Suppression of Natural Limestones Deactivation During Cyclic Carbonation

Abstract – The paper summarizes sorption properties of limestones with variable content of calcium carbonate. Changes of sorption capacities during cyclic calcinations and carbonations were investigated using laboratory apparatus with vertical quartz reactor. Application of suitably chosen limestones and process conditions offered sustainable capacity up to 11 kg CO2 / 100 kg of initial limestone. Method of reactivation of the spent limestone using a gas saturated by water vapor was proposed to eliminate decreasing of the capacity in the carbonate looping process.

I. INTRODUCTION

This study is focused on utilisation of limestones for hightemperature separation of CO2 from flue gas within the carbonate looping technology. A post-combustion capture of CO2 from coal-fired power plants and district heat-plants was considered the preferred application of the carbonate looping. Simplified scheme of the process, drawn based on the literature sources [1], is shown in Fig. 1.

Although the carbonate looping is still not a technology expanded into industrial practice, there are some pilot units operated around the world. Alonso et al. summarized basic findings from the operation of the pilot plant using CaO looping, incorporated within a facility combusting biomass in a fluidized bed reactor [2].

Utilisation of CaO based sorbents for high temperature separation of CO2 from industrial processes has been the subject of relatively numerous studies. Good economic availability of these materials make them attractive candidates for solving problems with suppression of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.

A major obstacle to the application of CaO-based sorbents in the industrial practice is a gradual decline of sorption capacity, manifested in repeated cycles of calcination (i.e. thermal decarbonation) and carbonation. Based on experimental data Abanades suggested an empirical formula (1) describing the dependence of the conversion of CaO to CaCO3 on the number of cycles [3].

In (1) the sense of the symbols is following: xN is conversion in N-th cycle, fm and fw are constants.

This formula gave good conformity with the experimental data in a wide range of conditions but its validity has been limited to 20 cycles. In their study Wang and Anthony therefore proposed a different equation, which was valid for a large number of cycles. These authors considered a combination of thermal sintering with other irreversible processes, such as growth of crystals and reactions of CaO with impurities in the gas, to be major causes of decrease the activity of CaO-based sorbents. They also expressed the assumption that the rate of degradation is not significantly dependent on the experimental conditions [4].

Tips To Avoid Wedding Flower Disaster

Your wedding day is probably going to be considered one of the most important days in your life. Getting all of the extensive plans ironed out is critical to the relative success of the day. The day can be overwhelming as everything from attire, food, guests, venue, and especially finances must be accounted for. One of the most important elements of the whole day are the floral arrangements. While many individuals would not think that this is something of concern, flowers demand extensive planning and can often run the wedding party a financial crush.

Let’s consider some helpful tips that can prevent a wedding flower disaster from occurring

Over Prepare:

Choosing your florist with ample time before the wedding is key! Since flowers are, more often than not, priced and chosen according to season, wedding florists need a good amount of time to plan their hefty schedules. You will want to make sure the florist is not over booking you and takes a down payment to confirm your business.

Make sure that everything from type of flower, color, size, arrangement, amount, are correct and in the process of being accounted for. The morning of the big day is arguably the main stressor, so much preparation should be accounted for on this morning.

Be Careful with Lilies:

Lilies are one of the most popular options for flowers on the big day. They are chosen based on their look and fragrance, specifically the Stargzers, but the pollen on these can be a challenge. Should any of this pollen land on the bride’s white gown, a large orange stain will more than likely be visible. This is the ultimate disaster for the bride and, what’s worse, it is incredibly difficult to extract from the fabric. The florist, or you, should cut or remove the pollen from the bride’s bouquet so as not to result in dress disaster.

Timing:

The worst thing that could happen, regarding timing, on the wedding day would be flowers arranged too early. By the time of the reception, they might be drooping in lifeless fashion. Any flowers that should not be set in water should be made and arranged that morning in order to detract limp and sagging flower displays. A mister is also something that will be helpful on the day of the affair, helping to make the flowers appear fresh with water droplets. Sometimes, the florist will spray the arrangements with a special preservative to reduce water loss and lifeless sagging.

