Panasonic EP 1285 Massage Chair Review

Panasonic has been in the massage chair market for over 35 years. They have developed a variety of different massage recliners at many price points. One of their midrange models is the EP-1285 massage chair. This is a contemporary leather massage lounger that comes with the Swede Atsu urban set of features. Here are some of the highlights of the Panasonic EP 1285 massage chair.

This recliner comes with an air ottoman system. This air system features 12 airbags that are designed for helping the circulation of the lower body. These airbags are specifically contoured to help promote better blood circulation.

There are nine basic massage modes to select from. There are four automatic programs and three pre-programs for specific parts of the neck, back and shoulders. This gives you quite a variety of massage treatments to choose from.

This recliner sports the Swede Atsu urban massaging system. This system accurately simulates the stroking of the palm of the hand, pressing with the heel of the hand, kneading with the thumbs and pressure with the thumbs.

Some of the massages contained in this recliner are patterned after chiropractic treatments. There is a new massaging technique called chiropractic. This massage technique is used for relaxing the muscles while promoting good posture by helping to eliminate fatigued muscles.

The remote control is fairly simple to use. There are automatic programs which work off the touch of a single button. You can open the remote control to access the manual controls as well.

One nice feature included in the EP 1285 massage chair is the leg stretch. The leg stretch is great for relieving stiffness in your lower back, hips and thighs. This system works in conjunction with the air system holding your ankles while the leg rest will stretch out your lower body.

You get a variety of different massage actions with this recliner. There are massaging actions such as kneading, Swedish, soft shiatsu, full roll, compression, Hawaiian, tapping and regional roll. This gives you a good selection of different massages to meet a variety of needs.

This recliner also comes with a motorized recline. You can adjust the position of the chair back with the remote control. This makes it very convenient to find the right angle to receive your massage treatment.

This recliner also comes with an auto shutoff for the automatic programs. The massage program lasts about 15 minutes. It will automatically shut off and it will return the chair to its full upright position when complete.

The leg Ottoman gives you two different massaging features. You can use the leg stretch. Or you can use the leg air massage. Adjust the intensity of the air system to your level of comfort.

The leg Ottoman is not motorized and works by using a lever. A piston will raise the leg rest up when the lever it is activated. To lower the leg rest, you must push down with your legs to lower it.

There is a lot of variety of techniques in this recliner. This recliner is rather soft and subtle with the massage treatments. Although it can make a number of movements, sometimes it seems to lacking in good pressure. This can be problematic for those who wish deeper massage treatments.

Overall, the Panasonic EP-1285 massage chair has some nice features. It also comes with full grain leather upholstery. The air massage system is a great feature, but the back massage is a little weaker than other models in this category. If you are looking for a solid massage chair in a midrange level then check out the Panasonic EP 1285 massage chair.

A Review Of The iJoy 130 Massage Chair

The iJoy 130 massager is a popular chair manufactured by Interactive Health and features the company’s patented Human Touch Technology (HTT). iJoy massage chairs have been designed to be trendy in appearance, deliver a realistic massage and offer value for money. But, is the 130 chair trendy or tacky, does it give a massage indistinguishable from the real thing and is it the best massage chair for its price? I’m not so sure.

The 100 series of massage chairs from iJoy retail from between around $600 and $750. The 130 model retails for around $750. And, like the other models, the design emphasis is very much on a young and trendy theme. First off, I think the designs are awful. To me, they look as though a children’s balloon artist had been commissioned to design them. I’m sure a lot of people like the overall styling of the chairs but I wouldn’t put one in a room where it would be seen by anyone else.

But, it isn’t just the style of the chairs that fails to please anesthetically. The colors are hideous. There’s scarlet red, purple and the most unbelievable lime green on offer. There are only two colors that please; black and cashew.

There is one final problem with the design of these chairs and that’s the choice of upholstery. All the chairs are covered in faux suede. This looks fine at first but this type of fabric is very hard to wipe clean. The company should have used synthetic leather like every other manufacturer.

Another gripe I have is that the control panel is built-in on one of the armrests. The problem is; that’s where my arm rests. I don’t like having the panel under my lower arm; I’m afraid I’ll press something by mistake. The control panel can be removed but that then leave a square hole in the arm which just annoys me.

Something I do like about the chair is that it’s quite low to the ground. Most other robotic massage chairs are quite high off the ground and I always feel as though I have to climb into one rather than sit down in it.

But that good point brings me to a major disappointment with the chair. It’s low because there’s no foot massager. If you won’t one you have to order a stand alone iJoy ottoman that has a built-in massager. But, the ottoman isn’t cheap and considerable adds to the overall cost – should you want a foot massager.

However, the iJoy 130 robotic massage chair does come good with its massage functions. There are four modes in total; rolling, kneading, compression and percussion. There are 4 range options to use in conjunction with the massage options, there are; full, upper, lower and manual position. You can also manually adjust the back rollers to whatever height gives you the best massage.

