OTT Platform Watch: Movie Bell Bottom Disappoints, Series Mumbai Diaries 26/11 Well Made, And More!

I have been a movie buff since my childhood days, also so passionate about it that I wanted to be a filmmaker and did indeed try in that direction to some extent, still nurturing that ambition. And I always enjoyed the movies on the big screens including those silver screens of the traditional single-screen cinema halls of yore that fitted ideally the 35mm film format and whenever the occasional 70mm films came the frames used to spill over to the sides. I find this very tragic, of course no match to the horrors and sufferings of people due to the pandemic, that for over 18 months now I’ve been deprived of the normal cinema theatre visits and really missing the action. The OTT (Over the Top) streaming platforms thus have become the only alternative, for people like me who puts the entire focus on COVID-19 appropriate behaviour and safety. Therefore, I’ve been watching a lot on such a platform since the first lockdown-always selecting the best of movies available and the most-talked about Series-but limited to only one platform as I don’t want to harm my ears with constant use of headphones. Quite a few of movies are of the golden era and most of the modern ones need no special mention. However, recently I had seen three modern movies and web series of which I’d like to talk about a bit. Latest Bollywood movie Bell Bottom (2021) is one of them which attracted me because of the name that was a craze in our college days, and that the movie was in the lines of effective Indian spy thrillers I enjoyed greatly in the last few years in the modern theatres.

The hero of the movie Akshay Kumar is one more attraction as he was cast in several successful thrillers made by filmmaker Neeraj Pandey like Special 26 (2013), Baby (2015), Rustom (2016) and Naam Shabana (2017). Of course, this movie Bell Bottom is not one of his, but as I said the format seemed to be exciting. Watching the movie I was disappointed in the overall sense: it had an explosive plot that got terribly affected by an inept script. The basic theme of the film, a hijack drama of an Indian Airlines plane (based on a true event during the last term of the then Prime Minister of India, late Indira Gandhi.), got impaired unnecessarily by the prolonged flashbacks, and finally when the plot seemed to be picking up there was not enough time to bring it to a worthy climax. Although the film has similarities with another successful hijack thriller, Zameen (2003) directed by Rohit Shetty, its ultimate climax turned out to be very simplistic and sort of rushed through.

The film no doubt has its high octane moments with the RAW (Research and Analysis Wing) agent, played by Akshay Kumar whose code name is Bell Bottom, going through the investigations and raids on the terrorists’ dens. His RAW boss, indeed well-played by Adil Hussain, is but a pale shadow of the intelligence boss in Baby played by Danny Denzongpa who almost lived through the supercharged drama and action. The characters of the hijackers were also not given sufficient attention with all of them failing to scare the viewers like they did in movies like Baby and Neerja (2016), the latter being very ably directed by Ram Madhvani. The Pakistan intelligence counterpart was also shown half-heartedly. The last twist involving Akshay’s wife, played by Vaani Kapoor, sharing a secret with the RAW boss was only superficial. Some critics are also pointing toward factual errors, but those can be overlooked as ultimately this is a work of fiction. Therefore, the movie Bell Bottom directed by Ranjit Tiwari, though handled well to some extent, fails to be as engrossing and gripping like those movies of the same genre mentioned here.

A surprise was in store when the new OTT web series Mumbai Diaries 26/11, made by known filmmaker Nikhil Advani, became available on air. Having lived through every agonizing moment of that horrific Mumbai Terror Attack on 26th November 2008 through my work in the media, anything about that attack always caught my attention. However, all of the films made on the attack so far were lame attempts, failing to do justice to the terror unleashed. So I started watching the 9-episode Mumbai Diaries 26/11 immediately, and to my great surprise found it very engrossing and doing full justice to the genuine scare still felt by both victims and general people, for the first time. Although it is made from the medical point of view, narrating the story of a Mumbai hospital that finally came under the terror attack, almost all of the horrific moments of the actual three-day reign of fear are being ably captured and presented. Aided by a powerful script the characters, including most prominently the doctors and staff of the hospital, are portrayed with excellent ease and brilliant performances by all actors.

