Jewelry Boxes: A Deeper Meaning

What is in a jewelry box? Is it just jewelry items such as necklaces, earrings, rings and other types of miscellaneous jewelry? If the answer to the question was yes, then there is a small issue. It does not just hold a person’s jewelry collection, but it embodies it and is an extension of you and the choices you have made up to this point. Let’s dig a little deeper into this situation.

As previously stated, a jewelry box says a lot a person and the choices they have made in their life. While on the surface it may not seem as if there is much to read into, below lies lots of meaning and hidden messages. A good example would be a diamond necklace in it. Think about how you got that diamond necklace. Was it from your husband, friend or did you purchase it yourself? If it was from someone, what was the occasion? Was it in celebration of something? Could it have been a necklace given as an apology? These questions may not have simple answers and you may not like the feelings that are stirred up when thinking about things like this. In order to read deeper as to what is in your jewelry case, you need to answer these questions, as the jewelry inside of it is really a nice snapshot into the past.

Now that you have answered questions about a necklace in your jewelry box, now it is time to move on to something much more common and important, the rings in a jewelry box. Most jewelry boxes come with ring rolls, allowing for storage and many types of rings. While these rings may be worn as fashionable items daily, they too possess deeper meaning. Think about the engagement ring in the jewelry box. Think about how you felt the first time your now husband or fiancé, got down on one knee and opened a small jewelry case containing something symbolizing the love that you share for one another. Look at the wedding band, symbolizing the strength and bond you made on your wedding day.

These are just a few ways to really take a look back at your life and reflect on the choices you have made throughout your life. While it may seem silly at first to look into a jewelry box for your past and determine what kind of person you are, the answers to these question are in there, you just have to look hard enough.

All About Code Coverage – A White Box Testing Technique

Let us firstly try to understand as to what is Code coverage.

It is a sort of metric meant for the measurement of the testing effort applied to the software application.

It is aimed at inspecting the code directly and is therefore a form of white box testing.

How do we capture the metrics of code coverage?

The process involves Instrumentation of the program and execution of the tests. This way we can identify the code which had been executed & which had been left out. We can see that unit Testing & code coverage are complementary to each other. Unit testing confirms the compliance of program performance with respect to the requirements, whereas code coverage reveals the areas left out of the testing.

The process of development of software is aimed to have coverage measurement by way of defining the number of branches or statements covered under the test. Even after having complete branch coverage or the statement coverage, there is no surety of absence of some key bugs in the code. Hence 100% branch coverage or the statement coverage remain quite illusive & does not provide any surety of perfection to both developers and the managers

Now the key point of discussion remains that having complete coverage remains inadequate. Reason being branch coverage as well as statement coverage do not provide any confirmation of execution of the logic of the code. Both branch coverage and statement coverage are helpful in identifying major problems in portion of the code left out of execution.

However Path coverage technique is comparatively much more rugged & helps us in revealing the defects during the early stages. Before we go deeper into path coverage, let us analyze some of the drawbacks of branch coverage and statement coverage techniques.

Statement Coverage:

Major benefit of statement coverage is that it is greatly able to isolate the portion of code, which could not be executed. Statement coverage criteria call for having adequate number of test cases for the program to ensure execution of every statement at least once. In spite of achieving 100% statement coverage, there is every likelihood of having many undetected bugs.

Thus s coverage report indicating 100% statement coverage will mislead the manager to feel happy with a false temptation of terminating further testing which can lead to release a defective code into mass production. Thus we can not view 100% statement coverage sufficient to build a reasonable amount of confidence on the perfect behavior of the application.

Since 100% statement coverage tends to become expensive, the developers chose a better testing technique called branch coverage.

Branch Coverage or Decision Coverage:

Branch coverage is more impressive since it tends to go deeper into the code as compared to the statement coverage technique. Branch coverage is a metric for measurement of outcomes of decisions subjected to testing. Branch coverage criteria call for having adequate number of test cases for every program to ensure execution of every decision or branch at least once. In majority of the products branch coverage is viewed as the bare minimum coverage. Thus this is better than statement coverage, still it is not adequate for applications needing higher integrity.

