1. Choose your Divorce Attorney carefully

The best way to get feedback on an attorney is to get a referral. Ask your friends and colleagues for input on local attorneys. If you don’t have a referral, many family law attorneys offer free consultations. Meet with your prospective lawyer and determine if they are right for you.

2. Don’t be mislead by hourly rate

Divorce Lawyers with lower hourly rates may bill more hours and cost you more than a seasoned attorney with a higher hourly rate. Look for experience and efficiency rather than rate alone.

3. Be organized

If you bring in a suitcase full of documents for your attorney, it is going to take many costly hours for them to go through it all. Only bring the key documents that your attorney needs to review.

4. Be efficient in your communication

The more succinct you are in your phone, e-mail, and attorney client meetings, the more money you are going to save.

5. Don’t let your emotions rule your business sense

It’s totally understandable that personal items have special meaning. You may want to consider if all personal items are worth fighting over. If there is a coffee table that would easy sell for under $100 on Craigslist, you may not want to spend $1000 arguing over it.

6. Follow your Divorce Attorney’s advice

Attorneys advise their clients based on extensive experience and not following their advice may result in unnecessary motions and additional litigation. For example, if there is a restraining order in effect to not sell any household items, it would not be a good idea to sell them on eBay.

7. Provide full disclosure

If you do not provide full disclosure, it could result in costly discovery motions. For example, if your wife knows you have three bank accounts and you only provide one there may be additional actions that may increase the costs of your divorce. The act of not providing full disclosure may also jeopardize your credibility with the judge.

8. Follow court orders

If a court order is in place, take it very seriously. If you are thinking about an action that may be in violation of a court order, don’t take the action until you have consulted with your Attorney.

9. Hire the proper experts through your Divorce Attorney

There are experts that can be hired for valuation purposes. Experts may include investigators, forensic accountants, and psychologists. If you have real reason to believe that your husband is hiding his business income, it may be worth the added cost to hire a forensic accountant. Talk to your attorney to determine if this makes sense for you.

10. Think of your assets from a long term perspective

If the family home is up for negotiation in your divorce, consider the current value (price of the last home sold in your neighborhood minus what you owe) and determine if it’s worth fighting for. If your home has decreased in value and you know you want to live in it for many years, it may be a good time to purchase the house from the spouse as the value will likely increase over time due to current market conditions. If stock options or retirement accounts are being divided, think about their current value compared to their possible future value.

A roll top desk is an increasingly popular piece of furniture that you will find in a lot of homes. The style is a classic and the convenience of the desk cannot be ignored because of its practical uses. In this article we will discuss why we have started seeing roll top desks in so many houses!

A desk with a top that can be rolled down can make a room look tidier! Have you ever entered a room and found that everywhere was clean in the room except for a messy desk? If you are doing work in your home office or are using a desk in any other room the desk will regularly get messy. All of the paper that can build up or text books, or even a computer, can make a desk look untidy and unorganized. A roll top desk will help you to conceal this atrocity. If you are the type that likes your desk messy because it makes it much easier for you to get work done then such a desk is exactly what you need. All that you need to do when you are not working is roll it down and it will all be concealed. A roll top computer desk is also a great idea if you are using a computer or a typewriter for your work. Imagine how nice and tidy everything will look once you hide the mess behind that top. This is a great way to have a messy desk without making the whole room look messy and unorganized. Of course, you can always clean the mess, but I know how hard that may be at times.

A roll top desk can help you keep things private. If you have kids we all know how curious they can be especially when you are doing work at home. Such a desk will ensure that your kids will not get into your work and knock it on the floor or worse spill something on it. If you have some special files and your kids are regularly in the room then a roll top desk can store them away safely. You can add a lock to the desk for added privacy. This will make sure that what is in the desk stays in the desk. And nobody can access it but you, the one who holds the key.

Roll top desks have grown to become a very popular style amongst their counterparts, because of all the advantages that they have. Besides concealing a messy work area, these desks can also be helpful in ensuring that your work will not get ruined by your kids. A roll top desk can be exactly what you need if you do work at home and you feel that your work is too important to be left out in the open.

