Reading Reversals in the Aleister Crowley Tarot

Reading tarot reversals in general is subject to much debate. Many people use them, others do not, and you will find passionate reasons as to why they should or should not be used from practitioners on both sides of the argument. As with anything, it comes down to what makes sense to you and how you want to do your readings. I however, do not read reversed cards any differently than I would if they were placed normally.

Since I have dedicated my study to the Aleister Crowley tarot system, it should be noted that there is no precedent in any of Aleister Crowley’s writing on the tarot to indicate that the cards’ symbolism or meaning is altered by being placed upside down in the spread. Also, the tarot system most closely related to Thoth-the tarot of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn-has no precedent for reading reversed cards any differently. This is the primary reason for my aversion to reading reversals with the Thoth tarot deck.

Advocates for reading reversals suggest that interpreting the cards in reverse allows you to get more information out of the cards. They say that if we do not consider the cards’ orientation, we may be only getting half the story. To me, this argument stems from a lack of understanding of the cards. Each individual tarot card can be interpreted differently depending on its relationship with other cards in the spread, as well as its specific position within the spread. This makes the different interpretations of the 80 cards in conjunction with their possible permutations within a given spread endless. The fact that the cards were intended to be interpreted this way is most likely the reason why authoritative books on the Thoth tarot do not provide a concise summary of the meaning for each card-like you would find in your average book on tarot.

From my perspective there is no need to complicate things by trying to attribute different meanings to each individual card simply based on its orientation in the spread. Learning the complex symbolism within the Thoth tarot deck is a scholarly endeavor in and of itself. Once you become more familiar with the Thelemic system of correspondence, there will never be an ambiguous reading. I would suggest concentrating your efforts on becoming more familiar with the cards and how the various symbols would affect the overall interpretation of the reading, when combined or set at odds with one another. Only use simple descriptions of the tarot cards’ meaning as a quick start guide or reference point to begin your divination practice. In the end, if you feel using reversals will help your reading abilities; by all means do what thou wilt, but for your own benefit, do not let it be a substitute for learning the in-depth symbolism of the cards.

How to Know If a Girl Likes You by Reading Her Mind – Here is Something Every Guy Must Know

While you are busy trying to impress the girl of your dreams, it is also important that you try to read her mind at the same time to find out if your efforts will bear results.

So take a little time out from only reading her body and study these 4 tips on how to know if a girl likes you by reading her mind…

Tip #1 – Observe her eyes. Since you just cannot observe her mind, focus on her eyes. If she keeps looking at you shyly, and looks away intermittently then this is a good sign.

However, if she looks away most of the time and throws only brief, uninterested glances towards you then she is just not into you.

Tip #2 – Observe her talk. You can also come to know about her state of mind once she starts talking with you. If she keeps any conversation going cheerfully and talks excitedly then she is definitely comfortable with you.

However, if she answers in monosyllables, talks curtly and cuts you off while talking then you are in trouble.

Tip #3 – Observe her posture. If you have suitably impressed the girl then her stance towards you will be relaxed. She might also try to touch your arm or shoulder as you make her laugh with your jokes.

On the other hand if she is rigid and moves away every time you lean towards her then she could be just nervous or worse, not like you at all.

Tip #4 – Observe her reactions. This is an important aspect of reading a girl’s mind since her reaction will reflect her mentality. Observe her reactions when you praise her, talk to her or look at her.

If she is into you, then these reactions will be genuine and instantaneous. If not, then she would just have an ‘I do not care’ or ‘whatever’ attitude to any moves that you throw at her.

These 4 tips will provide you visual signs as to the state of mind of your girl and by interpreting them correctly you will be able to reach closer to your girl without any problem.

Improving Your Speed Reading With Tachistoscopic Methods

Typical person is able to read between two and four hundreds words per minute. You may think that 400 is really a lot but there is nothing more far away from true. You can practice your speed reading skill with tachistoscopic training.

Tachistoscope was used by R.A.F (Royal Air Forces) to show images of planes and gradually lower exposure time and check how fast human eye can recognise side of plane (enemy or ally). Later the same experiment was carried over to examine words recognition. The results were amazing. Today’s adaption of tachistoscope are flash-cards and so called still-screen course, but you need to watch out!

To realize how fast we can read at first and how much we can improve we need to perform some mathematical calculations. Eye is able to identify image or word in 1/500 of a second and it was proven by Royal Air Forces researches decades ago. Going further with this rule we should be able to get around 23,000 words in just one minute. Just to clarify the things recognising a word or enemy’s plane (images used in the first experiments) in such a short amount of time was achieved after longer training with tachistoscope.