The Marketing Environment

No business exists and operates in a vacuum, but as a part and parcel of the environment in which it finds itself. Efficient and effective marketing strategy is a function of the marketing manager’s ability to understand the environment in which the business operates.

The marketing environment consists of a set of factors or forces that operate or influence a company’s performance in its chosen target market.

Jain (1981:69) defined the marketing environment to include all those factors that may affect the organization directly or indirectly in any perceptible way. Marketing environment factors affects the organization by the way of input and the organizations also affect the environment by output. The relationship between the organization and the marketing environment is often referred to as “inseparable” the organization and it environment are constantly in a state of: give and take” or homeostasis.

The marketing environment consist of those forces or element that impacts on the company’s capability to operate effectively in its chosen target market.

The marketing environment is divided into two major components. The elements are,

Internal environment: the internal environment is concerned with the controllable variables. Controllable variables are categorized into two groups, they are; the strategy variables and unmarketable variables. External environment: the external environment is concerned with the uncontrollable variables. These variables are called uncontrollable because the marketing manager cannot directly control any of the elements. The marketing manager is left with the option of adapting to the environment by prompt observation, analysis and forecasting of these environmental factors. The external environment can further be divided into two components, the micro environment and the macro environment.

Micro environment:

The elements that fall under the micro environment consist of forces or factors in the firm’s immediate environment that affect the firm’s capability to perform effectively in the market place. These forces are suppliers, distributors, customers and competitors. Let us discuss each of the variables in details.

Suppliers:

Suppliers are business customers who provide goods and services to other business organizations for resale or for productions of other goods. The behavior of certain forces in the suppliers can affect the performance of the buying organization positively or negatively. The critical factors here are the number of suppliers and the volume of suppliers to the industry. An audit of the suppliers will enable us to appreciate their strength and bargaining power, which the suppliers hold over the industry as a whole. The answers to the issues concerned have the potentials to affect the capability of firms in the industry to effectively deliver need-satisfying goods and/ or services. The trend today is that buyers attempt to persuade the supplier to provide exactly what the firms want. This process is known as “reverse marketing”.

Customers:

Customers are those who buy goods and/ or services produced by the company. In a purchase chain, different people play significant roles before a purchase decision is made. The various influences must be understood. The customer may be the consumer of the products where he/she is the user. The critical factor here is that needs and wants of consumers are not static. They are fast changing. The changes in the preferences of the consumer create opportunities and threats in the market. The changes called for the marshaling of separate strategy to either fit into windows of opportunities or survive the threats in the market. A good knowledge of consumers’ behavior will facilitate the design and production of goods and services that the customers need and want, and not what they are able to produce.

Competitor:

A competitor is a firm operating in the same industry or market with another firm. The consideration here is that, Firm A produces a substitute to that of firm B (industrial approach) or firm A and firm B seeks to satisfy the same customer need (market approach.

Lisa-Marie Presley Has Decided To Walk A Mile In Her Father’s Shoes

Although Lisa Marie has managed to keep her children protected from the spotlight, she has recently gone public with her own musical work.

Lisa has not chosen to go the route of acting at this time. However, she has gone public with several press releases and appearances on news programs. I was able to catch an episode of Primetime Live, which featured Lisa Marie Presley for a full segment.

The news commentator interviewed Lisa and asked her many questions about her life and her past. One of the things they did was show side-by-side film footage of Lisa Marie performing, alongside her father, Elvis Presley. The two performances were at least 25 years apart, in time, but were spliced together to view Elvis and Lisa singing and dancing to show similarities.

Although Lisa is unique in her own right, there are many uncanny similarities between her and her father. Let’s face it, it’s only natural for this to happen. And we love it!

The Way Lisa holds a microphone and moves around and gazes at the camera are strikingly similar to the way Elvis would sing and dance, and sneer at the camera himself. Lisa Marie Presley is undoubtedly very talented and has decided to reflect her talent publicly at this time. The video chosen to display Lisa Marie’s singing ability was the main track from her new CD, To Whom It May Concern. The main track is titled Lights Out.