It is easy to determine as to how many branches a method shall have. Simple method of working out the decision outcomes, a method can have, is counting the quantity of branches expected to be covered along with addition of one more entry branch in it.

It has been seen that even 100% attainment of statement coverage as well as branch coverage is not sufficient. Moreover for complex methods, it is practically not feasible to perform testing of each & every path. This calls for a need for a better alternative of testing i.e basis path coverage.

Basis Path Coverage:

A path is nothing but the way execution proceeds across a method right from its beginning to its end. Paths, which are Independent, are known as basis sets as well. In other words, basis set is the smallest group of paths grouped together to form all possible combinations of paths across the method.

Path coverage criteria call for having adequate number of test cases for every feasible path, basis paths to ensure execution of every path at least once in the program segment.

If there are say N number of decisions in a method, then it could have 2^N number of paths. However in case of a method having loop, the number of paths can become infinite. Due to extremely large number of paths in the application, path coverage also tend to become difficult. To reduce the number of paths for testing, we can take the help of the metric known as Cyclomatic Complexity. The question as to how much path coverage is needed is answered depending upon the complexity or the risk factor involved in the application under test.

Basis path coverage is similar to branch coverage in a way that it ensures testing / execution of every decision outcome. Still there is a point of difference compared to branch coverage in a way that every decision outcome is tested independent of each other. It involves flipping of the decision executed just before it, while leaving remaining executed branches intact. Since basis path coverage takes care of all statements as well as branches across a method, this is an effective substitute of branch coverage as well as statement coverage. This is the reason of basis path coverage being viewed as much more robust as compared to the branch coverage.

How to Create Data for Testing:

In simple examples it may be is easy to achieve full basis path coverage, whereas in real world scenarios full testing of basis paths becomes extremely challenging, may be even impossible. One of the reasons of this is, the necessity of having test data, which should be able to execute a particular path by testing the interaction between various decisions across a method. It is not a simple process to introduce some data which could further lead to execution of a particular path.

However following best coding practices can be helpful for simplifying the process of testing.

1) Keep a simple code.

2) Try not to use methods having Cyclomatic complexity more than ten.

3) Do not have more basis paths in number.

4) Have less number of decisions for every path.

5) Do not have duplicating decisions.

6) Try not to have data dependency

Conclusion:

Statement coverage as well as branch coverage criteria though being simple for execution but have a drawback that some of the major defects tend to remain undetected, due to which project managers, developers and testers are liable to draw erratic conclusions of perfection, while the fact might be something else.

Whereas basis path coverage is a more rugged approach which is able to identify such defects which otherwise could have gone unnoticed.

Photography Project Ideas – Get Out of Your Box

As photographers, we all need to get out of our comfort zone and experiment with new subject matter, in order to freshen our approach, hone our skills, and enhance the creativity in our everyday photography.

Each of us has a favourite “something” that we love to photograph. For me, it’s flowers. With macro lens in hand, I can lose myself for hours deep in the heart of any flower. I enjoy exploring the rich colours, textures, and abstract shapes found among the petals. My other passion is to explore the farmland near my home. My favourite time to shoot is early morning, and at the right time of year, this comes with the added bonus of mist.

Since I love to shoot these two subjects so much, it’s tempting to shoot them over and over again, to the exclusion of all others. I think that’s a mistake. It’s imperative that, as photographers, we push our boundaries all the time. We must take on photography project ideas that push us outside our own boxes. For each of us, the subject that stretches us will be different. For me, it’s people. For you, it might be landscapes.

What happens when we explore outside our comfort zone is a kind of magic. Because we are experimenting with new material, we are open to seeing in new ways. The new techniques that we develop and learn during our creative photography sessions transfer to our everyday photography. We benefit from a cross-pollination of ideas and techniques that improves our photography, and we develop as artists.

I’d like to offer you a few photography project ideas that might get you thinking creatively. The best project to choose, ironically, is the one that sounds the least appealing. That’s an indication that it’s the furthest from your comfort zone, and the one from which you will likely derive the most benefit.

