My Golf Putting Tip – Look Backwards!

Here’s the golf putting tip which I found helped me the most – it consistently took shots off my score, and I’ve used it ever since I first came across it.

If a putt is made up of line and length, how much easier would it be if you knew you didn’t have to worry about the length?
It’s hard to be able to judge how far you’ll put the ball on a consistent basis, when you try it green by green, but it *is* possible to train yourself to know how far your backswing is with the putter.

To use this golf putting tip, a great training routine with your putter is to look backwards at how far your backswing is.
Then follow through the same length.
If you do that say 3 inches back and follow through, and note how far the ball goes, you then have a consistent shot.

Then train yourself with a 4 inch back and follow through, and so on.

The result of this will be that for any given putt, you assess how far you need to hit the ball, and you then know how far back to draw and to follow through.

This consistency means you can put much more concentration into your line.
It also means that when the pressure putts come, as they inevitably do, your brain won’t overthink the length.

It’s not a complicated theory, but mightily effective.
When I used it , I found that more puts dropped, and if they didn’t, they were close enough that my 3 puts went down.
Since maybe 40% of the shots for the whole round are on the green, it’s a technique I loved.
I smiled at the logic of it, and smiled at the fact it was a golf putting tip I could practice indoors too!