What we may not necessary realize is that most tachistoscopic speed reading courses are not prepared great. After many experiments people reported that their reading speed went down shortly. In the same time most of this courses aim to go from 200 to 400 words per minute, yet this is normal range nothing outstanding. From that we can conclude that the most of courses aiming for around 500 words per minute are rather useless. What you need to understand is that this method will not make you reading extremely fast in a short amount of time.

Many scientists say that improve of speed reading while training with tachistoscope is just a matter of heightened motivation level in the time of course and this would explain a slow down few weeks after typical course is finished. It is also said that tachistoscopic speed reading methods does not improve general comprehension and due to that should be used only as a support of fast reading techniques and not the main practice.

OIL! Read This

Since launching their thermodynamic hot water heater in 2017, Solamics Bunsen Air are demonstrating time and time again, that this solar hot water system, is the ideal renewable upgrade to any home using oil as their primary source of hot water heating. Not only this, but an upgrade that can take place any time, even if it is not an immediate possibility.

Solamics Bunsen Air have recorded a number of case studies, in which customers are thrilled to have discovered that after just one week, they have been able to switch off their oil supply to hot water completely, and that the Bunsen Air is doing all of the hard work for them, day and night, whether it be wet, windy, hot or cold outside.

Let’s take a look back at some of these case studies, and how the Bunsen Air has helped numerous families across the country, by significantly reducing their oil usage…

Turning off my oil

Case Study 1- Jane, Yorkshire

The Place

A large period countryside property, accommodating a busy family of 4.

The Problem

Jane had a large family, and with this came a high demand for water. Alongside the added uncertainty that energy bills were increasing every year, Jane’s house also ran on oil. This meant that Jane had a huge oil tank that was filled four times a year, and an oil boiler that controlled her hot water and central heating.

In the warmer weather Jane would turn off the central heating but use the oil boiler for hot water numerous times a day, plus needing to boost it any other times her family needed hot water, especially over the weekend. All in all… a very expensive way of heating water.

Alongside the fact that Jane’s oil boiler needed regular servicing (which left her feeling uncomfortable in knowing that burning oil really isn’t very environmentally friendly), it also took up a lot of space, was extremely noisy, and high maintenance, all for a method of hot water heating that in comparison to others, really is quite low in efficiency.

Jane wanted something modern that suited her family and lifestyle, with so many responsibilities, working full time and being a mum and wife, Jane wanted a product that would be a good long-term water heating solution and help her save money.

Jane knew that on calculation, heating water was something that the family were doing so regularly and for such a high cost, that it seemed like the most sensible renewable solution to investigate.

She first looked into solar thermal products but living in Yorkshire with notoriously bad weather, she dismissed this idea, as they rely too heavily on the sun to be consistently effective.

So, she then explored air source heat pumps, but alongside them being very noisy, their efficiency can also rely on the air temperature, so she dismissed this idea too. Equally, ground source heat pumps can be expensive, as they would require an entire renovation of her heating system.

Jane hoped to find a system that would be efficient, quiet, high quality and attractive, but most importantly, give her pay back for her investment and be a long-term solution for her and her family.

Finally, Jane stumbled across Solar Assisted Heat pumps

The Solution

As Jane shopped around, she discovered the Bunsen Air Solar Assisted Heat pump, and naturally made some comparisons to similar products on the market, she was able to distinguish some key features that made it the more attractive and the best fitting choice for her…

A sleek and modern appearance

High power and efficiency

Highest ERP rating possible for a product of this type

Cheaper than its competitors

Jane also discovered that this system used a rotary compressor, giving higher power and efficiency but with the lowest sound level on the market, meaning the system would not be disruptive to her or her family during the night.

She contacted Solamics Bunsen Air, who were able to offer support in their training centre based within their distribution warehouse, answering any questions she had, which was huge relief to Jane as she had found it difficult to access the same level of support from other companies with whom she had come into contact.

As Jane already had a water cylinder, the Bunsen Air would be easy to install as it would simply just tap in to her existing flow and return pipes. She knew where she could mount the panels and decided on the roof, this was open to all the natural elements.

Jane now uses a thermodynamic hot water heater as opposed to her oil burner, her water is heated for when she and her family need it thanks to its automatic controller, and as Jane had a water cylinder the Bunsen Air system has also allowed Jane to have a regular water flow and supply without any losses in water pressure.

