6 Ways to Improve Sperm Motility Naturally

Proper sperm motility is extremely important to conception. If the doctor told you that you have low or poor sperm motility, it means only a small portion of your sperm is able the swim to the egg. The rest of your sperm are either dead, swimming in circles and/or without purpose.

A few years ago I was diagnosed with having a low sperm count and poor sperm motility. Here are 6 great tips that really helped me to improve how motile my sperm was naturally and I swear helped my wife get pregnant!

Keep in mind though that sperm takes about 3 months to form and produce so you will want to get started on these tips and suggestions right away.

Sperm Motility Tip #1 – Increase Your Zinc

Zinc is a trace mineral that is needed to make the outer layer and tail of sperm. Make sure your diet is rich in zinc if you want to have strong sperm.

Oysters are an excellent source of zinc. However, keep in mind that too much zinc is harmful to the body (50mg + a day from food or supplements), and that seafood that is high up in the food chain such as shark and without scales such as catfish, lobster or oysters contain more contaminants and pollutants including mercury and waterborne pathogens.

Other great and safe sources of zinc include sesame seeds (make sure they’re not toasted or salted – they should be raw), pumpkin or squash seeds, Celtic sea salt, and seaweed.

Sperm Motility Tip #2 – Increase Your Folate Intake

It’s not just women who need lots of folate in their diets. A recent study showed that men who had a diet rich in folate had better quality sperm. A lot folate diet is linked to sperm abnormality including poor sperm motility. Tip – The synthetic version of folate is known as folic acid.

Sperm Motility Tip #3 – Increase Your Vitamin C Intake

A lack of Vitamin C in the diet has been shown to lead to sperm clumping together. Make sure your diet is rich in Vitamin C. Great sources of Vitamin C include citrus fruits – grapefruits, oranges and vegetables such as kale, broccoli and sweet red peppers.

Sperm Motility Tip #4 – Opt For Organics

Make sure you always buy organic fruits and vegetables whenever possible. Pesticides have been linked to both male and female infertility. The easiest way to start eating organics is to switch a non-organic food from your diet to one that is organic. Do this for all your food until you are only buying organics.

Sperm Motility Tip #5 – Eat Your Fruits, Vegetables, Nuts and Seeds Raw

When you heat and cook food it destroys much of the valuable trace minerals, vitamins, antioxidants and more. Eat all your fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds raw whenever possible for optimal nutrition. Make sure they are always thoroughly washed and organic when possible.

Sperm Motility Tip #6 – Stop the Caffeine

Caffeine impairs sperm production, cause chromosomal abnormalities, and effects how motile your sperm is. Replace your daily cup of coffee or tea with a herbal alternative such as rooibos, peppermint or chamomile tea.
