The Future of Learning Is Online

Last week saw students once again march into London to protest against the outrageous University tuition fees; once again the protests fell on deaf ears. Almost two years on, a study from UCAS has shown the applications in University courses have plummeted by almost 8%. More and more people are not going to University because:

A- They cannot simply afford it
and
B- Online education offers a cheaper convenient service for students.

Learning online has really taken over in the past couple of years, more students are logging in to learn from the comfort of their own home without having the added pressures of being in £ 30,000 worth of debt. Many students will miss out on education simply because of financial issues, education should never be only available to the richest of us.

If people want to learn then they should have the right. Obviously the government views are questioned, taking away EMA from college students and raising the tuition fees to £ 9,000 a year, fewer students are attracted to the university route. Luckily online education can provide the student with the same basis of learning with the added bonus of not having to worry about being in £ 30,000 worth of debt at the end of it. Now that is a daunting thought for any prospective student. Online education is the future, it is current, it is cool and as mentioned above it is cheap (er).

Learning in a classroom can cause stress, students at school / university / college are always under pressure or under some form of deadline. Online education offers a different alternative, not only can you work at your own pace, you can speak to your friendly tutor whenever you want, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The constant access is a beneficial part to any students learning curve, unlike in university where you find yourself chasing lecturers all the time for information about an assignment, online you can just simply log in and speak to your lecturer anytime.

The online learning phenomenon is national and growing by the day. YouTube, usually seen as a fountain of lowbrow media and a gathering point for insensitive internet "trolls," has become a source for education, with lectures placed on the website, added with information videos about any subject of your choice. Schools are awakening to the benefits of "flipping the classroom," which uses textbooks and providing students with something they are more familiar with. The internet.

Good Treatment Of Women Is Not An Option, It Is An Obligation

Violence against women in Latin America has recently been classified as an epidemic in the region, sexual violence is one of the main forms of violence, and the situation of women in the rest of the world is not very different. According to a report by the World Health Organization and data from the UN Women, “recent figures of the global prevalence indicate that one in three women in the world (35%) has suffered physical and/or sexual violence of a couple or sexual violence by third parties at some point in their lives “.

In the wake of the growing wave of violence against women, protests are organized in different parts of the world, in an unsuccessful effort to stop it, especially after cases are heard that shake the population for their cruelty and sadism. And in those protests, you can read countless posters with phrases of repudiation of violence and support for women. One of those phrases that caught my attention and that I have seen repeatedly is: “We live in a world where they teach women to take care not to be raped, instead of teaching men NOT TO VIOLATE”… I was called to attention for two reasons:

The first, because I saw a harsh truth in that phrase, since I was born and raised in a macho society where it is taken as normal for men to harass women in the street, to tell them obscenities or to touch them impudently; where it is common for men to beat their women because they have “rights” to them – in some regions of my country, women consider that their husbands have the right to hit them, because they are their husbands, and they even get angry if someone tries to defend them!!! It seems a joke, but it is not-, and I think that to a large extent the high rate of sexual violence against women in my country and in the rest of the world is machismo.

The second, because I would have liked to explain to the person who wrote that phrase that Islam does teach men to “not violate”. Moreover, before referring to the issue of women’s behavior and dress, the Koran calls men’s attention to their behavior and gives them a strong warning: {Tell the believers [oh, Muhammad!] let them look away and refrain from committing obscenities because that is purer for them. God is well informed of what they do} [Quran 24:30]. Here God is telling men that they should not even look at women unduly, up to that level men are required to respect women, even with their eyes! And they are warned that God knows what they are doing, even if no one else knows, God knows. Then, in the first place, God addresses men and commands them to behave well and respect women; then he addresses women and orders them to behave well and dress modestly, because Islam is fair, and teaches us that both men and women must fulfill our share of responsibility to make this a better world and live in harmony. So Islam teaches men not to rape because if they are even forbidden to look at women unduly, they are much more forbidden to touch them unduly.