In fact, the film clip from the video, Lights Out, was the clip shown next to the film footage of her father, taken from Elvis’ 1968 Comeback Special, featuring him in his black leather outfit.

Although Lisa was not dressed in black leather, her clothes were flashy, and her whole aura reflected that of Elvis Presley.

I think that even though much of the major public are not all that crazy about Elvis impersonator’s, the music industry, and Elvis fans alike, are really craving an entertaining personality with the talent and charisma of Elvis Presley.

I believe that even though much of Lisa Marie’s facial expressions, moves, and natural looks are very close to her father Elvis, the people are going to accept this because not only are these features completely natural, they are expected of any offspring of Elvis Presley.

Lisa Marie’s personality, the words she chooses to use, her facial expressions, especially the way she would raise one eyebrow up, open her eyes wide, and gaze at the camera when pleasantly making a joke out of a statement, was especially reminiscent of her father but also very refreshing.

During a very intimate portion of the interview, Lisa Marie stated that she has had some experience with drug use. However, she went on to clarify that she now lives a pretty clean life, for the most part. She shared stories about her past marriages, her children, her mother Priscilla, and memories of her father, Elvis.

Primetime Live also showed some home movies of Elvis, Priscilla, and Lisa Marie in their home environment with Elvis spending time with his family, and playing games with them. As Lisa sat there watching it along with everyone else, her facial expression began to change from perhaps having her guard up and being ready for difficult personal questions, to one of gentle, sweet, memories and peace.

It is certainly very sad that Lisa had to lose her father so early in her life. She seemed to go through things in her life that reflected the pain and difficulty she experienced with losing her father so soon.

With all the difficult times in Lisa’s life, along with the good times, she has come a long way personally and professionally.

Lisa did comment on her marriage to Michael Jackson, but didn’t spend much time on the subject. She spent more time talking about her relationship and marriage with her first husband, Danny Keough. This is the first marriage during which Lisa had a child. Danny Keough also became a member of Lisa’s band in 2004.

While Lisa was in her late teens, and early twenties, she was managed by Jerry Schilling. Mr. Schilling is one of the original members of the Memphis Mafia, who went on to accomplish a successful business career in show biz after Elvis died.

A piece of trivia that would be interesting to all. Lisa Marie Presley’s children provided backup vocals for her on her recent CD titled, To Whom It May Concern.

Which Panniers Should I Use on My Pack Saddle?

So you are ready to start packing. You’ve got your pack horse or pack mule. You have chosen a Decker Pack Saddle or a Sawbuck Pack Saddle. You have chosen your pack pad. Now it is time to choose the panniers. But which ones? Below I have outlined some options and have also let you know what I like to use when I go on a horse pack trip.

Types of Pack Panniers

There are several styles of pack saddle panniers (or saddle packs, as I have sometimes heard them called) which can be quickly grouped as either hard panniers or soft panniers. Hard panniers, as the name suggested, are a box type carrier made from a solid material like wood, aluminum or molded plastic. Soft panniers are more of a bag style made from materials such as canvas, leather, vinyl, etc.

Hard Panniers

Each material used in hard panniers has its pros and cons.

  • Wood is solid and strong, but heavy. Wooden pack boxes are usually mantied. Also wood is porous and can take on water and may shatter more easily in a wreck than other types of hard panniers.
  • Aluminum panniers are lighter weight, but are also noisy and dent easily when banged against trees and rocks. Once dented, it can be difficult to reshape them back to their original form, which can prohibit your lid from fitting correctly again.
  • Molded plastics are lightweight, but tough and can be shaped to fit the animal’s body. They seem to survive wrecks as well, if not better, than the other types of materials. These panniers are strong enough to be used as a step stool or seat in camp and some models are designed to convert to a table or flat work surface. I personally prefer hard panniers made from molded plastic.

Molded plastic hard panniers

There are three types of molded plastic hard panniers: horse shaped, box shaped and bear resistant.

