Mile 6 of the Pettyjohn Cave Survey

Mile six of Pettyjohn Cave is a push to the extreme limits of the cave, The Outer Limits was pushed, then the discovery and survey of the Discovery Room and next the survey of Schreiber’s Extension.

The Discovery Room is currently the most northern room in the cave. High above the Emerald Pool and directly under Pigeon Mountain, it is the second largest room in the cave. Two hundred and fifty feet long and over forty feet wide in places with ceiling heights of close to twenty feet. The room ends with a large breakdown.

Schreiber’s Extension may have been explored before this survey, and it is the longest stretch of stream passage found so far. Reaching around the edge of the mountain to the west and south, it is the least explored and understood section of the cave.

February 22, 1974 – Richard Schreiber and Allen Padgett surveyed in The Labyrinth and on the first survey shot of 32 feet they surpassed the 5 Mile Mark. They continued unaware of the event and surveyed 585.89 feet T.H.C. Total survey now 26,969.69 feet.

May 26, 1974 – Richard Schreiber, Rod Price and Ted Wilson picked up the down stream passage out in the Outer Limits and started surveying at station X38. They explored and surveyed almost to the lower end of the Outer Limits but at the lower stream level. To exit they had to loop back up the stream to the junction, climb up to the upper level and the cave south again. This is about a six round trip from the entrance!

The survey resulted in 440.54 feet T.H.C. Total survey now 27,410.23 feet.

June 8, 1974 – Richard Schreiber and Gerald Moni caved out to the start of Tobacco Road and pushed an up stream passage. Note: There are two stations labeled W151, one is at the far northwestern tip of the Outer Limits and the other is at the start of Tobacco Road. The June 8 survey was recorded in two different survey books. The correct location used on a map by Jeff Harris November 1990 and Richard Schreiber’s own survey plot is at the end of the Outer Limits.

From the junction of station W65, Tobacco Road and Outer Limits, they surveyed down to the stream level and connected to the lower level of the Outer Limits. And then caved up the stream to the northwestern tip of the Outer Limits and pushed this passage another two hundred feet.

The survey resulted in 732.90 feet T.H.C. Total survey now 28,143.13 feet.

November 2, 1974 – Richard Schreiber and Ted Wilson did some mop up surveying in the Outer Limits. They extended the stream from the Outer Limits to a near siphon less than a hundred feet from where it emerges again.

The survey resulted in 430.01 feet T.H.C. Total survey now 28,573.14 feet.

August 10, 1975 – Richard Schreiber, Marion Smith and a group from Massachusetts and Connecticut carried sections of a scaling pole to the Emerald Pool and Warren Heller climbed up but nothing was gained.

August 23, 1981 – Richard Schreiber, Dwight Drennan, Wesley Sprunger, Pete Uberto and Keith Lynn returned to the Emerald Pool and bolted up the wall or used a rope left from the pole climb. They discovered the Discovery Room after climbing higher and a few tight squeezes.

The survey resulted in 409.23 feet T.H.C. Total survey now 28,982.37 feet.

June 11, 1983 – Richard Schreiber, Wesley Sprunger and Pete Uberto started the survey of Schreiber’s Extension from station Z19 in the Squirrel Room. Discovered by the same group on April 30, 1983.

The survey resulted in 1,400.59 feet T.H.C. Total survey now 30,382.96 feet.

July 9, 1983 – Richard Schreiber, Keith Lynn, Wesley Sprunger and Pete Uberto returned to Schreiber’s Extension and continued the survey. On this survey the cave was pushed beyond the most western limits to date as Schreiber’s Extension continues around the side of the mountain.

The survey resulted in 497.36 feet T.H.C. Total survey now 30,880.32 feet.

August 13, 1983 – Richard Schreiber, Ed Strausser, Wesley Sprunger and Pete Uberto resumed the survey, breaking the six mile mark at station ZA111.

Schreiber’s Extension is full of leads mostly going up. The survey followed the stream level and there are upper levels to be found just about the full length of the passage with few having been explored or surveyed. Schreiber’s notes are full of comments about leads and climbs up into upper levels. The next mile will take us to the end of Schreiber’s Extension and one of those upper levels.

