Choosing The Best Grill Brush For Porcelain Enamel Coated Grill Grates

One typical issue when purchasing a barbecue grill brush is whether or not it will damage your cooking grid. The last thing you want is to scratch the grates of your expensive Weber BBQ. Thankfully, with just a bit of study it is really simple to ensure you purchase the best grill brush for your BBQ.

How delicate your grate is, and how susceptible it may be to damage and scratching, is based upon the material the grate is made from. The most tough material that is frequently used is stainless steel. These grates are really strong and resistant to rust and corrosion. Porcelain coated grill grates, on the other hand, are much more delicate. The porcelain coat is relatively brittle and can chip and crack. No only does this minimize the non stick capability of the grate, it also exposes the metal underneath the enamel to moisture. Cast iron grill grates are really tough, however must be kept oiled to stop rusting.

Many grill brushes are completely safe for use with most grills, however there is one noteworthy exception. NEVER EVER use a scraper on porcelain coated grill grates! That will definitely lead to you chipping the porcelain enamel. Apart from that, most brushes are fine with most grates.

The 2 most typical materials used to make the bristles for BBQ brushes are brass and stainless steel. Brass is softer, so less likely to scratch the grates, however this softness also means the bristles become flattened much more quickly. As a result, brass grill brushes need to be replaced regularly. Stainless steel grill brushes are much more long lasting, as a result of their stiffer bristles. Nevertheless, this extra stiffness means that they can sometimes scratch the grate. This is why people often recommend brass brushes for porcelain enamel coated grill grates.

So which sort of brush should you purchase to clean your porcelain enamel coated grill grate?

My recommendation is to go for a stainless steel grill brush with bristles thin enough that they don’t cause damage. The usual belief that you can only use brass bristled brushes for porcelain enamel coated grates is not in fact true. Many stainless steel grill brushes are completely safe to use. Because they will certainly last longer compared to brass brushes, my recommendation is to go with one of these. That way, you get a brush that will not only safely clean your barbecue, but will also last a very long time. To get even more life out your BBQ brush, only use it when the grate is hot. This will make it easy to clean, enabling you to use much less pressure, which ultimately means that your bristles will remain in great condition longer.

What Are The Different Types And Qualities Of Stained Glass?

Many times we meet people who are interested in stained glass, but they haven’t learned enough about it to really be able to tell whether a piece of glass is a true work of art or just a good piece. I once overheard a woman gushing over a piece of glass that had been painted with fake glass paints, the kind that craft stores sell. “Oh, Look at that, I love stained glass, that is just exquisite!” Her comments were nice since she had an appreciation for art glass, but they were also ridiculous because painted fake glass just isn’t in the same class as other techniques and certainly should never be described as “exquisite”.

So that incident prompted me to write this brief description of what the different types and qualities of stained glass are. After reading the following paragraphs, you will be more qualified and more able to distinguish between good glass and great glass than the majority of people you meet. You will be well on your way towards becoming a “Stained Glass Expert.”

1. Brass And Glass – made of Brass pre-shaped metal (or brass encased lead), called “came”. The stained glass is encased in the pre-formed metal and the joints where the metal meets are then soldered. After the panel is completed and soldered, the joints are colored with a brass colored paint so that they look brass.

Advantages: Brass windows match the brass plated hardware on many homes. Brass windows are almost always mass produced, so cost is usually lower than other styles of stained glass.

Disadvantages: Brass windows usually don’t get the glass and metal cemented to each other, so they are not as strong and have a tendency to rattle more often than any other stained glass window. If the panel is sandwiched between tempered glass sheets, the lack of strength is not a big deal.

Quality: This is the lowest quality of stained glass available and is usually found in cheap furniture and mass produced door frames. It hasn’t been around for a long time and is often associated with the cheap waterbeds of the 1960’s.

2. Leaded Glass – refers to both beveled glass and colored glass surrounded by pre-shaped lead, called “came”. The stained glass is encased in lead and the joints where the metal meets are then soldered. The solder and the lead look very similar, so no special treatments are needed in the joints as with brass came. After the panel is completed and soldered, the windows are cemented by forcing cement in under the metal and the glass. Then the exposed glass is cleaned thoroughly.

