Improving Awareness of Computer Forensics Services

Given the situation, there have been some attempts on the part of the government to spread awareness of computer crime, but not on a mass scale. It will be possible to spread awareness of computer forensics only after consciousness about computer crimes increase. The attempt should be two pronged – to dissipate ignorance – and to clear misconceptions. It is no point talking of what comes after the crime to people who do not even know what a crime is. This makes life much harder for computer forensics specialists, as they have to deal with clients who get the evidence tampered and covered without any idea of what they are doing. Online crimes have shaken the UK repeatedly during the past three years, but most home users still do not update their antiviruses. Very few companies have security measures in place, and in the lack of a comprehensive and forceful application of data protection laws, will probably continue being callous, bringing down a lot of misery on themselves and their clients.

Government Enterprise

Below is a list of government concerns that deal with computer crimes:

  • The local police force: According to the Home Office, all computer crimes should first be lodged with the local police force, who should be equipped either to deal with it, or pass it on to the appropriate higher authority.
  • SOCA: Serious and Organised Crime Agency is the body to which the former computer crime investigative wing, National High Tech Crime Unit (NHTCU) now belongs.
  • CEOP: Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre tries to capture online child sexual exploiters and spread awareness among children. They even have an offline campaign.
  • CESG: Communications Electronics Security Group is in charge of IT and communications safety for UK government agencies, including the armed forces.
  • NISCC: National Infrastructure Security Coordination Centre works on risk reduction for and safe information sharing among government departments.
  • Others: The home office has a computer crime policy team and the DTI conducts the aforesaid survey; the cabinet has the Central Sponsor for Information Assurance who are running the public awareness campaigns like Get Safe Online, and IT safe.

Computer Forensics and Corporate Houses – the Pros and Cons

With so many bodies to report to, how many of the computer crimes actually get reported every year by corporate houses? Unfortunately, we can see only the tip of the iceberg so far. Most companies are scared to report as they fear public backlash, media firing, client dispersal, and some gleeful comments from rival groups. Just like crime, justice too travels very fast on the internet, and the clients may come to know of the fiasco sooner than the company expects. This has happened to several gigantic concerns in the recent past, and it is hoped that all other companies would learn through their folly. Companies are scared about calling in data recovery professionals as they fear the safety of their data in the hands of the rescuers, and much the same reason is given when it comes to forensics experts too. One can always take the extra precaution of choosing a really reliable company and paying them well enough where high volumes of data have been compromised, and the trail is getting colder every second. It is the duty of a business house to locate and employ proper investigators when so many other people’s labours are at stake, and they have to find a way to do it.

Such Good Boys by Tina Dirmann

Such Good Boys is the true crime story of a 20 year old college student who endured verbal and psychological abuse by his emotionally disturbed mother. On the night of January 14, 2003, this same college student,with the help of his younger brother who also suffered abuse but to a lesser extent,strangled this mother. To avoid authorities being able to identify her body, he chopped off her head and hands.

This book will make you believe in the saying “you reap what you sow” and as a mother this book has put some more doubts and worries into my mind as to whether I am raising my children properly.This is what I love about true crime books.Because the stories are real life stories,true crime books provide an insight into what can go wrong,what you can do to avoid certain situations and much much more.True crime authors have to be especially gifted at writing these books as the climax of a true crime story has already happened.You know before you start reading who murdered who.These true crime authors do not have the advantage of keeping their readers enthralled with the prospect of finding out what happens in the end.So they have to be really talented to keep you reading and in my opinion most of them are.But not just anyone can become a true crime writer.

Tina Dirmann tells this story exactly like it is.There are no added frills. It is straight forward and factual and I personally love this style of writing. This books starts with a very brief chapter on how the body is discovered and then goes back in time to detail the events in the two boys’ lives until they eventually murder their mother.

I do not believe in physical punishment of children so it follows then that I absolutely hate any form of abuse against children so I was unable to muster any sympathy for the murder victim.

I do believe that more should have been done by neighbors and friends. A little bit of interference could have gone a long way to changing the outcome of this story. Many people are reluctant to report abuse as they feel they are involving themselves in matters that are internal and private to another family. As a mother I would like my neighbors to report any abuse they might see in my home. What if I have a mental disease and cannot see what I am doing wrong? As a mother I would want my childrens’ needs to come first and for them to be protected. The murder victim was definitely suffering from some kind of mental breakdown and in that state of mind was incapable of distinguishing between right and wrong. The people close to the family should have done something.