The raw survey data for the sixth mile is available in pdf format on my caving web site.

The Origins and Popularity of Baseball Cards

Baseball cards have been popular with adults and children enamored with the game and the focus of collectors since they were first distributed. These cards were originally produced as a marketing vehicle, but with the rise in baseball’s popularity, these trading cards have evolved into a more valuable commodity.

Baseball became a professional sport during the late 1860s at about the same time that photography was also gaining recognition. Baseball clubs soon began posing for group and individual pictures which were printed onto small cards. These cards were about the size of wallet photos and used by a variety of companies to promote their business. The products being advertised had no connection to baseball until in 1868 a sporting goods store in New York named Peck and Snyder, began producing trade cards featuring baseball teams. The typical card featured an image on one side and the advertising on the other.

By the late 1800s, cards with images of baseball players could be found inside cigarette packs. This was not only done for promotional purposes but also to protect the cigarettes from damage. By the early 1900s tobacco companies and confectionery companies started producing and distributing baseball trade cards with their products. A caramel company named Rueckheim Bros. & Eckstein was one of the first to include prizes in boxes. In 1914 they produced the Cracker Jack card issues featuring major league players.

The production of baseball cards declined during World War I until the economy transitioned away from wartime production. The economic effects of the Great Depression also had an impact in the production of baseball cards. The popular 1933 Goudey Gum Co. issue of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig cards revived significant production once again. These cards had hand-colored player photos on the front and personal information and brief biographies on the back.

During the 1940s a major producer of baseball cards was the Bowman Gum Company. Its biggest competitor was Topps Gum Company who eventually bought out Bowman and monopolized the U.S. baseball card market over the next two decades. Other players emerged during the 1960s as Post Cereals issued cards on cereal boxes and Jell-O included identical cards on the back of its packages. During the 1970s Kellogg’s produced 3D-cards inside its cereal and Hostess printed them on its packages of baked goods.

The 1980s saw a rise in collectors entering the hobby market as higher quality card stock, tamper-proof foil packaging, and hologram-style logos fetched higher premiums for the cards. With the popularity of computers and access to the internet in the late 1990s, hobby retail shops and trade shows saw a decline in business as online transactions took away the bulk of their customer base.

Baseball cards have also been popular around the world. Canada followed in the same historical footsteps as the U.S. first selling trade cards, and then issuing them through tobacco products and later with gum and candies. Baseball card sets also appeared in Japan as early as 1898 although they used traditional Japanese pen and ink illustrations. The Topps Gum Co. issued licensed sets in Venezuela from 1959 to 1977 with Spanish text on the cards, and Cuba was issuing sets in the early 1900s.

What started out as a clever marketing ploy targeted primarily to adults, has led to a growing market of collectors and historians trading and selling, hoping to acquire a vintage baseball card worth thousands of dollars.

Ringworm Can Affect Anyone – Here’s Home Remedies

Ringworm doesn’t really care who it affects – you, your dogs, or your cats. And since it spreads easily, if you’ve got kids in school, you may find yourself treating it.

It’s not really a worm. It’s a fungal infection of the skin that usually shows up in humans as raised red patches with defined edges… looking like a worm curled under the skin. It doesn’t always look like a ring when it affects your pets, but it does make their hair break off over the affected area.

Ringworm can be transferred back and forth between pets and humans – pets and pets – or humans and humans. The fungal spores can live for a long time in the environment, so it’s important to do a good anti-fungal cleaning if your home has had it.

But – I promised some home remedies, not a lecture on house cleaning, so here they are. Use most several times a day.

1. Aloe Vera

2. Tea tree oil

3. Honey and olive oil in melted beeswax

4. Apple cider vinegar

5. Listerine mouthwash

6. The oregano herb – mix with olive oil

7. Epsom salt solution – soak once a day

8. Nail polish – if you use it on pets, make sure it’s dry before you turn them loose

9. Chewing tobacco – any wet tobacco. Use as a poultice and wrap it.

10. Diluted lime sulfur – one part to 16 to 32 parts water. Will stain!

11. Grapefruit seed extract

12. Raw papaya

13. Fresh garlic

14. Bleach – one part bleach to 6 parts water

15. Bag balm

16. Pure virgin coconut oil – also good for diaper rash!

Remember that everyone – pets and people alike – has a different system. Watch for allergic reactions and discontinue if they appear. Remember that allergies can take many forms – including headaches and muscle aches.