Most people have seen Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” animated movie. But there are several others which are absolutely excellent – classics. Here they are:

1. My top pick for a mermaid movie is “Splash”. Not only is it funny and the plot wonderful, but there is quite a bit of awesome footage of Daryl Hannah mermaiding in the ocean. We can’t get enough of that! Keep in mind that this is not a children’s movie. It was made in the ’80s, and for the most part it is okay for the family to watch. But there is a little bit of nudity (when the mermaid is walking into New York out of the ocean with nothing but her long hair to cover her) and there is some implication of what she and the Tom Hanks character are doing in the elevator, though nothing is shown. The movie is wonderful, with a great story and awesome mermaid footage and lots of laughs, as well as a great romance.

2. My second top choice is “The Secret of Roan Inish”. This is a safe, quiet movie the entire family can enjoy. It was made in Ireland, and as such is slower and quieter than most American movies. It is about a little Irish girl who moves to live with her grandparents. While there she unwittingly stumbles upon the mystery surrounding the island the family used to live on, called “Roan Inish” (Island of the Seals). As she slowly solves the mystery, she brings healing and unity back to the family. In this movie the mythical creature is a selkie, not a mermaid. The selkie lives in the form of a seal. On occasion she climbs up on a rock and removes her seal skin, revealing a beautiful woman. So this movie is a little bit different, and you will never look at a seal the same way again.

3. My third favorite mermaid movie is “Aquamarine.” This one is geared to the teen crowd. It has nothing unseemly, so the whole family can enjoy it. It’s a delightfully different rendition of the classic Little Mermaid story, with a wonderful surprise ending. The mermaid in this movie is different, more like a regular teen girl. There are several good shots of her in the water. The messages in this movie are high quality, such as loyalty, friendship, personal confidence, selflessness and courage. And it is also very funny.

4. Number four of my top mermaid movies is an old black and white classic called “Mr. Peabody and the Mermaid.” You will have a challenge finding this movie to watch, but VHS versions are available for sale on Amazon.com. All of the underwater footage was filmed in the famous Weeki Wachee Springs in Weeki Wachee, Florida, only a year after this underwater theater opened. Made in 1948, this movie is about a married couple taking a vacation in the Caribbean. The man is almost 50 and is having a mid-life crisis. While on vacation he accidentally fishes up a live mermaid from the sea! Ann Blyth plays the enchanting mermaid and you will love this wonderful film. The only objections a parent might have is the theme of extramarital flirting, and some funny scenes with a guy trying to give up smoking.

5. One that is a little different, and which only recently came out, is a Japanese anime Miyazaki movie called “Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea”, or simply “Ponyo”. In this one the fish-girl is depicted as a goldfish with a human face, which is rather strange. But in an unusual twist, this five-year-old fish-girl has to get the little five-year-old human boy to love her faithfully, or she will turn into sea foam and be no more. It is such a sweet interpretation, these small children learning to love and trust each other in such an innocent way. It is a tale of wonder and courage and should not be missed.

6. My pick for number six is Disney’s “The Little Mermaid”. It was the movie that got Disney back into the popular movie business again in the 1980s. The music and story are a delight. I remember how enchanted I was when it first came out – it is a delightful mermaid movie, fun for the whole family.

7. Number seven for me is the Russian adaptation of “The Little Mermaid.” This 1976 film shows plenty of wonderful mermaid footage under the sea. Back then the swimmers had only small flippers, so they had to ripple their legs in a very quick motion for movement. The underwater scenes are only in the beginning of the movie, but they are marvelous!! (I can’t figure out how those swimmers could be in the water with all those jellyfish!!). You can find this movie to rent at Netflix and it is directed by Vladimir Bychkov. Again, this version of Anderson’s famous story is a little different, almost a completely new story. Be forewarned that there is nudity in one scene, and portrayals of a witch performing magic. Other than those the whole family will enjoy this one.

8. “Barbie Mermaidia” is a little-kid movie, but the plot is good and the scenes are beautiful. I especially enjoyed the unusual design of Barbie’s mermaid tail. In this story the main character has to make great sacrifice, and learns some good lessons. I like this one better than the newest Barbie mermaid movie because of its great message.

9. There was much excitement this year over the new release of “Barbie in a Mermaid Tail.” This one has wonderfully fun surfboarding scenes. The mermaid world of Oceana was a little strange – basically a mimic of our materialistic society. This made it funny but in this setting you lose the mystery and magic of legendary mermaids. This is what I call a “fluff” movie – nothing deep, just fun images and a nice little story.

