"Pleni Sunt Coeli Et Terra Gloria Eius" ("The Entire Sky and Earth Are in Her Glory")

“Pleni sunt coeli et terra gloria eius” –

Thus said a great man to his lady love

And made an order from a primal chaos

That came to him as visions from above.

The sky and earth, he said, are in her glory

And she, as their fulfillment and their fruit,

Lives in a novel and a painting – not a story –

And with her life all vileness does refute.

To be resplendent, kind and warm forever

While battling tragedy and unremitting wrong –

Oppression’s bonds and falsehood to dissever

And still be lovely, elegant and strong:

The sky and earth are in her glory, truly:

And she is their fulfillment in this world –

To be sweet, gentle, wise, and to live fully –

The dreams made real, that had been once deferred:

Pleni sunt coeli and terra gloria eius –

Behold resplendence draped in human flesh!

Behold the consummation of man’s prayers

And take her out of where she is enmeshed!

This flower of splendor – of the universe, really –

This Lara in the midst of manmade ills –

Staying on top of every course and feeling

With mind of roses, tulips, daffodils:

Mankind! See what can be and, in the darkness

Can find and spread and cultivate the light!

See this resplendent spirit, as she sparkles

For many years of an unending night!

Know what mankind can be – don’t ask for saviors –

This as fulfillment, flower, of divine!

Pleni sunt coeli et terra gloria eius –

A marvel and attainment of mankind!

How to Flirt With Girls in the Entire Universe – It’s Actually the Most Enjoyable Thing to Do

Queer but true, too many people are totally baffled by how to flirt with girls and how to make them attracted to you fast. As a result, constant failure in flirting with girls makes it one of the hardest things to swallow for most guys. However, take my words that flirting can be the most enjoyable experience to any guy at all, but only if you know how to do it.

In a nutshell, knowing how to flirt with girls will help you heap especially in attracting the most beautiful women and let you know when a girl is not interested. For example, you need to watch for small non-verbal clues from the girls as they are absolutely crucial in determining the next steps. They way they respond through their eye contacts, they way they gaze at you, etc. And this is literally just the tip of the iceberg in how to flirt with girls!

Honestly, I have seen too many guys committing the biggest mistake in flirting by asking blatantly about personal information from the girls. Not only is it much harder for you to attract the girls after that, most of the time it actually kills off the interest of the girl in you totally without you realising it. Girls are one of a kind and you need to understand the right way of how to flirt with girls to get them.

Lacking in the skill of flirting can be the biggest reason why girls just can’t seem to be bothered with or interested in you all these while. In case you are wondering, the real art of flirting has absolutely nothing to do with what people have been telling you. It does not matter whether you are ugly, poor, short or can’t even spell a word correctly.

An Entire Novel With No Verbs

Can you believe that anybody can write a paragraph without any verbs? Here is something more…. an entire novel without any verbs!!

Believe it or not, French author Michel Thaler published a 233 page novel ‘Le Train de Nulle Part’ (‘The Nowhere Train’) which has no verbs.

While doing some research today, I fell upon some astounding article which I thought would be best if I shared it with my esteemed readers.

According to Language Log, Thaler describes verbs as “invaders, dictators, and usurpers of our literature”, adding “the verb is like a weed in a field of flowers … You have to get rid of it to allow the flowers to grow and flourish.” He has banned infinitives as well as tensed verbs entirely from his writing, but he does exempt past participles from his linguistic Nuremberg Laws.

Sample extracts of the book from Wikipedia:

Quelle aubaine!

Which means – “Fool’s luck! A vacant seat, almost, in that train. A provisional stop, why not? So, my new address in this nowhere train: car 12, 3rd compartment, forward. Once again, why not?”

Something fascinating for sure! One can in no way imagine life without verbs and an entire verbless novel is certainly astounding!

What do you think? Can you try to write a single page without using any verb?

Easy Fall Decorations – Fun Autumn Projects For the Entire Family

Autumn is just around the corner and now is the time to think about your seasonal decorations. Gather the family together for some autumn fun with these easy fall decorations! These projects will get the entire family involved with the fall festivities.

Harvest Window Box: Break away from standard window box designs of chrysanthemums or pansies. This fall season, why not try something new? Add a layer of straw or dried grass to the planter, making sure that some of it drapes over the front and sides. Gather pumpkins and gourds of various shapes, sizes, and colors; arrange these in your window boxes for a fun fall display. For added family fun, have the kids paint silly faces on the pumpkins! If your children are older, metallic paint in deep autumn shades will add a bit of glitz to the display and get them involved with the project.