To sum up the book, it is well written and any mother will feel an emotional tug at her heart when reading this book. You will be faced once more by the enormous responsibilities laid at our door once we become a parent and hopefully in most cases we can congratulate ourselves on maybe not a perfect job in raising our children but in the fact that we are doing our very best and hopefully that this very best is good enough for our kids.

Crimes Never Go Unpunished

Any action by one person affecting the rights and properties of another person is an aberration. When such aberration is small and unintentional, it’s known as ‘Mistake.’ Slapping a person in anger is a mistake. If the action is a calculated one causing damages and serious losses to the other person, the mistake becomes a ‘Crime.’ Deliberate slapping to insult a person is a crime. Any upright person would regret for the mistake and avert its recurrence. However, a crime must attract punishment to make the person repent and deter him from committing any crime. The laws of the society are mainly intended for maintaining and upholding the peaceful existence and the rights of the citizens. Criminal laws are for the specific purpose of controlling and penalizing the crimes.

Going by the Bible of Christianity, the first crime seems to be made by Adam when he disobeyed God’s instruction to keep away from the apple tree of Satan. The result was disastrous that man was cursed to suffer by repeating the same mistake of selfish love and the procreation.

A bank manager was arrested after 22 years for his involvement in a corruption for sanctioning a huge loan to a fictitious export firm. A retired government officer had a double punishment of seizure of personal assets and imprisonment for three years for his fraudulent issuing of fake building permits for constructing buildings on the public lands such as lakes and rivers.

A politician amassed huge wealth by employing corruption methods cleverly that no evidence or witness would be left to trace the crime. Till date, no convincing case could be filed against him. The punishment meted out to him is the loss of powers as his party was defeated in the subsequent elections. A former President of a country served a longterm in the jail for his dictatorship causing immeasurable atrocities and unpardonable crimes.

One may commit crimes without leaving any evidence and go unpunished under the laws of the land. However, the conscience of that person will gradually kill him. Alternatively, his family and next generations are destined to suffer the effects of earlier crimes. Otherwise, the death brings the end to his crimes. All religions agree that God punishes him. Hinduism believes that the soul of the dead takes another birth as a human or a creature of the lower order to suffer the pending punishment depending on the magnitude of crime committed in the last birth.

Truth is simple and easy to handle. No botheration of remembering and recollecting. Truth alone wins ultimately.

Types Of Computer Crimes

With the advancements in technology, criminals have found new ways and means of committing crimes. One such method is to use computers and other related devices with a criminal objective.

There are different types of computer crimes and multiple ways to categorize them. One can divide computer crimes based on who has committed or divide crimes based on the motivations or can divide these crimes based on how they are perpetrated.

Mention below are few important types of cyber crimes based on the role of computers in a crime.

1. Computers are incidental to other crimes: This category of crime does not require the use of computer for committing the crime. However, usage of computer while committing a crime increases the efficiency of the crime making it difficult to identify and detect. In this type of crimes, computers help the crime to occur faster and also permit processing of greater amounts of information within a shortest possible period of time. Some examples of such crimes include money laundering, unlawful banking transactions, processing and distribution of pornographic information and encrypting or erasing data files and criminal records.

2. Computers associated with prevalence of crimes: This category of crimes is committed simply due to the presence of computers. These types of crimes are occurring as a result of modern advancements of technology and widespread use of computers. Some examples include software piracy, copyright violation of computer programs, manufacturing counterfeit computer equipment and other peripherals such as modems and hard disks and selling of original computer equipment, peripherals and programs at far reduced prices in a black market.

How to Expose the Bad Guys and Protect Yourself and Family – Criminal Background Checks

The chance that you or somebody you know will become a victim of some type of crime in the coming year is much greater than you think.

If you account for all types of crime including crimes such as computer crimes, scams, fraud, robbery, burglary, car theft, physical and sexual assaults that happen in the United States each year, the likelihood that you will become a crime victim could be as high as fifty percent.

Looking further into crime statistics, two facts emerged that can help us not become a victim.

Number one-Most crimes are committed by repeat offenders. With the internet we can find out about their past crimes.

Number two-Many times criminals target us or our neighborhood before committing crimes upon us.

Our best chance would be to identify these criminals before they become a threat to us. That is where the internet and your computer can help you.