The web series also pointed out the much-discussed ‘media involvement’ that was giving constant leads to the Pakistan control room of terror who thus guided the terrorists in action in Mumbai, and the tragedy unleashed by an overzealous news reporter in this work of fiction was shown with honesty and efficiency. If the chronology of the actual series of events was not followed to details, this was never felt while watching, and again, finally it being a work of fiction such complaining is not necessary. More positively, the Series does not indulge in any gory violence or the glorification thereof and explicit sexuality that have been the hallmark of almost all OTT Web Series streamed in India. In all, the Mumbai Diaries 26/11 is thoroughly watchable for all types of viewers of any age who want to feel the reality of the dastardly terror attack again.

Finally, a Hollywood movie Those Who Wish Me Dead (2021), directed by Taylor Sheridan. With Angelina Jolie in the lead and an interesting storyline of smoke-jumpers for forest fires I watched the movie as soon as it was streamed on my subscribed OTT platform. To my surprise again, I enjoyed it thoroughly, finding not a single slack moment in this slick thriller. What I found refreshing is that the film followed the thriller-genre of the nineties religiously and to exactitude with an immaculately tight script. Of late, most of the Hollywood movies have been devoted to the super visual effects treatment-either showing all-destroying monsters or catastrophe or unimaginable sci-fi stories mostly covering the outer world and the universe. It kind of vindicated my wish, nourished for long years, that Hollywood should come back to basic human dramas which are always acceptable the world over. All the people with a mind-set of this ordinary mortal should, therefore, not miss watching Those Who Wish Me Dead at any cost. Those who can visit the theatres in full safety are the luckiest.

Ringtones Explained – Monophonic, Polyphonic, or Whatever Phonic Rings Your Bell

Downloadable Ring tones – The Latest Trend

What can you say about ring tones? NOTHING … except that cell phones capable of downloading ringtones are the newest “must have” item today! One of the fastest growing features today is ringtones, especially downloadable ones! There are other downloadable items available on the Internet too like Java Games. Various wallpapers and screen savers are hot too but by far the most popular feature requested is downloadable ringtones.

The cell phone and their various ringtones have become status symbols. Ringtones show that you’re up to date and happening. You can even take a test that defines which ringtone best suits your personality. You can truly display your lifestyle and certainly your musical taste on your sleeve.

This article will describe briefly what ring tones are, what’s currently available and what the future holds. It will also suggest a caveat to consider prior to downloading the multitude of formats of available on the market. Prices are low and the sky’s the limit, so read on.

Just What Are Downloadable Ringtones?

Ringtones are the sound that a regular or cell phone makes when it’s rings. Early ring tones were simple chimes and on later models, a combination of chimes. Limited numbers of ringtones were available and mostly consisted of different patterns of tones or chirps. An example of one of the most infamous ringtones was the ominous” ring ring…ring ring” that is reminiscent of Todd Beamer’s last telephone call on 9/11. You can hear that ringtone featured as an intro to Neil Young’s famous song “Let’s Roll.”

Ringtone technology developed quickly and has progressed a lot since that song was recorded. Originally, you purchased a cell phone and had a choice of monophonic ring tones that produced a one note song. The number of songs was extremely limited and downloadable ring tones were simply an Engineering student’s good idea.

Because of lightning speed technology and numerous service providers, one of the latest and greatest features available today is downloadable ringtones. When you’re surfing the ‘Net you’ll find plenty of sites offering tones by today’s hottest musicians; you can pick monophonic, polyphonic or true tone formats. More on that later.

A Caveat Before You Buy!

The first thing you need to know before you select, buy and download a suitable ring tone is if your cell phone is up to date enough to utilize this feature. Like everything else in technology, cell phones have evolved very quickly. As a result the cell phone that you purchased just a year ago may not have the ability to fully access the type of ring tone currently available. So make sure you check. Re-read your manual or call your service provider to find out. It’s possible that you can upgrade your phone for a reasonably low fee.

What’s Available?

Ringtones are divided into three formats.

1. Monophonic

2. Polyphonic

3. True Tone or Real Tone

To understand this type of technology, a person needs to have a physics/mathematics background and understand musical composition. Luckily, all that is needed to know is what types of ringtones are available and what they sound like. The following is a description of three types of ringtones, monophonic, polyphonic and true tone. Most websites offer samples of each and once you hear an example, you’ll know what type you’ll want to use on your cell phone.

1) Monophonic Ringtones

Some of the first cell phones came equipped with the capability of having a one tone ringer. “Monophonic” is the simplest of ring tone technology that uses a midi format. This “one note wonder” changed ringtones. Gone were the chirps and chimes; now you could play a song. A monophonic ringtone is single notes playing a song. You can recognize your favorite song but it sounds a little lame. Most monophonic tones are offered free of charge because of more full bodied tones now available, but if you’re trying to make a statement, however, read on.