Advantages: Lead construction is the most common type of stained glass to be found. If cemented well the window is fairly strong. The leaded method is fast to construct, so is quite popular in commercial installations.

Disadvantages: If the window isn’t cemented, the lead will easily stretch over time and the glass shapes will deform quite easily. Windows that are placed in insulated units can’t be cemented because the cement reacts with the desiccant in the foam tape used to create insulated units.

Quality: This is the mid-range of stained glass quality. It’s not bad, just not the best. There is pretty good detail available in this type of panel and it is quite good for many styles of glass design. If it wasn’t fairly good it wouldn’t be found in so many highly respected installations.

3. Copper Foiled or “Tiffany Style” Glass – refers to stained glass construction where each piece of glass is individually wrapped in a copper foil tape and the gaps between the glass are soldered with lead and tin based solder, usually 50/50 mix or 60/40 mix. After the panel is completed it is very strong and pretty often water tight. Chemicals are then added to color the lead lines, either copper, bronze or black. The lines can also be left pewter-like gray or they can be polished to bright shiny silver. It’s often called “Tiffany Style” because the studios of Louis Comfort Tiffany are credited with coming up with the method in the late 1800’s.

Advantages: Copper foiled windows are very strong and allow the artist the most detail of any of the construction methods. It also allows for the most ranges of patinas of the methods discussed. The copper foil method allows an artist to follow contours and so lamp shades and other 3d construction is almost always built using this method.

Disadvantages: It takes a lot of work and is more labor intensive to hand solder each and every solder line in a stained glass window, so these panels usually cost more than the leaded type. Also, because the resulting windows are so very strong, they can develop very slight hairline cracks as the glass expands and contracts in the heat of the day and the cool of the night. These cracks usually develop in the first year after a panel is installed and are minor.

Quality: This is the highest quality of stained glass, but there are different ranges of quality in this style. Imports will often have very thin lead lines not as a design element, but as a way to save money on the amount of lead used to construct the panel. The highest quality of copper foil constructed lamps will feature a built up lead line which will often stand up the same height as an extruded lead line. Best quality soldering will feature very consistent lead lines and few if any areas where the lead has shrunk after cooling.

4. Epoxy Glued Faceted Glass – refers to a technique where thick slabs of glass are broken in rough pieces and glued together using epoxy glue to form the joint between the various pieces of glass. It’s very uncommon and not available in any but the most unusual commercial construction.

How To Tell Genuine Moroccan Lamps From Fake Ones?

If you happen to enjoy shopping for cultural home decorations like Moroccan lamps, you may find these tips useful to help you tell the difference between genuine ones from the fakes. No one likes to pay a lot of money only to end up with non-genuine products.

Is It Really Brass?

When selecting real Moroccan lamps, check to make sure that they are made of brass. Brass is a combination of copper and zinc and is normally chosen because of its furnishing appearance. Items that are made of brass will usually have a rustic look to it making it look beautiful and antique-like. So if someone tries to sell you a lamp which they claim is from Morocco and you find that it’s not made of brass, chances are that it’s a fake or cheap replica of an original lamp. Cheap quality lamps will usually corrode faster. Check that the seller is selling genuine products before you make the purchase. Sellers who are proudly selling authentic goods will not hesitate to guarantee that their products are original and be able to furnish you with more information to explain further.

Made By Hand

Look closely at the workmanship of the lamp or Moroccan chandeliers that you are interested to buy. They are usually hand-crafted painstakingly by skillful artisans or craftsman. Some are even put together by women who have inherited the art of making them which were handled down traditionally from generation to generation. You could call it a dying art. Which makes it so valuable. Home owners who enjoy collecting antiques and cultural pieces will be able to appreciate their artistic beauty and the many hours of hard work put into creating each item by hand. The glass for the chandeliers are cut skillfully into beautiful intricate pieces so that when they are lighted up together, they are able to project the light in a warm, ambient manner.