It use to be expensive and time consuming to check someone’s background, but not today with background check databases available online, everybody can become their own private detective.

Most of these sites will give you information on:

Criminal Records

The 10 Most Popular Books From the Criminal Justice Field

Criminal justice is a serious matter for those who work in the field. For the general public, however, it stirs up a great deal of morbid curiosity. Many popular books have been ripped straight from the nation’s most grisly headlines, revealing a glimpse of what goes into solving a gruesome crime. Consider these 10 popular criminal justice novels:

1. Bestial – The Savage Trail of a True American Monster – This 1998 nonfiction novel by Harold Schechter details the crimes of Earle Leonard Nelson, one of North America’s first serial killers.

2. Blind Eye – The Terrifying Story of a Doctor Who Got Away With Murder – Former attorney James B. Stewart explains how Michael Swango got away with poisoning as many as 60 of his patients before getting caught.

3. Crime and Science – The New Frontier in Criminology – This book, written by Jurgen Thorwald, was inspired by true accounts from the field, revealing valuable forensic science and crime-fighting methodologies.

4. Doctor Dealer – The Rise and Fall of an All-American Boy and His Multimillion-Dollar Cocaine Empire – This book is about an Ivy League-educated dentist who managed to build a vast cocaine-dealing operation. Mark Bowden, known for “Black Hawk Down,” released the book in 2000.

5. Donnie Brasco – My Undercover Life in the Mafia – Joseph D. Pistone and Richard Wooley wrote this true crime novel about Pistone’s six years as an undercover FBI agent infiltrating the Bonanno crime family in NYC. The book was turned into a film starring Johnny Depp.

6. Helter Skelter – This true crime novel by Vincent Bugliosi and Curt Gentry details the grisly Tate-LaBianca murders committed by Charles Manson and his followers. 7. Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets – As a reporter for the Baltimore Sun, David Simon was able to follow a group of homicide detectives in one of the most murderous cities in the U.S. for an entire year to write this book.

8. In Cold Blood – This classic nonfiction account by Truman Capote details the 1959 murders of an innocent farming family in rural Kansas. Capote took an unusual journalistic approach, following the interior lives of the two men who committed the gruesome crime.

9. The Devil in the White City – Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America – Erik Larson details one of America’s first serial killers, H.H. Holmes, who was a hotel owner during the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago.

10. Wiseguy – As a crime reporter, Nicholas Pileggi had firsthand access to the fascinating lives of former mobster Henry Hill and the Luchese crime family, enabling him to construct this riveting tale.

The Secret World Crime And Punishment Investigation Mission Walkthrough

In The Secret World patch 1.1 there were some new missions released and today we will give you a walkthrough for the Crime and Punishment mission. Bear in mind that if you want to figure out this mission yourself you should stop reading this as it will give you spoilers. If you are ready to complete Crime and Punishment then the first thing you need to do is pick up the mission.

You grab the mission from The Savage Coast via Sam Krieg. You will find Sam Krieg in the lighthouse. Once you are there you should examine the discarded letter. The letter will tell you that Sam had to abandon his car. What it doesn’t tell you is exactly where however in the letter it mentions that it is an intersection with a “stupid sentimental name”. The road name is Lovers Regret, so you can find this on your map and you just need to go to the intersection.

Once you get to the car you want to use the GPS device that you see lying on the ground near the driver’s door. It will show you the location that Sam was heading to before he had to ditch the car. Now the GPS will give you directions so you have to find your way from the car and follow the directions but remember they will be in reverse as you are going BACKWARDS. If you follow them correctly you will end up at a gas station.

Once you get there you need to sift through the trash can and you will find the picture that Krieg mentioned in the letter. You will see the picture is of Sam and the obsessed fan that he was talking about. You will find a website address there as well and the next thing you need to do is find out where the informant lived. If you are in a hurry the house is the large red one near the gas station. If you go over to the house you will find that it is locked up.

You will need to use the coded entrance on the left door but of course you will need the code to do this!

Now this is the insane bit!

The same website that you visited you will need to go back to. You need to find the post where the guy is talking about his favourite books and take a note of the ISBN numbers. The code to get into the house will be the last 4 digits of ONE of the books! This can change so you will need to try all of them.

Once you are inside you can head over to the desk in the corner with the PC. You need to enter a code into the computer and you will have a hint which is “Foucault’s Pendulum” – this is an actual book so you need to head over to Amazon.com and do a search for the book. Once you are on the actual listing you need the ISBN number just like you did before. You must enter the full ISBN into the PC on the game. You will then be given a set of 8 inquiries that you will need to read through.