  • Horse-shaped pack boxes, like Ralide-West HorsePacs, are curved in the back to follow the shape of your pack animal’s ribs. These panniers hang straighter on the animal and, therefore, provide you with a slightly narrower load and a flatter shelf for your top pack. However, the curved shape of these boxes affects the amount and shape of the packing space available inside the pannier. You have to work around the curve and large, square items may not fit as well in these pack boxes.
  • Box-shaped panniers, on the other hand, like Ralide-West ProPacs, are rectangular in shape, which can simplify packing your gear on a horse pack trip. These panniers are large enough for a smaller wall tent stove like the Riley Side Kick. However, the rectangular shape does not lay flat against the animal, so your pack load is a little wider going down the trail and the pack boxes ride at more of an angle. This means the tops of the boxes will not be as flat, but your top pack will still ride just fine.
  • Bear Resistant Panniers (sometimes known as Bear “Proof” Panniers, although this is misleading) are designed with lids that are inset and screwed down to keep bears from being able to pry the lid off. These panniers are often required by the Forest Service in areas with high bear populations to prevent bears from getting into human food and becoming habituated and a nuisance or danger to humans. If you travel through or camp in these areas without bear resistant panniers, you will need to hang your food to prevent bears from getting into it (100 feet from the tent, about 15 high between two trees). These panniers are often horse-shaped and, therefore, ride well.

Soft Panniers

Soft panniers are lighter weight and flexible and can, therefore, be useful for the odd shaped loads you might have on your horse pack trip. To protect fragile items from bumps, you can add a pannier insert, like the Ralide-West PolyPac Insert, to many types of soft panniers. Pannier inserts also provide a stable platform for using a top pack.

Soft panniers are available in several styles and materials:

  • Probably the most classic soft pannier is one made from canvas and leather. These panniers look great going down the trail, but the leather on them requires more care and makes them non-machine washable. If the pack bag has leather ends, it may have more stability and offer more protection than one without, but once again, a pannier insert is the best way to get structure and protection for your contents.
  • Canvas Panniers also offer you a traditional look for an economical price. They also have the added benefit of being machine washable. These soft saddle packs are also generally sized for use with the PolyPro Pannier Inserts to give them stability and protect your contents.
  • Oversized panniers. We had many requests for a pannier that could carry a big cooler, so we designed the TrailMax Oversized Canvas and Vinyl Panniers. These soft pack panniers are canvas on the outside and vinyl on the inside. These panniers are perfect for coolers up to about 70-quarts or your large duffel loads like camp furniture, tents, sleeping bags and sleeping pads. Because of the vinyl lining and soft shape, they also make terrific meat bags and are completely machine washable. These panniers offer a lot of room, so be careful not to overload them. And realize that you will be wider than normal going down the trail.
  • Soft panniers may also be available in Cordura-type nylon, like in our Pack-A-Saddle Saddle Panniers. Cordura is lightweight, durable, economical and easy to care for. The Pack-A-Saddle is a complete pack system that includes panniers, pannier inserts and top pack. It is also convertible so that you can use it on your pack saddle or convert it to use on your riding saddle. When using it on your riding saddle, like all saddle panniers, you can also roll them up and tie them on behind your saddle so you can ride in and walk a load out.
  • Iron Cloth Pack Bags, or Utah-Style Pack Bags as they are sometimes called, are great for packing meat out. They are made from ballistic material, a type of heavy-duty woven fabric that is breathable and washable. Their unique shape (tall and wide, but not very deep) and design (no lid) makes them well suited for this type of load but not many other pack loads.

Which panniers do I use?

When I go on a pack trip, I typically pack 2-3 mules. I will pack 1-2 mules with HorsePac panniers or ProPac panniers with my kitchen gear and food. I then use top packs for my duffel type gear. The other pack mule is packed with a mantied load because manties are flexible for large, odd-shaped items and are very handy to have around camp. When I hunt, I use a set of the Oversized Canvas and Vinyl panniers. They are perfect for packing out elk quarters.

So to choose pack panniers, I suggest that you assess the gear you want to pack in, your animals, the terrain you will be packing in and through, etc. Then, based on the pros and cons from above, choose the panniers that best fit your needs and will make your next horse pack trip the most enjoyable.

