Golf Mastery – Secret to Larry Mize’s Sudden Death Victory

Larry Mize won the 1987 Masters tournament in a sudden death playoff against Greg Norman when he hit a 140 foot chip shot that went in the hole. Never underestimate the power of your chipping! Tournaments are won and lost with this shot and players often struggle to understand what they are doing wrong when it comes to such a “seemingly” easy shot.

The Right Club – One of the most important parts of being a good chipper is choosing the right club. This depends on how your ball is lying and how high in the air you want the ball to go before it hits the green. Starting with your 7-iron and working down to your pitching wedge is one way to master this shot. Other golfer’s use their sand wedge in certain situations or simply settle on one club and make adjustments depending on the distance from the green. These differences depend on personal choice but there is one thing that affects all golfers and is very important. This is the error concerning follow through.

Control at Impact – The most common error in chipping comes about when you fail to control the tendency of the club at impact. This means that you start to swing the club downward but you give up right before you hit the ball. Never give up! This is called failing to “follow through” and it plagues many golfers who don’t realize they are doing it. Failing to follow through is a huge mistake. You have to make sure that your hands lead the club through the impact of the shot. If the golf club overtakes your hands and begins travelling ahead of you n its own, anything can happen on impact and it usually won’t be good.

Follow through Secret – In order to insure that you follow through your shot, try to put most of your weight on your left foot when you address the ball. Your hands should also be just a little bit ahead of the ball before you swing. Take your swing and make sure to follow through! You don’t need to “slide” the club under the ball or “scoop” it into the air. Just keep your hands ahead of the ball as you swing and always follow through.

On Mastery – You may not turn into “Larry Mize” overnight but some good practice sessions with these basic tips will likely get you on the road to some good chipping. Following through can be one of the best ways to bring down your score as it will set you up for less putting on the greens and even give you the occasional chip shot into the hole just like Larry Mize!

Why Would a Guy Lose Interest in You All of a Sudden? 7 Reasons Why This Would Happen

There have to be very strong reasons for a guy to lose interest in you all of a sudden. So you have to investigate the possible causes, that have made him lose interest in you and wants you out of his life or wants to leave you.

You have lost that sense of mystery
Have you failed to hold that same enigma for him that he knew of you when he first met you? Or have you lost that sense of mystery that shrouded you earlier when he first met you? You will then see that his interest has begun to wane all of a sudden.

Are you too condescending?
Has he seen that streak of condescendence in you with regard to anything that he says or does? Do you quietly accept whatever he tells you to do and or the way he tells you to do it? Do you never say ‘no’ to anything he says?

How confident are you of yourself
Do you exude that air of confidence about yourself or do you display timidity and lack of confidence about yourself and in the things you do? If he sees that you lack confidence and cannot handle things on your own then he will lose interest in you.

Have you changed from what you were earlier?
Have you over the period changed in your ways and behavior? Are you not the same person that your man used to know when he first knew you? The girl he first knew is no longer the same girl with whom he had fallen in love. That is the reason for his losing interest in you.

Do you constantly remind him of commitments?
Have you begun to remind him of the commitments he once happened to make to you? Possibly he is unable to cope with all of them on time and feels guilty about it, while you continue to give him reminders about them. He naturally would lose interest.

Is he feeling deprived of his space?
Are you hovering around him a bit too much? May be he is feeling suffocated with this attitude of yours where he feels he is not left with space of his own. May be he resents this and has begun to lose interest in you and shows it clearly.

Are you being very authoritative?
Do you always exercise too much authority over him and things around? Do you always take the decisions and see that he abides by them? He never seems to be able to get you to accept his opinion or suggestions. You have contributed to his losing interest in you.

A Sudden Awakening:A Cautionary Tale For Today’s Youth!

It was a hot, humid night on July 11, 2002. I was being chauffeured around Manhattan, New York City, in my two-door, white, Mercedes Benz CL600 by my friend Craig Boogie, when we pulled in front of a busy night club.

“Jamila come with me for a moment.” Craig said zealously as he jumped out of the car and walked around to the passenger door, signaling for me to get out.

“No Craig! I ain’t going to no club tonight.” I responded adamantly, reclining my seat back and covering my slim, caramel toned face with my large, black designer glasses.

Craig proceeded to plead that I come in, but I dismissed him, rolled up my window and turned up the radio. Seeing that is was a hopeless cause, Craig went into the club without me. I assumed he was only going to make a quick stop, but several minutes went by and Craig had still not returned. I called his phone several times, no answer.