2) Polyphonic Ringtones

Polyphonic ring tones also use midi technology but the tonal quality is richer and has more depth. This is because polyphonic ringtones can play up to 40 notes or more. A quick example is the sound produced when Windows XP® starts up. It reproduces the sound of an orchestra playing a note rather than one instrument playing the same note.

Polyphonic with its richer tonal quality sounds better than monophonic but when compared to MP3 quality it sounds pretty weak. Midi format may be adequate for basic ringers and great for greeting cards but if it’s real sound that you want for your cell phone, keep reading.

3) Truetone And Mp3’s

The future of sound for ringtones seems to be hifi quality. The real tone or true tone ringtones that can be downloaded onto your cell phone are equivalent to an MP3 player quality and sounds a little like an iPod.

True tone technology will allow the user to hear recorded voices such as Austin Powers announcing “You’re phone is ringing, baby, yeah”. This recording is so convincing that people will be looking for Mike Myers. Songs like Outkast’s “Hey Ya” and the Starsky and Hutch theme song are downloadable as well. With a built in microphone you can record your own or someone else’s voice. True tone ringtones will even mimic a real old fashioned telephone ring. How’s that for retro?

A Brief Glimpse At Ancient History

In the almost ancient past, cell phones came with one ringer and no features at all. Wall paper was something that decorated your home and SMS was unheard of. Cell phones were big and cumbersome and used only by the elite or as marketing gurus put it, “Early Adopters.” Very few people owned cell phones because of the size and expense.

Digital technology changed all. All of a sudden a lot of people were buying and using cell phones. This was confusing because every time a phone rang, everyone in the room started to rummage through their bags and pockets to answer it. A unique sound was the answer and that is how ring tones of every description came into being.

Ringtones – Where Do We Go From Here?

Some technical websites declare that the cell phone of tomorrow will replace the MP3 player of today. This will be possible once a dual use battery is invented that can hold a sufficiently long enough charge. The power would last more than a few hours and be easily recharged. The “techies” declare that memory capabilities must be enhanced so that the user can download and store hundreds of thousands of songs. This isn’t that far off, in fact an MP3 player being replaced by a cell phone is considered possible within 5 years according to most technical websites.

Other Products Available On Ringtone Websites

Sound mixers and Recordable Devices

A 2002 Motorola cell phone came with an audio mixer that could harness the hundreds of musical instruments in a midi format. This cell phone has greatly evolved and allows you to program special effects. Effects include echo and reverb to name just a couple. You can program your own ringtone, download it onto your phone and then enhance it with the above hifi effects.

Wall paper and Logos

Many cell phones are used to connect to the Internet and also do double duty as palm pilots. This has necessitated a larger screen and with that you need special wall paper. You can choose from a multitude of assortments. Your favorite logos are also downloadable. Logos of every sports team are available.

Java Games

Whether you’re waiting for the dentist or the bus, passing the time is far quicker by playing a computer game. Java games are available from the same websites that offer huge assortments of wallpaper and ringtones. Google the word Java Game or Gamer and there’s lots of websites sites to choose.

SMS (Short Message Service)

ICQ (I Seek You) was the pioneer of the SMS technology and still remains on the cutting edge of SMS technology. ICQ is pretty advanced and still progressing. It offers the availability of staying in real time communication and allows a large address book. As part of the ICQ community, there are message boards, chat rooms and user lists available. ICQ also offer unique ringtones as well. SMS Google is catching up quickly and now provides the user with the option of text messaging a query directly to its web site using a cell phone.

What Can You Say About Ringtones

So there you have it, what can you say about ringtones? It seems in today’s wireless world and with cutting edge technology, quite a.bit. Gone are the days where a single bell chime or as Lily Tomlin put it so well: “one ringy dingy, two ringy dingy” had to sound to get your attention. Today the choices are endless so shop around for what suits you best in your own unique ringtone. Stay in touch!

Famous Supernatural Events in 19th Century America

Supernatural or paranormal events have long been a newsworthy topic, attracting the attention of believers and skeptics alike. It seems that when anything seemingly unexplainable happens, especially when mysterious circumstances like ghosts are involved, it isn’t long before neighbors start talking, newspaper articles begin popping up, and soon enough the story has become something of a legend. Over the years, these stories become more and more embellished, and they are soon part of a community’s lore. There are numerous fantastic examples of these supernatural tales, and following is an overview of three of the most well-known.