A Spiritual View of Autism – Part II

There are often questions concerning the cause of an emotional or physical condition that creates obvious and often extensive limitations within a human life. And yet what is witnessed from the outside is often different than what is perceived from the inside for the one experiencing this limitation, and this is especially so when one considers things from the soul level of experience.

From this level, it may be seen that while the conscious self may experience deficits in perceiving things the way others do, or in sustaining attention, or in relating to others in ordinary ways, there are always benefits to the larger self that may go unnamed – benefits such as the person’s relationship to life itself, to the sun shining or to the brightness of the day, and to the heart qualities that emanate both from within the self and from within others.

These benefits which often go unnamed are not incidental to the condition which creates external limitation. They are part of that condition, chosen by the soul before incarnating into a body in order that certain qualities of attention and perception will be emphasized during a particular lifetime.

The quality of perception of one who is deemed to be ‘autistic’ is not uniform, for individuals vary greatly along a continuum in terms of how they manifest and display certain characteristics relating to this. Nevertheless, the sensitivity and even over-sensitivity to stimuli that is characteristic of many autistic persons has, as it converse side, the ability to feel deeply and to know things that others with more ordinary sensitivities might not be aware of. In this way, what appears as a problem of attention deficit in ordinary situations is, at the same time, a spiritual expansion on the level of knowing and sensing.

One cannot generalize about the spiritual learning that takes place within the context of those who fall into any diagnostic label, for that label pertains solely to the body and its functions as measured by science’s capabilities at a particular point in time, and to the mental characteristics as evaluated by those who study mental functioning at a particular point in time. No such measurements can be taken of spiritual functioning, for this is beyond science’s ability to measure, housing causal factors that emanate from higher planes that do not lend themselves to physical measurement or observation.

Yet the spiritual qualities that are chosen by the soul who manifests autism are nevertheless very real, for they are part of the purpose for embodiment, and they form the heart and center of what that lifetime of experience is about, even in the presence of disturbances and limitations that seem to others to form the heart and center of what that lifetime is about. Such a path of limitation, in fact, can be chosen by souls who are well-advanced in their spiritual learning and in their desire to further their own spiritual progression, knowing, in advance, prior to taking birth, that this learning will be fostered by what appears on the physical plane to be great limitation.

One who is a partner, friend, parent, or child of one who is autistic, then, need never feel sorry for the condition that has been chosen in this way, even though the human limitations generated are very real, and even though the trade-off in spiritual terms seems not fully reallized. For the gains in spirit that are present are often very great, and the one who loses functioning in a particular way, even as a very young child, is gaining something of immeasurable value both to the self in this lifetime and beyond.

Instead, it is important to foster and to nourish the spiritual qualities which are both qualities of the heart’s love and qualities of perception that the one who is autistic manifests – to nourish these and to learn from these, for all who relate to these qualities are meant to be changed by them. Indeed, there is no situation within families or beyond in which the growth in spiritual perception or awareness in one is not meant to have a profound and healing effect on the consciousness of others.

It is with this in mind that society itself needs to take a new look at what appear to be chronic conditions of limitation, both mental, emotional, and physical, and needs to seek through the engagement of intuition and through alignment with one’s own larger self, what the particular gifts of a particular limitation might be. For it is these gifts that have been chosen by the individual soul to bring to the world, and it is these gifts that will flourish more as they are recognized by others.

Hair Styles

Just like shoes, bags, accessories, and the clothes you wear, hair styles have evolved a lot. Nowadays, there are thousands of new hair styles available, and people want to try these hair styles. Wanting a new hair style every month is not fickle; it’s just evidence of being multidimensional.

How you style your hair could say a lot about your sense of fashion and personality as well. But before you engage in hair styling, it would be better if you do your research first. You should know that it is very important for hair to be healthy, shiny, and styled in a flattering and easy-to-manage way. Many fashion experts suggest that hair styles be chosen according to the shape of the face, as the idea is to make the face resemble the perfect oval as closely as possible. Read on and learn some hairstyle tips.