Islam has approached the issue of good treatment of women in a detailed and detailed manner, emphasizing the special respect it deserves in each of the different stages it goes through throughout its life – when it is a daughter, when she is a wife and when she is a mother-, as we shall see below.

Respect for daughters

Before Islam was revealed, among the Arabs was considered a misfortune the birth of a girl. While men were the cause of the pride of their parents and relatives, women were cause for disappointment and sadness; and for that reason, they had the dreadful habit of burying alive the newly born girls. God categorically condemned this attitude and these crimes, saying: {When one of them is announced [the birth of] a girl, the affliction and anguish is reflected in her face because of what has been announced to her, she hides from the people ashamed and doubt whether he will let her live in spite of his disgrace or bury her alive. What a terrible thing they are doing!} [Quran 16: 58-59]; and warns that one day will come, the Day of Judgment,{When girls are asked to be buried alive for what sin they were killed} [Quran 81: 8-9]. In this way God forbade this wild practice considering it a very serious sin. But not only that, but it made the upbringing and education of the daughters a reason to win the blessings of God and get rid of the fire of Hell; said the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of God be upon him): “Whoever has three daughters whom he cares for, provides them with what is necessary and treats them with mercy, Allah will make him enter Paradise without a place of Doubts”. Then a man from the crowd asked: “What if he has only two daughters?” The Prophet replied: “Even if he has two daughters.”

This is how Islam establishes the value of women from birth and gives them a place of honor by making them a source of blessing for their parents in this life and in the other.

Respect towards the mother

Islam commands respect and good treatment towards our parents but elevates the status of the mother over the father. It is related that a man appeared before the Prophet (peace and blessings of God be upon him) and asked him: “O Messenger of Allah! Who is the person who deserves my company?” He replied: “Your mother.” The man asked: “Then who?” The Prophet replied: “Your mother.” The man asked for the third time: “Then who?” The Prophet said: “Your mother.” And the man asked again: “And then who?” And the Prophet said: “Then your father” (Bukhari and Muslim).

Even the Prophet spoke of the respect we should have towards our aunts. A man went to speak with Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: “O Prophet, I have committed a grave sin. Do you think I can repair it in some way? ” He asked: “Does your mother live?” He answered no, then the Prophet asked him: “Do you have any maternal aunt alive?” The man said yes, then the Prophet said to him: “Be good and considerate to her” (Tirmidhi, Al-Hakim, Ibn Hibban); and he also said: “The mother’s sister has a status similar to that of the mother” (Bukhari).

Respect towards the wife

Said the Prophet Muhammad: “The best among men is the one who best treats his wife.”

The Koran commands: {… kindly treat women in coexistence. And if something of them should displease you [be tolerant], it may be that you dislike something in which God has put a good for you} [Koran 4:19].

During the last sermon given by the Prophet Muhammad before his death, he said: “… Treat your women well and be kind to them, because they are your companions. “

Conclusion

One of the main accusations made against Islam is that it is a sexist religion that oppresses women, that deprives us of all our rights, that we are subject to all kinds of abuses by men and that we must hold silent because that’s what our religion requires. However, the reality is that in Islam, respect and good treatment of women is not an option, it is an obligation! It is a clear and forceful order of God, and whoever does not comply with this order will be incurring in an act of disobedience for which he will have to render an account among God.

Once again, Islam teaches us the guidelines for living in harmony and security, so that the rights of the people are respected, so that the strong do not abuse the weak and that no one is treated with injustice. However, many people prefer to follow the path of evil, do not feel compassion for the suffering of others and only want to satisfy their desires at all costs. But the day will come when all the injustices will be paid and every criminal will pay for his crimes:{… But know that I have prepared for those who commit injustice a fire that will surround them. When suffocated they ask to drink, they will be poured a liquid like molten metal that will burn their faces. What a terrible drink and what a horrible abode! On the other hand, those who believe and act righteously, know that I will reward all their works} [Qur’an 18: 29-30].

Islam teaches behavioral norms for both men and women, teaches high moral and spiritual values; but as long as people do not want to follow this guide, the evil in this world will increase.

