“Alice’s House” is an extraordinary Brazilian film brilliantly conceived and well worth seeing. This kitchen drama is a refreshing naturalistic look at an urban middle-class São Paulo family, one that is thrown into turmoil by sexual and emotional betrayal. The ever-resonating Carla Ribas in the title role takes us on an arduous journey where she is repeatedly rebuffed as she searches for liberation and romance.

The story revolves around forty-something Alice who works as a manicurist in a beauty salon. Even her clients have secrets and soon Alice succumbs to the same sexual intrigue and deception, and develops a secret life of her own.

Director Chico Teixeira creates a highly detailed world for these characters both in their emotional and physical worlds. By the end of the film, one cannot only describe Alice’s cramped apartment but also the wants and desires of each and every character. The film also provides a look into Brazil’s unpretentious culture and its casual approach to sex, at least among the middle class. Sex, love, romance are the forces in this story and even the grandmother finds comfort in the voice of a radio talk-show host. Her quest is to be a winner on his call-in show.

Navigating this story may take some effort, as there is no music to lead you though its sensibilities. Thus, the judgments you arrive at are likely to be your own. This makes the acting of Carla Ribas in the lead role even more remarkable. Her range depicts a myriad of emotions that propels the story through its innocent flirtations, dramatic entanglements and their harsh consequences. Teixeira, the director, uses silence to focus on this inner turmoil. There is one scene where Alice can’t sleep and goes out on the balcony to settle her nerves. Her mother (Berta Zemel) comes out and stands by her side never speaking yet relating. It’s a poignant scene where the mother, though going blind, ironically sees and feels everything that her daughter endures. By being just there, that’s enough.

On shooting without using dialogue the director said, “I found out that the body speaks for itself, like a dance. I learned that bodies speak a lot.”

Business structure: If you have an LLC, you must state that you are seeking an active investor in a member-managed limited liability company. Marketing plan: Sure, we made a movie…now what are we going to do with it? The fact that you have sought out an investor means that you have probably looked into negative pickup deals with distributors and found it darned unappealing. If you have a good head for business and/or a background in marketing, explain your strategy for distributing and selling your movie. Outside of check-ups or the birth of a child, most people will only go when they’re sick or when someone they know is sick. When you think about it, even check-ups can be terrifying for people who hate needles and child-birth may be bad for some who have to watch it happen. All of those things may get to quite a few common people, but what about the doctors who have to work there? Do they fear anything that goes on? The Japanese horror film Infection tries to answer that question in its own way.

Infection is the first film in the J-Horror series to be released to the public starting back in 2004. It focuses on a group of doctors and nurses who are working at a hospital that’s almost completely empty. After Dr. Akiba (Koichi Sato) refuses to admit another patient for the overworked staff and an untimely death of another patient occurs due to an unknown infection, strange things start to happen involving everyone. A virus appears to be going around in the hospital and starts infecting the staff members. The staff needs to find out how to stop this mysterious virus, what caused it and if its even an actual infection in the first place.

There are a number of actors in this movie that have significant roles in this movie and they all get enough camera time to tell their stories. Each person in Infection is different and that makes for solid dialog and interaction between the people who have to consistently deal with one another. Some of the characters are passive and some are more aggressive, but just about all of these characters are classic examples that we’ve seen before. In the end, they all do their part in developing the film’s identity and are connected by the main plot when everything is tied together.

While not technically a character, the hospital in Infection plays a large part in the movie. It’s a dark, dirty and run-down place that’s low on money and understaffed. They use the hospital’s appearance to underline the depressed and negative state of the film, its characters and the situations that we are presented with. It ends up being the perfect backdrop for an unknown and mainly unseen force that is terrorizing a questionable medical staff that is attempting to deal with several things at once.

Infection is not something that would be considered a slasher type film or anything. It focuses on the horror, but also on the morals of the people, the way they treat each other and how their choices can affect themselves and others in the long run. This is a movie that you may not completely understand until the end of it. As it goes by, it’ll start to unveil more and more of its plot and you’ll probably begin to get you’re questions answered. It’s a good watch that has a little bit of a campy style to it and a lot of entertainment value.

Despite his troublemaker status at school, casting directors in Hollywood seemed to love the fresh-faced kid, and Dorff soon became a child actor. He was first cast in several commercials for products such as Mattel toys and Kraft foods. By the mid-1980s, he had turned to much bigger acting gigs, actively pursuing film and television roles. His first gig was a one-time guest appearance in 1985 on the popular television show “The New Leave it to Beaver.” The same year, he also got a one-time guest gig as Scott on the classic comedy series “Diff’rent Strokes.”