The Bell Witch – One of the most famous hauntings in America occurred in what is now Adams, Tennessee, on the land that was owned by John Bell in the early 1800s. The tale begins in 1817 when John, a farmer, was working in one of his cornfields and spotted a bizarre looking animal. The creature appeared to have a dog’s body with a rabbit’s head, and John wasted no time in trying to shoot the thing. After several shots, the animal simply vanished, and John returned to his home. That evening, a series of loud banging sounds began, as if something were beating on the outside of the home. John and his sons went to inspect the noises and found nothing amiss, but this was only the beginning of the bizarre and terrifying events that the family would suffer. Before long, the Bell children began experiencing strange sounds in their bedrooms, covers being yanked off them at night, and even painful pinching and slapping. Betsy Bell was the main recipient of these unwelcome events, but the whole family was being traumatized as well. Faint whispers, laughing, and crying sounds were also occurring, and soon John Bell was forced to tell his close friend and neighbor about the strange happenings. News of the haunting began to spread, and people as far away as Nashville began to take interest in what had begun to be called The Bell Witch. As the years passed, the entity’s antics did not cease; rather, they became more frequent and severe. Betsy continued to endure the physical abuse of the Witch, and it wasn’t until John Bell’s death in December 1820 that the events apparently began to die down. Bell family descendants have reported the return of the spirit on a few occasions, and to this day, people in the area claim mysterious things still go on around the old Bell place.

The Lemp Mansion – One of St. Louis’s finest homes from the 19th century is the Lemp Mansion, located right in the heart of the city. The home was built in the 1860s by brewing tycoon Johann “Adam” Lemp, who became world-famous for his lagers. Lemp and his sons amassed a fortune operating their brewery that covered five city-blocks, and were well-known in St. Louis for their wealth and power. With so much success in the brewery, William Lemp, Sr., son of Adam, built the 33-room mansion that became the family home for all the Lemps. Problems began for the family in 1901 when William’s favorite son died quite suddenly from health issues, and only continued for the Lemps with scandalous divorces, dwindling success in the brewery, Prohibition beginning in 1920, and finally, multiple suicides. By 1922, three of Adam Lemp’s children had committed suicide, with another son doing the same in 1949. With the brewery permanently closed and eventually sold, and the family name so tarnished, the remaining Lemp descendants lived rather quiet lives. But the mansion, it seems, was anything but quiet. Paranormal events first began to be reported in the 1950s following the fourth suicide. At that time, the home had been purchased and transformed into a boarding house. But with the strange sounds and eerie footsteps echoing through the house, tenants didn’t stay long. In 1975, the Lemp mansion was sold to Dick Pointer and turned into a restaurant and inn. Patrons of the place have reported mysterious sounds, the feeling of being watched, and objects moving of their own accord. Though the Lemps have long been gone from the mansion, it seems that their absence is only in the physical sense, and that their spirits linger, unable to leave the family home.

The Fox Sisters – Sisters Leah, Kate, and Margaret became undoubtedly three of the most famous mediums in America when they began receiving messages from the dead in 1848. Living in a house with a reputation for being haunted, it wasn’t too far of a stretch for people to believe that the young girls had been selected by a spirit to serve as links between the living and the dead. Through a series of knocks, a code was developed where the girls asked yes-no questions and the spirit answered with a certain number of knocks. These communications led to the discovery that the ghost was that of a murdered man who had been buried in their cellar. Word quickly spread, and soon the girls were famous, traveling and giving public séances. As interest in Spiritualism escalated, so too did the skepticism surrounding the Fox sisters, with critics loudly proclaiming that they were frauds. It wasn’t until many years later that Kate and Margaret confessed that they were responsible for the knocking sounds, producing them through the cracking of the joints of their toes. Though they admitted to duping the public about their spiritual communication, their story furthered a growing interest in the supernatural and remains one of the most well-known examples of paranormal activity today.

Bell’s Palsy (Facial Paralysis) – Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment

Bell’s Palsy is a paralysis or weakness of the muscles of one side of the face, usually due to damage to the facial nerve. It may also affect the sense of taste, salivation and tear formation. Most patients improve spontaneously within a few weeks to a few months, however, a few may have permanent residual facial weakness.