Janes Bunsen Air Solar Assisted Heat pump now accounts for 100% of her hot water needs - no need to keep on burning oil, and her carbon footprint is so much reduced she needs smaller shoes.

Last minute solution

Alongside being a fantastic opportunity to upgrade your existing hot water system into a renewable solar hot water system and turn off your supply to oil, the Bunsen Air can also be considered as a last minute or future prospect - as Kath and Kevin discovered…

Case Study 2 - Kath and Kevin - France to Stokesley

Case Study

The Situation

Kath and Kevin have recently moved back to North Yorkshire from the South of France, where their experience of water heating, is not one they would like to repeat…

Their French home was a very large house with numerous bathrooms, and, living away from their friends and family, they would often have guests to stay.

There was no gas connection to the house as it was in an extremely rural location (set between two vineyards to be exact) - meaning that their whole home ran on electricity.

In order to supply the entire house with hot water, they needed two water cylinders, which were heated electrically by an immersion heater.

In an attempt to try and reduce the costs of electricity to heat their water, Kevin connected timers to their immersion heater, with the incentive that it would only heat water at certain times of day, but in turn, making spontaneous hot water use difficult.

On making the decision to move back to the UK, Kath and Kevin, who both shared a keen interest in property development, decided that they would look for a property to renovate.

On finding that property, they thought about incorporating a solar hot water system, with the intention that this solar system would become a fully reliable source of hot water for their home, and in turn, significantly reduce their energy bills.

The Problem

The sale of their French home meant, that after buying their new house, Kath and Kevin only had enough money to partly renovate. Fortunately, they were also selling their existing UK home, but until the money from this sale went through, they were having to make do with what they had - which was a house that ran off oil.

Knowing that they required a new water cylinder anyway, as the existing one was extremely old and in need of replacement, Kevin looked into which renewable solar hot water options were available, and whether he could eventually retrofit such a system to his existing circuit.

Solar thermal was an option, but since the growth in awareness and popularity of thermodynamic replacements, and an increase in the understanding that thermodynamic hot water systems can produce hot water in all weather and at night, he ruled out solar thermal - it simply wasn’t as efficient or reliable.

Kath and Kevin needed something that could become a fully dependable source of hot water and an upgrade to what they currently had, as opposed to a backup (which is what solar thermal would be).

The Solution

On doing his research, Kevin had come across an existing Bunsen Air article, which discussed the supreme benefits users of oil could experience from the installation of a Bunsen Air, as an upgrade to their existing water circuit.

He contacted Solamics and spoke to a distributor of the Bunsen Air, who, on having been explained that until the sale of their existing UK home was complete, they would not have the money to purchase and install a Bunsen, advised that this didn’t matter…

Kevin had also explained, that he would need to replace his cylinder urgently, due to it being completely warn out.

Solamics Bunsen Air clarified that this was all fine, all that was required in Kath and Kevin’s initial home renovation works, was that their new water cylinder fitted in a place that could also house the Bunsen Cylinder adjacently, and the pipework to the external thermodynamic panels could comfortably lead away.

In light of this, Kath and Kevin had their new cylinder fitted upstairs, in a room where they knew that when they could afford their Bunsen Air Solar Assisted Heat pump, this would be easily installed.

With evidence to suggest that existing oil users have been able to switch off their oil supply to hot water completely, there is no reason why, the Bunsen will not begin to provide for 100% of Kath and Kevin’s hot water needs - making the Bunsen a fully reliable solar retrofit upgrade… 100% worth the investment, and in their case… 100% worth the wait!

Other Bunsen Air reviews

Alongside these case studies, Solamics Bunsen Air have received a number of comments from customers who are thrilled to have been able to switch off their oil supply to hot water entirely

Hughie Gaughan - Bradford - 25th October 2017

“I am on Oil and I had enough of wasting money on heating my hot water. Future Thermo installed the Bunsen Air which now heats all my hot water needs for less than £0.18 per day! I’m now saving over a thousand pounds a year on my Oil bill! Very happy man”.

Tony Lee-Jamieson - Sussex

“I was moving into a new property that already ran on oil. Oil wouldn’t have been my first choice so I actually looked into solar solutions for hot water before I had even moved in. I arranged to have the Bunsen Air installed before I moved into the property properly and am so happy I did. Tech guys are great, haven’t needed to switch on oil supply to hot water at all”.

Together with the system being a fantastic solar hot water heating option for those already running on oil, and who’s homes are already fitted with a hot water cylinder, the Bunsen continues to remain the most powerful choice of thermodynamic heat pump for any household looking to improve their carbon footprint and save on energy bills!