Dorff didn’t land a single gig in 1986, but then came back into the fold in 1987, when he got his first part in a television movie called “In Love and War” with Jane Alexander and James Woods. Later that year, he also landed his first feature film, a horror movie called “The Gate.” Not only was it his first major motion picture, it was a lead role that got him noticed by more casting directors, who were suddenly eager to cast Dorff in their films, even as his troubles at school mounted.

The year 1988 was a big one for the young actor, who was cast in a total of four made-for-television movies. By 1989, he was appearing in guest roles on television again, mixing those gigs in with more television movies.

Many child actors find the transition to becoming adult actor to be a hard one, and many act out and rebel, turning to drugs and alcohol to deal with their issues. Although Dorff was kicked out of several schools, he never got arrested or did any hard drugs, though he does admit to smoking and partying during his youth. He credits his mom and dad with keeping him in check and not allowing him to go completely wild.

Unlike many of his peers, Dorff seemed to transition easily into adult roles, especially in feature films. His big breakout that made him a bona fide adult actor was as Stuart Sutcliffe in “Backbeat,” a biopic about the early days of legendary band The Beatles. Dorff received rave reviews for his turn as the tragic “fifth Beatle,” paving the way for him to get equally prestigious roles in future productions.

After “Backbeat,” Dorff began working at a torrid pace, mostly in feature films, averaging between three and four films each year. Some of his more notable work was in films like “I Shot Andy Warhol,” where he played the person who literally shot Andy Warhol. However, it wasn’t until 1998 that his career would truly enter the next level, when he was cast as head vampire Deacon Frost in the vampire hit ” Blade ” starring Wesley Snipes. He got much acclaim for his villainous turn, which was a big departure from the roles he usually took.

He continued to work steadily in films, and even managed to pop up in the occasional music video. Many wondered when the busy actor would settle down, but Dorff was in no hurry to marry or have kids. In fact, the actor, who is now in his 40s, has never married and keeps his life very private.

Dorff is still busy as ever, taking the lead role in the crime drama “Officer Down” in 2013 opposite “Bones” star David Boreanaz and action film star Stephen Lang. In 2014, he is scheduled to appear in at least two films, the lead in “Oliver’s Deal” with David Strathairn and a part in the ensemble drama “Geography of the Heart.”

A kind friend of mine recently called me up for a movie treat.

I am not a regular movie goer, however, I was happy and appreciative in accepting my friend’s offer.

I had a fantastic day watching the Croods which is a 3D computer animated adventure comedy film written and directed by Kirk DeMicco and Chris Sanders.

With a cup of Venti Starbuck green tea latte, which is my all time favourite drink, I was ready to be entertained by Dreamworks Animated movie.

All thanks to my friend’s movie treat, I got more than I expected! The movie is not only entertaining, it is also very inspiring and I have learned a few life lessons from the 98 minutes animated film.

Here are some life lessons from the Croods:

1) Be adaptable

The life we are living today is definitely not the life we can live in the future. There is a whole new world of possibilities. In the movie, Grug the caveman, is resistant to change and does not want to leave his cave home, until it was destroyed from an earthquake. He and his family were forced to find a new surrounding where they discovered new possibilities and experience different adventure.

2) Be creative in overcoming obstacles

Life is like an adventure, you will have dark times, you will have wonderful times, however, each of those moments, will add to the richness color of your life. From the movie, I have learned never be afraid to try new things. In their new surrounding, the Croods faced with some challenges, however, an intelligent cave boy named Guy always find ways to overcome their obstacles. One of Guy’s various invention is to create shoes to protect their feet from spiky rocks.

3) Be open minded

At the beginning of the show Grug feels that he is the head of the family, therefore, everyone should be listening to him, follow his directions and comply to his instructions.

Eventually, later part of the movie, he realized that he does not have all the answers, he needed others’ opinions, feedback and be open minded to listen to others’ ideas. For personal growth to occur, we have to be open to different perspectives, opinions and the advice of others. Wonderful things can happened when we are open to change.

4) Do not take things for granted

We often forget to tell our loved ones: “I love you.” “I appreciate you” before we realized it is too late. Never take your loved ones for granted, show them gratitude by not only care for them but tell them that they are appreciated and loved.
