Candyman 2: Farewell to the Flesh is a 1995 horror movie sequel distributed by PolyGram Filmed Entertainment. It stars Tony Todd as The Candyman/Daniel Robitaille, Kelly Rowan as Annie Turant, Bill Nunn as Reverend Ellis, and William O’Leary as Ethan Turant. The writers are Clive Barker, Rand Ravich, and Mark Kruger. The director is Bill Condon.

The story takes place in New Orleans on the eve of Mardi Gras. The Candyman returns when Annie Turant calls his name five times in a mirror to prove to her class he doesn’t exist. Soon after, he appears to Annie and reveals they share a special connection.

Unlike in the first film, Candyman 2 reveals more about how he came to be what he is. If you’re reading this review, I assume you’ve seen the previous film and, therefore, know a little about the Candyman’s story. If not, you would be well-advised to skip over this paragraph and move on to the next. It is revealed he had a name: Daniel Robitaille. He is hired by a wealthy plantation owner to paint a picture of his beautiful daughter. The daughter turns up pregnant and an angry mob pursues Daniel until they catch him and cut off his drawing hand. Then, they smother his body with honey and watch him die as he is stung by angry bees. That is what we know from the first film. But we discover something else in the sequel and you’ll find there’s more to it.

As with many horror movies, characters’ first names from past movies get copied into the storyline of new films. There is no exception here. There’s Annie, the main protagonist. Her name may have come from the classic Halloween. But that is not all of what seemed to give it away. Her husband in Candyman 2 is named Paul. As you may know, the character Annie in Halloween has a boyfriend named Paul. Coincidence? I’ll leave that for you to decide.

To wrap, Candyman 2 is a worthy sequel and answers many questions you may have after seeing the first film. I highly recommend it!