Do Costa Ricans Hate Shakira?

Costa Rica is unarguably one of the most peaceful countries on Earth. There's no army, everyone seems to follow the "pura vida" state of mind and even anti-government protests are handled with utmost politeness by the authorities. Truth be told, few things seem to irk Costa Ricans. Yet all you have to do is mention to someone that Shakira was chosen as the opening act for the new National Stadium and all hell breaks loose.

The Colombian superstar was announced late last year as the artist who would have this honor; after names like Coldplay, U2 and even Madonna had been thrown around as possibilities. This caused an immediate reaction from the media with some calling it an embarrassing choice while others praised the fact that they had gone with Hispanic talent.

A Facebook group called "We don't want Shakira in the National Stadium", was created a few hours after an official statement was made and so far has acquired almost five thousand members. Most comments in the group are from young people who have gone as far as suggesting that protests should be made in order for concert organizers to find someone "better".

"[I wouldn't go] even if someone gave me a ticket!" says one of the group members, while others proclaim that Shakira represents how third world Costa Rica still is. One of the group members says that the concert is a totalitarian strategy meant to perpetuate the right wing values the stadium represents (the stadium itself came with some controversy as it was a gift from China to the Costa Rican government).

What remains interesting though is the choices non-fans suggest: artists ranging from David Bowie and The Rolling Stones to AC / DC and Black Eyed Peas are mentioned as better options than Shakira. The fact that not a single Costa Rican option is mentioned as a replacement must be saying something about the discrepancy between what these people say and the way they act.

Shakira is currently one of the biggest musical icons: her World Cup song "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)" was the most popular worldwide single of 2010, despite controversy surrounding how she acquired the rights to use a sample in it. Locally, she's one of the only "Latin bomb era" artists who managed to remain relevant after the fever died early during the last decade and her world tours are real blockbusters.

What's more, her lack of popularity in Costa Rica, should be taken with a grain of salt given that tickets for her concert sold out in a day. Tickets began selling at 12:01 AM on February 7th and by the next day, 80% were sold. It's interesting to take note that the most popular tickets were the VIP ones priced at 63,000 colones (about $ 125). These aren't numbered seats but could land you a chance to be right under Shakira's hips.

With failures in the online selling system, fans waited in line for hours. Tickets were restricted to one per ID number and attendance is expected to include people from all over the region (this is the only tour stop Shakira will be taking in Central America).

Shakira was last seen in Costa Rica during the mid-90s and has since gone from a Latina Alanis Morrissette, to being a worldwide sensation. Some people who demanded bigger stars should've opened the stadium, seem to be forgetting that Shakira has appeared in such events as the Live 8 in 2005 and has headlined the FIFA World Cup concert not once, but three times (she performed twice during the 2010 tournament in Africa).

In the end though, it's redundant, but necessary, to point out that regardless of how many people dislike her, Shakira will go down in Costa Rican history for as long as this stadium exists. For some it'll always be a disappointing moment and will probably continue singing the praises of the Human Rights concert in the 80's where superstars such as Sting and Bruce Springsteen appeared in San Jose.

To her devoted fans though, April 10th will probably be the biggest fiesta of their lives. What is your stand on this controversial concert?

Forced And Hypnotic Feminization – A Whole New Level Of Fantasy

Forced feminization, also known as sissification, is a sexual fantasy practice in which the female becomes dominant and the male assumes the submissive role. This is usually achieved by having the male put on women’s clothing and make-up and overall acting submissive and obedient towards the female.

This practice is called Forced Feminization because it usually involves protests by the man who is subjected to the feminization. What is difficult for outsiders to understand, is that while the man may be vehemently protesting, he is in fact an active and willing participant. The make-believe protests provide an added degree of stimulation to the sexual encounter for the dominant woman and submissive man.

Forced Feminization is a powerful sexual fantasy which is widely practiced. However, only a few couples take it to its utmost possible heights. The way that you can enjoy it even more is to combine it with Hypnotic Feminization.