Here Is What You Need to Know About Vaping As a Beginner

Vaping refers to the inhalation and exhalation of the aerosol or vapor. Typically, it’s produced by a device, such as the electronic version of smokers. This term is in use as they don’t emit tobacco smoke. The problem is that people mistake aerosol for water vapor, but there is a difference between the two. Let’s find out more.

Vapor is actually water vapor that comprises fine particles that have different amount of toxic chemicals. It’s important to keep in mind that these chemicals may cause heart disease, respiratory disease and cancer, to name a few.

Since these units became quite common with the passage of time, vaping has gone up in popularity. They were made available in the market in 2007, in the United States. Therefore, the statistics tell us that these products are taking the place of regular cigarettes, which is why you should give them a go. And we can say for sure that you won’t regret your decision.

As far as vaping devices are concerned, they include vape pens and modern vaporizers, aka MODS as well. The electronic type looks like the regular type, but vape pens look like big fountain pens. Also, what makes them different from other alternatives include cost and design. The design is simple but cost is a bit higher. Aside from this, they are customizable to meet the needs of users.

Typically, a vaping unit comprises many components, such as a battery, e-liquid cartridge, heating parts and a mouthpiece. When you turn on the device, the battery powers the heating part that transforms the liquid into aerosol. The user inhales the aerosol and then exhales a few seconds later.

Usually, the e-liquid found in these products has a nicotine based propylene glycol. Aside from this, it contains artificial flavors, metals or other chemicals. However, it doesn’t contain tobacco. Keep in mind that some users use the units for vaping THC. This chemical is used to produce the mind-altering effects just like marijuana. Similarly, it creates effects that flakka produce, which is a synthetic drug.

As far as the popularity is concerned, the most popular product is called JUUL. This is a small unit that looks like a computer flash drive. Since it has a subtle design, it is easier to hide. This is the main reason why it’s so popular among students.

The good thing is that vaping products are safer than regular tobacco based products for a number of reasons. As a matter of fact, they are quite popular in the united states. Moreover, you can choose from different flavors, such as fruit medley, mango, and crème brulee, to name a few. Also, some products contain a lot of nicotine with good flavors. In fact, some cartridges contain the amount of nicotine that can be found in a full packet of regular smoke producers.

Long story short, this was an introduction to vaping and vaping products. You can choose from your desired products to meet your vaping needs. Just make sure you don’t use these devices if you already have cancer, cardiac disease or other deadly diseases. Hope this helps.

Low Sperm Count and Low Sperm Quality – Proven Effective Remedies

Sperm Count: Of the millions of sperm ejaculated, only about 200 manage to reach the egg (ovum) in the woman’s fallopian tube and only one actually impregnates the egg. Low sperm count also known as oligospermia occurs when sperm count is less than 20 million sperm per milliliter of semen. Other than sperm count, sperm quality and motility are equally important in male fertility.

Sperm Quality: In order for conception to occur, at least 60% of the sperm should be of a normal morphology (shape and structure). Normal sperm have an oval head and a long tail. Sperm with misshapen heads or curled tails or double tails have a lower chance of fertilizing the egg.

Sperm Motility: The sperm’s tail propels it forward. Sperm should have the ability to move and swim in order to reach the egg. The chances of fertilization are greater if at least 50% of the sperm have motility (forward movement).