Carries A Guarantee

Many online stores that are selling genuine Moroccan lamps or chandeliers are not afraid to give a guarantee on their products. Check with the sellers if you are unsure about this. Their guarantee will usually cover the product from rust especially if you are planning to hang Moroccan lamps outside your house. They should be able to withstand the elements and not fall apart or rust away easily.

Summary

These are just some of the important pointers that home owners who are interested to purchase these items will find useful. Enjoy your shopping!

Moradabad – The Brass City of Uttar Pradesh and a Popular Tourist Destination

Moradabad, better known as “Brass City” or “Peetal Nagri”, is a chief industrial city in Uttar Pradesh. It is a major revenue city where the production of brass products and handicrafts is the main industry. The handicrafts products produced by the city alone account for 40 percent and above of the total handicrafts exported by India. The handicraft export business of the city is a multibillion dollars business and thus a key contributor to the state’s economy. It is the administrative headquarter of the district with the same name and heavily populated. Since the city is a chief provider of work and opportunities, it is also a major educational hub. So, people in large masses come to Moradabad searching for work opportunities and good education.

Moradabad is one of the major cities of Uttar Pradesh. Lucknow, the capital of the state, is about 344 k.m. south-east of Moradabad. There are frequent buses and privately operated taxis and cabs running between the two cities. Compared to the state’s capital, the city is much closer to the nation’s capital; Delhi is about 167 k.m. away. There are national highways and other roadways connecting the city with Agra, Delhi, Noida, Dehradun, and Haridwar. Besides, accessing the city via trains is perhaps the most convenient and budget friendly mode to reach Moradabad. In fact, the Moradabad Railway Station is a major railway station of Indian Railways. It is counted amongst the top 100 railway stations in India. Moradabad – The Brass City of India

Moradabad is one of the most industrially flourishing cities in India. It was set up by Prince Murad in 1600 AD and hence it is called Moradabad. It is made up of two words, “Murad” and “Abad”. Murad is the name of the Prince and Abad means setting up. So the city which is set up by Prince Murad is Moradabad.

Moradabad is situated on the banks of River Ram-Ganga which is a tributary of the Holy Ganges. The city is located at a distance of 167 kilometers from the Indian National Capital i. e. New Delhi. The city has passed through the hands of various dynasties.

But over the years, it has gained fame for its distinct brassware industry. It is said that Mohammad Yar Khan was the founder of this industry who had come to this place from Afghanistan in 1860 and started the brassware manufacturing unit.

Moradabad is known for its ornamental brassware the world over. It has the distinction of being the biggest exporter of brassware in the country. The city is one of the potential cities for innumerable business opportunities and forms a large center of trade in India. The brassware is exported to North America, and Europe. Due to the high level of manufacturing of brass ware in the town, Moradabad is often referred to as the Peetal Nagri meaning the Brass City.

Brassware is extensively produced in the town. But there are some families which are engaged in making ornamental brassware which is sometimes plated with Lac or tin. The utensils are then engraved with intricate designs as per the demand of the clients.

There is a great range of products available in Moradabad. One can choose anything from a brass utensil to the most exquisite decorative items. The utensils mostly comprise of mostly wares which are used for various rituals. These can include the Lota (Water Pot), Panchapatra (Ritual Plate), Simhasan or the seat used for placing the deity and also the Kanchanthaal (Flower Plate).

But the product which has put Moradabad on the global platform is definitely the Art Metal work. The tradition of metal work started during the Mughal period and still remains a thriving industry. Art Metalwork is a must buy for people visiting this vibrant city. There is a great demand for the colored enameling and intricate engravings on the metal wares.

The art metal wares include different products like busts, decorative gift articles, clocks, statues and utensils. Metal wares designed and developed on the Mughal art and depicting those times are in greater demand in the countries out of India. These include the Itardan(Perfume Spray), Gulabpash(Rosewater Sprinkler), Aftab (Wine or Sherbet Servers) and the famous Hookah.

The reason they are being asked for so much lies in the intricate and beautiful embroidery they have. These are very heavily embroidered which are one of the finest in the world and have an extensive range of patterns.

Apart from the Brassware industry, Moradabad also excels in other handicraft industries. Most prominent among these is the Jewelry made out of horns and bones, kitchen ware/utensils, combs and wooden sticks.