Agitated, I got out of the car, locked the doors and angrily proceeded to make my way into the jam-packed night club. As I entered the building, I heard loud familiar voices shout, “SURPRISE, Happy Birthday!”

Hugs and kisses greeted me from my friends who were mostly celebrities and music industry executives. I felt honored and distinguished as they all treated me like a queen that night. I was 25 years old and a multi-millionaire. I had made it to what I perceived was true success. I went from being a small-time girl from the suburbs of Jamaica Queens, New York to being a well-sought out, respected business woman. I lived in a prestigious gated community in Northern, New Jersey. I had a high-end collection of luxury cars and enough diamond jewelry and fur coats to fill up a store. In my mind I was set for life. Unfortunately, my success was shortly lived.

On July 16, 2008, just six years later, I stood in front of Judge Jose Linares at the Newark Federal District Court in New Jersey awaiting to be sentenced on bank fraud charges. My past had suddenly caught up to me. What I perceived as a common business short cut had ruined my life and destroyed my business.

My heart began to race as I waited for the judge to impose his sentence upon me. It had been 5 long years since my federal investigation began. I anxiously wanted to end the 5 year nightmare I had encountered. In a few minutes this long saga will be all over, I thought to my self as I recited Psalms 23 silently underneath my breath.

“I hereby sentence you to 151 months in federal prison and 5 years probation.” Judge Linares, a plump, middle aged Cuban-American (who could pass for White) declared as he banged his wooden gavel.

Inside I instantly became numb. I tried to pull it together to calculate how many years 151 months equated to. “Twelve and a half years, oh that’s crazy!” I said as the bailiff came over to take me into custody.

I was given a few moments to remove my 4 carat diamond ring, my diamond tennis bracelet and matching chain, and my diamond bezel watch. I tucked my expensive jewelry into my oversized Louis Vuitton bag, along with the keys to the brand new Escalade I had recently purchased. I had driven myself to court, definitely not expecting to be sent to federal prison. As I handed my belongings to my lawyer, along with the valet ticket for my car that was parked in the court’s municipal parking lot, his face turned beet red. It was clear he also was caught by surprise and couldn’t believe the judge had sentenced me to over a decade behind bars.

In a matter of moments I made a huge transformation. I was forced to remove my designer clothes and shoes, and I was handed a khaki prison jumpsuit and rundown, blue skip sneakers to change into. This couldn’t be so, I thought to myself. In the blink of an eye, I went from being a free woman to federal prisoner #59253-053. I was indeed living my worst nightmare!

Stripped of all the worldly props I used to hide my insecurities, I stared in the small, rusted mirror in my prison cell. Instantly, I hated the reflection of the image I saw. Filled with pounds of guilt and shame, I was over-burdened and disheartened. When the prison doors shut behind me, I felt like my life was over!

Day in and day out, I wallowed in my negative thoughts, playing out my funeral arrangements in my mind. Confined to a 5 1/2 x 9 prison cell, I had no one to lean on or turn to. I was trapped! Sobbing with anxiety and grief, my life flashed before my eyes. I thought about all the things I had done and all the people I tried my best to please. Even more disappointing, I was abandoned by those I thought were really my friends. The sharp pain of hurt and disappointment repeated continuously, forcing me to realize how baseless the superficial things I chased so passionately after were.

Desperate in despair, I reached for the Bible a women in the next cell had given me. For countless hours on end I read. Each page I finished, the stronger I seemed to get. In the darkest place of my life, through the word of God, I was able to see the light. For the first time in many years, I was quiet enough to listen to the still inner voice that ministered to me. Instantly, I was convicted. I knew in order to survive the long journey that was ahead I had no choice but to change my ways and follow the path God desired for me.

This journey has not been easy, but I can say with the grace of God I made it! Today, six years later, I see things so differently than before. Through my mistakes I realize the importance of education and hard work. My experience has taught me what we think is a short cut always turns out to be the long wrong route!

Behind bars, I’ve had to raise my children from a prison visiting room. My son was 11 years old when I was first incarcerated. This past June he graduated from high school, which was one of the many memorable occasions I’ve missed out on. Not only have I had to suffer, my family has also been left to bare the pain for my errors.