How To Read Faster And Understand What You Are Reading: Part 2

In the first part of this article series you discovered the importance of reading faster. You learned how to use your hands to dramatically increase your reading speed by 10-15%. By now you should have practiced the technique outlined in this article, and experienced this reading speed increase for yourself. This second article will focus upon improving your understanding of what you read.

Most people read in a single step. They open a book, and turn to the first chapter. They begin reading the first sentence of the first paragraph, and continue moving down the page until they reach the end of the book. After all, that is how most of us were taught to read when we went to school. Unfortunately, this is a terrible strategy, and causes all kinds of comprehension problems. Fortunately, there is an easy solution.

Reading experts use a simple formula for improving comprehension while reading. In fact, this same formula can be used while speed reading. The formula has an acronym which is SR2Q. SR2Q stands for: skim, read, review, and question. These four steps are easy to learn, and will make a dramatic improvement in your reading comprehension. Let’s begin.

Before you start to read a text to learn the details, you should skim it from the beginning to the end. This skimming should be done at very high speed. For example, it should take no more than 10 minutes to complete a thick college text. Once you are done skimming the material, you are ready for the next step.

Now begin to read the material. It is a good idea to look for the main ideas, and any supporting information. After all, why should you believe what you are being told if there isn’t evidence to support it? While reading, place a tick (-) mark in the margin using a pencil. Place this tick mark next to anything that is confusing to understand.

Next you search for all of your tick marks, and review that material. You can use other texts, and sources of information to decode the meaning that is confusing to you.

The last step in this process for improving reading comprehension is to continuously ask questions while you are reading. Questions create curiosity. Curiosity creates interest, and interest results in better comprehension.

SR2Q is an easy process to use to improve your reading comprehension. With just a little practice, you will be amazed at how much better you are able to read for comprehension.

The Benefits of Reading

For many of us, reading has many benefits that continue to enhance our lives. Our lives are bettered by reading in the following ways: mentally, spiritually and socially. Also, if we develop a habit reading will we become more confident and self assured in abilities to comprehend and understand all types of information. Let's further examine some of the benefits of reading.

One of the other main benefits of reading is that it exercises your mind. Our mind begins to comprehend and flex itself mentally. It stays lose and limber so to we can flow easier through the course of the day. The regular and routine reading ensures that our reading muscle stays in good shape. Just like physical exercise, there has to be a determination on our part to make reading part of your life. If you understand the many benefits of reading, you will have no trouble making a regular habit of reading.

Reading has other benefits to the regular reader which is the ability to focus. When the mind is trained and channeled, it begins to pay attention more thoroughly. For example, when you are faced with some of life's difficult and challenging assignments, you will have the ability to stay calm and objectively look at the problem, circumstances or required task. If you continue to read regularly, you continue to stay focused on the bottom line.

There is perhaps no greater avenue to learning then through reading. All people, great and small, have learned more things by reading then practically anywhere other way. When we continue to read, we have the ability to expand our minds tremendously. We review the pages of knowledge left by those who came before us. We than begin to add to the knowledge as the cycle of humanity continues. The regular routine reading has positively chanced the course many peoples' lives.

Finally, when we develop a practice and a habit of reading, we are building a solid foundation on which to build our lives. This foundation of reading will allow us to accomplish many goals and ambitions we have set for our lives. Our habit of continuing to read helps to ensure we will continue to succeed. Reading has a long and distinguish track record for establishing positive and lasting benefits for all humanity.

How to Read Your Way to Speaking Success

The most important thing a speaker can do to enhance a career is to become an authority in their specific subject area. You want to reach a point where people automatically think of you when they are looking for information on your topic or are looking for a speaker for their event.
To do this you must read extensively in your field. I believe that speakers are leaders and leaders are readers. If you don't read then listen to tapes or lectures. You have to learn all you can and more about your subject.

When you read extensively you give yourself a distinct advantage over those who don't. And there are huge numbers of people who don't read.

Statistics show that the average person reads less than one book a year after graduating highschool.

* 58 percent never finish the book they begin.

* 90 percent of book buyers never read beyond chapter one of the book they begin.

* 20 percent of the population purchase 80 percent of all books purchased.

Many people who do read do so to be able to function adequately at work. Few read to excel in a specific area of knowledge and huge numbers don't read at all. Looking at these statistics you can see that if you are a voracious reader you have a winning edge over others.

When you stand in front of an audience to deliver a speech there is a lot of presumption present. The audience presumes that you know what you are talking about and have something meaningful and beneficial to give them. On your part you must presume that you are an authority on the topic and that you have expertise and knowledge far beyond that of your audience. The only way you can be confident in this presumption is by reading and studying your subject thoroughly.