If you usually shoot still objects, as I do, then try something that moves. A couple of summers ago, a friend invited me to shoot at a rodeo. That’s as far from “still” as you can get! Do you know what? I had a fantastic time, and got some great shots. It also opened my mind to whole new style of shooting, where I had to react quickly to my surroundings. Other ideas for shooting motion include photographing sports events like a marathon, or a bicycle, car or horse race, a hockey game, or a ballet recital.

If you usually shoot people, then try some still life or landscapes. You will find this a very different exercise. When your subject is stationary, you have more time to frame your subject carefully. Slowing down this thought process can help you train your eye so that you can make a better composition when you are under pressure.

If you usually photograph landscapes, try going to the opposite extreme and shooting close up. You will find that the principles of composition are the same; you are still working with the same building blocks of colour, texture, line and shape, only on a much smaller scale. This can really improve your composition, since it removes your ability to “label” objects, and forces you to see only the basic design elements in the image. Your miniature landscapes are more abstract.

I invite you to choose a photography project for yourself that gets you out of your box. Experiment, have fun, and get shooting!

10 Great Ways to Decorate Your Window Boxes For the Holidays

It’s that time of year when houses sparkle with twinkling lights and holiday yard art turns ordinary lawns into magical spectacles. This year when you plan your outdoor holiday decorating, why not enlist your window boxes in novel ways? Here are ten ideas from Hooks and Lattice for including dormant window boxes in this year’s holiday decorating scheme:

  1. Many garden stores sell small Christmas trees of evergreen, rosemary or ivy. Purchase small topiaries or trees to fit your window boxes. Display them in pairs or alone to make a dramatic impact. Insert them into the boxes still in their pots, allowing you to easily remove them after the holidays.

  2. Place large glass ornaments and bulbs in neat piles in your window boxes. Wind strands of miniature white or colored lights through the pile. The balls will reflect the lights adding extra sparkle to your window boxes.
  3. Cover small boxes in bright cellophane wrap and top with pretty bows. Stack the gift boxes in your window boxes for a jolly display. Add miniature lights if desired.

  4. Hang stockings on the outside of each window box. Place evergreens in the box and adorn with miniature lights.

  5. Purchase inexpensive decorative nutcrackers and line them up in the window boxes. Stand them atop small boxes placed inside the window boxes so they appear completely visible from the street.

  6. For a traditional look, fill the boxes with pretty poinsettias and mount a large red or green bow (made from material suitable for outdoors) in the middle of the box’s front panel.

  7. Fill the box with dwarf conifers or small shrubs such as skimmia or euonymous.  Make a garland from old mittens and drape one across the front of each window box.

  8. Fill window boxes with large pinecones. Children can decorate the cones with a roll in white glue and then a pile of shimmery glitter. Add miniature lights for extra sparkle.

  9. Fill window boxes with home made bird treats. Combine suet and peanut butter with cornmeal and roll into balls or form into star or tree shapes. Cover with seeds, nuts and cereal. Create a garland of pretzels, peanuts and cereal tied onto raffia. The birds will eat the good stuff and use the raffia in the spring to build their nests.

  10. For a whimsical touch, glue old toys to a foam cone and create a toy tree. Place one tree in each window box. Wind miniature lights around the trees, if desired.

Press Boxes: Easily Built With Green Construction

You’ve probably seen them at sporting events and at outdoor venues; press boxes serve several very valuable purposes. They typically sit at the top of bleachers ranging from high school athletic fields to large stadiums.

These boxes come in many shapes and sizes, but their main goal is to provide a comfortable place, out of the elements, for those commentating, reporting, and announcing the game or event. Large windows and the location of the box give a wide field of view to accurately report the events below. Although the sporting events are fun places with a high energy atmosphere, inside the press box is a “working environment” where those inside the box are deeply focused on reporting the game or event.

Although press boxes are popular with those reporting the game, they are also used for several other functions. If referees or others on the field are using a microphone and or music it is often controlled from the box. Furthermore, spot lights and other lighting controls may be operated in the box.