Having paid a severe price for my actions, I realize nothing was ever worth jeopardizing my freedom! I’m sharing my story with you so you can take heed to my message and learn from my mistakes. No matter how desperate you may seem or how easy you think it is to make a come up, avoid crime at all cost! Which ever way you cut it, in the end you will get caught! Therefore, stay in school, get your education and passionately follow your dreams. Hard work will pay off in the end and it won’t be snatched away. Take it from me, crime just doesn’t pay, so DON’T DO IT!

Dealing With Sudden Episodes of Shortness of Breath

With COPD, there are many things that can cause difficult breathing, or shortness of breath. Different things trigger short breathing in different people, but sometimes it just seems to happen for no reason. What can you do if this happens?

First, do your best to stay calm. I know, it’s very challenging to stay calm when it seems like there is no air. Practice your Pursed-lip breathing, and try this mantra: slowly say to yourself, “I’m breathing in… I’m breathing out”.

If you have a quick relief inhaler, use it. If you wear oxygen, put it on. Do a quick scan of your surroundings: is there anything there that could have triggered this? If you have accompanying chest pain, or your breathlessness is getting worse by the second, call Emergency Services right away. If you can stand, assume the position: hands on a chair back, or on a table or counter, leaning slightly forward. This expands the rib cage, allowing you to exhale excess carbon dioxide, and to take in a bigger breath of fresh air.

There are many factors that can cause shortness of breath. It’s important to know what can cause these frightening episodes. Often, it’s not so much a physical trigger, but a lack of best practices. For example:

(1) Did you take your medications and inhalers today? Often, people with a good maintenance routine feel good and forget to take their maintenance inhalers, or other important drugs.

(2) Were you doing too much at once? COPD tends to slow people down. Then, on a feel-good day, said person will try and catch up on all the things that didn’t get done in the past week. Remember to pace yourself with all of your daily activities.

(3) Were you holding your breath? Sometimes we just forget to breathe, much less practice our Pursed-lip techniques. Something seemingly benign such as watching a scary TV show or movie (how about the news?) engrosses us and we hold our breaths in the suspense of it all.

(4) If you are prescribed oxygen with activities, did you skip wearing your oxygen with activity? I can’t tell you how many of my patients need oxygen with activity, but tell me that they put it on while sitting, but take it off to use the bathroom or go get something from the kitchen. This is backwards! I know those 100-foot oxygen hoses are a pain, but please don’t risk low oxygen levels and heart damage just to do something for a few minutes.

So, what can you do to prevent these episodes from striking unexpectedly? Here are a few tips. Again, if you cannot catch your breath or are having chest pain, call Emergency Services immediately.

Make sure your medications are optimized. Schedule a medication review at least once a year with either your MD or a pharmacist, to ensure you are not taking any duplicate or conflicting medications.

Scan your home environment. Do you need to de-clutter a little? Dust a bit more? Do you need help with these chores? If you find that doing chores leave you breathless, (especially ones that fluff up a lot of dust) hire someone to do them for you. Splurge once a month to have someone deep-clean, dust, and vacuum. YOU are worth it!

Post your Personal Action Plan to remind you what to do in what order. The panic of the episode may cause you to forget to even use your inhaler, or forget to use your pursed-lip breathing techniques.

Keep a fan handy, whether it’s a personal hand-held fan or a larger floor-stand fan. Turn it on and stand or sit right in front of it for a few minutes.

For long-term benefits, consider joining a Pulmonary Rehab program, or starting a regular exercise program. Regular exercise has been proven to help people with COPD. Make sure you are exercising within safe limits for YOU.

Anna Nicole Smith’s Sudden Death is Unexplainable

Anna Nicole Smith’s death fascinates me. For one reason the public reaction to the death is as intense as the death itself. The public craves to know why and how she died. We want to blame something. A sudden death leaves people with many unanswered questions and it can affect grieving for years. The idea that a death can occur for no apparent reason is just unacceptable.

As a licensed clinical social worker who thought I was well trained in death and dying issues, I was stumped when my husband died at age 35 nearly the same way as Anna Nicole. Mike was nearly 36, tall thin and healthy and his heart just stopped. It all happened in an instant. There were no drugs. No alcohol. No answers. 18 years have passed since that tragedy and I am still left with unanswered questions.

I suspect the same will happen with Anna Nicole Smith. So how do we cope when we cannot explain? How do we reach a level of acceptance that sometimes we just don’t have all of the answers? How do we heal pain and loss when it’s unexplainable?