Once you have done that you have completed “Crime and Punishment” in The Secret World!

Where Burglars Enter a House…

One survey in Pennsylvania showed that 81 percent of residential intrusions occur through the first floor.

34 percent of burglars entered through the front door;

23 percent through a first-floor window;

22 percent through the back door;

9 percent through the garage;

4 percent entered through a basement;

4 percent through an unlocked entrance;

2 percent through a storage area;

and only 2 percent entered anywhere on the second floor.

A study in Connecticut showed that 12 percent of burglaries occurred through an UNLOCKED door and that in 41 percent of alarmed homes that were burglarized, the security system was not turned on.

If You Can’t Do the Time? Don’t Do the Crime!

Everyone has a right to go about their lawful business on a day to day basis without the fear of theft or attack from an assailant, we have all got the right to protect not only our personal property in our own homes but also the protection of our loved ones too.

It has been said that in the past in the UK for example you could leave your front door open and not worry about someone coming into help themselves of your property, strange as it may seem this was actually the case! It was once possible to walk down a street and not have to look at other people with fear and suspicion and glancing over ones shoulder, you could even greet a stranger in the street and not get rapid fire verbal abuse for your trouble!

But what has gone wrong with not only the UK but the rest of the world today that things have become in some areas so bad that even law enforcement are reluctant to set foot into those areas? it used to be that a police officer was looked upon not only with respect but also fear! after all i myself remember being told that you never dared answer back a police officer as they were looked upon as pillars of the community.

In most cases a quick clip of the ear from an officers hand was enough to get a naughty kid to smarten up, but these days it is more likely that the present generation of officers are the target of hooligans out causing trouble just because “they are having a laugh!”, sadly the role of a police officer these days is far poorer compared to those from the 1950’s & 1960’s as our present day bobby is bogged down with meaningless rules and regulations and a mountain of paperwork for each incident!

The laws of not only the UK but other countries appear to be a knee jerk reaction recently to alleged terror outrages over the last 10 years or more, some will no doubt say that if there is any terror attacks maybe we have brought it upon ourselves?

As much as i believe we have to have a strong justice system to guide and protect the population it is only effective if the laws in place are strong enough to punish a transgression with appropriate sentence, if the crime is serous enough then maybe the offender should serve a suitably prison sentence? this used to be the case in the past but more and more we see on the media channels where offenders are getting off with lighter and lighter sentences.

Punishment must fit the crime but this is no longer the case and no matter what the government or opposition political parties may promise (and break that promise every time!!) nothing is going to improve unless those in power actually fix the justice system so that it works better than what we have now!

Sumiyoshi-Kai Crime Group

Sumiyoshi-kai is the second largest organized crime group of Japan’s Yakuza group. It is also called the Sumiyoshi-rengo. It was founded by Shigesaku Abe in 1958. This gang is estimated to have around 10,000 members. The current boss of Sumiyoshi-kai is Shigeo Nishiguchi.

Sumiyoshi-kai is basically a federation of various small crime groups. It follows a loose chain of command. Though Shigeo Nishiguchi is the Big Boss, but his powers are shared several other men too.

Sumiyoshi-kai has a strange history as regards its name. It underwent various changes in its name. The founder Shigesaku Abe named the organization as Minato-kai in 1958. Later on, when the new boss Yoshimitsu Sekigami came into power, he changed the organization’s name to Sumiyoshi-kai. The organization dissolved in the year 1965. However it again came up in 1969, this time as a union; Masao Hori was behind it. The union was named as the Sumiyoshi-rengo. Masao Hori ruled until his death in October 1990.

After Hori, Shigeo Nishiguchi took over the organization in February 1991. He renamed the organization to Sumiyoshi-kai. After him, Hareaki Fukuda became the head of the organization in 2005.

In 2008, a member of the Yamiguchi-gumi gang, Hioshige Suzuki was brutally murdered in Yashio city, near Tokyo. On the next day of this murder, a member of the Sumiyoshi-kai group, Atsushu Suzuki, was found dead. It was suspected that these murders were a result of a dispute among the two crime groups.

Currently the gang is under great pressure. It is due to the economic recession which has caused a reduction in the gang’s revenue from various sources like the real estate sector.