Causes of Low Sperm Count and Quality

  • Stress: Emotional stress and other psychological issues can lead to low sperm count
  • Heat exposure: Hot baths, saunas, high work temperatures, tight clothing, even using laptops, fever – all cause testicular overheating which leads to lower sperm count and quality.
  • Cycling: Exercises such as bicycling can raise scrotal temperature and also cause genital numbness
  • Alcohol abuse: Alcohol lowers fertility
  • Smoking : Smoking or chewing tobacco can cause abnormal sperm morphology. It can also damage the sperm’s DNA and cause fetal defects.
  • Lubricants: Use of lubricants during intercourse can affect sperm motility.
  • Recreational drugs: Marijuana, cocaine and opium can adversely affect sperm count and quality in addition to causing erectile dysfunction

Ways to increase sperm count and quality

  • Avoid prolonged use of laptops, hot baths, tight fitting underpants, bicycling and any activity that can raise scrotal temperatures.
  • Avoid alcohol, tobacco and drug abuse.
  • Avoid lubricants.
  • Avoid using toxic chemicals including household cleaning products or use protective clothing, proper ventilation and face masks.
  • Reduce stress by meditation and relaxation.
  • Exercise adequately.
  • Maintain normal healthy body weight.
  • Try herbal supplements and vitamins

Quit Smoking Injection – All You Need To Know About The Injection to Stop Smoking!

Today there are 5 million tobacco-related deaths per year, with 1.3 billion people who smoke, and tobacco is the leading cause of death that can be preventable according to the World Health Organization. A thing that used to considered “cool”, such as the Marlboro billboards across the country, is now on the tip list of killers.

To combat this, the stop smoking injection, or the stop smoking vaccine, is one of the most successful and aggressive stop smoking aids with a 70-80% success rate of all the available smoking aids. A medical therapy, this type of aid takes place in a medical clinic under experienced physicians with supervision. Counseling and group therapy also work well to combine with the injection aid for smokers who are struggling to successfully quit.

Three injections of Scopolamine or Atropine behind the ears, on the hip, or on the arms, will block the nicotine receptors in the brain. As a part of the treatment, the patient is required to wear a scopolamine patch behind his ear and take atropine tablets for two weeks after getting the shot. The brain will not recognize that it needs nicotine so the nicotine addiction will eventually vanish – as an antismoking aid, these injection chemicals act on the nicotine “sensitive” areas of the brain and reduces the craving for a smoke. A single session may last from an hour to an hour and a half and costs approximately 350-500 dollars, but it usually is covered by health insurance policies.

The drugs involved with the stop smoking injections are medically classified as anti-cholinergics and are mainly used in helping to control neural activity in the brain. They have been extensively used previously in the medical field in the form of anesthetics during surgery or as a temporary means of curing Parkinson’s disease. The most common side effects associated with these anti-smoking injections are dizziness, dry mouth, headaches, and problems in urinating which happens soon after the injection is given, if it happens at all.

Long-term effects include hallucination, strokes, and heart attacks. However, these are rare, and are usually observed only in those smokers who are subjected to high dosages. In extreme cases, the person can also end up in coma. A smoker needs to undergo a complete medical check up before treatment. However, this treatment should be avoided for pregnant women or those who suffer from cardiac disorders. People who are using other narcotics also should avoid the anti-smoking injections also. If nothing else is working for you, you should try the injections for quitting smoking before going back to smoking, as your health is very important.

Sigmund Freud’s Nephew and Corporate Alien Control

His name was Edward L. Bernays. He was Sigmund Freud’s Nephew. He was born in Vienna on November 22, 1891 and died in his home at Cambridge, Massachusetts on March 9, 1995 at the age of 103.

Before the early twentieth century, marketers thought of people as being rational beings. They figured all they had to do was reason with the public logically if they wanted to sell their product. Freud’s theories pointed out that everyone also possessed an unconscious mind filled with instincts and hidden emotions as sex, security, aggression, and survival. This unconscious mind greatly influences how people as a whole behave.

Edward Bernays was raised in the United States. He spent a lot of the summers of his youth vacationing in Austria and getting to know firsthand some of his famous uncle’s theories. He used what he learned to formulate the most useful corporate alien theory on the planet. This theory is called “Public Relations” by some, and “Spin” by others. You and I have been influenced by spin for decades if we’ve lived in any so called “civilized” nation of the world.

Some of Bernays’ campaigns actually changed the behavior of most Americans. In the mid twenties, a company called Beechnut Packing wanted to improve its sales of bacon. Bernays, instead of creating a campaign to put the bacon on sale created a new and unheard of use for the product. He asked the medical community if it was better for people to have a hardy breakfast or a light breakfast. Doctors agreed that a hearty breakfast was better. The breakfast of that period consisted of toast, coffee, and juice. Bernays added bacon and eggs to this breakfast. He started a marketing campaign that touted the medical benefits of a hearty breakfast that included bacon and eggs. To this day, an “all American” breakfast includes bacon and eggs.