Does it give a good massage? Well, yes it does. However, the iJoy Human Touch Technology doesn’t feel at all like the real thing, but it is good never the less. The massage is also a little on the noisy side, which kind of takes away from the ‘soothing’ and ‘relaxing’ experience you’re supposed to feel. I found listening to music helped.

In fairness, the iJoy 130 massage chair does deliver on its promise of giving a good massage. If you ignore its design and use earphones, using this robotic massage chair can be almost an enjoyable experience.

Quality Furniture: Chair Back and Chair Seat Upholstery

When buying high quality furniture for your living room, you should make sure that your chair back and chair seat upholstery are of a high standard and not just composed of a foam slab. You would be surprised at how much expensive so-called ‘fine furniture’ is upholstered with foam and faux leather (i.e. plastic!).

This standard of upholstery will not last long, and will soon become uncomfortable. The best way to exemplify how a sofa and chair should be upholstered is done by means of following the example of one well-known upholstered furniture manufacturer – Sherrill Furniture.

Sherrill’s motto is ‘From our hands to your home’, and they stand by that because Sherrill hand-makes its own furniture. Upholstery is done by hand, following traditional techniques as closely as possible. The company manufactures all kinds of chairs and sofas, including sectionals. What we shall be looking at here is how Sherrill Furniture upholsters the bare frames once these have been crafted.

The chair is used an example, though sofas are treated exactly the same:

1. Webbing

The seats are first webbed, using individual lengths of webbing stretched using a stretching tool, and then tacked from side to side with just a small space between them, and then from back to front, these lengths being interwoven with the lateral webbing. It can be done either way, tacking the front to back webs first – the important factor is they are interwoven to offer a high-strength tensile base for the springs.

Backs are not webbed, only sprung. Many years ago the back would also have been webbed then sprung with small springs, or a box spring construction used.

2. Springing

The length and hardness of the coil springs are selected according to the requirement. This takes experience and knowledge according to the depth of the frame and the hardness required. Each spring is laid on top of the webbing, and secured by means of clinch fasteners.

Each spring is then hand tied to its neighbors in eight directions with polyester cord, the cords from side springs being securely tacked down to the bottom rails of the frame. The whole spring layer is now a solid framework. The springs are then covered with a layer of polypropylene fabric to provide a base for the succeeding layers.

The back is sprung using lengths of sinuous wire spring running top to bottom, with coated wire attached horizontally to them to prevent turning and keep them correctly oriented. This spring arrangement is also covered with polypropylene fabric.

3. Stuffing

The seat, back and arms where relevant are generally stuffed in a similar way. The stuffing offers a soft base for the final fabric coverings. Common fillings are polyurethane foam, polyester batting and cotton, and while horse hair was used in the old days, synthetics have now by and large taken over. A final layer of cotton or polypropylene fabric is then stretched over the smoothed last layer of filling to provide a smooth base for the final covering.

4. Fabric Covering

Whether leather or a fabric covering has been chosen, the final step in upholstering high quality furniture is to apply that final covering. A very important aspect of this is talking care to match the patterns, and make sure that the pattern flow is maintained between separate pieces of fabric. Thus, the pattern on the seat should flow correctly in line with that on the back.

Sherrill cuts its fabrics by hand so that the craftspeople have full control over this. The different sewing tasks are each carried out by a specialist in that task, using 7 stitches/inch to ensure durability and a long life.

5. Cushions

Many sofas and chairs use cushions as the seating surface rather than the upholstered base itself. High quality furniture requires high quality cushions, and Sherrill commonly uses a high-density reinforced urethane foam core, then covers that all round with a sewn ticking containing a two ounce polyester fiber. Other cushion fillings are available, including comfort-down, spring-down and a high resiliency urethane foam core with a 2.33 ounce fiber casing.

6. Nail Finishings

Many of the Sherrill Furniture products are decorated with old-style antique round-headed nails. These were originally used by early upholsters to cover the heads of the ugly metal tacks use to secure the upholstery. This started before sewing machines were invented and all sewing was by hand – it was generally quicker to fix all the coverings with flat-headed tacks.

These large domed nails were then hammered over the tacks, covering the heads, and producing an attractive finish. Sherrill offer you a choice between 10 different heads in a variety of sizes and spacings. The standard spacing is head to head forming a continuous row of domed nails.

That is fundamentally how high quality furniture chair backs and chair seats are upholstered from the frame out. Although Sherrill Furniture was taken as an example, many other American furniture manufacturers do it in a similar way.

My Experience of Using the OSIM ISymphony Massage Chair

My wife dragged me along to an ideal home show – I don’t want to sound chauvinistic but I can’t stand window shopping for wallpaper and garden chairs – however, I’m glad I went as I got to try out the iSymphony massage chair from a company called OSIM. I’ve sat in other robotic massage chairs some years ago and never liked them but this chair really did make me want to buy one.

