time to add to your Christmas outdoor lighting is just after Christmas when all the holiday décor goes on sale. You can pick up all your lighting for the next year at a fraction of the cost. Still, you can purchase what you need in the fall when most stores stock their shelves. There are even websites that cater to the holiday season shopper.

For many adults, Christmas outdoor lighting brings back many memories of the life as a child. Sometimes homeowners will see their neighbors lighting up their yards and that inspires them to do the same. The holiday season can be contagious in its joy and celebration. Even though this time of year can be hectic and stressful, getting the lights setup is necessary for a great many people across the world.

With a wide number of colors and styles, Christmas outdoor lighting is a wonderful way to decorate your home during the holiday season. Your options are virtually endless when it comes to creating a unique outdoor display. C7 and C9 are the original lights. They are popular due to their durability and long bulb life and the variety of colors available. These are best used on a home or evergreen tree. LED lights save up to eighty percent in electricity over the old C7 and C9 bulbs. Thus, many people are turning to these styles of lights to save money and reduce electricity use. If an LED light burns out the entire string is not affected. In addition, their bulb life is considerably longer. They also are available in a wide variety of colors and textures.

Christmas outdoor lighting also includes the popular rope lights. These are small lights enclosed within a rope of transparent plastic tubing. There are a couple of styles of these lights available. The styles are steady or chasing. Steady lights glow at a constant rate while chasing lights appear to chase each other along the rope. These types of lights are great for trimming windows, doors and railings.

Another style of Christmas outdoor lighting are net lights. They are good for covering bushes with hundreds of small lights. Generally, these come with one hundred and fifty lights at a time. Icicle lights are not as popular as they once were but they are still around on some homes. They are meant to give the appearance of icicles dangling from the roof. Lastly, there are spotlights that can highlight trees, windows, decorations or anything you want highlighted for that matter. Regardless of the type of lights you use, it is the imagination of the homeowner that adds to the beauty and joy of the season.