Pretty Autumn Porch: Once summer passes, our porches are often left neglected and forgotten. Turn that bare porch into a stage for your fall decorations! The steps to your porch can be flanked with large pumpkins, decorated by the kids as suggested above. Then for added color, purchase a metal wreath frame from a craft store and send the kids out into the yard to gather leaves. Using floral wire and a glue gun, attach the leaves to the frame. You now have a one of a kind wreath that the entire family helped create.

Fun Fall Potpourri: Nothing creates the mood of autumn more than the rich smells of cinnamon and apple in rich cider-like aromas. Fill your home with that delicious aroma while creating lasting memories with your family by creating your own autumn potpourri! Send the kids out into the garden to collect the last flowers of the garden, pine cones, and even thick dried leaves. Coarsely chop these and add them to a glass bowl. Purchase your favorite liquid potpourri oils in autumn scents and toss it throughout the collected garden goods. Cover with plastic and let it cure for a few weeks and your family now has its own signature potpourri blend!

Fall Leaf Collage: It is difficult to fully change your décor with the seasons, but you and your family can create a one-of-a-kind focal point for your family room. Take your children out into the yard and collect leaves, but this time make sure that the leaves are still pliable. Let the gather a lot, this project requires many leaves. Back inside; press these leaves between the pages of a heavy book for about a week until they are flat and smooth. Purchase a large frame from a discount store, the bigger the better! Let the kids help you glue the leaves to an inexpensive sheet of poster board that has been cut to fit the frame. I suggest cutting the stems off the leaves, but my daughter prefers to leave them on, it’s a matter of preference. Once the entire board is covered, allow to dry, and spray with dried floral preservative. Place your project in the frame and admire your family’s art!

These are just a few fun autumn projects for you and your family. Why not compliment your creations with some trendy fall decorations? Get the entire family involved this season and create memories for years to come!

Excel Tip – 3 Fastest Ways To Apply A Formula To An Entire Column Or Row In Excel

I am always looking for ways to be more efficient when working in Excel especially when it comes to formulas and functions. Sometimes in an Excel work sheet you may have to apply a formula to hundreds or even thousands of Columns or Rows in your Excel work sheet. So, let’s look at the 3 fastest ways I have found to apply your Excel formula to an entire Column or Row.

  1. Dragging the fill handle. In my experience this is the most common way I have seen Excel users fast fill their Excel formulas.
  • First type the formula in your first cell. As an example let’s use =(B4*$E$1)+B4 typed into cell C4
  • Click the cell you have just typed the formula into-in this case cell C4
  • The black fill handle will appear in the bottom right corner of the cell that contains your formula
  • To fill the entire column- drag the formula down the column, to where you want your formula to fill. To fill the entire row then drag the formula to the far right across your rows you want to fill with your formula.

The formula =(B4*$E$1)+B4 will be applied to your entire Column C that you drag the formula to.

2. Using The Excel Shortcut Keys. This is one of my favourite ways to quickly apply a formula to an entire column or row in Excel especially if you have hundreds or thousands, or even tens of thousands of rows to apply your formula to.

  • First, select the whole Column (or Row) in this case it is Column C
  • Type your formula in C4. In my example it is =(B4*$E$1)+B4
  • Hit CTRL and Enter together on the keyboard
  • Boom. Job done. Your formula is applied to the whole Column or Row

3. Use The Fill Command. This is a really useful fill command which is on the Excel ribbon. This can be applied to both Columns and Rows.

  • Enter your formula in your first cell of your Column or Row. In this example let’s keep to typing the formula in cell C4
  • Select your full set of cells to apply the formula to
  • Go to Home Tab- Editing – Fill – Fill Down (or select fill across for row fill)

These are the three fastest ways I have found to fill an entire Column or Row with an Excel formula or function in Excel.

Maine Coon Cats – The Longest Cat In The Entire World?

As we’ve heard there is a record in the Guinness Book with a cat that has the longest length ever recorded, and yes, it was a Maine Coon Cat. So that ought to tell you something, Maine Coon Cats grow to be, well, huge. In fact, they can easily out weigh a small dog, easily.

Think about it, a really small dog can max out at around 3 or 4 pounds, whereas there are rumors of Coon Cats growing to a size of 30 or more pounds. There’s even one whopper of a tale about a Coon Cat that weighed in at 35 pounds. Is it true? You never know, it’s certainly very possible. The bottom line is that these cats are big, strong, and muscular-sort of like the power lifters of the cat kingdom.

The average weight of a female is around 9 to 13 pounds, and the average weight of a male is from 13 – 18 pounds. But, as you already know, they can grow much larger. In fact, they tend unfortunately towards obesity, and that is something you’ll have to worry about if you take care of a Maine Coon.