Choosing a hair style depends on a lot of factors. An important factor to consider is the shape of your face. If you don’t have enough time to style your hair, a short haircut may be best for you. There are also hair colors that would alter the original color of your hair, from subtle to striking. Whatever you decide on, just make sure that you can have fun with it. That’s the important thing.

Once a hairstyle is chosen, it must be maintained by regular washing, setting, and usually, cutting. Some people care for their hair principally at home, going to a hairdresser only for a cut or a shampoo and for an out of the ordinary occasion. Many women go to hair salons every seven days, while still others may see a hairdresser every day for a combing.

Overcoming Incorrect Choice of Medium in Organizations

A wrong medium or an inappropriate medium chosen for communicating a message will act as a barrier to communication. On a shop floor, you cannot use a long written memo of instructions whereas your information on a new product in the market could be only through an effective and attractive advertisement.

Complementing one medium of communication with another appropriately can help overcome communication barrier caused by the medium chosen. An oral reminder in person or over the telephone followed up with a written letter can easily produce the desired response or expected reaction.

Furthermore, through the wrong choice of communication media, For example, two people are interacting, and suddenly one starts to use jargons, this will create a barrier to the receiver of the message because he/she might not know the meaning of those words. The same goes with texting on the phone or sending an email, people always use abbreviations, and this always lead to miscommunication.

Most of us desire to communicate effectively, but do not have a keen appreciation of the communication barriers to be faced. Because of these barriers, there is ample opportunity for something to go wrong in any communication. Competent managers develop an awareness of the barriers and learn to cope with them.

How effectively does it happen as a manager, communicate with your superiors, subordinates, and peers? Do you recognize the barriers to effective communication? Have you learned to cope with them? In the discussion that follows, the principal barriers to communicating effectively in today’s working environment are identified, and proven techniques for coping with them are considered,

The principal barriers to effective communication are: noise, poor feedback, selection of inappropriate media, a wrong mental attitude, insufficient or lack of attention to work selection, delay in message transmittal, physical separation of the sender and receiver, and lack of empathy or a good relationship between the sender and receiver.

FACTORS THAT DETERMINE OVERCOMING INCORRECT CHOICE OF MEDIUM.

1. AGE: Many companies decide channel split by looking at customer demographics, particularly age. Lots of research in terms of using social media and real-time messaging such as web chat and text. And there’s a belief in many circles that the older Baby Boomer generation has a stereotyped preference for talking on the phone compared to newer digital channels. While those in the middle – Generation X – are happy using the phone and email but perhaps still not totally comfortable with real-time messaging. This is a definite factor in choice, but not the only one.

2. CONTEXT: In an emergency where we need a fast answer, we pick up the phone, irrespective of our demographic group. However, if you are then told you’ll be on hold for 15 minutes and chat is available, you may hang up and switch to this channel. In contrast, for less time-critical interactions sending an email provides the security, therefore companies need to look at why consumers are contacting them, particularly how urgent their query is, when balancing resources between channels.

3. PERSONALITY: Another perspective is to examine how the personality types of customers might drive their preferences for customer service channels. Extroverts, with confident and outgoing personalities, will be happier getting on the phone and might even enjoy some chitchat and putting their point across to a contact center agent. In contrast those with a reserved and introverted personality might prefer non-verbal/real-time channels such as email contact for customer service. This means they don’t need to talk to someone and they can avoid the need to think on their feet when communicating with an agent on the phone. Email gives them plenty of time to consider and get across what they want to say. And they can avoid being put on the spot with difficult questions while on the phone or in a real-time dialogue on text or web chat.

4. TYPE OF BUSINESS: Obviously it can be difficult to analyze your customer base by personality without asking intrusive questions. However if you look at the type of business you are, it is possible to build a picture of the sort of customers you’ll attract. A youth fashion retailer is obviously going to attract a different demographic than a provider of holidays to the over 50s. Understand your customers and use this information to assist in planning your multi-channel strategy. Run focus groups and research to help form this picture.