The chair itself looked like something out of Star Trek, with its metal foot rails and the most complicated looking control I’ve ever seen. However, from the moment I sat in it I began to relax, it was so comfortable. But I hadn’t seen anything yet.

The kindly sales lady operated the chair for me and briefly explained some of its key points. Anyhow, before I knew what was happening, the chair first locked my lower legs in its calf massager. It then began to scan my back using, I was told, infrared probes. During this phase the chair automatically moves the internal massage rollers to perfectly fit the contours of your spine – quite incredible.

It then began the massage. The massage I received was one of the 5 Healthcare programs – I can’t remember which one. The massage was wonderful. No, I’ve never been to a real-life, professional massager but the company claims that the iSymphony is a genuine shiatsu massage chair. The lady explained to me what Shiatsu was and, although I’m certainly no expert, it did feel as though fingers, thumbs and palms were being used on my back.

But the best was yet to come. You see the iSymphony gets its name because it plays music during the massage. However, it just doesn’t play the music; the music actually determines the sort of massage you get. If you choose to play rock music you get a very aggressive and intense massage whereas slow classical music will give you a much more gentle massage. It’s incredible; the massage synchronizes with the music and it’s all automatic.

Although not at the show, the sales lady told me that there’s an audio visual model called the iSymphony AV. I’m not sure I’d want this version as I quite like to close my eyes when having a gentle massage.

Also on the stand was the iDesire chair. Apparently this is one of the world’s best. It comes with foot and arm massagers and a whole heap of massage programs, air bags, rollers and so on. I didn’t try it out though; I thought it looked a little too scary for me. And besides, it didn’t come with the music therapy system.

Technology really has moved on since I last tried a robotic massage chair. I was never a fan of them but after trying the OSIM ISymphony chair I’ve become a huge fan. I could well get used to having a daily massage while listening to some Beethoven. Now, if only I could persuade my wife to spend $3,500 on one.

What Makes Valuable Lifeguard Chair Cushions?

It is a lifeguard’s duty to be on the watch out and thereby prevent watery disasters. This means long standing hours which can get tiring at the end of the day. Lifeguard chairs and stands allow lifeguards to sit down for a while without compromising on their duty. They offer comfort during working hours.

These chairs are designed in different sizes to fit different settings. The smaller sizes are ideal for small sized pools while the higher ones are best suited for busy large pools and beach fronts. They ensure that the guards have a bird’s eye view of the happenings around.

Lifeguard chair cushions have been designed to make chairs and seating stands more comfortable. The cushions make comfortable seats as well as back rests and hence the guards can stay as comfortable as they ought to be to ensure they perform their duty efficiently. The choice of cushion that you make can determine the comfort levels that you enjoy as well as the length of time that you can use them for. Here’s how we define good quality cushions for lifeguard chairs.

The Material

It is a very important aspect which can determine just how good your chair cushions are. Remember that the chairs and stands are exposed to different environmental elements such as the sun, wind and rain. Therefore, they might wear out sooner than otherwise. When considering the fabric, be sure to consider how easy it is for it to crack, tear and peel. It is of importance to ensure that the cushion fabric is high in quality if at all you are to enjoy your cushions for a long period of time.

The Resistance Levels –

The lifeguard chairs are always around water bodies and this means that they might be perpetually wet. When looking for the best cushions, consider how resistant they are to water and mold. Some fabrics are more prone to accumulating mold, but fortunately there are some that are completely resistant to water and mold making them an ideal choice for a water setting.

The Cushion Filling –

Another aspect that will guide you in choosing the best cushions is the filling. High density foam is usually the best especially for the outdoors. The foam retains shape and offers comfort as well as durability. A cushion bound to serve your needs for the longest time should be the best.

Ease Of Cleaning –

The lifeguard chair cushions are used on a daily basis and therefore will accumulate dirt, dust and stains easily. Consider how easy it will be to clean the cushions. A material that requires simple wiping might be the best option for you. Always look at the care instructions to determine how easy it will be for you to care for your cushions.

The Craftsmanship –

Also important to consider so that you find the most suitable cushions for your chair is the craftsmanship. Cushions that have reinforced seams and include piping make the best for a lifeguard chair. This is because they offer the needed protection against wear and tear especially as a result of weather conditions.

You feel that you are part of it all and you can take it all while relaxing on your chair. It is a feeling that no multi star luxury hotel can provide.

The cost of these chairs depends on the quality of the substance used for its manufacture. The commonly used materials are plastic and wood. Obviously, plastic chairs will be more cheaper than their wooden counterparts. Also, the type of wood that is used for the construction will decide the cost of the chair. Some chairs are manufactured using metals. Wooden and metal chairs are seemingly more comfortable than plastic chairs. If you are planning to use it near a pool, plastic would be the best option. Therefore, before choosing your outdoor lounge chairs, you should decide how these chairs will be used.

This is certainly a massage chair recliner that deserves your attention if you are looking for a solid mid range model.