Due to the custom nature of stadiums and athletic fields, press boxes often need to be custom built and modular construction is a highly preferred building method. Many have seen the great benefits that come with modular and appreciate that it is a green method of construction. The way modular construction works is by building the walls and other major components in a factory. This leads to a more efficient building process with considerably less waste than traditional construction. After the components are completed, they are shipped to the job site where they are quickly assembled.

Press boxes can also be equipped with a host of accessories and accommodate a wide variety of tasks. HVAC systems and various lighting make for a comfortable atmosphere as well as the ability to incorporate various windows and doors. Furthermore, these boxes can be painted a variety of colors and powder coating is also available for the metal parts of the building. Powder coating is an environmentally friendly option for painting all metal surfaces of the press box. Powder coating is far more durable than liquid paint and is resistant to chipping and fading.

In conclusion, press boxes are used in many athletic fields and stadiums. Due to the varying size and shapes of stadiums, custom boxes are often preferred. Modular construction offers a cost effective solution that is easily customizable.

All About Havanese Litter Box Training

One of the great things about Havanese is that they are small, which make them perfect for cramped, modern lifestyles. However, their small size also means they have a small bladder. They physically cannot “hold it” like a bigger dog or a human can. A small dog like the Havanese needs relief about every four hours. Sadly, you can’t always get home for your lunch break in order to let your dog out. This is where the idea of Havanese litter box training sounds interesting.

Tackling Havanese litter box training is just like every other aspect in Havanese training – you need patience, persistence and even more patience. Think about how long it took for your dog to learn to be housebroken – and now you have to take that concept and bend it. Your Havanese has learned that any elimination indoors is bad. Now, you have to retrain him or her that eliminating in one particular spot indoors (and that spot only) is good.

Havanese litter box training is much easier to do when the Havanese is a puppy than when they are an adult. But if you have an adult who has been taught to go outside whenever nature calls, you must train your Havanese as if he or she were a little puppy. The principle is still the same for both puppies and adult dogs. Get some newspaper and blot up some of your Havanese’s pee or poo on it. Put it in the litter box. Whenever you see your Havanese ask to go out, pick them up and put them in the litter box. Having the smell of excrement or urine already in there in the litter pan lets them know that this is where to go.

You can use a cat litter pan or a pan that’s marketed as a small dog litter pan – which is basically the same thing. You can use cat litter of indoor dog litter. National manufacturers like Purina are now marketing this indoor dog litter for small dogs.

Each dog will learn Havanese litter box training in his or her own individual time. Some will catch on a lot faster than others, just like with other aspects of Havanese training. You can use dog training books specifically for small dogs to help you, but they need to be written in the last two or three years. The idea that ANY dog could be trained to use a litter box is a relatively new concept and is still a subject of debate among small dog owners.

But Havanese training is easier than with some breeds like the entire stubborn terrier breed, as Havanese are clever and love to please. Havanese’ are a very adaptable, easy-going breed that usually does not get too stressed with changes in their lives. Perhaps that is why the breed has been able to thrive again after being nearly wiped out by the Cuban Revolution. Viva la Havanese litter box training!

VR Box Review – Google Cardboard Headset

The Google cardboard headset is sort of a do it yourself kit that has been introduced in the year 2014 by Google. The kit has been sold by Google recently through its play store. It is available for $15 and is easy to get assembled to resemble a headset of virtual reality. It is a simple viewer technically, mainly because it is easy to use and is a standalone device. It requires iOS or an android phone to gather its display and processing power. It is also simple to be used, once the cardboard kit is being delivered, users would have to simply fold it, slot it in the phone so as to explore a variety of cardboard games. This virtual reality or a VR box is available both at Apple’s App store and Google play store and it is now possible to try the basic VR demos free through the Google cardboard app for both iOS and Android. The setting of the cardboard is to be managed through the cardboard app.

VR box overview: The VR box is a solid plastic version of the Google cardboard headset featured with completely adjustable eye lenses.

Lenses: the lenses look just as children’s binoculars and it is possible to adjust their position in the dimensions, depth and width depending on the video or the application. Every application on the Google cardboard features a different field of view and users might have to adjust the headset for different applications.

Comfort: These headsets are to get rammed against one’s face hard and thus are required to be comfortable. The VR box feels so comfortable compared to the original cardboard headset and if needed additional padding could be used in the surrounding area for those with a ridge nose.