Hypnotic Feminization involves having the man undergo hypnosis meant to make him behave and even feel more feminine. With hypnosis the male can assume a feminine walk, more feminine tone of voice, feminine habits and even feminine physical characteristics. What is even more incredible is that hypnosis can make the man feel more feminine which multiplies the effectiveness of the feminization fantasy and also the pleasure of it. Hypnotic Feminization can be permanent or temporary, as you wish, so you can stop the moment your sexual role playing is over. It can be administered in the privacy of your own home with special mp3 hypnosis files which shouldn’t cost much more than 50$, which makes it cheaper than most sex toys.

Couples who engage in Forced Feminization and who wish to make the most of this very special and intimate fantasy should incorporate Feminization Hypnosis into their sexual role playing.

How to Stop the Media Attack on Your Body

I don't know about you, but I'm tired of the ongoing message that the natural, curvy, womanly body I was born into is unacceptable. I'm tired of being horrified when I hear that five-year old girls already criticize their bodies and think they need to lose weight. I'm tired of the media forcing their limited, unattainable version of beauty on us.

The underweight beauty ideal of today is a complete invention of the media machine. Nature never intended women to look like teenage boys with large breasts, but the relentless media depiction of this body type powerfully defines it as the ultimate in beauty.

Without starvation and plastic surgery, it's impossible for 99% of women to achieve this ideal. So we learn to dislike our naturally gorgeous bodies and try desperately to change them. The toxic body messages we are deluged with every day cause eating disorders and widespread unhappiness.

53% of 13 year-old girls and 80% of adult women spend every day disliking their bodies. It doesn't have to be this way. People naturally have all sorts of different body shapes and sizes. We don't have to let the media continue to define just one type of beauty as the ideal. We don't have to let them continue to ruin countless lives in their quest for more profits.

The National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) Media Watchdog program is working to change the toxic media message. You can help by joining the free program and monitoring magazines, television, and radio. Keep track of what you see then send your positive and negative findings to NEDA.

Every quarter they write at least one letter of praise or protest to companies on behalf of the Watchdogs and post the results on the NEDA Media Watchdog website. Since the inception of the program in 1997, over half the ads they protested have been discontinued.

It's time for the media's attack on our bodies to stop. The Watchdog program gives us a powerful voice for change.

What to look for:

Protest:

* Ads with a message or image intended to make people feel bad about their body shape or size.

* Promoting thinness as the only acceptable body size.

* Shows or ads that make fun of heavy people or imply that they are inferior or unacceptable.

* Idealizing people who are dieting or starving themselves.

* People shown using food for comfort, stress relief, or companionship.

* Emaciated models or actresses portrayed as the beauty ideal or star of the program.

* Promoting fitness and exercise solely as ways to get thin rather than ways to get healthy, feel good, and have fun.

Praise:

* Ads that have people of all sizes and shapes depicted in positive ways.

* People eating healthy, good foods including desserts.

* Celebration of natural diversity and the enjoyment of life.

If you want to take the campaign even further, write your own praise or protest letter to the advertiser or the media outlet.

Ruffle a few feathers and let them know that attacks on our bodies will not be tolerated and that positive diversity is appreciated. Tell them you won't be buying their products due to the offensive advertising.

Be sure to thank companies for positive messages, too. Every little move in the direction of healthy body diversity is great. Thank them for being part of a culture that appreciates health and all kinds of beauty.

Join the NEDA Watchdog program and be part of bringing about positive change in the world.

Drone Aerial Photography

The addition of cameras to drones may have just changed the way many industries run forever. They can be used to check areas that were previously impossible to see such as piping when checking safety and security, they can be used to keep control of policing situations such as riots and protests and they are even used in movies. Look out for it next time you watch a film, normally the video will start in the air like a plane and then move across giving the viewer a wonderful aerial shot that will be remembered.