Many years since my own personal tragedy tells me that our profession is in need of tools to help people cope with the unexplainable. I found some answers through organizing teddy bears into a model to help heal pain. I haven’t seen anything work any better.

I don’t claim to have all of the answers. Does anybody? Sometimes there just aren’t answers. We don’t know. We can’t explain the unexplainable of a sudden death. Our goal as treatment providers is to help reach a level of acceptance of that which we have no answers.

Anna Nicole Smith’s death remains a mystery. While an autopsy is being conducted, I suspect when it’s all said and done so much about this loss will continue to puzzle us. It’s time to help people figure out how to reach acceptance when we just can’t explain it all.

Anna Nicole Smith, may you be in peace and may the public reach a level of acceptance for that which we have no answers.

How to Cope with Sudden Death

Are you completely overwhelmed with the unexpected death of a loved one? Frozen in time? Numb? Not knowing where to turn? All of this and more occurs every day and it can only be described with one word: Normal. But whether normal or not, its effect is chilling, something that no one who has never had the experience, can fathom.

I’ve made that trip with my wife, so I speak from having a modicum of experience with it. However, I don’t pretend to know what anyone else might feel. Every grief is different because every relationship is one of a kind.

In my case, my wife and I found our four-month old daughter dead in her crib. I gave her mouth to mouth, and my wife called the paramedics who rushed her to the hospital. All to no avail.

So what can you do? Or what might you do to help someone else who is reeling from the sudden death of a loved one?

1. Do what comes naturally. For us it was to cry, as we walked home, which was a long way from the hospital emergency room. We declined a ride because we needed to be by ourselves. Expression of whatever you have inside is critical. In this instance, we were fortunate to have each other to cry with.

2. Search for the privacy you need. We were in an unfamiliar city having made a temporary move earlier in the summer. In some strange way, our privacy was to be on the sidewalk, the two of us, with all the buzzing traffic and hurrying people going by. They had no idea what was going on in our hearts and minds. You may have to be away from everyone or only with one special person.

3. Be with those you trust most, who will allow you to be who you are at that time, without directions. In will help you immensely if you can have at least one person to direct all that you are feelings toward. Be sure to talk about your anger, which is not uncommon. You may have to hug or hold on to someone as though it is your only hope.

4. If the primary mourner is alone when he/she receives the news, and you know what has happened as well, go to that person immediately. If he/she wants to be alone, you will be told so. More likely, your presence by itself will be a thread of safety for the person.

5. Find out all you can about how the death occurred. It will help you understand and process the events leading up to the death. It may mean you or someone close to you will have to contact the physician or nurse or whoever else was on the scene.

6. If possible, view the body. If there was facial disfigurement, have the loved one’s face covered and at least look at the hands or arms. You may need to be alone with the body. Ask for that time, and tell others to let you do and say what you are feeling. If you are providing support for someone, you may want to ask the person if they would like to be with the loved one in this way, especially if there is to be a closed casket.

7. You may have to put your grief on hold if you are the only person who is expected to make all of the arrangements for services and burial. The same may be true if you are responsible for children who were very close to the deceased. And it is okay to do so.

8. On the other hand, your shock and disbelief at this tragic event may last longer than is normally expected. Again, stay around those you trust. You may then have to ask others to help with arrangements and legal matters, if you do not feel confident in handling them at this time. This is common and fully acceptable.

9. Because it was a sudden death, there was no time to say goodbye. However, you can still do so when you are ready. Find a quiet place in your home or other special place that is private. Place a photo of your loved one in a chair opposite you and say whatever is in your heart. Many people have found solace and comfort in this goodbye.

To summarize, because each grief is one of a kind, the response to sudden death is unpredictable. Be especially willing to lean on others for help and expect the usual reactions to the death of a loved one to lengthen and persist for a longer period of time.

Throughout the process do not keep your pain and sorrow within. Keep releasing those feelings and talking to those who realize your long-term need for good listeners. And I emphasize long-term. Be sure to deal with guilt and anger and not let it build and cause you to become stuck in your grief.

When your grief seems to persist and you feel you are not making any headway, look to join a support group. There are also many grief therapists who deal with sudden deaths in their practices that can help you regain your balance. Both of these resources are proven aids to those dealing with sudden deaths. Most important, be open to the search for new ways to see the world, the terrible death of your loved one, and to find what others have done to assuage the pain.