Phone holder: The phone holder has padding on both its sides where the phone gets held in place. The holder has holes on both its sides to allow the user to add charger and headphones, so that when the device is in use, there would not be many disturbances to with power and user could get immersed in the VR box much longer. The slider fixes into the headset with a click and it does not slide out on its own. The VR holder has a line marker to help users center the phone and thus offers a high quality to the set with nil clumsiness.

More than playing games, the headset works wonders in watching movies. Users have found it stunning to watch 3D movies with the set, which is much, much better than the cardboard set. The head strap is absolutely comfortable and the padding around the eyes helps to use the set for long hours in watching movies.

Custom Boxes Give Your Packaging a Little Style With Custom Boxes

We are all familiar with that person who refuses to throw away package boxes because it is ‘just too beautiful to throw away.’ They lovingly caress the box gushing about how sleek and lavish it looks.

Well, you want your packaging to evoke a similar emotion. The customer must fall in love with the product before they even open it. There are lots of custom packaging companies that can give that and more. From simple merchandise bags to high-end fabric bags and gourmet creations that exude sophistication and style. Custom boxes ensure your products arrive in style.

While many use the word ‘box’ to describe custom packaging, it is by no means only restricted to a box. There are many options for the typical ‘box.’ Customizing packaging usually involves picking up a shape unique to your brand, adding a design or logo. Some brands even go as far as adding a name for their exclusive clients.

There are three printing methods normally used printing custom packaging

• Flexographic Printing: This works like a really big rubber stamp- a printing plate with your packaging’s design acts a huge ink pad that picks up ink and then stamps it onto your box. It is the cheaper of the two options

• Digital Printing: Digital printing is usually used for smaller sized orders. It is similar to the laser jet printer you use at home. It mixes the inks and then directly applies color and the design onto the custom box

• Litho Label Printing: Derived from lithography, it provides a much cleaner, greater resolution printing. Here the printing happens onto a paper sheet, treated, cut, and then attached to the box with an adhesive.

Custom boxes come in various sizes including but not limited to;

• 5-13/16″ X 5-3/4″ X 1-15/16″ – ideal for jewelry and other small items

• 7″ X 7-1/8″ X 2-1/4″ a great size for pharmaceuticals, pharmaceuticals and packaging for shipping

• 9″ X 6-1/2″ X 2-3/4″ – a very popular size for subscription boxes of all types

• 12-1/4″ X 9-1/4″ X 4″ – our new large capacity lock front, ideal for shipping anything from full size snack foods to pet toys.

Custom boxes are made from different kinds of materials including Eco-friendly and renewable resources; if that sort of thing matters to you. Most suppliers are happy to add trimmings such as crinkle-cut fillers, tissue paper, ribbons, bow and much more to complete the whole look.

Have an uncommon design? Have no fear. There are companies that are always on the lookout for unique designs to add to their ever-growing collection of cutting die and stock mailer inventory. You just have to spend a little more time looking for them.

If you have a cause you care about, there a lot of room on a custom box to highlight that cause. Customers love brands with a conscience. Only add a little message on what you stand for to side or top. It could be a story, poem or paragraph; it doesn’t matter, as long as it passes on your message.

So, go forth; get an impressive custom box to give your product an upper edge.

Coin Bank Plans For a Post Office Box Door

The following instructions provide a construction process for a coin bank using a USPS PO box door manufactured by the Federal Equipment Company in 1966. There are other varieties of doors available that may have different dimensions. The wood used to construct this example is 1/2″ and 1/4″ thick oak and a purple heart coin slot inlay. Variations in construction and materials are easily adopted and some suggestions will be noted throughout the step-by-step instructions that follow.

Step One: Determine Box Dimensions

The inside surface of the door has screw holes, perpendicular to the face, that are used to attach the door to the box body. The position of these holes dictate the dimensions of the door opening. A good approach to determining the top, bottom, and side dimensions of your box is to lay two pieces of 1/2 inch stock, parallel to one another. Place the door, face up with the top and bottom parallel to the wood pieces. Maneuver the wood pieces until they are parallel and fit just outside the screw holes on the inside of the door. Measure the distance between the outside edge of each 1/2 inch wood piece. This measurement is the length of the two sides of the box.