The manufacturing industry in Moradabad is also set up in some of the homes and these ancillary units help the bigger players in the market. Even though the industrial activity in the city is a flourishing one, yet it is still too much labor oriented.

But in spite of it all, the Brassware Industry in Moradabad is a must see on the itinerary of people visiting Uttar Pradesh.

Choosing the Right Fixed Coaxial Attenuator

Coaxial attenuators are resistive networks, pi or t networks, connector to RF / Microwave connectors. These attenuators are commonly used to adjust signal levels in military & commercial rf & microwave systems. When choosing the right coaxial attenuator for your application, one should keep in mind certain key parameters.

Connector type: SMA attenuators, BNC attenuators, & type N attenuators are very common. One can also buy fairly readily attenuators with TNC, 2.92mm, & 2.4mm connectors. There are a few manufacturers who offer QMA, 1.85, SMB, F, & Reverse Polarity (N, SMA, TNC) attenuators. Of course coaxial adapters can always be used with any attenuator connector, but we all prefer to avoid them unless necessary.

Connector material: Both Brass & Stainless Steel are commonplace. One must watch the associated torque values; a brass sma requires 3-5 in-lbs, a stainless steel sma requires 7-10 in-lbs, depending upon the manufacturer. Using a 10 in-lb torque wrench on a brass sma will usually twist the sma nut right off the part! SMA, BNC, Type N, & TNC attenuators are available in both materials, with brass being used for many commercial applications, & stainless lasting over increased mates/demates. Undertorquing certain attenuators, like the sma, can cause degraded performance at higher frequencies, often 15 ghz & above.

Power CW: For small signal applications to 18ghz 2 watts is the most commonly available attenuator, though there are a few 0.5watt & 1 watt attenuators also available. Above 18ghz the choices are less, often just 0.5watts at 50ghz. Likewise below 18ghz higher powers are available, with uncooled 500 watt units at 3ghz commonplace. Power CW is usually specified at room temperature, but derates as temperature increases; a 2 watt unit @ 25C may only handle 0.5watts @ 125 C

Frequency: As frequency increases, the resistive chips must be made with more precision, & hence cost more. Commonly available bands are 0-6ghz, 0-18ghz, 0-26ghx, 0-40ghz, & 0-50ghz, 0-65ghz. As the construction is simply a resistive network, the lower frequency range will always be 0. At the upper frequency limit is where one can expect the most ripple in passband response, & the widest deviation from desired attenuator.

Directionality: Small signal attenuators are bidirectional, either port can be used as the input. Most of the very high power attenuators are unidirectional, they have an input & output, & hooking the DUT backwards is normally fatal. This is because high power attenuators use cascaded attenuator chips; perhaps 2-3 db in the first chip, 3-5 in the second, 6-30 in the third, effectively spreading the heat to be dissipated along the length of the attenuator. Applying power to the output results in virtually all the power being dissipated in one chip which then overheats & fails.

DC Handling: Being resistive networks, coaxial attenuators aren’t intended to handle DC & will change the DC. Often the attenuator will dissipate too much heat in its resistive elements & fail. One can bypass the attenuator with dc blocks & bias-t’s. A few bias passing attenuators are available which incorporate the dc blocks & bias t’s.

Contact Materials: Almost all available attenuators use BeCu female contacts, & Brass male contacts. A few consumer applications will substitute brass for the female contacts for cost reduction, but these should be avoided for all but consumer applications.

Electrical Specifications: One can expect these specifications: VSWR, Attenuation value, Attenuation accuracy (tolerance), Frequency (upper), Power Handling CW, Power Handling Peak, Operating Temperature Range, Impedance, Connector Material, and Contact Material.

How Much Can A Saxophone Cost

A brass instrument with the characteristics that are similar to woodwind instruments. It shares a number of similarities with the clarinet. A Belgian born instrument maker, Adolphe Sax, invented the saxophone in 1846. There are four different types of available in the world today, alto, tenor, soprano and baritone. All of these have different characteristics that make them unique. The price range of new sax can vary widely, based on:

• Manufacturer: The price range depends highly on the brand or manufacturer. There are a number of famous brands known for manufacturing high quality instruments. Yamaha and Selmer are top saxophone brands. These may be expensive but they are the standards against which all other brands are measured. Yamaha, regardless of the type, range between $1300 and $4000. Selmer sax, on the other hand, are slightly more expensive. Their price ranges between $2000 and $7500. Yanagisawa and Keilwerth are also known brands. You can buy their saxophones at reasonable prices.