10. My least favorite mermaid movie is a kid movie called “Roxy Hunter and the Myth of the Mermaid.” It’s about a young small-town journalist named Roxy who gradually discovers her new homeless friend (a beautiful blond) is actually a mermaid. The movie is okay but throughout the entire film there are no underwater scenes or scenes with a mermaid in a tail – none – until after the very end. Then, finally, you see about 10 seconds of the blond mermaid swimming underwater with a gorgeous tail. The story is interesting enough, however, and children will certainly enjoy this movie.

Many years ago, somewhere between the 19th and 20th centuries, businesses often used the roll top desk because of the privacy the provided. They also enjoyed the top that conveniently rolls down and cover the mess of the workday. Today, many home businesses in particular, also enjoy the creativeness and versatility of the roll top desk over the conventional flat top desks.

An inventor from India, way back in 1829 created the original roll top desk. His name is Jacob Alles and he opened his own company manufacturing furniture at an early age. In an effort to sell his furniture he traveled all over America. To have something to do in his off time he did some whittling. From this the prototype of the roll top desk was born. Soon afterward, they were being sold everywhere.

Conventional desks have great drawers for storage and a large working surface but besides this the roll top desk also has many cubicles for organization and the top that is a built-in feature. The roll top portion is supported by several columns of drawers on each side and cubicles that line the back of the desk.

There are also partitions that support the slatted top on the sides of the desk. The roll top portion has slats that fit into grooves along the raised edges. This is why the top can easily go up or down.

A few of the advantages of the roll top desk is not only the top that covers up the day’s mess but the many cubicles and compartments that line the sides of the desk making it easy to keep things in place. There is a knee hole with drawers on either side and these often have locks making the desk a very private place for important documents. When the top is rolled up it completely disappears into the structure of the desk.

Still a popular choice the roll top desks today come in a large variety of shapes, styles and sizes with just as many choices in finishes. There are extremely modern versions that are massive in size as well as desks that are the right size for a child to use.

As an example of choices in the modern roll top desk is the deluxe version made of solid oak. The drawers are a solid maple wood that lines the sides. The style of the desk is made to accommodate a PC will all the accompanying office equipment. There is a pull-out tray for the fax or printer, letter and legal sized drawers for your files, trays for your CDs and an ample surface for work space. The top still rolls up and down but is made with steel ball-bearings in precision quality.

When choosing a desk for your home office you might prefer the vintage design of roll top desk also made in solid oak with solid maple drawers. This is a desk that looks very much like the originals sold in the late 19th century. These pieces are so beautiful they are something that can easily become family heirlooms. The construction, even though closely resembling the original desks, is made with steel ball-bearings crafted with high tech accuracy. The original design still makes this a lovely addition to any office, especially the home office.

Jerry Butler was born in Sunflower, Mississippi in 1939. His family moved to Chicago in 1944. His interest in singing began by singing in church groups and with the Northern Jubilee Gospel Singers. Curtis Mayfield was also a member of that group.

Butler and Mayfield joined an R&B group, The Quails. But, in 1957, he and Mayfield would join another vocal group, The Roosters, with Sam Gooden and brothers, Arthur and Richard Brooks. In 1957, they changed their name to The Impressions and he would have only one major hit with them. Butler left the group in 1958 for a solo career. Mayfield would continue with The Impressions and have a string of hits.

He was dubbed “The Iceman” by Philadelphia disc jockey, Georgie Woods, who saw Butler perform there.

Butler also wrote many songs, including co-writing “I’ve Been Loving You Too Long” with Otis Redding

Jerry Butler would have a successful solo career, scoring thirty-nine hits on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. On Billboard’s R&B charts, he would have three number one hits.

Here’s a look at Jerry Butler’s ten biggest pop hits according to the Billboard Top Pop Singles Charts.

1. Only The Strong Survive – 1969 – Written by Butler and Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, his biggest pop song would go to number one on the R&B charts. Elvis Presley and Billy Paul would do cover versions of this song.

2. Let it Be Me – 1964 – Here, Jerry teams up with soul singer Betty Everett. Previously released by the Everly Brothers in 1960, this song was first recorded as a French song in 1955 as “Je t’appartiens.”