Repeat the process above but place the door top and bottom perpendicular the wood pieces. Measure between the outside edges of the wood pieces again. The result is the length for the top and bottom of your box.

Step Two: Cut Box Frame Pieces

The top, bottom and side dimensions determined above represent the outside height and width of your box. The depth of your box is optional. The depth (distance from front to back) is determined by the width of the stock you choose. The Joint type you choose to join the box frame will determine how you cut the pieces. For a simple miter joint, make your cuts at a 45 degree angle. For box joints or through dovetails, cut at a 90 degree angle. Making box or through dovetail joints is outside the scope of these instructions.

Step Three: Test Fitting, Pilot Holes. Coin Slot and Assembly

After cutting, test fit your box frame. Place the door inside the front face and verify that the door fits properly. The critical test is to determine that the door fits inside and allows for the complete joining of corners. Also verify that the door edges overlap the surface of the front face. A minor bit of play is alright because you can adjust positioning when securing the door screws later. Mark the position of the screw holes on each side piece. Drill pilot holes that will accept #6 X 3/8″ sheet metal screws.

Rout a coin slot into the top box piece. If you choose to include a coin slot inlay, complete that process now. If you use a brass coin slot cover, attach that as your last step. Glue your pieces together and secure with clamps.

Step Four: Cut and Attach Box Back

While an option is to rout a recess in the back of the box, the simplest method is to cut a back piece of 1/4″ stock to the dimensions of the box back. Regardless of the method you choose, secure the box back to the box frame with screws and/or glue.

Step Five: Determine and Record Door Combination

The door combination is revealed by turning the tumbler knob and recording the letter position of each right, left, right turn. observe the inside tumblers on each turn and stop when the red marks align with the top mark. Verify the combination is correct by turning the center knob on the front to open the door. Record the letter combination.

Step Six: Rout, Sand, and Finish

At this point you can optionally rout the box edges with a round over bit. Sand the box body and apply your favorite finish. I have used natural Danish oil with good results. Once your finish is dry, screw on the door and attach a brass coin slot plate if used. Your bank is now complete. A photo series of these instructions and doors are available at Herzercraft.

Finding Wholesale Gift Boxes for the Holidays

The holidays are a time when everyone is busy trying to find the perfect present. Once you find the perfect one, then you will have to find the right box to put it in. This can be a difficult task if you just look around the house. Sometimes stores will offer a box or two for apparel, but what about those misshapen gifts? Purchasing a variety of wholesale gift boxes might be your best move before the Holiday season begins. If you order them now, you should be just in time for wrapping the gifts.

Wholesale gift boxes are a good option for holiday gifts because they are neutral. For kids, you might want to wrap the gifts in some fun wrapping, but there is so much you can do today with a white or Kraft box that you may not even have to use regular wrapping paper. There are some gorgeous ribbons available that can be made into beautiful bows for the tops of any neutral box. Other options to decorate a box for the holidays could be a cute cookie cutter tied with a beautiful ribbon while the box is filled with cut-out sugar cookies. The options are endless.

The great thing about wholesale gift boxes is the variety that you can get at one time. You could probably order a variety pack depending on where you go, but you can also order large quantities of individual types.

If you plan on buying quite a few pieces of jewelry this year, then you might want to purchase several of that style. You should be able to purchase apparel, hat, jewelry, and retail type wholesale gift boxes. In all, you should find everything you need unless a gift is extra large. In that case, you might have to find another box seller.

You will not want to go with the first place you look. You would be wise to shop around a little bit before deciding on one company. Around the holidays you might find that they are more or less expensive. It might depend on how long you wait to buy them.

If you do not like the idea of having a variety of containers, some of which you might never use, you might want to write down all of the gifts that you plan on purchasing. Once you do this, you should be able to choose the ones you need, so that you will not have excess of ones that you will never use. Any extra wholesale gift boxes that you have at the end of the year can be stored in a dry, dark place to avoid yellowing or fading.