The personality and temperament of these large cats tend towards the mysterious and the gentle, which many will find attractive. But, they are definitely a cat, they will disappear on you and are very independent. Unlike some breeds they are very mellow and gentle though, they do not tend to be overly aggressive, hissing all the time, and biting your fingers. Nope, that’s not how the Coon Cat likes to roll.

People are often curious about how to go about finding Maine Coon Cats. Well, adoption through the local rescue shelter would be great, if they have one of these guys. It’s always worth a phone call to one or two local shelters and bless your soul if you’re willing to do that.

Most folks are looking for kittens to raise from birth. And, that’s fine, either way, you’ll be quite happy with your cat, these are indeed noble and gentle giants.

When looking into breeders there are a few different routes to go, you can search for them online, but be careful not to waste your time or deal with unscrupulous people. One of the best ways that we’ve found is to simply talk with and network with other Maine Coon Cat owners.

Don’t know any? Well, you can certainly find some of these folks online in forums and on blogs, make a post and ask a few questions, you should find what you’re looking for pretty fast.

Maine Coon Cats are a wonderful breed that almost every cat lover will adore, just don’t over feed them because these cats don’t stop growing.

In Microcosm Of Sand, Geologist-Writer Evokes The Entire Universe

The word “sand,” much like the words “rock” and “dirt,” is a word one acquires very early in childhood. Sand, rock, and dirt are ubiquitous materials, the building blocks of our planet. We are confronted with them early in life and life requires of us that we know what they are.

Perhaps the most interesting of the three to the young is sand because it is both hard and yet it can flow like water, it is hard and soft, static yet mobile. Sand, the encyclopedias tell is a “naturally occurring granular material composed of finely divided rock and mineral particles.” Even those who have not studied sand know that it comes in a variety of colors and in startling degrees of granularity, ranging from the almost talcum powder fineness of the orange sand of the Sahara to the much more gritty varieties derived from crushed coral which are so prevalent on the world’s beaches.

And now at last there comes a book devoted exclusively to sand, an extraordinary and delightful exploration of this strange corner of the mineral world. It is Sand: The Never-Ending Story by the British geologist Michael Welland, a masterful evocation of a much neglected and yet remarkable and omnipresent basic substance of our world.

From individual grains observed in minute structural detail under the microscope to the vast desert dunes which form like ocean waves on stretches of the Sahara Desert that can be seen from space, from the bottom of the world’s oceans to the landscapes of our neighbor Mars, from billions of years in the past to a future that stretches to infinity — Sand: The Never-Ending Story is an astonishing narrative that encompasses the whole universe in which we live, because practically everywhere in that universe is this stuff, this sand, one of nature’s most humble and yet most powerful and most omnipresent materials.

While this is a book by a professional scientist with a Ph.D. from Cambridge, the story is told with a dramatic sense of language and narrative more reminiscent of fiction and film. Welland is a gifted writer. Sand examines the science of sand, including the physics of granular materials generally, and yet the focus is always on the human context of sand, sand as a material we use every day. That, in the end, is what gives sand meaning in our human world. Interwoven with tales of scientists, sculptors, navigators, the story of sand is at the same time a story of environmental building and a tale of environment collapse, an adventure that stretches back to the beginnings of our planet as a place of solid materials yet a tale that encompasses also the mundane realities of a child’s sandbox in today’s back yard. That is because sand is all around us. Sand is a component of almost everything — it has made possible our computers, buildings, and plate glass for windows, toothpaste, cosmetics, and paper, and it has played dramatic roles in human history, commerce, and imagination. It is a component of concrete, and it is an artifact of weathering. Given enough time, the Rocky Mountains will turn to sand; indeed, the Alleghenies already have. Welland shows us that we can find the world in a grain of sand.

Though he is certainly first and foremost a professional scientist, no one is more fun to listen to as a writer of narrative nonfiction than Michael Welland. He is a born raconteur who might easily have become a writer of pulp fiction (or the owner of a British pub!) had he not chosen the higher calling of studying rocks. His narrative flows with the ease and grace of the best creative nonfiction, adapting many of the techniques of telling stories more typically associated with novels.

His fellow scientists have recognized the power of this book. Sand: The Never-Ending Story won the prestigious John Burroughs Medal in 2010 for the finest book that year about natural history (an honor Welland shares with Rachel Carson, Joseph Wood Krutch, John McPhee, and other luminaries of natural history going back to 1926).

Michael Welland has written an extraordinary book, perhaps even a timeless book that non-scientists can enjoy as much as professional geologists. Welland, who spent many years practicing geology in the United States, now lives in London with his wife and family where he is managing director of Orogen, a geological consulting company he founded, and a Fellow of the Geological Society.

Sand: The Never-Ending Story, 360 pages, is available in hardcover and paperback from The University of California Press.