Most drones that are available nowadays come with a built-in camera and a high quality one at that. If you own an old quadrotor and are looking to attach a camera of your own then a ‘GoPro’ camera is a good option however, you do have to consider the vibrations of the drone as this will affect the quality of the pictures that you take as well as the videos that you shoot. Built-in cameras offer a much more reliable quality consistently. Before shooting your first video you may also want to invest in a transmitter that will allow you to increase the range of connectivity when flying as well as broadcast video live from your drone.

You may look at some pictures that have been taken on a drone and compare them to yours and wonder how in earth theirs look so good yet yours barely classify as a picture. Here are some tips to remember when taking pictures or shooting videos from your drone!

Firstly, your camera is likely to get knocked around by the wind whilst in the air so make sure you are using a shorter lens to counteract this. If you couple a short lens with a fast shutter speed, you are likely to see dramatic improvements in your photography right away. A good rule of thumb to receive top quality is around 1/1000 second at 200mm and 1/500 second at 100mm. These combinations will allow you to take sharp, crisp photos no matter what conditions.

Another great tip when taking pictures from your drone is to set your camera to high contrast if haze becomes a problem (which it often does). If the problem is really bad to the point where you are getting black and white video, you may also want to shoot with a red filter. Normally, using any sort of filters such as ‘UV’ and ‘Haze’ tends to worsen the picture quality when in the air but the red filter will help to add colour.

Of course, it is important to have fun when attempting photography with your drone but you also have to remain sensible at all times. Do not go out on the streets on your first day having never flown a drone before because this can actually be quite dangerous. Also, think about where you are flying your drone; avoid flying near an airport where you could be causing serious problems. It all comes down to confidence and this will come with practice. The more you practice, the more you will learn and therefore the better your pictures will get!

What's a Better Mindset to Start With?

Last week I wrote about mindset. I talked about a mindset that accomplishes very little. In this article, I will discuss a mindset that can accomplish extraordinary results.

As I said, the person who complains, protests, vents, whines, etc. is the person who secretly believes they will never get what they want. As a result, they consume time by taking action that makes it appear they are committed to a cause. That action is protesting. If you ask about their cause, they usually tell you what they don't want.

When I am with clients, I discuss this idea of talking about what you don't want. I use the illustration that goes like this: in that corner is everything you don't want or like. You do everything to make sure the things you don't want to stay in that corner. You fight them. Yell at them. And you may even get others to help you contain what you don't want. However, in the corner behind you, is everything you want. Except, you will need the same fervor and commitment you use on the things you don't want to attain those things in the corner that you do want.

This is the dilemma most find themselves in. They believe it is powerful and strong to fight what they don't want. As you can imagine, they get a life filled with what they don't want. All they have to do it turn around and focus on the corner behind them.

To change that mindset, you will have to make a paradigm shift. If a community has been focused on fighting that which they don't want for generations, it will be somewhat of a challenge to make a shift in mindset. To make a sustainable shift, it will require work.

For one, the current mindset will have to be addressed. The complainer's mindset is most likely filled with real and imagined trauma. That trauma, if not addressed, will continue to force you to make choices that may appear to protect you. But, you will still be focused on what you don't want. As a note, healing has nothing to do with addressing it. It's most effective to confront it head on. Healing requires you to wait. Confronting requires action. Once effectively addressed, it becomes easier to distinguish how you sabotage your own efforts – personally, socially and professionally. Then you have the freedom to choose another paradigm.

Secondly, it is imperative to get clear about what you stand for. When you can articulate your stand, it is important to know what you are committed to.

Third, what actions are a correlate of your stand and commitment? In other words, what actions reflect your stand and commitment? This is the question to ask yourself when things are not going the way you anticipated, like when breakdowns happen.

Fourth, be honest about the United States' political structure. It is not and never was a democracy. It is a republic. In a republic, the government serves large landowners and merchants. Those landowners and merchants write legislation. If you are only a consumer, you will never have the economic power to influence legislators. With economic power, you can write, not influence, the laws that affect your community.

If you look at the black American community, you can ask the individual and the entire community what they stand for. Too often, people talk about niceties, like world peace and making a difference. Except, their actions do not reflect world peace. Look at the riots.