• Type of saxophone: the four different types of saxophones have varying prices. An alto may be purchased for as low as $200 but the quality would not be very good. An expensive alto sax ranges from $4000 to $8000. An inexpensive tenor can be bought for $300, whereas the expensive ones cost about $6000. Soprano saxophones also range between $300 and $6000. Baritones are the most expensive type. Their price may be as low as $1000 or as high as $12000.

• Material: the prices of saxophones are also dependent on the material that is used in their manufacturing. Although, saxophones are brass instruments, they can be made of a number of materials. Various manufacturers have tried using diverse materials in the manufacturing of saxophones. The most common saxophones are made of brass and their price ranges between $200 and $7000. Other saxophones made of materials like stainless steel, bronze and polycarbonate can be purchased within the same price range as well. Saxophones that have silver or gold plating have a much higher price range.

If you do not want to buy a new saxophone due to monetary limitations, you can always look for good deals for used saxophones. Although, there is no guarantee that used saxophones will be worth your money, you can always buy cautiously and get the best option available. Moreover, you can find various websites that have new saxophones for sale at reasonable prices. It is recommended for beginners and students to try their hand on a less expensive saxophone. Professionals, however, should always buy high quality branded saxophones. The price of the saxophone can also vary if accessories like saxophone case and neck strap are bought along with the instrument.

The Right Way to Maintain Your Foot Rails

Bars, kitchen islands and even tables for card games now boast of added functionality unlike in the past. Its added feature today is the foot rail that provides a comfortable resting place for the feet. With this fixture in place, people using those areas can enjoy their time and not worry about getting tired their feet.

The foot rails are those long tubing that you see attached at the bottom and front part of a bar counter or kitchen island. It can be made from different types of material such as wood, stainless steel and brass. They not only serve an important purpose but they also improve the beauty of your home bar or island counter of your kitchen.

But as in any fixture in the home, maintenance is crucial for the foot rail. This is to prevent it from getting scratches, dirt, dust and stains. Additionally, polishing is vital especially for the stainless steel and brass rails to maintain their glow.

Brass

For your brass foot rails, applying brass polish and lacquer will help prevent tarnishing going forward. Keep in mind that this material is prone to corrosion. This occurs due to the condition of the environment including chemicals, salt air, pollutants and ultraviolet rays and when this happens, the lacquer may disintegrate.

Experts recommend applying a non-abrasive automobile wax on the tubing’s surface at least two to three times each year. This is to prevent tarnishing.

Also keep the material away from paints and other chemicals that can affect the brass’ condition. Another option should you see signs of tarnishing is to apply a lacquer remover and apply a new coat of polish on the brass. After that, you can add a polymer car wax cleaner, wipe it clean and apply a coat of polyurethane sealer before buffing the material using a clean and soft cloth or rag.

An ideal way of cleaning your brass foot rail is to use a mixture of water and mild soap. Wet your rag with the solution and wipe the rail. Do not use abrasive cleaners as much as possible as they can result in scratches.

Stainless steel

For your stainless steel foot rail, you can either use a soap and water or detergent and ammonia along with a sponge to keep it clean. Never use scouring pads with metal or metal scrapers.

If you see stains and some discoloration, you can use a stainless steel cleaner or just a mild cleanser. You can choose from several types such as the alkaline, alkaline chlorinated or non-chloride cleaners. A toothbrush with soft bristles can be utilized.

If rust exists, mix nitric acid and warm water with a one is to nine ratio. The right to mix this is to add the acid into the water and not the other way around. Leave the mixture for about half an hour to keep the corrosion from spreading. Rinse afterward and let dry.

Follow these steps on a regular basis and you’ll make your foot rails more durable and attractive for a long time.