Another of his campaigns was for the American Tobacco Company. By the mid twenties, smoking was prevalent in the United States and cigarettes were the most popular form of tobacco. Women, however, were not allowed to smoke in public. In 1928 the American Tobacco Company hired Bernays to try and change this. He consulted with a psychoanalyst A.A. Brill, who suggested that what women really want was the freedom to do the same things men do. So during New York’s 1929 Easter Parade, Bernays hired debutantes to march in the parade pretending to be suffragettes. On his signal, these women all lit up a cigarette. He had photographers standing by to mark the event and referred to cigarettes as being “torches of freedom.” It appeared that anyone against women smoking was against women’s liberation as well. Bernays saw to it that this event was publicized throughout the world. Smoking by women everywhere quickly skyrocketed when they began to associate cigarettes with freedom.

Here is how Bernays felt about Public Relations and democracy:

The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country.

Democracies are not the only forms of government that use spin. Doctor Joseph Goebbels, Hitler’s propaganda minister, kept copies of Bernays’ books in his extensive “mind control” library. Bernays never had Hitler as a client, but some techniques from his books were used in the Nazi campaign against the Jews.

During his later years Bernays saw how Public Relations was currently being misused. On his hundredth birthday in 1991 he said: “Public relations today is horrible. Any dope, any nitwit, any idiot can call him or herself a public relations practitioner.” He really wanted the science of Public Relations to be used for the good of mankind.

In order to use the science of Spin, one needs to enough money to wage a successful campaign and media approval. Today, there are only six or seven media corporations that control the majority of the news and entertainment the public sees. Governments have enough power to approve or deny what the public sees. The media only spins government policies that are considered “patriotic” and “politically correct.” Big corporations, because of massive wealth, buy the needed spin for their products to stand out. Corporate alien leaders thus determine what is good for the people.

During the Viet-Nam war the American people were constantly being told through the media that if the communists won in Viet-Nam, democracy would be lost. The communists won and nothing happened. There were over 58,000 Americans killed, 303,000 wounded and over 3,800,000 Vietnamese lost their lives. Many Americans still believe the media spin and think the war was necessary.

The current Iraqi war has the government again launching a Public Relations campaign. Now the word “terrorism” is constantly being spun in the media as a threat to “freedom.” According to the media, terrorists seem to be everywhere. Opposing this war could get you labeled as a traitor. You may get called a “conspiracy theorist” if you question the government’s explanation of the events leading to this war.

Elections are handled exclusively by the media. The candidate that invests the largest amount of money or wages the best Public Relations campaign wins. How qualified is the candidate? No one knows. The government can save a lot of election expenses by just appointing Paris Hilton as president and Jay Leno as vice-president. This result would be equivalent to that of the actual elected candidates in the next election. The people are controlled by spin initiated by powerful corporate aliens controlling the media. Spin requires a candidate to always look good, but ignores the candidate’s actual ability to do his or her job efficiently. No candidate, however qualified, can win without a lot of money to buy spin campaigns. Candidates are just faces and personalities that distract the masses and really may have very little of the skills needed to run the government. There seems to be an “invisible government” as Bernays said that is the true ruling power.

In order to have a true election, media must be left out of the election process. I believe that this is possible, but will not occur anytime soon for obvious reasons. Logic, not unconscious impulse must guide our choices.

Not all people succumb to spin. The more a person thinks as an individual, the less likely his or her ideas are affected by media campaigns. This is why, while most people today believe, because of the media, that there’s a terrorist lurking around every corner, some still question this premise. Being aware of how your unconscious mind can influence your thoughts can get you to investigate more of what the media tells you before reaching a conclusion.

The recent film “Thank You for Smoking”, now on DVD, is an insightful and entertaining feature covering the subject of spin. A book that covers more of Bernays campaigns and Public Relations in general is “The Father of Spin: Edward L. Bernays & the Birth of Public Relations” by Larry Tye.

