It does well to raise awareness about the prevalence of such societal problems today.

The dramatic slow opening scene consists of an emphasis laid upon the magazine that the driver is eyeing with a gaze that proves to be quite disturbing to the viewer, portraying his evidently depraved thoughts. The mysterious woman then avails his cab and they have an intriguing conversation, in the middle of which she vanishes into thin air. She reappears again in a different ensemble at the side of whom viewers can only presume to be her lover. The video then skips to the next shot of the driver waking up to find the woman stock-still. Surprised, to see her fall like the dead when he touches her, he checks her pulse and staggers back in horror at the lack thereof. He then proceeds to bury her. However, just moments after the deed, she appears, very much alive, back in his cab.

This entire sequence of events seems to transpire in the surrealistic setting of the subconscious of his mind. The ambiance is certainly as steeped in mystery, as the plot itself as a motif of purple tinted light acts as a symbol of his dream-like state. This is also hinted at by the blurry shots that seem vague and cloudy – never really showing a clear shot of either characters’ faces. Thus, almost as in one’s dream, the imagery is unclear.

The video serves as an exploration of the dirty male Indian mind-set that considers women only worthy of being preyed upon in the darkness of night, never amounting to more than a curvaceous warm body to serve the needs of the men. However, the face of the woman he dared to act inappropriately with, even in his own imagination, haunts him. These hallucinations are likely to have been caused by intoxication but the reason behind it is not what proves to be significant here but rather this serves as a projection of his conscience-stricken mind.

Before Nicholas Cage stole the iconic beauty in the movie “Gone in 60 Seconds,” H.B. Halicki stole a different model with the same name in the 1974 original film.

The Batmobile

This role has been performed by numerous cars in movies and on television. The original Batmobile has resurfaced every now and then in the news, and people have speculated on its whereabouts for decades. Many car aficionados have sought it out for their own collections, but for now it rotates between multiple automobile museums. It’s not a particularly attractive car, and its speed is questionable, but it holds a nostalgic place in the hearts of television viewers who first saw the caped crusader drive it in the 1960s.

The film tells the gripping story of a father who goes to great lengths to send a message to the perpetrators behind the death of his only son. It’s not what you think! Unless you’re thinking like the writer… This is not your traditional revenge story. It is a revenge story albeit with an interesting change.

Corruption is so deeply rooted into the Indian political system that it seems as though there can be no cure for it. Every now and again, Bollywood musters up the courage to develop a politically charged film with a strong message. Depending on the nature of the film, one can expect to attract an audience. It seems as though good films without the typical masala just don’t sell. Madaari however, did quite well at the box office despite treading a different path. There is no item song here. Just two songs are played in the film. The sound tracks are well-chosen and help in keeping the suspense and drama tight. The story is brilliant and the acting brings out the raw emotion behind the drama. Irrfan is impeccable as the bereaved father and kidnapper. Besides carrying a strong political message, the film is quite educative too. Not only does it reveal the dynamics in party politics and the sham-democracy that is practiced in India but also educates in basic human psychology and the use of social media.

There are a number of themes explored in the film but one of the key one’s is the relationship between parents and children. The film contrasts two fathers who have ‘lost’ their sons. One has lost his son to corrupt politics and shoddy development, while the other, who just happens to be the Home Minister of the Country, loses his son in his blind ambition for power and prestige. The film masterfully plays on this emotional bond to drive home a vital message.

This is definitely a film for this year 2019! This is the year of election in our country. All citizens would benefit from watching this film as it clearly reminds us of the state of democracy and the real quality of the politicians we will vote to power. It is definitely a relevant film for years to come and hopefully will continue to inspire people, especially the younger ones to bring about a change in our beautiful country.

If 007 visits you can be sure it will be remembered. On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969) is one movie that puts Portugal on the map, even though with George Lazenby as 007 it was perhaps one of the least popular of the old Bond movies. The movie kicks off on Guincho beach near Cascais west of Lisbon with Bond rescuing Tracy di Vicenzo, mobster’s daughter, from the sea. We see plenty more scenes of Portugal including the dramatic 25 de Abril suspension bridge in Lisbon and the glamorous Palacio Estoril Hotel where Bond stays. Much of the rest of the drama shifts to Switzerland, but these scenic landscapes of Portugal are still memorable today.

Bond’s more enduring face, that of Sean Connery, visits Lisbon in another role and another era. The Russia House (1990) is a spy thriller based on a Le Carre novel and the film stars Michelle Pfeiffer as well as Sean Connery. While most of the movie is set in Russia, (and filmed on location there, a first for western films at the end of the Cold War era) Barley, Sean Connery’s heavy drinking publisher character has a home in Lisbon where he takes refuge in the middle and at the end of the movie, as he waits for the girl to join him after her escape from Russia.

The House of Spirits (1993) has an all-star cast with Jeremy Irons and Meryl Streep, Glenn Close, Winona Ryder, Antonio Banderas, and Vanessa Redgrave in a supporting role. The movie is set in Chile, based on the novel by Isabel Allende, but was filmed on location in Portugal and on set in Denmark. The rural Alentejo region in the South of Portugal with its rolling hills, mountains and hot dry summers doubles for Chile, and Lisbon provides some of the city backdrop to the drama.

Contemporary thriller, The Ninth Gate (1999) by Roman Polanski stars Johnny Depp as a rare book dealer seeking out a supernatural demon text. In the course of his travels around Europe through France and Spain, to track down the authentic copy of the book for his client, he visits Sintra in Portugal. It’s a picturesque area of Portugal just outside Lisbon with plenty of atmospheric hilltop palaces and castles. Depp visits Chalet Biester with its turreted outline tucked into lush green woodland exuding mystery.

The Lisbon Story (1994) was never a big box office draw, but being produced by Wim Wenders it has a certain appeal to movie buffs. Set in and around Lisbon it was originally commissioned as a promotional documentary by the city until Wim Wenders added a story line and some fictional characters to turn it into a full length movie. Of all these movies it is the one that probably shows the most representative views of the Lisbon itself, though the others have bucket loads more glamour!