3. He Will Break Your Heart – 1960 – Written by Butler and Curtis Mayfield, Tony Orlando and Dawn took this song to number one in 1975 and changed the title to “He Don’t Love You (Like I Do).”

4. Moon River – 1961 – Although Butler’s version made it to number eleven on the pop charts, this Henry Mancini/Johnny Mercer tune won the Academy Award for Best Original Song as sung by Audrey Hepburn in the 1961 movie “Breakfast At Tiffany’s.” Andy Williams, never released this song as a single, used it as his signature song.

5. For Your Precious Love – 1958 – Butler’s only hit with The Impressions was ranked #335 in Rolling Stone’s Top 500 songs of all times in 2010. He would re-record this song in 1966, but it barely cracked the weekly Top 100 charts.

6. Hey, West Union Man – 1968 – This was Butler’s second number one single on the Billboard’s R&B charts. It reached #16 on the pop charts.

7. Never Give You Up – 1968 – From his “The Iceman Cometh” album, it was covered in 2010 by The Black Keys as “Never Gonna Give You Up.”

8. Make It Easy On Yourself – 1962 – Written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, it was originally recorded by Dionne Warwick, but her label didn’t want to release it. Butler hearing the track, used the same arrangement as Warwick’s and Butler had his first solo hit. In 1965, The Walker Brothers also had a top 20 hit with it.

9. What’s The Use Of Breaking Up – 1969 – From his “Ice On Ice” album, the flip side of this top twenty hit was “Brand New Me” which never cracked the Top 100 charts, but was a huge hit for Dusty Springfield.

10. Ain’t Understanding Mellow – 1971 – Jerry teamed up with artist Brenda Lee Eager for this soulful tune. Eager was the lead vocalist with Butler’s backup singers and recorded several songs together that charted, but none as successful as this one.

Today, Jerry Butler continues to perform while serving as a Cook County Board Commissioner. He won re-election in 2014. He currently lives in Chicago with his wife, Annette, who is one of his backup singers. He has been host on PBS TV music specials featuring many Doo Wop and R&B groups.

In 1991, Jerry Butler was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

With the growing size of the world’s population comes larger woman who wear larger size clothing. Retailers are quite aware of this trend and many brands are cashing in on this ever growing demographic.

More than 50% of women are over a size 14. This is an emerging market for both retailers and the modeling agencies that provide them with talent to showcase their clothing lines.

The days of models being a scant size zero eating their grilled chicken salad in hair and make up may be on the decline as the new era of plus size models emerges.

Aspiring models have often struggled with the specific requirements set by the modeling industry. They often make the mistake of thinking being over a size 8 or 10 would be the death of their modeling career yet plus size models between size 10-20 are in demand.

There is now a growing trend of plus size modeling agencies staking claim to their piece of the plus size model pie.

Here is a list of the top 5 best plus size modeling agencies:

1) MSA Models – I like the energy and professionalism I feel this agency offers. They are also located in the epicenter of modeling which is none other than New York, NY.

2) Dorothy Combs Models – Located in my favorite winter time getaway Miami Florida, you will find Dorothy’s agency which specializes in plus size models. They represent women size 10-16 and are always looking for new talent. They are credited with winning the 2012 Plus Model Agency of the Year award.

3) 12+ UK Model Agency – This high profile modeling agency in Europe specializes in models with curves. Their website clearly reveals the support they have for those looking to break into the plus size modeling industry.

4) BGM Models – Founded in 1995 in Australia, BGM Models is looking for women size 12 and over to represent. With models such as Samantha Morris, Laura wells and Natasha Fowler you are sure to see one of their models gracing the covers and advertisements of many of Australia’s finest magazines and businesses.

5) JAG Models – This new agency has been getting quite a bit of press lately and is one to keep an eye on. Located in New York City this agency was founded by two former Ford Model employees who are sure to keep their momentum going.

It is refreshing to see an industry notorious for catering to those size double zero to 2 finally recognizing the demand for plus size models who better represent the average woman.

Women who have aspired to become a model but have feared rejection based on their weight now have hope.

In the next 1-2 years the list of agencies who represent plus size models will continue to grow and the industry will continue to embrace and accept the curvy women plus size agencies represent.
