This trick resembles a typical ‘pick a card’ trick, except the magician and the spectator are separated by the telephone.

THE TRICK

I call a friend on the telephone and explain that I intend to do a magic trick over the telephone.

I ask her to shuffle and divide a deck into 2 equal piles, choose a card from one pile, note it, and place it on the bottom of the other pile; this is her Chosen card.

I ask her to slowly deal and call out the cards on the top of the pile that contains her Chosen card. She calls out the first card and I stop her, apologizing because I made a mistake; she must cut the deck first. She puts the card back on top. I request that she cut the deck completely.

I now ask her to slowly deal the cards from the bottom of the pile that contains her Chosen card, and to call out the cards as she turns them. She deals the entire pile and I ask her to do it again.

She starts over and I suddenly ask her to stop. I tell her the identity of her Chosen card and that is next to be turned. She turns over the next card, revealing her Chosen card.

PLEASE GUESS HOW YOU THINK YOU MIGHT ACCOMPLISH THIS CHICANERY? It may help if you answer the following questions about this particularly interesting trick: Why did I ask her to divide the deck? THE SECRET

I first asked her to divide the deck, so we wouldn’t have to wait while she called out all the cards in a full deck,

To do this telephone trick I needed a way to create a Key card on the telephone. By asking her to deal and call out cards from the top, and then pretending I made a mistake after she told me the identity of the top card of her pile, I made that card my Key card and wrote it down to not forget it.

The rest of this mechanical, self-working trick played out as described above. The first time she dealt the cards from the top of the pile, I listened for my Key card, and knew her Chosen card was the next card. I wrote down her Chosen card.

Then when she dealt again, I stopped her when she called out my Key card. I then told her the identity of her Chosen card and predicted it would appear next. It did.

My way of understanding this is simple: God is a loving God. A God who sent His Son to sacrifice His life for the greatest sinner, so that that guy and the thousands of us don’t have to be punished for our sins ourselves. Without doing a stick of work we can open the door to heaven and walk inside.

That’s how I see God. The One that overflows and overflows and overflows with love. A God who does it for some and not for others does not fit into that picture. God doesn’t say: Oh, sorry. You’re not the right colour or you don’t speak the right language or you haven’t got the right background. No! God’s heavenly door is open to all sinners.

I suspect being chosen has more to do with people making a choice. When I choose God, I’m also chosen by God. You see, our time and space are different from God’s time and space. And when we want to use our past-present-future model to try and understand God’s multidimensional time, which is so much more than our past, present and future, we fall short.

Then we get stuck wondering if God has only chosen some of us. We’ve already said that’s not God’s way. God’s heart is much, much bigger than a taxi and there’s always space for more people.

Then I realise again that God is so much bigger than me and that the way that I understand Him is sometimes simply not enough. And that’s OK. Or rather it’s necessary, because it forces me on my knees, worshipping the almighty God who overflows with love; who is so big that we humans are simply too small to understand everything.

Sometimes we focus on the wrong things. We spend time trying to unravel things we don’t actually need to worry about. Rather focus on the things that matter. The particularly good news in the verse is crucial.

Jesus died so that you and I, who should’ve died for all the stuff that we’ve messed up, can really live. We have life instead of death. Let’s use our energy to go and live that grace in the world out there. There are still many out there who’ve been called, but who are missing out on this good news because we are spending our energy in the wrong places.

Let’s go out into the world and live Jesus for all the chosen wherever we go.

Here is a barbecue rib recipe that is really mouth-watering and tasty. For the ingredients, all you need are the following:

2 pound baby back ribs, ½ cup onion-minced, 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce, 2 ½ tablespoons honey, ½ cup vinegar, 2 ¼ tablespoons vegetable oil, 1 ½ cups of water, ½ cup tomato paste, ½ cup brown sugar, 1 ¼ teaspoon liquid smoke for seasoning, 2 teaspoons whiskey, 2 teaspoons garlic powder, salt, ¼ teaspoon paprika, black pepper, red chilly pepper, ½ teaspoon onion powder, 1 tablespoon dark molasses.

To start of, season the rib which must already be cut into halves with salt and pepper. Do not overplace salt and pepper, but put a generous amount for taste. Warp carefully it in foil, to avoid early burns and to maintain the flavour and fluids, then bake for about 2 and a half hours. Keep it aside. Take a good sized saucepan that could accommodate a lot of sauce good for your army. Heat the vegetable oil then sauté onions until golden brown. Pour water and tomato paste then stir it very well to mix the flavours well and to avoid big pieces of ingredients, you would not want that. Add brown sugar, honey, vinegar and Worcestershire sauce to make this gravy. Then add salt, liquid smoke, pepper, whiskey, paprika, garlic powder, molasses, onion powder and ground chilly pepper. Bring it to a boil then simmer for about an hour until the sauce thickens.

Brush the sauce on your bbq ribs when it is near cooked state. Remember that this is not a part of the rub. For the rub, you could just grab your favourite rub recipe; just make sure that it would fit the taste of your bbq ribs.

The sauce could also be used as a sauce for your already cooked bbq ribs.