If the black community stood for economic power, they would commit to building organizations that employ, provide products and services and empower the community. Instead of the black dollar staying in the community for six hours, it would stay in the community for six months. As an example, black Americans would no longer purchase Nike. They would only support sneakers manufactured and owned by black Americans. The employees, investors and vendors would also be black American and you could outsource to Africa. While this may sound like a pipe dream, it isn't. There is $ 1 trillion that leaves the black community every year. Yet, black Americans protest about not having economic power when it is already in their own hands.

Nike is one company that sucks enormous amounts of money from the black American community. Tommy Hilfiger, Christian Louboutin and McDonald's are others. In return, they offer very little. While Nike does have black American board members and executives, it is an insufficient representation of the economic power that is available in the black community – $ 1 trillion. Build organizations that own the $ 1 trillion.

That will take commitment, training, planning organization and an entirely new mindset. Protesting will not get you there, unless you want the things you don't want. It takes building. In the 21st Century, there are enough rich and wealthy black Americans who can pool money together and build – John Rogers, Russell Simmons, Sean Combs, Jay-Z, Beyonce, Michael Jordan, Bob Johnson, Oprah and many, many more. If not now, when?

Egypt Had a Lot of Benefits as an Emerging Nation Economy – What Now?

Egypt has an awful lot going for it if it can find itself. You see, it has available labor, a great strategic location for trade, and a real opportunity to see inflows of foreign capital to build it up. However, it obviously has its challenges now. The riots have hurt its standing, and caused investment money to re-consider. It’s tourism industry, which historically has been a solid inflow of money, will take a lot to heal now after all the protests, riots, and potential collapse of the government was played on international TV.

There was an interesting article on April, 4, 2010 in the Knowledge-AT-Wharton Online Business News titled “Is China Still Competitive for Global Manufacturers?” which explains how increasing labor costs there give opportunity for rise of other future emerging nation superstars. Yes, Egypt was on the list amongst others, but will it now be dropping off that list, I ask? You see, the Egyptian stock market took a hit, bond markets there, and economically speaking its lost significant ground in just a short time.

Indeed, tensions were high, and they still have challenges there, but things were looking up with lots of investment dollars flowing in. There have been several articles in the Wall Street Journal about China’s large investments into Egypt, many worth $100s of millions of dollars in setting up factories, infrastructure, etc.

Of course, with the huge demonstrations, protests, and riots, all bets are currently off, and as far as tourism goes, it’s just a disaster, as bad as a Hurricane hitting Miami, and even worse, because it’s going to take a while for tourist and traveler trust to return. Similarly, if you will recall the high-profile lobby bombings of major hotels there a few years back – people don’t forget that easy.

Luckily for Egypt those pyramids are a world-wonder and a compelling reason to visit and they’ll most likely be there for another 20,000-years for future travelers, but today Egypt has some work to do to restore global confidence. Meanwhile their ability to borrow will be tougher and the cost to insure against default will make it even more difficult from an ROI, risk and reward standpoint. The Egyptian airlines which have had decent expansion – will now probably have their worst quarter on record, which is bad timing with all the other factors currently.

Indeed, it is my hope that you will please consider all this and think on it. And maybe this is a good lesson for those who wish to disrupt civilization and society using the mass mob mentality of protests and demonstrations. Because in the end, everyone loses.

Black Lives Matter – Actually, All Lives Matter – Our Challenges With Policing And Race Relations

One of the Black Lives Matter leaders commented that to solve this problem of racism and racial profiling leading to unfair treatment of blacks by police officers we need more community based policing. Sure, that makes sense, but could that really solve the problem? In the past it has cleaned up crime, but it has also led to the capture of more criminals and thus, a larger jail and prison population. Still, there has been a bit of research on this topic and I'd like to point out a very smart book to read on this subject, the book is:

"From The War On Poverty to the War On Crime" by Elizabeth Hinton, Harvard University Press, Boston MA, 464 pages, May 2016, 978-0674737235. By the way there is a great YouTube Video with the author done by the CSPAN TV Book Review Program, I definitely recommend it and then read the book after viewing it.