Bell’s palsy is known as “Ardit” in Ayurveda. However, the symptoms of Ardit may be a part of stroke, i.e., a complete paralysis of one half of the body, while Bell’s palsy is usually considered to be self-limiting. Ayurvedic treatment of this facial paralysis consists of local application, oral intake of medicated oils, local fomentation, medicated nasal drops therapy, and oral medication in the form of tablets.

Medicated oils used for local application, oral intake and nasal therapy are: Bala (Sida cordifolia) oil, Narayan (Asparagus racemosus) oil and Chandan-Bala-Laxadi oil.

Mouth wash and gargling with luke-warm water is considered very effective in relieving symptoms.

Local medicated steam fomentation is given of decoctions of Erand mool (root of Ricinus communis), Rasna (Pluchea lanceolata), Dashmool (Ten Herbal Roots) and Nirgundi (Vitex negundo). Dry fomentation is given by preparing a poultice (medicated packet) of wheat flour and oil.

Oral medications useful in facial paralysis are: Yograj Guggulu, Trayodashang Guggulu, Vata Vidhvansa Rasa, Sameerpannag Rasa, Brihat Vata Chintamani, Tapyadi Loha, Dashmoolarishta and Bhallatakasava. Single herbal medicines used are: Guggulu (Commiphora mukul), Nirgundi, Dashmool, Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus) and Kuchila (Purified Strychnos nuxvomica).

For refractory patients, some physicians advise blood-letting from a nearby vein or by leech therapy. Courses of medicated enemas are also advised in some patients.

Milk, ghee, butter, mutton soup and black gram are advised in the diet in large quantities. It is best to avoid prolonged exposure to cold.

Ghana’s Beekeepers: Bill Bell and Joe Allen

Bill Bell, like Duncan Carmichael and Bill Evans, was located in Accra when he attended the First National Workshop on Beekeeping in Kumasi in January 1981 organised by the Technology Consultancy Centre (TCC) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). It was soon afterwards, however, that he joined his Ghanaian friend, Joe Allen, on adjacent farms at Mankessim in the Central Region, not far from the old colonial capital, Cape Coast. Here they had all the space they needed to introduce new agricultural activities including the establishment of commercial apiaries.

Bill Bell was an Englishman who had made his home in Ghana. When he first came into contact with the TCC he was living on the outskirts of Accra at Achimota, near the campus of the University of Ghana, Legon. Although he had a relatively large plot of land on which he had constructed a pond and started fish farming, Bill was looking for a much larger space on which to establish an integrated multi-function farm. Joe Allen had similar ambitions, and being a native of the Central Region he had acquired a large farm at Mankessim. No doubt he helped his friend obtain the land he also needed and the two farmers settled down to pioneer some agricultural innovations with shared knowledge and ideas.

The TCC had already become involved in fish farming and was establishing a pilot project in Lake Bosomtwe, Ashanti’s sacred lake, the site at which the great fetish priest, Komfo Anokye, is said to have drawn the golden stool down from heaven. The Centre was happy to draw upon Bill Bell’s experience with his project at Achimota and to keep in touch on fish farming as well as on beekeeping. It soon became apparent that successful commercial farming with the local tilapia fish required an inexpensive feed produced from locally available raw materials, and soon the research effort at KNUST turned to address this problem.

Both Bill Bell and Joe Allen established commercial apiaries which like James Moxon’s Akuapem apiary introduced good quality locally-produced bottled honey to their local market. Bill Bell was one of the first commercial honey producers to announce that he had broken-even on his investment and he expressed his amusement when this was reported in the TCC’s Bee News publication under the heading ‘Bill Bell in the Black!’

A problem faced by both beekeepers and fish farmers was the theft of their product by unauthorised clandestine harvesters. In the case of robbing beehives, this amounted to traditional honey hunting using fire to drive away the bees and usually resulted in the destruction of hives as well as the bee colonies. There were even some instances of extensive and destructive fires resulting from this activity. Bill Bell once reported that he used to sit on his veranda overlooking his fish ponds and apiary in the valley before him, with a loaded rifle across his knees. His stated aim was to shoot any crocodile that left the river and threatened to invade his fish ponds. The word would soon have got around and it may be surmised that hive and pond robbers were deterrent by this stance.