I suggest that you set aside at least one half hour of study per day. One hour is better but you might just want to begin with a half an hour until the habit is formed. Make it something sacred and don't neglect it for anything but the most serious of reasons. You will soon reach a point where you know a great deal more than you need to know when giving a speech. This increases your self confidence and really helps you when someone from the audience asks you a question that you have to answer extemporaneously. Your comfort with answering questions will impress and leave people believing that the presumption they had about you being an expert was correct. Your reputation as an knowledgeable speaker begins to grow and so does your career.

Why People Read Less And Less

Polls keep showing that more and more people in today’s world read less and less. Some recent polls estimated that about 25% of United States families did not read a book in the last year. I have even seen some studies put the number as high as 80%.

Many factors contribute to the lowering reading rates. I will list some of the most major ones.

Television – Though television may seem simple in comparison to more elaborate technology, it did not even become commercially available until the 1930s. Nowadays, you can find televisions all over the place. Almost every household in the developed world has one or more. Families eat dinner in front of them instead of at a table. Time put towards television has replaced time put towards sports, family games, study, and of course reading. The addictive television appeals to our laziness, sloth, and short-sightedness. Instead of stimulating our mind with books, we choose to rot our minds in front of a television. Ironically, in the long-term, the reader often feels more fulfilled and happy than the TV addict.

Faster-Paced Lifestyle – Our culture now centers around a constantly faster-paced lifestyle. People work longer hours and then rush through their stressful lives, with credit cards, fast-food, and speeding cars. When we do take a break for fun, we look for the impulsive thrills of drugs, alcohol or TV, rather than calmer, longer-running pleasures like reading.

Misplaced Values – We do not value education and intellectuality much anymore. Instead, we value entertainment and athletics. Perhaps it is because technology and development have eliminated a great deal of our need for intelligence. Perhaps we feel secure that our needs have been met and feel that we no longer need to work as a society towards major goals. As a result, we just want to lay back and gossip about Paris Hilton and cheer for our favorite sports team.

Whatever the reasons, most people in our society have given up on reading for the most part. If you don’t already, I encourage you to consider reading more. Also, consider slowing your life down, giving up television, and reassessing your values. Consider giving up unhealthy and short-term pleasures like television for long-term pleasures like reading. In 5 years, will you wish you watched more television, or will you wish you read more?

Whatever you do, good luck and have fun!

Should Lecturers Read Copiously From PowerPoint Slides To Students?

The act of teaching is aimed at reaching the hearts of the learners so that the content to be delivered would elicit the required learning outcomes. One viable instrument that lecturers who are technologically inclined and that has also been generally adopted as the modern trend of lecture delivery is the PowerPoint presentation slides using a projector and the computer system. As its name implies, PowerPoint slides showcase the powered or main points of a lesson. Explanations of these powered points shown on the screen are occasionally given by the lecturer as the lesson progresses. It is noted today that most lecturers copiously read from the PowerPoint slide projected to the students in verbatim. This is raising great concern amongst educational managers, and students alike.

Most of these people feel that when a lecturer copiously reads from PowerPoint slides, it is a sign of lack of preparation on his or her part for the lesson. Owing to this, such lecturers are not able to offer the learning content with much fluidity affecting the teaching and learning activities negatively. Students are unable to focus fully on the lesson since their minds are thwarted to the unpreparedness of the lecturer. Also, since the lecturer is profusely reading from the slides, it greatly affects the required constant eye contact with his/her students.

Good preparation, which is a benchmark of a good lecturer, is evident in how s/he delivers the lesson via the PowerPoint slides. Instead of copiously reading from the slides, s/he only refers to them at few glances while engaging in the delivery at length with emphasis on eye contact with the students. Doing this would signal to him the effect of the lesson to the students, whether it is sinking well with them or not, so as to make the necessary changes in the delivery style as and when it becomes necessary at any point of the lesson delivery. This does not imply in any way that a lecturer cannot read any of the powered points. S/he can only do this when an emphasis is being made or a quotation becomes relevant in driving home a point. Flexibility with the PowerPoint presentations and not using the glued words on the screen bolsters the confidence of the lecturer as well as the confidence students have in his/her ability to accurately deliver the content to be taught. Lecturers need to remember that the PowerPoint presentation is a facilitating device for the lecture delivery and not the lecturing medium or lecturer. It must be used effectively to aid in the smooth delivery of content.