In the book, Elizabeth Hinton reminds us of the romantic notion of having the police live in the district, community that they are policing. We all believe this is smart policy, but rarely used in our modern American society – why? If it works, why aren't we doing this? Fact is; in many cities across the United States we already are. Indeed, the City of Baltimore does, and yet, they still had a huge issue there with the shooting of a black man, while running away from police. This book and the recommended philosophy of community policing is also directly apropos to the Dallas Shootings and the pot boiling over on race-relations – policing robotics – gun control – Black Lives Matter protests.

Question remains; if community policing is the key, then why have a top down Federal Government set of guidelines and Federal Government intervention every time someone claims that a shooting was racially-based and for no reason. If we have community based policing, shouldn't it be the community that gets to decide, not the media or the Federal Government?

Yes, it is true, I offer more questions than solutions, but these are the tough questions that we need to ask before we allow the Administration, or the media to blow events out of proportion causing more protests, that lead to more riots, more vandalism, more shootings and more racial tensions in this great nation. I ask that you please consider all this and think on it.

Occupy Wall Street: Does It Have a Chance to Change Anything?

For the past few weeks the Occupy Wall Street movement is gaining momentum and spreading across the world – to Europe and Asia. Protests in the US are loosely organized, but a general theme is based on the theory that the richest 1% of the US population controls a disproportionate share of wealth and political power. Also, there are complaints on the 9.1% U.S. unemployment rate, the housing crisis and the expensive wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. The way banks and financials institutions were bailed out and social expenditure was cut are the elements of frustration and anger.

The feelings of the common Americans are easily understood – the situation has reached an inflection point with disparity glaring widely. Some statistics indicate, from 1981 to 2008, average incomes in the US still grew by $12,000 a year. But strikingly, nearly 96% of that growth went to the richest 10% Americans and the other 90% of people had to scramble for the remaining 4% of growth. CEO compensation in the US is now 350 times the average worker’s pay, up from 50 times during the period 1960-85. After adjusting for inflation, hourly average wages haven’t increased in nearly 50 years. Is corporate greed stemming from lack of fear for God and His justice?

The US President and the political circles are yet to voice any strong opinion for or against this movement. President Obama, at function in honor of Martin Luther King Jr., referred to the protests saying the civil rights leader “would want us to challenge the excesses of Wall Street without demonizing those who work there” – probably indicating a tacit moral support for the move.

Over the past weekend, similar Occupy rallies were held in nearly 950 cities in over 80 countries across North America, Europe, Asia and even Africa. Cities like Hong Kong and Tokyo that have benefited enormously from the global capitalist free-market system, and have no strong record of Leftist radicalism, have also curiously witnessed rallies in solidarity with the uprising in America.

In an article in The Guardian, Tony Greenham commented on why this is protest is finding so many supporters across the globe: there has been no public inquiry into the causes of the financial crash of 2008; no calling to account of those who drove the ship on to the rocks; no assertion of the public interest over financial markets; no subordination of banks to the needs of the real economy; no politician to dare face down global finance; no challenging of the defunct dogmas of neoliberal economics and no attempt to reverse the breathtaking wealth grab by the 1% at the expense of the rest ( http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2011/oct/16/global-economy-broken-how-fix-it ).

But the real question is whether this movement will make any change the way governments and policy makers deal with private financial institutions and large global corporations? The concern is, who is to be trusted to correct this situation to bring in an equitable environment? Why should the existing ‘political and economic and financial elite’ who are currently in charge of the system change the situation to benefit the have-nots?

Wealth and money seems to defy the laws of physics and have a tendency of trickling upwards to increase the wealth of the rich, rather than falling downwards to improve the living conditions of the poor.

So, do we give recommendations for profit limit and executive compensation to the global corporations? That defies the fundamentals of capitalism and rewarding performance?

Personally, I wish you good luck, OWS! I am not sure if you will make a change but Karl Marx must be turning in his grave.