The Central Region, although situated on the south coast between Accra and the port of Takoradi, is one of the least developed regions of Ghana. In the early 1980s it was in urgent need of commercial projects to provide employment and economic activity. In establishing their farms and apiaries at Mankessim, Bill Bell and Joe Allen made a valiant attempt to address the needs of this impoverished community, and provided an inspiring example of how beekeeping could bring benefits to needy communities in all parts of Ghana.

Discover the Secrets Behind This Proven 1000 Year Old Bell’s Palsy Treatment

Although Bell’s palsy (which leaves the sufferer with partial paralysis on one side of their face), may sound frightening and cause discomfort and stigma, it can be treated in almost all cases. I want to share with you a 100% natural Bell’s Palsy Treatment that frequently results in improvement within a few weeks, or at most, a few months.

The exact cause of Bell’s palsy is unknown and its symptoms are many-headaches, dizziness, dry eyes or mouth, pain in the ear or face and numbness on the affected side and more.

Much debate surrounds which Bell’s palsy treatment is best. Many in the medical profession recommend conventional medicine, which includes tablets to control your viral infection and steroids for reducing inflammation. However, western doctors are restocking their medicine cabinets with natural ingredients and advocate settling for natural immune support that includes herbal remedies.

Ayurvedic medicine as a means of natural immune support

Indian culture has promoted healthy living via Ayurvedic treatments for over 1,000 years.

So, let’s discuss how we can put that knowledge to good use and discover a Bell’s palsy treatment that uses only natural ingredients. Using quality herbs will help keep your body’s internal organs strong & healthy. We’re going to look at 3 – curcumin, garlic and holy basil.

Curcumin is a spice that’s used extensively in Southeast Asian and Middle Eastern cooking and, especially in Indian cooking and Ayurvedic medicines. Though curcumin used as natural medicine has been around for thousands of years, it is only recently that extensive clinical trials have been conducted.

Used as a natural remedy for centuries, curcumin has proved itself as both an effective pain killer and as an anti-inflammatory suppressant. Curcumin’s anti-inflammatory ingredients are as powerful as many man-made steroids and acts as a natural agent to stimulate your immune system.

You should start your dosage in small portions and gradually increase it over time. There are no extreme side effects, except for some possible initial mild stomach discomfort.

As mentioned earlier, curcumin is a spice used in cooking in certain countries; so the need for people needing Bell’s palsy treatment, in these countries, to take it in any other form is not necessary. As a tablet or capsule, you need to take it at least thirty minutes before your meal, or mixed in liquids if taken in the form of powder.

Holy basil– also known as tulasi or tulsi in India (held in reverence and worshipped and also used in food), has long been used not only as an anti-inflammatory agent (especially as a common Bell’s palsy treatment), but also for treating fever, cold, sore throat, stress and so on.

Garlic is commonly known as the natural wonder drug. It is also known as an anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory agent for cold viruses, and is also known for its effect on stomach infections. Garlic has been used as a popular Bell’s Palsy treatment to boost immunity and improve circulation, for centuries.

So you see, natural products such as curcumin, holy basil and garlic, can be used effectively in any Bell’s palsy treatment programme and is a safe alternative to more conventional medicines, without the debilitating side effects. At the very least, they’re worth trying.

Joshua Bell, Alan Gilbert and NDR Orchestra Play Bruch And Bruckner In Alicante

It looked like a middle-of-the-road program of Romantic staples. Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy and Bruckner’s Fourth Symphony were both written around 1880, though, as with everything, Bruckner took all criticisms to heart and later reworked various aspects of his work without changing its overall shape. These works of similar origin, of course, also contrasted. The Bruch Fantasy was written for a star performer, Pablo Sarasate, and clearly the composer had its potential for audience popularity in mind, whereas Bruckner probably did not write anything outside the intensely personal, internal drive to express his faith. The Fantasy uses popular song and folk melodies as its basis, whereas Bruckner’s music always seems driven by a very personal energy. In any case, these are works that this particular listener has heard many times and represent an approach to music which is not a great personal favourite. I had also prepared, choosing earlier to listen to a performance of the symphony I recalled from a previous tour of Spain by a foreign orchestra some years ago, a tour which included a performance of the symphony in Alicante which I attended. Thus prepared, I applauded the North German Radio (NDR) Elbphilharmonie orchestra onto the stage.

