Although, many, either, are elected, selected, and/ or, ascend to some position of leadership, and, most of them, seem to believe, they are well – suited, and fit, for their positions, it seems, much of the cause, we witness today, for so – many organizations, losing its reasons – for – being, is, largely, the apparent, dearth of genuine leaders, and a lack of professionally – designed, leadership training programs! Although, some things, can be trained, and taught, those, related to an individual’s, true, quality of character, are, far more challenging, to discover! Before, you, either vote for someone, or decide, to seek a position, consider, if, you (or that individual), have the needed, ETHICS of a quality, meaningful, effective leader! With, that in mind, this article will attempt to, briefly, consider, examine, review, and discuss, using the mnemonic approach, what this means and represents, and why it matters.
1. Empathy; emphasis; excellence; enrich; endurance: Perhaps, because, most people prefer speaking than, truly, listening (and learning from every conversation and experience), genuine empathy, becomes challenging, to achieve! This must create the emphasis, and direction, taken, and a leader must demand his utmost degree of personal excellence, rather than settling for good – enough! Since, there are, often, obstacles, great leaders, need a high degree of endurance, focused on being able to enrich, the group, in a relevant, sustainable way!
2. Truth/ trust; timely; time – tested; trends: Either, one tells the truth, or he doesn’t deserve to earn his stakeholders’ trust! To do one’s best, means, proceeding, with a well – balanced, focus, between time – tested expertise, and well – considered, timely actions! It requires, proceeding, consistently, with an open – mind, including, examining current trends, etc, and using the most appropriate ones, for, the better!
3. Humane; head/ heart; hearing; honesty: When someone proceeds, with real honesty, consistently, and listens to others, carefully, clearly, hearing needs, goals, priorities, and perceptions, he is more capable of being, humane, etc! It takes a willingness and ability to use the finest logical and emotional components, in a head/ heart balance, to make a difference, for the better!
4. Integrity; imagination; innovate; ideas; ideals/ ideology: A leader’s integrity must be genuine, and absolute, to be meaningful! When this is the first requirement, and then, an individual, with a well – developed, relevant imagination, willing to innovate (when, necessary), to introduce the best ideas, etc, which align with the group’s ideology, and stakeholder’s ideals, we optimize our chance, to find the right type of leader!
5. Character; create; coordinate; challenges: Closely examine the quality of someone’s character! Does that individual, appear to have, what it takes, to create the best plans, and coordinate activities, and/ or actions, to overcome challenges, for the better?
6. System; sustainable; solutions; service; strengths/ stronger: Great leaders realize it is their responsibility to create the finest, most – sustainable system, emphasizing viable solutions, which are relevant and sustainable, and provides quality service! They know, and use their strengths, effectively, in order to make their organizations, stronger, etc!
Do you have what it takes, and will you, consistently, proceed, with meaningful, genuine, ETHICS? Are you up to the tasks and responsibilities?