Addiction Is Easy To Overcome By Udgaar

“Help people who are addicted to cigarettes, alcohol and other drugs” This is the Udgaar of my heart when I go out on the street and see people smoking and consuming tobacco. They seem to be enjoying their life but don’t know that this short enjoyment is killing their health and potential.

I am wrong they do know that tobacco causes cancer and it is written on every cigarette box with a horrible picture. However, people seem to take inspiration from Bollywood movies where the main character derives his strength from intoxicants. I don’t know if movie lovers have seen the disclaimer of non-promotion of intoxication at the start of a movie or just ignored it.

People have many excuses to justify their addiction and even many of them would prove that intoxication helps them reducing stress and enjoying life in a better way. It is difficult to convince people to leave a bad habit if they are addicted to it.

A few non-profit organizations such as the art of living and Udgaar are striving to help people overcome their addictions and live a better life. They are proving free counseling, guidance, and other necessary resources to change the lifestyle of people.

Thousands of youth register for the Udgaar annual festival focused on the de-addiction and youth empowerment. They get an opportunity to meet influential public figures like Vivek Bindra, Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaj, Madhava’s Rock band and other artists.

The program is an open forum for youth to express their issues and aspirations and get expert guidance from specialists. With the combination of education and entertainment, Udgaar is a mega attraction for the younger generation.

It features drama, a lecture by the famous motivational speaker Vivek Brinda, Dance by prince group followed by a rock show and mouth-watering dinner.

The main highlight of the seminar is the spiritual guidance of Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaji through his encouraging lecture. The appearance of a celebrity as a Main guest is also a key feature of the program.

Art of Living Led by Sri Sri Ravisankar Ji has launched its drug-free India campaign in 2017. The institution is encouraging students in colleges and universities to leave drugs and take enjoyment in the self.

Addiction starts with curiosity and ends on helplessness. Many people who started smoking/drinking just for an experience thinking that they will leave it any time are now trapped. However, if they join an anti-addiction team and follow its instructions, addiction can be eliminated.

Thromboangiitis Obliterans (Buerger Disease) – Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment

Thromboangiitis Obliterans (TAO), also known as Buerger disease, involves inflammation and occlusion of small and medium sized arteries and veins in the extremities. Symptoms of this disease are pain at rest, and non-healing ulceration and gangrene of the digits of the hands and feet. A disturbed immunity is believed to be responsible for this condition. TAO is strongly associated with heavy tobacco use, and progression of the disease is closely linked to its continued use. Discontinuation of tobacco use results in considerable improvement in this condition. A scoring system has been developed which helps to diagnose this disease and rule out other conditions. Unlike other diseases with similar symptoms, atherosclerosis is not seen in this condition.

The Ayurvedic treatment of TAO is aimed at treating the basic pathology of the disease and preventing complications like amputation. Medicines which act specifically on the arteries and veins, and reduce the inflammation and blockage, are used in this condition. These medicines include Tapyadi-Loh, Panch-Tikta-Ghrut-Guggulu, Kaishor-Guggulu, Maha-Manjishtadhi-Qadha, Saarivadi-Churna, Chandrakala-Ras, Gandhak-Rasayan, Arogya-Vardhini, Sukshma-Triphala and Khadeerarishta.

Herbal medicines useful in this condition are Manjishtha (Rubia cordifolia), Nimba (Azadirachta indica), Triphala (Three fruits), Khadeer (Acacia catechu), Yashtimadhuk (Glycerrhiza glabra), Chandan (Santalum album), Saariva (Hemidesmus indicus), and Tulsi (Ocimum sanctum).

Medicines which act on the ‘Rakta’ dhatu (tissue) of the body are useful in this condition, such as Patol (Tricosanthe dioica), Kutki (Picrorrhiza kurroa), Patha (Cissampelos pareira) and Musta (Cyperus rotundus).

Medicines like Tapyadi-Loh, Arogya-Vardhini and Maha-Manjishthadi-Qadha need to be given long term to prevent a recurrence of this condition. A complete abstinence from tobacco, and regular exercises like walking, are important in order to get good results in this condition. Patients should be taught about the importance of self-care and adequate protection of the affected limbs.