What I had not anticipated was a performance the like of which I have rarely heard. Joshua Bell arrived to play the Bruch Scottish Fantasy. Now reputations can be built on marketing, in which case the performance experience of the ego is often less than the promise. With Joshua Bell, one feels, the opposite is true. He is in such control of the music, so at ease with its expression, that the instrument, the human being, the art and interpretation become a single force. The result would be devalued by the label ‘spellbinding’. It felt at times like an effort to remember to breathe, so completely absorbed were this audience in the performance. It was an experience enhanced by Joshua Bell’s obvious ability and delight in communicating with conductor, fellow musicians and audience to create a sense of inclusion and sharing. An encore seemed inevitable and appeared. It was again a popular choice, but in unfamiliar guise. Thus, O Mi Babbino Caro from Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi became a violin solo with understated orchestral accompaniment.

Thus far not mentioned, the conductor Alan Gilbert then led his NDR Elbphilharmonie orchestra in the Bruckner symphony. Given the orchestra’s previous association with Gunther Wand, this was surely familiar territory for the band, but this familiarity not only bred respect, but immediate and radiant brilliance. Their relationship with their recently adopted chief conductor is clearly not only going to build on the orchestra’s tradition but also enhance it.

There was not a moment in this performance when the playing, the interpretation, the sound, the phrasing, even the complete musical sense fell below the breath-taking, even revelatory. Often, Bruckner’s tremolo strings create the oral equivalent of a painter’s wash, stating nothing in itself, but colouring the overall effect with a dominating presence. In the hands of the NDR and Alan Gilbert, the tremolos clarified by adding what felt like the perspective of another dimension within the image. Through this clarified air, the landscape was able to offer its magical, often guilt-ridden detail.

Long before the end of this performance, it was clear that this was one of the very best interpretations of music I have ever heard. My earlier preparation became irrelevant. Nothing could have prepared a listener for this radiance, this sheer beauty of sound, this perfect balance, this always enlightened phrasing. For the first time in this concert goer’s experience, the music of Anton Bruckner made sense as well as an impression.

Joshua Bell, Alan Gilbert, Max Brooke, Anton Bruckner and the orchestra of North German Radio thus combined to deliver what can only be described as the experience of a lifetime.

Warhammer 40k Bell Tower Project – WIP Part 2

In the first part of this project we discuss on how to get started in making a bell tower from marking the windows up to gluing the structure together. The steps we tackle in the first part is only the basic in preparation for the second part which is more of painting and beautifying the bell tower. With out further do, this is the continuation of bell tower project. So don’t worry if in the last article your project was not finish. Lets start the work going by:

Step 1 Cut out base

After cutting out the windows you’re going to cut a base out so that the walls have something to stick in to. You can made it just large enough to fit two space marines along the outside of the building once in place.

Step 2 Glue popsicle sticks

Start this by slicing popsicle sticks width channels in each level. Next glue popsicles sticks according to its place. These will give enough support to the structure when everything is glued together and in order. Once finished gluing all the popsicle sticks let it sit to dry for 5-10 minutes.

Step 3 Glue structure together

This is where we make busted up flooring. Make it so it’s able to rest on both walls for stronger support. Hold the walls up perpendicular to each other and glue down the floors until it dries up. This will enable the building to stand by itself. Be sure that the wall can stand up all by itself. Next glue supports to the base. Use the windows that were cut from the walls.

Step 4 Prime the structure

Use acrylic black paint in building when going to base the building. Its better to include when painting the beneath the floors so that if you want to take a picture of it there is an art.

Step 5 Create Rooftop base

Cut a base that would fit the rooftop with appropriate side walls. After you finished cutting the rooftop base glue the walls to the base.

Step 6 Glue decorative pieces to base

This step gives beauty and characteristic to the base. You can use the windows from the walls you cut out in the first part of the project. Glue them appropriately to the base in any fashion you desire. Then let it sit to dry.

Step 7 Paint rooftop base

Acrylic black paint is also what to use in painting the base. Make sure that it is strong and can stand on its on foundation before you begin painting.

Step 8 Create upper tower walls

These walls will be used for the bell area. Be sure to make the windows large in ratio against the walls so that you ca clearly see the bell outside. You can damage them a little too if you want a wrecked outlook. As for me i like doing it for new look on the structure nothing is as boring as perfectly in tact buildings.

This will encouraged you to do more terrains when looking your wrecked and slightly damaged bell tower cause it there will never be a dull moment when you are playing with it.
